“Nothing to worry about here,” he says, although she hasn’t asked or even opened her mouth. “I’m just feeling this storm in my knees. Something you’ll understand when you get older. I think,” he adds, giving her a quick once over. His eyes linger on the tightness of her skin, taut over muscle, the power plain in her arms and her thighs. He looks away, up at the sky, assessing the storm pattern.

“Feel the storm?” she repeats, frowning. “In your knees? Is this a spell?”

He laughs. “No, it’s not a spell. Just age.”
