For every HALF HOUR* of travel (16 a day) roll a d20. On a roll of 8 or above something from the HAUNTING table finds them. On a roll of 13 or above, COMBAT/PHENOMENA does.

*depends on how often you want them tbh. you can also just pick and choose them

COMBAT/PHENOMENA TABLE (d20 (or d17, more accurately))

1 one revenant guarding the path. IF ATTACKED assumed they are w strahd and fights until destroyed. IF FRIENDLY asks them to convince Horngaard to see some reason.

2 A group (d6+1) of berserkers huntingre a goat

3 An injured berserker, wounded by a winter wolf / the ROC of mt ghakis / Sangzor the giant goat

4 A pack of 1d4+1 winter wolves prowling their territory

5 A 1d4+1 hungry cave bears hunting for food

6 1d2 cannibalistic adventurers cursed to become bodaks by deals with a vestige. The change is bound to happen next night / within the hour (should the party pick them up) / in like 3 minutes

7 A herd of goats grazing on sparse grass

8 A forgotten trinket buried beneath a snowdrift

9 A frozen zombie buried beneath a snowdrift

10 A rockslide that threatens to knock the party down toward the banks of Luna Lake. (DEX save 10 or be pushed 30 minutes off track. if whole party fails, pushed d4 hours off track. DC up to dm, i'd vote 15-18)

11 A carved stone figurine of a maiden tucked into the hollow of an old tree / into a small alcove in the rocky mountain face / between a couple rocks

12 A corpse lies under the snow. d6: 1-2 a wolf, killed by an arrow. | 3-5 random barovian, torn up by wolves | 6 One of the PC's, without their equipment (meant to suggest the actual PC is a fake).

13 A gothic trinket

14 Further between the trees you spot a grave marker: can be knight of the silver dragon, or more of a stone mound / such for the mountain folk. 25% chance there is a zombie in there

15 A strange, ghostly light approaches quickly; as it gets close, the outstretched claws of a specter/ghost make it clear this creature is looking to have you join it in death.

16 You find some bones! (use for foreshadowing other creatures that might have killed whatever's bones this is)

17 A lonesome raven pecks at something on the ground. d6. 1-2 small amber fragment, 3-4 a stuffer wolf. one of the eyes missing. 5-6 an injured toad. as it pecks it again, the toad disappears instead of dying normally. raven disappointed. (toad was a witch's familiar, raven either wereraven or associated w keepers)

18-20 was way too party specific, but depending on how you run the amber temple, could be some amber shards, some stuff reaching out, or a marker left by the order of the silver dragon that advises the party to turn back (see: those danger signs that are like "do you want to die a slow and painful death? if yes, come this way!".)

HAUNTING TABLE (d10) (i suggest you don't use the same ones too often. these are from a bigger list on the dm'sguild but i can't find it atm)

1 Your hand moves to your weapon, and you notice that it is not there. Your eyes dart around, but you do not see it laying anywhere and you do not recall placing it anywhere

2 You feel a tug on the back of your shirt.

3 To your left, you faintly hear your mother’s voice calling your name in a soothing and beckoning manner

4 From behind, you clearly hear someone, speaking slowly and in a deep voice "I know what you did".

5 You find a bloody handprint placed on an object near you. The blood appears fresh and the print is missing the fourth (ring) finger

6 You look down at your hands and they are both thickly covered in bright red blood.

7 You are being watched

8 You see glimpses of large black eyes in most things you see. They look straight at you and they never blink.

9 You hear something heavy drop on the ground with a loud “thud”. It does not appear that any of your other party members have noticed anything

10 Out of the corner of your eye, you see a shadowy face with white eyes staring at you.
