KAMIKAZE KILLS !
Tragedy strikes again at Crazy Fun Park, where a malfunctioning seatbelt is thought to be the cause of a terrible accident...
Wesley’s younger brother was going on about Crazy Fun Park for weeks before the incident. Ever since their big move, the theme park at the edge of town had become an obsession — and therefore, it was all Wesley heard about those first few months in the new house. When he was huddled under the kitchen sink on a Saturday night, trying to fix a broken pipe before their dad got home, it was Crazy Fun Park this; when their mom forgot groceries and they had to stop by the convenience store for dinner, it was Crazy Fun Park that. If they didn’t save up the money to go there soon, Wesley was sure his brother would drive him crazy with all his begging.
So the older boy did what he had always done: he worked his ass off to make things happen. And of course, when Jacob finally walked into the mouth of that technicolor death trap, he was dragging a reluctant Wesley right along with him.
To Wesley’s surprise, it was actually pretty fun at first. He didn’t usually like to hang around crowded, noisy spaces like that, but he found he didn’t mind the chaos that day as they gorged themselves on gimmicky junk food, spent the rest of their pocket money on games that were definitely rigged, and conquered the roller coaster three times at Jacob’s insistence. He was even thinking about coming back again soon when they queued up for their final ride of the night: the Kamikaze.
Two glimmering cages of metal suspended on giant swinging arms would hurl them into the sky, around and around again, fastened in place by a seatbelt adjusted to fit the both of them. It might’ve been fine, but just before the ride could start, Jacob abruptly hurled himself to his feet and off toward the bathrooms — apparently, all that junk food didn’t take well to being shaken around so much. At least, that’s what Wesley thinks happened. He never actually got the chance to ask, because the second his younger brother stepped off the platform, the Kamikaze roared to life.
And Wesley was launched straight to his death.
The whole thing was written off as a tragic accident, as so many other deaths in the park would be known; something random but preventable, a result of bad luck and human error swept quickly under the rug. It didn’t matter that he’d screamed for the ride to stop, or that he’d been clinging to the seat for dear life as each hiss of hydraulics lifted him further into the air. It didn’t matter that a crowd gathered to watch while he was flung against the confines of the cage, slamming against metal over and over long after he went silent. All the flimsy investigations focused on was that damn seatbelt; how it hadn’t been tight enough, still set to accommodate the shape of a body that was no longer there beside him. ( He always knew he’d die for his brother. )
And so the world went on without him. And so, in his own messed up way, Wesley went on, too — or maybe it would be more accurate to say that he couldn’t. That he still can’t. That if there is an afterlife like his mother told him, then the only way he knows it is in surreal nights spent wandering around a park that only comes to life for the ghosts who haunt it.
( He can definitely think of worse places to go. )
Date of death: 1991.

I was dreaming about making a computer game.
It was going to be a first person puzzle game, stylised to be in black and white but with hazards or key items being in colour.
The first version had a robot alone in an old fishing village and in order to bring the people back they had to fix the village up.
So the concept level was set under one of the buildings where there were walkways just above the water. There were boxes of explosives floating in the water and a flammable oil had spilled onto the water and was now on fire. If it reached the explosives they would explode. So you had to push and pull the boxes in the water around an under the walk ways to solve the puzzle.
The first version had one box that went under a cage in the water to lift it up. Another box had to be positioned in front of a hydraulic ram to push something out the way in order to unlock a gate to progress.
The second version was a multiplayer version where you had pallets that could be moved about to join walkways as there’s no jumping and if you went in the water you’d die. It had walls with secrets behind them that you could blow up if you found the bombs but it didn’t work because it was too small for multiplayer.
The last version was timed or at least seemed timed to create a sense of urgency. You had to obtain a padlock to lock the gate to keep someone out. The explosives floating were now just floating boxes but the pallets were back and could be picked up and moved about to form bridges between the wall ways.

Whumptober 2021: Day 20
No. 20 - LOST & FOUND trunk | trapped underwater | solitary confinement
Characters: Fynta Wolfe & Tanno Vik Fandom: swtor Affiliated Fic(s):  Meet Me On The Battlefield
Tumblr media
Word Count: 646 Rating: T This was sort of unofficially requested by @dimigex when I couldn’t decide who should rescue Fynta from today’s trauma. Fynta and Vik have always had a peculiar relationship, and I was so excited to delve into this.
