Welcome to Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm Jill. It's been a whole day since we've been here together. Welcome everybody, I'm so glad to be here with you. My husband founded the Daily Audio Bible. He started This is his 18th year podcasting the Bible every day for 18 years. And so he was Podcasts are telling somebody the story. The other day he was podcasting before there were Podcasts.There were just a handful out, and I think we all thought he was going to do this for a year, get it out of his system and resume life as normal. And nothing about our life has been normal since in the best of ways. But in a world where everyone is talking, everyone is podcasting, I'm really proud to think that he is truly one of the original podcasts that started.This era of talk and 18 years end still faithfully Podcasting every day. Still Takes on the day with Joy and excitement and a passion for what he does in this community. So I guess just a little proud moment here bragging on my husband. But this is also how we got, if you are new and you're just not sure, So this is it. And then Chronological started, Oh man, I'll have to find the date. But it started with our daughter China, who started podcasting as a little girl and grew up literally in the word. And then as she grew up and matured, I guess I should say she grew the podcast To be Chronological, started with the New Testament. She did that for years and then went from kids to teens and then decided nobody is doing it chronologically. So she's now a young woman, married, daughter, daughter on the way and We're doing this together as a mom and daughter team and I just, I couldn't be more proud of her. I couldn't be more pleased to be doing this with her. So this is how we got here. I guess, Little detour, a little informative tutorial. Before we begin today, let's dive into the word it is Chronological reading, So we're a little bit all over the place, just because We are reading the Bible as it happened in historical order, not just reading the Bible.Chapter by chapter or how Brian does it with OT, NT, Psalms and Proverbs. So because it's historically in order, we jump all over the place. So we're back in Proverbs today and we're reading chapters 30 and 31 and this week we are reading the Good News Translation. Proverbs, chapter 30. 

Commentary

So today in our reading, we have the infamous passage of Proverbs 31, also known as the Proverbs 31 wife. Now if you're a woman and you're hearing this, and you're reading this through the checklist and you are matching yourself against this woman,You may feel great disappointment and great let down.That is not the goal here.The goal is not to run out and buy a sheep for your backyard and a loom and a wheel and shave the sheep and spin your own wool and crochet a sweater. Although that's not a terrible thing to do either. But the context of this passage is a mother writing a letter to her son. And there's some great wisdom and advice at the beginning of this passage before she goes into the capable wife. So if we read it, understanding the context, we go, oh OK, this is the ideal woman and wife that a mom, a mother is wishing for her son. So that might ease the pressure off of us women that are like man, I just can't live up to her. And if I'm being honest, like I get through the first couple lines and I'm like failed miserably. Failed check, failed check. Put it on the To Do List. Plant the vineyard, grow the grapes, make the wine, package the wine, sell the wine on Etsy. Make my family a lot of money and failure is written all over it. This should not be read as a checklist. I do, however, love the instruction From the mom to the son in the very last line, give her credit for all she does. She deserves the respect of everyone. And without making this microphone here in this space A complete confessional booth. Umm I realize that we have a role as women, as wives, as moms, To be respectable,To our children and to our husband. Because respect cannot be demanded, and so many times it is.It has to be earned. And the way that we can be respected is to be honorable. And whew, did I miss the mark early on. I'll say it without tears, because the the weight of regret oftentimes can just crush me to my knees.Thinking about the days and the times that I got it more wrong.Then I got it right.And when I think about that.I think that the grace for today is knowing That you can look back, And see that you did it wrong,That you missed the mark,And that you can see where you missed the mark. And the grace and the new mercy that awaits for tomorrow is to do it differently. Is to Make amends.To say where we fell short, where I fell short.And to admit that.And not be ashamed, not hide and shame from missing the mark.Because sometimes when we hide.In shame I can silence us and it can make us shrink back and instead of stepping out of the place of repentance and saying man.I messed up. I need you to forgive me. I mishandled that. I'm still doing this.With my adult kids, I still do this with Ezekiel, and I'm doing it far more with him than I ever did with my other four kids.Because I've learned so much and I need him to know when I know that I have messed up.And what I've noticed is.The more that I do it, the more he.Is so quick to come to me with his.Convictions and his apologies. Asking for forgiveness. And sometimes it's daily on The Reg and oftentimes it's for the very same things we have already asked.Forgiveness for where we've already admitted our shortcomings. And man, that's humbling.To come back again and say I.I recognized this and I wasn't going to let it happen again. And here we are.I think the point that I'm trying to make is when it is modeled.It is taught.And I know.Maybe some of you never grew up in homes where mistakes were admitted and faults were reconciled, apologies were made.And man, I'm so sorry if that's your environment, if that's what was modeled to you. But the great mercy for today is that we.Get to model it.From this point on and our lives.We can't hide behind what wasn't done for us. We can't use that as an excuse or as a barrier any longer.We get a new mercy every day. A new start. Fresh, clean slate. A new chance.To be honorable, to be respectable.So that we may be honored.And so that we may be respected.By those.That we are caring for.

