Qualification Odds: Poor.

Slovenia have a few tricks up their sleeve. Lea herself is obviously one of them, since she’s immensely charismatic. Another is Slovenia’s great position within the semifinal. They’re  on second to last, and are therefore guaranteed to do well in the televote (possibly better than what most people give them credit for), with reliable allies like Serbia and Montenegro providing them support.

So, while I don’t consider them dead by any means... "Hvala ne” is a niche entry from a small country, let’s be honest guys. As good as 17th is, Lea is on before Mélovin Python’s Flying Circus. IF Lea advances, it will be a massive shock. On the other hand, if Lea advances, she’s guaranteed to win my post-show ranking, sooooo.

Jury or Televote? Televote.

The jury is a huge question mark for Slovenia. I suspect moderate jury support at the best and at worst, Lea is a Triana Park who gets 1 point (collectively) from the juries.

The televote is definitely a clear win for Slovenia tho. Even in a field which features audience vote threats such as Ukraine, Hungary, Denmark and Norway, I expect Lea to hold her own. She’s an excellent performer, her act is HILARIOUS (see: the above gifs) and if VODIM TE NA IGRANKU got a top 5 in the televote, you can definitely say “Hvala Ne!” will get... around 6th here. Maybe even higher if she fulfills her promise of integrating Portugese in the song because Portugese/Slovene is the most hilarious/random lang combo ever <3

Projected Placement: 6th-18th in the semifinal, 22nd-25th in the Grand final. (lol it’s Slovenia what did you expect? Schweppes?)

Lea Sirk

Lea Sirk (b.1989) started her musical education at the age of five in Koper, Slovenia. Between 2001 and 2007, Lea participated at numerous national and international competitions, where she regularly finished amongst the top positions. Lea studied at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva and has played in various orchestras and participated in different seminars across Europe.  Lea, a mother of two girls, has been building her soloist singing career in parallel with her other responsibilities, with a sense of determination.

She began participating regularly at various festivals, as well as EMA, the Slovenian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (2009, 2010).

Lea will represent Slovenia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with her song Hvala, ne!

So Lea Sirk has created a film for her song. She announced for people to submit their idea for a film and this is what they did. I submitted something; they did not choose to use that idea; I am not bitter.

The premise of the film is the girl is trying to get the attention of the man of your dreams. As the vain man is not paying attention, the girl takes herself to the ladies to make herself into something that he would like. It works and he is all over her. When she reveals who she is, he flees. Was he worth your time? No. Should she have spent her time turning into a big headed banjii girl to entice him? No. Has she gained anything from the experience? Ridicule.

The moral of the story; be you; don’t change for anyone.

Hvala, ne! - Lea Sirk Slovenia Selection method: National final Has it been heard live? Yes Semi final # 2 Drawn: 17th

Slovenia is another country that doesn’t have a film yet. Instead it is the national final performance. In this case, the national final give you everything you need to feel the vibe and the style of the song. The lighting and the dance moves are well suited to the song. The song is sung in an aggressive manner that is both exciting and menacing at the same time. Most importantly, Lea is step, pitch and note perfect. I didn’t like the bit with the windows and the dancers.

Finalist: It better be.
