There is never a question as to where a shinobi may attack - it is only when.

The unseen blade is the deadliest, and this statement rings all too true when daggers fly through an ice storm.  Appearing before the crowds of fashion comes the silvery and silent beauty of the Himlamb Nightstalker.  This white-and-blue battle suit helps the shadow walkers blend in during colder moons, but expert shinobi can remain undetected in any setting.  The Mist Queen helped in this artifact armor's design, and emphasized the importance of keeping a Ninja's identity hidden, revealing nothing save for the wearer's eyes.  The latent ice aether also aids in swift escapes as the Ninja can avoid danger in a flurry of snow.

On the more offensive side, the daggers which make the Ninja's weapons of choice are a special pair of armaments known as "Muyo Yari" - "Spears of Rime" in the Hingan tongue.  Whenever a Ninjutsu is performed, the armor reacts with the release of energy and forms a small aetherial dagger of ice which levitates above the wearer.  These daggers continue to materialize until the Ninja performs a Hyoton, or "Ice Release", and when the forbidden Mudra Kassatsu is performed, the daggers enlarge and joins their power with that of the Hyosho Ranryu technique, pelting the unfortunate victim with countless ice shards - like a mini-Chimatsuri.

Leaving as quickly as it arrives, the ephemeral beauty of a shinobi's deft movements is reflected through this attire.  But there shall be no cause for doubt that the Himlamb Nightstalker's Yoroi will leave a lasting impression in the fashion realm.

YUKI HEADCANONS !

on haku’s mother, ayai.

haku’s mother ayai, was, by all accounts, quite ordinary. 

she was not a warrior. since tribal appointments were not totally inherited, everyone knew she would most likely not be the successor of yuki raijiri’s war party. 

she did not possess any special skill when it came to hyōton, and she could not use hyōton or jutsus due to having a disease that made accessing her chakra excruciating and unpredictable. 

she could, however, tap slightly into the yuki spirit powers known as kamuy. for ayai, her kamuy manifested as the ability to see someone’s aura, but using the ability caused debilitating migraines.

as a result, the matriarch yuki tsukimono’s heritage — her oracular abilities  — bypassed her entirely. 

on yuki clan vs. yuki tribe.

the yuki tribe are known as the “yuki clan” by those outside of snow country/people unfamiliar with their actual culture, largely due inaccurate reports written about them. among the tribe itself, they are not known as the yuki -- they are the Hekaci-Mata, the Winter Children.* **

they are an indigenous tribe from snow country. after a schism among the Hekaci-Mata occurs, several tribes split off and immigrate to water country. the head tribe of the Oracle supposedly disappeared into a sacred mountain and disappeared. a small tribe remains on their ancestral grounds, and their descendants exist in snow country proper.

* this blog will move between referring to them as the Yuki Tribe and the Hekaci-Mata both for clarity’s sake and to represent haku’s perspective. haku does not know the deep lore of their ancestry, and knows only the biased rumors and regurgitated half-truths that are known within water country and kiri. threads, AUs, and asks taking place after haku begins learning more about their culture will reflect their updated knowledge.

** the language used here is the Ai.nu language. the Ai.nu are an indigenous group primarily native to japa.n’s modern-day hokka.ido region. despite efforts on the part of the japa.nese government to erase their culture and existence, they are still alive today.

on the yuki tribe’s leadership structure.

within snow country, they are known as a collection of subtribes led by chieftain equivalents. the chieftains support and answer to the Kamuy-Kara-Puto-Ya-Mosir ( ai.nu trans. “the mouth of water” ), a yuki born with special oracular abilities, who is tasked with guiding the collective tribe toward prosperity, communing with the kamuy that exist within everything, and maintaining the balance between kamuy, humans, and demons. when balance is disrupted, the Oracle sends one of the Isepo, a shaman-class subtribe, to assess the situation. their duty is to restore balance and, in some cases, capture the kamuy or demon with hyoton and return it the Oracle. she releases the creature back to the kamuy realm.

the Oracle is always guarded by the Ikor ( ai.nu trans. “the sheath” ), who often doubles as the Oracle’s guardian and the head of the united tribes’ battleband.

on yuki names.

all Hekaci-Mata have a konru name ( ai.nu trans. “ice” ) and a wakka ( ai.nu trans. “water” ) name. the konru name is the one given to outsiders and foreigners; for example, haku’s grandmother’s konru name is tsukimono; it is a name from the external culture with zero connection to her, therefore no one can claim power over her by using it derisevly. one’s wakka name is kept private and used only among ones tribesmen. one’s an-noski ( ai.nu trans. “midnight” ) name is reserved for lovers and close, intimate relationships.