As soon as Fynta cleared the surface of the water, she sucked in a croaking breath. Her lungs burned, wrists aching from the shackles that she’d worn for too long, and skin raw from the low current they’d introduced through her watery cage.
Fynta’s feet found purchase as the box slid from the water, and she used that to hurl herself against the plexiglass walls. She knew the signs of panic, knew that her thrashing would only make it worse when they put her under again, but Fynta couldn’t stop herself. Her mind reeled, torn between the training that should keep her calm, and memories of mud seeping into her mouth, her father’s blood still warm on her cheek, and praying that the men wouldn't notice a lone girl hiding in the reeds.
Angling her shoulder at one of the many holes that dotted the walls of her prison, Fynta cried out and hurled herself against it again. Her foot slipped, and her head took the brunt of the impact meant to be absorbed by her torso. Fynta hissed, then blinked away the dark edges of her vision. She was panting, shivering from the temperature of the pool while sweating with a primal need to escape.
Fynta growled against the pain and planted her feet for another strike. She’d knock herself senseless before allowing them to submerge her again. Anything to avoid the past that crept up her legs as the water began to surge in once more.
Distantly, Fynta was aware of frantic motion beyond her tomb. The glass was fogged by her breath, and she couldn’t lift her hands far enough from where they’d been chained at the bottom to wipe it away. Then, the top wrenched open with the screech of metal and hydraulics, and a too-large figure splashed into the cage with her. Fynta struck out with one knee, shouting when it made contact with solid plate instead of pliable flesh.
“Damn, boss,” the gravelly voice complained. “That any way to greet your shining knight?”
“Vik?” Fynta blinked, taking in the tendrils on the back of her companion's head as he knelt below the murky surface. A second later, Fynta’s hands were loose, and she flexed the shoulders she’d strained against for an untold amount of time.
Surfacing, Vik wiped the water from his face. “Fluffy’s been a pain in my ass since you went missing. I was abo—”
Fynta threw herself against the Weequay, burying her face against his armor for just enough time to gather her wits. She needed to leave, to take command and get her soldiers away from this place. Havoc needed to gather the data from the central computer, and maybe plant some charges on the way out. She needed to be strong.
Still, tears of relief fell without her bidding. Fynta squeezed her eyes shut, heaved a shaky breath, and pulled away to tell Vik that he was to never speak of this moment. Instead, darkness enveloped Fynta. It took her a moment to recognize the HUD that connected to her squad. The tight space smelled like Vik. Not the bastard that had been delivered to the Thunderclap in chains, but like the cologne he wore when they had downtime on a planet. It smelled like the man who cheated at cards and took Fynta’s barbs with a laugh.
“Talk to your man,” Vik growled, pressing his face to the visor to be heard while tugging on Fynta's shackles. “I’ll deal with these.”
Their eyes met, and Fynta knew that Vik understood. He’d given her a moment of quiet to compose herself. He’d given her a piece of her dignity back. It was enough to quell the terror that had boiled inside her for too long. Fynta cleared her throat and activated the squad line. “Listen up, Havoc Squad. It’s time to get back to work.”

Horse Trails
Here's some more Vincent Shield and Dmitri
Vincent belongs to @ashintheairlikesnow
TW: broken bones, falling from a horse, blood
-
The wind whistles through the trees like classical music that drifts through the walls into his dressing room. Bird sings choruses to rival any musical, pairs coiling around each other’s notes like two solos harmonizing.
Vincent’s fingers work around the leather of the reigns. Chick Pea, the horse Dmitri’s uncle lent him to ride on the trails with Dmitri, walks over brambles and leaves. Dmitri rides a few feet ahead of him walking down through a stream. Today, while the sun waned in the sky as it dips for winter, we bask in the fall chill as we head up for a cliffside to have lunch.
“I remember doing trails like this with my Dad,” Dmitri says as he guides his horse, Thrasher, up and over some logs.
“It’s nice,” Vincent replies absentmindedly, his thoughts as far in the clouds as they were in the woods. “What was it like?”
“Like this,” Dmitri says as he wraps the reins around the horn of his saddle, “He gave me a lot of life advice on these trails.”
