Batman Villain Movie Ideas, Part XXIV: Ra's al Ghul
Ra's al Ghul is yet another villain who has been done multiple times over. This makes sense, as ancient evil organizations secretly controlling the world from the shadows are a favorite tool of movie franchises trying really hard to be epic, even though they are rarely actually interesting or well-written. Ra's and the League of Shadows/Assassins is on the better end of this, I suppose, but even that depends on the version. There are a few things that make him still worth including in a franchise, including his daughter Talia being the mother of Damian, so naturally necessary if you want to include him, and the Lazarus Pit, often used to resurrect Jason Todd, so also necessary if you want to include him.
Origin Movie: He is a natural pick for an origin movie (see: Batman Begins), as he can act as a face to consolidate all of Batman's training to become the warrior he is, rather than a bunch of people all over the world. This can then naturally be extended into his desire to cleanse Gotham of corruption in a much more genocide-y way.
Sequel Movie: I suppose this type of movie would be almost a requirement if you want to use him to introduce Talia or Damian or the Lazarus Pit, and he could be a tool to send Batman on a more treasure hunt-style adventure outside of Gotham.
Finale Movie: As stated before, big evil organization is a favorite of franchises trying to be epic, specifically because they work really well as the villains of a finale movie who were behind everything.
Supporting Villain: As he tends to use and manipulate other villains to accomplish his goals, this tends to go hand-in-hand.
Here are my rankings of them:
Origin Movie: Batman Begins worked for a reason.
Finale Movie: Despite my criticism, it's a favorite of finales for a reason.
Supporting Villain: It's just what he does.
Sequel Movie: Really only would be done to use him as a bridge for other characters.
What do you think? Tomorrow, we finish the villains with our clown prince of crime.