SETSUTON: SNOW RELEASE.

Snow Release (雪遁, Setsuton, lit. Snow Release) is a kekkei genkai mastered by Yukinohana Yoshino. 

Based on the close observation of Hyoton, Ice Release, it combines Suiton and Fuuton to create snow. Snow is used as a mean to slow her opponents or reduce their visibility, also making the battling environment less favourable to them by drastically dropping the temperature: this does not effect her, being used to snow as she is by living in Tetsu no Kuni.

While Setsuton does not directly freeze anything to the touch, a long-lasting exposition to it will eventually create ice over most metallic surfaces, turning armor and weapons into hindrances instead of means of protection or aggression.

Setsuton is usually used from a distance, to block the field of view or restrict movements, nonetheless Yoshino is also able to release snow from the tip of her hands or her blades in contact with an opponent’s body, forcefully lowering their temperature and causing pain or mobility impairments.

[ HEADCANON — SOSAS ] TENTEN’S FAMILY

IZO YUKI — Born 2 BNB.  He is Tenten’s husband, married in 22 ANB.  Izo is a full - blooded member of the Yuki clan of the Land of Water; he hails from an immigrant family of three, who successfully survived the genocide that took place in the Land of Water, escaping by boat and sailing to the eastern coast of the Land of Fire.  He is trained from the wee ages as a carpenter by his parents, residing with his mother and father in the south - eastern forested land of the Land of Fire.  They are a hard-working family who make an honest living as tree farmers and carpenters, and overall odd jobbers should opportunity arise.  Izo, and his parents, keep their shinobi skills sharpened out of fear that they will one day be tracked down, but they keep their skills secret, even from their clients / community in order to protect themselves.  Izo is capable of producing the fabled ice techniques / release ( HYOTON ) of the Yuki clan.  He is a lithe, yet well - built and capable, man with short black hair, purple eyes, a baritone voice, pale peach - toned skin, and a beauty mark located underneath his left eye on the peak of his cheekbone.

ZHENJIN YUKI — Born 24 ANB.  He is the first - born of Tenten’s twin boys, born 4 and a half minutes before his fraternal twin, Sun.  Due to the era of peace that he is born into, he does not have to hide his ability to utilize ice release, an ability and proficiency that he inherited from his father / father’s genes.  He relies heavily on his abilities in ice release, rarely using weaponry like his mother, and training more with his father.  Though, he does ask to train with his mother for close - combat training and aim proficiency, from time to time.  He has his father’s black hair and eye shape, but has his mother’s chocolate - chestnut eyes and sun - kissed skin.

SUN YUKI — Born 24 ANB.  He is the second - born of Tenten’s twin boys, born 4 and a half minutes after his fraternal twin, Zhenjin.  Neither boy has to hide their ability to utilize ice release; however, Sun is much less adept as his brother is, and chooses to rely on usage of weaponry in addition to his icy abilities.  He is much of a stereo - typical mama's boy, and spends an extensive amount of time training with her.  He takes large interest in her business adventures too, often sitting in her office during client meetings, etc.  Sun has chocolate-colored hair, and eyes just like his fathers in shape and color, with skin just as pale, if not a shade or two lighter.  He also inherited a beauty mark underneath his left eye from Izo, but they are not identical, Sun's being a smidge closer to his eye.

OC Name: Miko Hirokei

Age (Birthday?): 20-22 [12/21] - Late teens/Early adult when recruited

Original Village/Background: The Land of Permafrost of the Yukigakure. 

Miko was born for the simple fact her physical being could withstand and contain the beast that terrorized the borders of the two villages. Once the beast was sealed within her, she was given up by her parents, giving her to two surrogates that pretended to be her parents but were high ranked Shinobi entrusted with her care and training for her to be used as a weapon in a possible shinobi war. The beast was given the ironic name of the Yuki-Onna, it was a frightening beast as most who encountered it died a icy death and could still be found in their last positions as they were frozen solid.

Her training lead her to take the Chunin exams with a team she knew for less than a month and ranked up fast, eventually becoming an A.N.B.U. around her mid teen years due not only her skill but dedication to protect the village she loved. She was even recognized by the village leaders to be an important asset to them.

She never questioned any mission she was on and was thorough when it came to discreetly taking out anyone who posed a threat; every death looking as if the person passed from hypothermia and frostbite. She was effective and the chakra boost she gained from the monster inside of her made her a force to be reckoned with. She had gained the respect from the village she loved so much and those who didn’t know the truth about her showered her in gifts and praise when they saw her. She was genuinely happy and worked harder to upkeep everyone’s expectations..  