“That's nice.” Vincent pulls some on the reigns, steering towards the trail. A little bit of anxiety nibbles at his fingertips. Dmitri and he rode around the field around his uncle’s barn a few times before but he was always close enough to civilization so if anything happened he could get help. Now, they were nine miles from Dmitri’s truck, and 50 miles from any hospital. It did not help that he saw Dmitri get thrown the last time they were riding around.
“How did you learn how to ride?” VIncent asks as his fingers knit into the saddle, “It's a bit nerve racking the first time you really go somewhere.”
Dmitri laughs, it’s a warm sound that always brings a smile to Vincent’s face, “Oh yeah, my first time Dad drove out to a valley and threw me on Vortex and I had to figure it out on a 20 mile trail.”
“What!”
“Yeah,” Dmitri chuckles, “Also was the first time I fell off a horse too, horsefly bit Peppers and I went flying.”
Vincent laughs nervously, “That's… something.”
“Don’t worry so much Vee,” Dmitri reassures, “ChickPea is an old mare, I highly doubt she has the energy to throw someone off anymore.” Dmitri slows his horse and rides next to Vincent. He reaches over and rubs Chickpeas pale fur. A beaming smile brightens the entire trail.
“It’s nice to get away,” Vincent murmurs as he passes the reins mindlessly from one hand to another. He adjusts the straps on his helmet and falls into the rhythm of the horse’s gait. “No one follows you with a camera and a microphone.”
Dmitri smiles, “Yeah, just nature and the occasional angry buzzard.”
“Angry buzzard?”
Messing with Thrasher’s bit, Dmitri winces, “Once I came out on a trail with a cousin and my presence angered a buzzard, I smelled like a carcass for a week.”
Vincent chuckles, “I would have paid to see that.”
His eyes flick to the bags tied to Thrasher’s back, He wonders how they have not spilled open since Thrasher has been the furthest from clam this entire trail. Vincent’s eyes wander to the tree line.
ChickPea rears, throwing her front legs in the air. Vincent grabs vainly at the reins. They instantly slip from his fingers. He falls back and a foot escapes the stirrup.
Time stalls for a second before going too fast.
Every drop of oxygen rips from his chest. His ribs scream as they slam into the dirt. He rolls and drops into a stream channel.
White vision as a spiking pain rips at his rib cage. Vincent gasps for air to replace the air that fled his chest. Warmth spreads across the underside of his shirt. VIncent can not see anything but white. He hears footsteps and his voice but everything is slurred together.
There’s a hand on his chest.
It’s pulling up his shirt.
Nonononononononono
Vincent’s hands fly up and push away at the hand on the hem of his shirt, “Wait- stop, please.” Panic biles in his throat as the warmth spreads across his chest. Pain, as hot and piercing as the solstice sun consumes the very fiber of his flesh.
Please not again.
Motor oil. The faintest smell of motor oil brings Vincent’s mind back to the surface. His vision clears just enough for him to make out Dmitri’s features.
“Vee!” Dmitri says, finger wrapping around the hem of his shirt, “I need to look at your chest.”
“Wait wait w-what.”
Vincent looks at himself and sees a pool of red staining his shirt around his ribs. His breath shortens as he shakes his head, “I-I’m bleeding.”
“I know sugar,” Dmitri says, calming himself and taking one of Vincent’s hands, “I need to see your chest to see what’s making you bleed, okay?”
“But- don’t take it off, please. I can’t-”
Dmitri interrupts, “I won't, I promise, I just need to see what is making you bleed.”
Vincent nods, his vision spinning around everything but Dmitri’s face, “Y-yeah but don’t take it- it. He-”
Dmitri gives Vincent his hand and Vincent takes it and squeezes it. Knuckles whitening around Dmitri’s dark fingers. Tears run down his face as emotions and memories fill his mouth with bile.
Dmitri looks under his shirt and his jaw sets. He reaches up and undoes the bucket on Vincent’s helmet and sets it next to him. Vincent’s eyes wander to the helmet, a large dent looms at him from the floor.
That could have been my skull.
“Vee, I need to go and get ChickPea and Thrasher because one of them has bandages in their bags. I need to go get them.”
Vincent nods, breath heavy as the pain in his chest weighs on him like sleeping under a hydraulic press. He looks up. Vincent is sitting in a dry brook, a three-foot drop is behind him.
How far did I fall?