Prayer

So, Father, we thank you for these words today. Thank you for Mercies a new every morning. We thank you for your grace that Cover so many Layers and layers and sinks to the cracks.Of her past mistakes, Of our shortcomings.Of the things that we have just admittedly failed at, but that does not.Make us failures. It makes us human.And we are humans in need of a savior.And I'm so thankful. And I am so grateful.That we have one available to us.I pray for every parent here today listening that deals with the weight of regret.It cripples us, it trips us up, it's cemented around our feet and sometimes prevents us.To walking.Into the fullness of life and life more abundantly.Father, we laid those regrets at your feet.And we ask you to take them.And do your finest redemptive work in our lives.In our hearts.As we mend and repair relationships.Where we admit past mistakes.And where we walk forward.And the confidence of knowing that we have been forgiven.That new mercies await us.And we are not the person that we used to be.And I thank God.For your healing.For your loving kindness.We pray this now in the name of the Father.The sun.And the Holy Spirit.Amen.

Hey D ABC it's refined by the fire in Ohio I am behind a couple days finally got our twin daughters graduated and their party through and transitioning into adulthood which as some of you know.Takes a little bit of managing, but in between there I know I had called about my dad and him being in a nursing home that I am less than thrilled with. But God, right? But God and how he has been.Just really opening my eyes. Well, in my most recent health care visit with the social worker and we were talking and that definitely is going to be there until the point that he probably goes on Hospice at some point, umm, and while we were talking and I was.Kind of settling into the idea, you know, this is where I'm going to be for awhile. His aide came in and was mentioning a blanket that I had bought for him that is personalized and how much she loves it so much.And.In that moment, she said. I really wish everybody here could have a blanket like that. And it was as if God just said.What do you think? Can we make that happen? And my whole heart was like, absolutely, God can make that happen. So for Father's Day in a few days, I'm starting a fundraiser and my goal is to have every person in that nursing home, many of which have no visitors or.Personalized things, their own blanket. Hi DABC family, this is faith filled Mama. And I was thinking about the prayer request of the woman who called about her mother, who is the grandmother.Um of the daughter who was raped and the grandmother had told her her granddaughter that it was her fault. And I don't know if this was from the Lord or not, but I just sensed that this grandmother is.Was a victim herself and she carries a lot of shame around with her and that ******* that she has been in is the same ******* that she is attempting to transfer onto her granddaughter and.I would like to pray for this woman. Of course. I pray that the granddaughter would be set free and not be bound by this shame. And I believe that this shame is also the core of this woman's narcissism. My my prayer, Lord, is.In our prayers we pray together for this woman that you would set her free. Lord, would you remove the shackles of ******* that this woman is living under? Lord, would you take that shame off of her, Lord, and let her experience life in the light?And I pray, Father, that your spirit would engulf her with your love and your.Your mercy and your compassion. This was my home, Even as the walls fell down Under the weight of the hoard of the gold that we cannot afford, And we began to suffocate in each other's air.

But that's all I have ever known. This is my home. Even as everything I've ever known slips through my fingers, And I'm left alone in a tiny room that crumbles in on itself, Until I myself am dragged away, Kicking and screaming, As strangers invade to rob me of my stability.

My new home is a hive, a twisted maze. I'm always wandering, always lost. But every time I cry out for help, Someone shoves my head down And buries my face in the dirt. Silenced while anxiety's screams ring in my ears. She won't shut up. She will never shut up. Nostalgia and melancholy can't hear me now.

But we were still lucky When plague swept overhead, Like clouds of circling vultures. Had we lingered on our weathered doorstep, It would have choked us, Pressing our bodies into the rubble Until our bones ground down into the fine powder on our tongues. Until our blood and saliva seeped into the earth Like a nourishing broth. Until our eyes popped, Like the wine grapes in the backyard When the sun denies them of shade. Until we lost all of our senses Before they expired on their own.

I promise I'm thankful for the roof that shields our heads. But the betrayal leaves me bitter, like the flavor coating my mouth. The carpet matches the walls, the same shade of brown, And I sleep on a mattress in a cardboard box. It's comfortable in the way that you lose the feeling in your fingers When the cold settles in. But now the dogs are fighting, Eyes and teeth flashing, Lunging for each other's throats. It's my fault. I haven't taught them any better. I can't control them, Because I'm too busy controlling myself. The day I snap is the day they put me down.

But that never happened, Because I crafted myself a mask to wear. I draw a smile on my face and paint over my scars. They burn and flare, so I layer on more paint. I darken my eyelids so they grow heavier and heavier, And it becomes harder to see, Leaving me stumbling blind, bruised, and stupid. And when I finally remove the mask, When I can finally see again, I'm no longer lost in the hive.