She was kept from the files of her origins, it didnt last for very long. She knew her ‘parents’ weren’t hers; their appearances didnt match hers in the slightest. During the night she broke into the most sensitive files of the village; what she found out made her entire body freeze, metaphorically and physically. She left the room before she was found and went off to find her real parents, hoping that they would want to get to know her after seeing all of her accomplishments.  She was wrong. They started screaming and yelling about how she was a mistake and how she wasn’t theirs due to her birthing reasons. Her heart broke into thousands of pieces. She left their home quietly and set out on a personal mission. She waited for the village leaders next to attend an important meeting, in her ANBU uniform with the mask, and immediately dispatched all of the leaders. She didn’t make a clean getaway, instead she made sure to leave a mess behind, leaving a note. She didn’t have any qualms of leaving the village soon after, leaving the frozen lands she knew and began her travels under a false name, Maiko. She’s listed down in the Shinobi bingo book as “Do Not Engage” as she is a expert dragging out battles with those out for her before toying with him and killing them.

Powers: She has a dual chakra nature for being from the Snow village, both wind and water. She can super cool any water jutsu she knows into ice, altering its original purpose and vice versa for super cooling the wind with water. She uses both the Snow release style and Ice release style jutsu; always working on ways to make them more and more potent. Her skills mostly are to hinder and tire out the opponent then going in for the kill. The more and more she fights with a person, the more snow will start to form around them, making her jutsus more potent as the snow was filled with her chakra. Her trump card jutsu is a personal creation called “Hyoton: Yuki-Musume” It creates an impenetrable snow storm that can be as isolated as five meters in diameter or can get to roughly 30 meters depending how strong she needs it. She uses the snow storm to strike, using  Yuki Henge Yusuo no Jutsu to come at the enemy from multiple directions; disorienting them then knocking them out  she needs them for information, or killing them if they pose a threat to her personal being or to her mission. 

The beast inside of her gives her not only an expansive chakra reserve and stamina boost but also a strong resistance to the cold. Unfortunately this can be used against Miko as she is very susceptible to extreme heat and Katon jutsus. The heat can weaken her quite a bit but only makes her that much more aggressive towards whoever is attacking her. The beast; who she lovingly calls Yukina, refuses to let her die and when she is overly exhausted it will slowly freeze her body into mild coma after a major fight to speed up the recovery process. It will throw off those who arent familiar with her but once she is mostly recovered she will “thaw” out and act as if nothing had happened.

Personality: 

She finds fun in a good fight, jovial at times with the right people once she’s comfortable; will make jokes and whatnot. She’s normally pretty easy to get along with; she’s very calm and compromisable on most things. Though will not hesitate to question motives if it doesnt align with what she thinks is the best course of things. Its caused plenty of infighting when she was a chunin and jounin but didnt hesitate to still do her job. She doesnt see shinobi as black and white, only as grey do to their leaders pulling the strings so she doesnt blame those who try to carry out their missions; only those who gave he missions and caused the loss of life. She has no qualms with killing at her age and has no hesitations unless its a small child or someone she knows is truly innocent. 

Motivations/Goals: 

To take down the very village that deceived her from the day she was born and rebuild it to what she believes is the right way.

Any other notes:

Her fighting style could be somewhat compared to dancing, her movements being extremely fluid to those who are watching from the sidelines. She uses a segmented staff with an open ring in the middle; the metal on the ring and chains being highly chakra conductive and she uses it to flash freeze parts of the opponent to slow down their mobility. 

When she is getting the boost from Yukina, parts of her skin will begin to frost, or freeze, over. It being a side effect of the beast being inside of her. It mostly numbs any pain she would feel for a short time before the cold would start to burn her instead. Its not meant for a long time boost. 

She was recruited while travelling through the waterfall village. Itachi and Sasori were dispatched to recruit due to both being able wield fire, Kakuzu was dispatched on a bounty run once again. It was definitely a battle either side were expecting. It ended up in more or less a draw, Miko’s ice heavily damaging Sasori’s puppet joints and Itachi’s katon burning her more than once. Her being recruited was for there to be a large jutsu range for the Akatsuki to have in their arsenal. She would be paired up at random with preexisting members for certain missions. 