The rocks surrounding him dig through his clothes. Wet tears dry on his cheek as his vision clears and the pain stays in his chest. Vincent becomes very aware of the crimson pooling under his shirt and something embedded in his chest. All the while, something underneath sends sharp pains through his body with every pulse.
Horse hooves echo to his left. His hearing feels slightly clouded like a delay between a video and a broken pair of headphones. Vincent blinks and his vision darkens and then suddenly Dmitri is over him again with bandages.
“I need you to hold up your shirt while I get this rock out of your skin and bandage you, can you do that?” Dmitri says as soothingly as he possibly can.
Vincent wraps his hands around the hem of his shirt. He, taking a deep breath, lifts the hem. His hands shake violently. The longer he holds it, the more fanglike memories nibble at his ears. Thoughts of Owen threaten to devour him and tear open his throat.
“That’s not good, Vee this is going to hurt, alot.”
Water hits the skin around the wound. Vincent screams. The pain whitening around his vision and he slams down his shirt. Tears pour freely from his eyes as he sobs.
“Please it hurts so much, please stop.”
Dmitri kneels at his side. Vincent’s sight blurs and spins once more, for a moment he swears that it’s Owen kneeling next to him. He tries to scramble back but it hurts too much to move.
“Vee, there’s a rock embedded too far in your chest to remove safely here and two of your ribs are broken. I have a first aid kit in my truck. I am going to wrap the wound up and we are going to ride back, I’m going to redress the wound and then take you to the ER okay?”
Vincent shakes his head. The only thing grounding Vincent to the fact that it is Dmitri at his side is the faint smell of cheap woody cologne and motor oil. “I- It hurts too much to ride.”
“I know sugar but it’s either two hours on horseback or three on foot. We need to get you to a hospital as soon as possible.”
“But-”
“Vincent, please we need to get you back. I know it hurts but you need to see a doctor okay.” Dmitri scoops up Vincent and walks towards Chick Pea. Vincent’s fingers grip into Dmitri’s shirt, fear building in his eyes.
“What if I get thrown again!”
Dmitri presses a kiss onto Vincent’s forehead, “There was a rattlesnake that spooked her, and I will make sure she doesn’t do that again.”
Vincent shakes in his arms, tears pouring from his eyes and a glaze of terror covers his gaze. He sobs as the pain in his chest thumbs with his heartbeat. Dmitri works the helmet back onto Vincent’s head. Guilt sits in his joints like deadweights.
Dmitri puts one of Vincent’s feet into a stirrup. He helps him onto ChickPea once again and takes the reins. Guiding Vincent’s hands down to the horse’s mane, Dmitri orders, “I need to hold onto her mane, it’ll keep you upright and it is stronger than you are, I am going to guide ChickPea back to the truck. You are going to be okay.”
Vincent nods and grips onto the horse’s mane. He sobs, gasping for air that does not hurt to breathe. He does not get what he wants.
Dmitri swings back onto Thrasher and starts back for the truck.
Vincent doesn’t remember the two hours of pain that it takes to get back.

Whumptober Day 7 Prompt: I’ve Got You. (Carrying)
Lone Wanderer x Charon, Fallout 3
Tumblr media
It felt as if they’d been fighting for days - the worst he’d seen in decades. Shotgun shells fell at his feet, his gun warm in his hands - the air stank of blood and gunpowder and piss and the hints of ozone that were the trademark of energy fire. All around him Jefferson Memorial was crumbling, the air clouded with plaster dust and smoke. It stung his nostrils.
Charon had never felt more alive - but in the way a rabbit felt alive, mid-chase.
Zaychik. The little rabbit that was his employer - Elizabeth - a slip of a girl with frightened eyes and fast reflexes. She was across the room from him, well guarded by the Lyons girl. Occasionally she’d peek out from her hiding spot and peel off a few shots from her laser pistol, always tucking her head back in before the volleys of return fire. Always the little rabbit was visible in his periphery, always he watched her - even after he’d trained her, even after she’d escaped the Enclave on her own. It was written in his conditioning, no matter how well he knew she could take care of herself.
Still, her shots went wide - Charon couldn’t improve her aim any further in his attempts - and the Enclave kept coming. The barrel of his shotgun steamed, pellets ripping through rubber joints of figures in power armor. Centuries had taught him well, firing solutions and hostile counts running in his head alongside the position of his zaychik.
