slightly back on the sm topic: this is for mostly who don't know: the age gap is also in the manga but Mamoru was a high school student compared to Usagi being 14 yr old a middle school student at the start of it. So still bad but not as bad?? i dunno know the real reason for the further age gap for the 90s anime, but i remember hearing a couple of the directors did not care for Takeuchi's """Ideal man""" (tm) (aka Mamoru) at the time soo -shrugs-

When I think about the time when I was in high school, there was NO WAY I was checking for anybody in middle school. Like… shit’s weird to me idk LOL But I’m the type of person who doesn’t look back once I leave certain eras of my life, like… once I got into college, I didn’t reminisce about high school. Can’t relate, that’s behind me. Same when I left grad school and joined the working adult field; ain’t checking for anyone who has to write essays for a grade anymore. Years ago when I happened upon my undergrad campus again to show my now-husband what it looked like, all the students looked like literal children to me and I was only 5 years older than the average 3rd or 4th year student.

So while I can accept any anime reason for two characters with a slightly sus age gap to be together, irl I have a much harder time wrapping my head around it. I’d be wondering if the dude peaked in middle school as a justification for finding a middle school girl attractive enough to want a serious relationship with, idk. 😂

Also! Mamoru is okay. But if I was Usagi I would have folded for both Prince Diamond and Seiya 🤷🏽‍♀️ Like, Mamoru is just the default MC love interest who is just kinda there. He’s the Jay-Z to Usagi’s Beyonce, if you will. 😂 outside of past life soul ties and the obligations that pulled them together I don’t actually feel like Usagi and Mamoru have chemistry. Seiya would have given Usagi the entire world (anime version at least), and Prince Diamond was about that life and yandere asf… which is 1000000x hotter than whatever Mamoru was coming with.

Hell, I actually own the complete manga set and that scene when Usagi first met Haruka? And Haruka was like:

Yeah. Woulda folded like wet tissue paper. Michiru would have to accept my request for a polycule, idk.

MY POINT IS: everyone had better chemistry with Usagi than Mamoru, they just together by default. 😂