Is this stability? I think so. I think I've learned how to live again. I think I'm happy, And when I not, My cardboard box is my escape. This could be my home, Except this will never be the home I see in my dreams.

When I close my eyes, I return to my ruined temple. The one place where I can never return. Asleep, I never know the difference. Awake, I realize something's not right. When will I learn that none of it is true? Years later, I still don't know what's real. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, Or maybe I never made it home.

The fear chases me down. My wings grow faster than my heart So it doesn't swallow me whole. I can't make a safe landing, Because the world is never stable. I can't keep flying, Because my mind never settles.

There is nothing I can call my own. Nothing lasts forever. I sometimes forget that, but I always remember, And when I do, I panic, Because I'm still not home. I can't go home. But I want to, I need to.

So, tell me. If I'm not supposed to dwell on the past, Where do I go from here?

It was such a hot day here in California. It’s the perfect day for swimming or going to the beach. It’s the perfect day for sunbathing or even staying in to keep cool while watching movies. I laughed and looked at her then back at all the fruit. I did look really good. “How about I make burgers for us and you just get a lot of fruit on a plate for us to share,” I suggested to her and she smiled big. “You don’t have to tell me twice,” she laughed as she started loading up a plate and it caused me to laugh too. Once we had our plates, we made our way back to the shaded table to start enjoying our food. The guys joked to us at our shared plate of fruit and we just laughed. “First of all, I was very overwhelmed with all of the fruit choices. Secondly, it’s very refreshing to have lots of fruits thank you very much,” Julie pointed out to them. I nodded in agreement. I started eating some strawberries too and I looked up to see Harry watching me intensely. I felt myself grow nervous as I bit down into the strawberry. He ran a hand through his hair to create a distraction from watching me and I continued to eat quietly. That’s when Julie and I both grabbed our big slices of watermelon. We cheered to all the fruit we were eating. I laughed and we started to eat them. I closed my eyes as I took a bite and we both groaned in delight at the taste.

         When I opened my eyes, I saw a very, very intense looking Harry watching me with a wicked smirk. He leaned back in his seat and sighed, “Well, does anyone want another drink? I’m thinking I need another beer.” He looked to the guys and they nodded in agreement. “We will be back ladies,” Harry spoke and took some of the empty plates off the table for us. We nodded and tried to hold back our giggles. “I think we turned them on a bit,” Julie said making sure they were out of ear shot. I laughed and shook my head, “You think?” She joined me and we continued to finish off the watermelon. “Well that was extremely good,” she sighed as we leaned back in our seats. “Yes, it was,” I laughed and looked over the guys who were talking by the food table.

         That’s when I noticed the looks on their faces. Especially, Harry and Niall’s faces. They were up to something. “Is it me or does it look like they are up to no good,” I asked watching them as carefully as possible. “What are they up to,” Julie asked looking at them intently. That’s when I notice Niall and Harry grab a handful of something off the table before they made their way towards us. Once they were about halfway to us, they stopped. “Food fight,” Niall yelled and they both started throwing fruit and other foods. “Oh hell,” Julie stood up and we both grabbed handfuls of the rest of our fruit on our plate. We started throwing it at them as they chased us back to the table to grab more food. Everyone joined in and it just became a huge mess.

         I had grabbed a handful of chips and handful of grapes. Harry was hot on my tail as I made my way around the pool. He threw some strawberries at me and kiwis. He started laughing and I felt all the fruit hitting me and bouncing off onto the ground. I squealed and laughed as I came to a stop. “Out of food Styles,” I asked trying to catch my breath. I could see Julie creeping up our way to help me attack Harry. “I may be out of food, but I can still beat you at this game,” he chuckled trying to catch his own breath. I nodded and started throwing the grapes at him. He tried to dodge them as we laughed together. I slowly walked up towards him. “You know I always win right,” I tease while looking up into his handsome green eyes. He smirked down at me and started to hover above me.

         “Is that so,” he asked as I bit my lip and nodding my head. “Prove it,” he said trying to get me to do something. I smiled and took the chips that were in my hand, holding them above his head as best as I could. I crushed them in my hand letting them spill down into his hair and face. He started laughing. “Is that all you got, princess,” he asked as he raised a brow at me. I shook my head no, “Julie now!” I backed away as fast as I could when Julie came out of hiding with mustard and ketchup in each hand. She started squirting Harry with the condiments and he was stunned at first trying to cover his face. We all started laughing when we thought Harry had enough. “Very sneaky and impressive,” Harry laughed looking at me and Julie as he pushed his hair back. “That was a really great ambush,” Niall said in a fit of laughter as he walked up to us.