“They keep coming!” Lyons shouted over the din, her voice distorted by her helmet. Lizzy looked panicked, darting her eyes between him and the Paladin. Charon could hear the crackle of her radio even as she spoke, communications from other knights filtering into the Paladin’s ear. “Shit. They’ve blown the outer wall, they’re making their own entrance.”
“How long until your people intercept them?” His employer yelled back, her voice powerful in spite of her stature.
“I don’t have any more people.” Lyons’ words were punctuated by sprays of fire from her laser rifle. “I’ve got a squad moving to reinforce our position, sending them back around to the breach will take too much time. We have to pull back.”
“I won’t-”
“I will hold them.” Charon interrupted, knowing precisely what Lizzy was about to say. They couldn’t leave the main door undefended, and she would refuse to leave him behind - but to his displeasure, Lyons had power armor and advanced medical supplies at her disposal. He had leather armor and bandages. The better protector in the situation was clear - and Lyons could take out a small squad with ease.
“Charon-” Lizzy started to say, but he shook his head firmly.
“I won’t be alone long.” he interrupted again. Lyons nodded her agreement before nailing an Enclave soldier in the visor, his body turning to ash within his power armor. It clattered to the ground, another stumbling block for the incoming onslaught. The bodies were piling up, and he could see each one chip at his employer’s frayed nerves.
She swallowed, caught between a rock and a hard place. Plasma flew past her by only a few inches - Charon lobbed a grenade into the fray, noting it was his last. He’d have to scavenge more from the dead. There wasn’t enough time - she knew as well as he did, and with a reluctance he’d come to recognize she turned and said something to Lyons, drowned out to his ears in the gunfire.
Lyons shifted her position to provide cover to his employer, who scurried to the door to the purifier room. The Paladin stood stalwart as he never could - the knight in shining armor he could never be - the reflective plating of her armor deflecting fire. Lizzy looked over her shoulder at him as she opened the door, plasma fire peppering the wall around her. Her eyes shone, lip quivering with words left unsaid.
Charon tore his eyes from her and took advantage of Lyons’ distraction to wreck hell on the invading Enclave soldiers. He killed enough to grant himself a moment to snatch the grenade belt off of a downed grunt. When he turned to slip back into cover, Lizzy and Lyons were gone - the door shut.
A year before, when she’d first hired him, the idea of her out of his sightline was unthinkable. Together they’d bent and stretched the boundaries of his conditioning to make it possible, but still he heard the high pitched whine in his ears and felt goosebumps sprawling across his ruined skin - ingrained reminders of his duty.
Time was a slippery thing in the heat of combat - bloodshed made it hard to grasp. Charon didn’t know how long he fought, but in what felt like only a few minutes he could see laser fire spraying into the hallway beyond the chamber that led to the purifier. Lyons’ reinforcements had come.
Cleanup was swift, the Enclave pincered between two forces. The leader of the squad, designated such by the paint on his armor, hastily directed his men to take cover once the last hostile fell. “We’ll have more incoming.” The leader - a man - called over to Charon. “They’ve flooded the place. I don’t know how much longer we can hold them.”
Charon’s priorities were single minded. “Have you heard from Lyons?”
“They’re holding the purifier.” The squad leader replied, sending tingles of relief down Charon’s spine.
They hunkered down in preparation for the next wave. He was running low on ammo, he noted - but his concerns were overridden when a great rumbling noise sounded from the purifier room. Charon and the other combatants stumbled as the ground beneath their feet shuddered. Metal pipes beneath the floor groaned, followed by the sound of rushing water.
It all happened in the span of a breath. In the next breath Charon turned to face the door to the purifier chamber - it was thrown open, Lyons marching through and placing her helmet back on her shoulders. “EVACUATE!” she cried - and Charon realized that Lizzy wasn’t behind her.
The goosebumps on his skin raised further as air from the purifier chamber rushed out into the lobby he’d fought in, shivers of sensation rippling through his body. Charon’s fingertips tingled, the air he breathed felt clearer, and he didn’t need to hear the screeching of Lyons’ geiger counter to know what lay beyond.
In the next heartbeat he was sprinting into the purifier chamber, the radiation pouring out of it as invigorating as the most concentrated Psycho. It was dark, the intense radiation frying the circuits in the lighting - the only illumination came from the purifier itself. Charon’s eyes scanned the floor. A body in a trenchcoat lay on the ground - the same man that was responsible for the death of Lizzy’s father - and as he lifted his eyes to the purifier itself he saw something that made his blood run cold.
