rft=recipe for turnabout
---
the central part of any case is the actual murder, in RFT, its very obvious who did it. that's not a bad thing however, turnabout beginnings does the same thing and its one of my favorite cases. the difference between the two cases is the setup/payoff of how we know who the culprit is.
the set up in RFT is simple, Phoenix was being impersonated and needed to find who had done it, when we find out Furio is also connected to the case, its obvious he's the one who did it.
The set up in beginnings is simple too, we know Dahlia did something to make Mia hate her, we also know that she is capable of murder and other terrible terrible things, so we can assume shes the one who killed Valarie.
these cases are supposed to work by posing other questions/contradictions besides who the murderer is. for example in beginnings, we know who did it, but we dont know why Dahlia would kill Valarie, why they share a last name, and we dont know how the ending of the case is going to work out because we know neither Mia nor Edgeworth lose a case until turnabout sisters
that intrigue just, isnt there in RFT
There are a few questions that are left unanswered like why Furio had to be Maggie’s lawyer and how the victim is relevent to the case but with the fact that theres less time for set up in RFT (beginnings had an entire case as set up for Dahlia (turnabout memories)) it doesnt feel like there are questions that need to be answered besides who the culprit is, you just know who the culprit is and it plays out like a normal trial beyond that.
While a case can have other strengths, like the characters (i would argue the stolen turnabout is a good aa case, but not because the actual murder is anything special, but because the characters are just so good, Ron and Desiree DeLite are treasures) Furio and Viola are meant to be mysterious and distant, so you dont get that same connection with them as you do with the DeLites or other one off characters, so you get none of the intrigue of beginnings with none of the quirkiness of the stolen turnabout