There are certain interactions between herself and other Akatsuki members. Her and Konan have a mutual high respect for each other. Both strong willed women who have unknown potential. She’d do anything Konan would ask with little to no hesitation. She has a mild distrust of and respect for the artist duo, she respects their dedication to their craft but they an easily counter her abilities so she keeps a small distance while friendly.  She and Itachi work well together, the biting cold and the severe heat of their combos being a deadly force together. She works best surprising with Kisame and Kakuzu, their natural chakra natures blending well with her own. She has a hard time working with Hidan however, him not sticking to plans and going off on his own making it hard to truly get the missions done as quickly as possible; their pairing up would be a very rare team up.   She’s only spoken to Pein a handful of times between missions, not having any good or bad feelings towards him; just very neutral with a respect you give a higher ranked officer. She’s only seen and spoken Zetsu a few times, him just only really passing along the message that she’s needed for a mission.

new nickname

so i’ve come up with a new undercover nickname: isbj0rn (technically is isbjørn) meaning polar bear, and literally word-by-word translation is ice-bear

bear was the nickname Y had gave me back when we were dating and personally i think it suited me. i always cherish that she described me so accurately and expressed her love for those attributes. Y was a writer and had such a keen eye, she compared me to a bear, furry, hot tempered, slow and lazy. it can’t get any better than that. 

ice, the element, is something i just recently discovered about myself, and it is based on multiple different (fictional?) theories. 

Horoscope: I was born in Libra period, but near Scorpio’s one. and I feel both zodiac signs represent myself, kind of a mix between those two. funnily enough, there is a term for that, Libra-Scorpio cusp. anyway, the element for Libra is wind and for Scorpio is water. 

Pottermore: so i took the test for fun one day, Slytherin. on the other day, Ravenclaw. and coincidentally, the element for the former is water and the latter is wind. and again, i can relate to both. 

Naruto: suiton (water release) combining with futon (wind release), to become hyoton (ice release). therefore, ice.

after writing this, i realize how geeky i am...

This is the Crystal Release anon. Thanks for the clarification. Do you have any advice for color? Like how Guren seems to favor color pink? with few exceptions. Would ice crystal will fall under Hyoton? And would it have the same strength and weakness as Guren's or should I think something else imaginative? Since diamond pretty much the hardest natural material, and it seems blue diamond are semi-electrical conductivity while most diamond are good insulators.

Yes, Ice crystal would fall under Ice Release. At least, with Haku’s variation of it that we say, I’d say it does. Mirrors and whatnot.

Look into specific types of gems, as diamond is not the only crystal you can use as a reference point, then your color can be derived from that. You could then look into characteristics of said crystal you choose. Like Ruby, it’s super strong with only moisannite and diamond being harder.

it is far from a perfect analog, but if you were looking for a visual example of how haku fights when not solely using hyoton, check out sypha’s  fighting   style ( two videos linked ).  this applies doubly for haku’s style in the jinchūriki au, because you can bet your sweet ass haku uses kokuō’s boiling release to float like sypha.  

haku isn’t a one-trick pony. haku’s chakra natures are water, wind, ice, & lightning; expect to see allllllll four in battle. plus, hyōton consumes a lot of chakra, so haku doesn’t bust it out immediately in battle; they usually save it for containing/holding enemies, quick transport, & unleashing portals once they’ve mastered the final tiers of hyōton. whenever possible, most of haku’s hyōton use is done without hand-seals, because using an actual jutsu rather than simply manipulating water that’s already in the area, takes a lot of energy. & in battle, you don’t burn energy you don’t need to.

as a whole, haku’s style is 99% aerial. they were trained as a compliment to a swordsman, & so they tend to leave ground assault to whoever they fight beside. however, haku & zabuza have switched it up when situations called for it, with haku acting as striker & zabuza buffeting with ninjutsu.

unlike most other chakra natures, hyouton is the only chakra nature  kekkei genkai tied to a specific clan. those not of the yuki cannot use true ice release; this is upheld by canon, though ignored in the shinden novels & movies. 

hyoton ice cannot be melted. to shut down the jutsu, one must either target the user & render enough distraction or damage for the jutsu to drop; wait for the user’s chakra supply to deplete ( hyoton requires high chakra expenditure ), causing the jutsu to fail & the ice’s regenerative qualities to slow, leading to fissures developing in the materia; or overpower the materia’s molecular makeup with raw nature chakra ( nature can unmake nature ) as in the case of kurama’s chakra hitting hard enough to force haku from the mirrorscape & become startled enough for the jutsu to fail. the latter requires an extreme amount of dense, chaotic chakra. 

for these reasons, hyoton is highly effective as a containment jutsu. as long as haku’s physical body is safe & his chakra reservoirs are high, haku can maintain a barrier against most shinobi.