A small figure silhouetted by intense green light, staring up at the statue within the main tank.
His employer.
His little rabbit.
Lizzy.
At once the screeching in his head began, as wicked and intense as Lyons’ Geiger counter. Charon bolted to the outer airlock door and punched in the entry code - as it slid open he was buffeted by another wave of radiation. He could hear his heart rate increase, the blood and adrenaline pumping through his veins in a great rush. The pain inflicted by his conditioning was made all the more severe by the awareness and sensitivity the radiation granted him.
Lizzy’s back was to him as he slammed his fist against the inner airlock panel, the digital display continually flashing LOCKDOWN with every press. He watched her stumble forward and slump to the ground.
It felt like he was being set on fire, every nerve of his alighting in agony, screaming at him to aid the holder of his contract. Worse was the horror that arose from his own mind - she had fallen, and he watched her the way she’d watched her own father slump to the ground.
No.
Charon drew his fist back and bashed it into the glass of the inner airlock door. It cracked, and he continued to rain blows upon it even as his knuckles bled with embedded shards. On the fifth blow in half as many seconds the glass shattered, his arm punching through. The glass shredded his ruined skin, but the pain of it paled to the pain ripping through his mind. With the glass paneling gone he was able to wrap his hands around the middle rail of the airlock door. With strength granted to him by the radiation and his own sheer panic he began to lift it.
The metal groaned and buckled, as did his legs - muscles straining to grant him enough purchase to grab her. Radiation rushed around him, made him light headed - even the blood pouring from his hands and arm couldn’t weaken him. Sweat flowed down his skin, the salt stinging his wounds - it was hot and humid, the purifier generating steam. At last, he hoisted the door high enough to cause a failure in the hydraulics. It crumpled upward, and he rushed in.
It had been less than a minute since he’d first entered the room, but each second was precious. Charon lifted his employer’s body into his arms - she was limp, light as a feather. The noise in his head was still screaming, the ache severe - it echoed the screaming of her pip-boy, the needle of the rad gauge vibrating at the edge of the scale, beyond the red zone.
He cradled her against him as he did when he carried her to her bed in Megaton after she inevitably fell asleep at her desk, but this time it was all wrong - Charon was running through corridors of the Memorial, passing by Enclave and Brotherhood of Steel soldiers alike trying in vain to crawl to the exit or collapsing on their feet, broken and faulty seals of centuries-old suits letting the poison air overcome them.
Lizzy had no metal to cage her, she’d stood in the radiant glow and looked as if it could wipe her off the face of the earth. The sight was still burned into the back of his eyelids. Everything stank of blood - the air tasted of it, the metal tang of radiation so similar to the coppery flavor of blood. Charon’s own blood poured forth from his arms and hands, stained his employer’s armored blue jumpsuit, and he found the edges of his vision beginning to fog.
Charon stumbled, but kept running - at last he saw the fire door that led to the outdoors, the red exit sign above it glowing bright as a beacon. He used his shoulder like a battering ram and nearly knocked it from its hinges.
In stark contrast to the muggy heat of the purifier the air of the Capital Wasteland was ice cold - it was early January, and a thin layer of snow coated the ground. Around the purifier it had begun to melt. Vertibirds soared away in the distance, he could see the shining armor of Brotherhood soldiers evacuating across the nearby bridge. Charon’s blood splattered against the ground, and yet he stumbled forth looking all the zombie bigots had thought him to be. He made it to the line of snow and collapsed to his knees, crimson staining the white powder. Charon fell back, letting his employer fall against his lap.
Lizzy looked dirty and beaten in contrast to the pure snow - like the discarded and moldering teddy bears she was so fond of collecting. He cupped the back of her head and tilted her to face him - a steady stream of blood was trickling out of her nostrils, a sliver of her eyes visible beneath hooded lids, every vessel within them burst. Her sockets were bruised and purple, the skin of her face bright red as if she’d fallen asleep in the sun. Charon wished with all his being that it was all it was, that she’d scratch at it and whine and come through with her freckles all the clearer like she had so many summer days.
She was like a ragdoll, arms falling limply to her sides. He didn’t know what else he could do but hold her, his lifeblood spilling down her back. Lizzy had always held the medical supplies and they’d run out in the lead up to breaching the Memorial. There was nothing that could be done.
Even though his palm spanned half her ribcage, he felt more fragile than she - the young human in his arms had been his anchor even beyond the contract, a fixed point he could rely on. Charon allowed himself the scarcest dreams in her company, he’d felt like a living being rather than a tool. Lizzy had shown him strength beyond the physical, had carried him through countless storms.
Now what was once so full of life lay motionless in his arms. Charon crouched over her and pressed his forehead against hers, as if by will alone he could transfer the life left in him to her. What had given him life had drained hers in an instant - and why should it have ended any other way? They were always worlds apart, he had been taught this lesson before - and yet he had allowed himself to hope, he had believed that they could find a way to set him free.
Charon placed a hand at the side of her face, leaving smudges of bloody fingerprints in his wake. He babbled breathlessly in his mother tongue, prayers and hymns and curses from a culture long dead. Snowflakes began to fall, landing in her hair.
The screaming in his brain quieted as his conditioning caught up with reality. His employer was deceased. It didn’t cut the pain in his chest or stop the tears that were freezing on his face - that was his own, the one thing the men that created him could not possess.
He held her and broke apart inside like glass, hunched over her body in silent vigil. His blood steamed in the cold air, and soon the edges of his vision began to blacken.
Perhaps this would be the last mercy she’d offer him, the glass in his arms saving him from another employer, another long night after so brief a moment of sunshine. He’d always told himself she’d be his last employer - one way or the other.
Charon closed his eyes, and hoped he’d never open them.

Boom Lift Hire
Lifting platforms are booming in the construction sector. However, check all parts before purchasing. It is recommended as the customer often has problems with the machine. The customer accuses the seller and vice versa. The problem is big or small; it doesn't matter because it ultimately affects the way the machine works. You should always inspect the machine before using it, not before purchasing it.
It is recommended that you call an agent who will thoroughly inspect the machine for you. Includes verification of functions and safety devices. Inspection seems to be time consuming, but it is a really important process as no one wants to have an accident while it is running. Due to the increasing number of breakdowns in the operation of aerial work platforms, people are increasingly aware of the correct use and safety measures of the machine.
Close monitoring of the machine can prevent accidents. This can be done by checking the engine and the oil level, color, and odor. Oil should be replaced when it smells bad and is dirty. Check all wiring whether it is in place or not. Check all engine functions and make sure the upper and lower controls are working properly or not. Check hydraulic drives for leaks. Any leak can be dangerous. Make sure you cannot hear any movement noise. In many cases, the aerial work platforms were separated from the center section. This can happen due to the additional load that is kept on the lift. Thoroughly examine pens, hands, pins, and plugs. These are high pressure areas and should be carefully examined to see if they have a vacuum or not. Take a look at the tower too. Once the basket leaves the floor, check the movement of the basket. The movements of the basket must be limited, that is, in 6 or 7 steps.
Finally, it is necessary to check the oars, review all the precautions and see if the support nuts are restricted or not. When you have completed all of this, make sure all functions are intact. These are really very important steps to avoid any kind of mishap. If you intend to buy new parts for the machine, make sure it is in good condition. We all know that these machines are very heavy and that you should buy them from a reputable company to replace damaged parts during the warranty period. There are millions of companies offering machines for sale and rent.
Types of aerial work platforms:
There are several types of aerial work platforms on the market. Every machine is different in some way. Some have a higher working height, others are slightly different. However, they all work on the same principle. A large basket-shaped platform is attached to a platform that can be slid up and to the sides. It also has a kind of hinge that allows it to move up and down. The platform or basket is covered with a cage or has a safety railing. As soon as the operator has stepped onto the platform, the ground operator or platform control raises the platform to the desired height.
Arm arms are very useful for increasing height. Their limitation is that they can only extend vertically and their rotation is limited only laterally. Articulated arms and aerial work platforms offer very precise access to inaccessible places. His good example is aircraft maintenance. Elevators are very similar to cranes, but their movements and controls are completely different. Aerial work platforms are much larger compared to AWPs, for example passenger and scissor lifts, which are very compact for office and office use. Aerial work platforms are used in areas such as construction sites and major events.
Today there are many service providers that can offer you the rental of access platforms. You must choose a company wisely for the job you want.
