I've always been into villains, like imagining them loving you or simply being their fav makes me feel special and protected (though I never selfshipped with a vilain before because Thresh is like my first and only f/o, never actively selfshipped before) so when I read his more I was like *brain implosion*

Then I read everything that I could find about him, watched every cinematics the blorbo had taken over my mind and and I was like "you're telling me he's a 2m tall wraith but he can also takes the form of a fucking dilf to pass with humans?????? AND LIKE HE'S SOOOO MANIPULATIVE, HE COULD BE SO SWEET (LIKE KINDA) DOING IT IF HE NEEDED TO, I AM DROOLING ON THE FLOOR. Then Ruination came out (aka the book where you learn his backstory when he was still human) and I just like it sm?? Like yeah he's such a pathetic bastard in it. He wasn't strong, he wasn't kind, he wasn't even cool when he was human. Literally a pathetic wet cat hissing in the rain. And I just love how he has always been a bitch, how Riot didn't try to give him a sympathetic backstory, he had always been a bastard (like yes he was kinda "bullied" by his order, but he was casted out because his personality was insufferable in the first place and because he was a peasant too me think. I think he could have turned way less worse if Helia's order weren't bitches but point is they just watered the seeds that were already there and that fuckass magic book did too) And I've got a whole thing about how his extreme sadism Has evolved with his condition.

AND LIKE HE'S REALLYYYY SMART TOO, HE WAS ALREADY ONE OF THE SMARTEST OF HIS ORDER BUT WHEN RUINATION CAME HE HAD A WHOLE MILLENIA TO CATCH UP ON THE KNOWLEDGE HIS ORDER HAD DENIED HIM (AND HE CALLED HIS LIBRARY "LIBRARY OF AGONY" HE'S SO CRINGE I LUV HIM 😭😭)

hello!!!

fma has been my favorite manga since i was a kid i'm really attached to it 😭 me and a couple friends decided to rewatch the CoS movie together and we both fell down the deep end and have been obsessively rereading and rewatching everything since then. i'm having so much fun i luv fma...

i think what really drew me in was edward himself tbh! he is such a unique protagonist, and especially at the time he was the odd one out among shounen heros—not naive and untalented meant for eternal nekketsu powerups but a boy who had always been frighteningly smart and had gone thru extremely traumatic events and whose goal as a hero wasn't to become The Best at his craft or to save the world but to fix a mistake he had already made.

i was (still am) very attached to him being disabled and how the story manages to include all that this entails (chronic pain, reduced mobility, special needs...) while at the same time engaging in really cool prosthetic design and functions and without ever making it demeaning or pithy toward amputees. arakawa was an absolute genius for how she went about ed's disability.

ed is just such a GOOD character. flamboyant and flawed and unflinchingly moral. self-sacrificing and self-hating but with a drive and devotion to overcome everything. he's a truly unforgettable character and he is insanely enticing as a protagonist in a story like fma, where every plot point is carefully connected to the overall story... like a transmutation circle in and of itself. icarus fell as his wings melted but ed keeps standing back up even with a whole leg missing, even after facing his own punishment for trying to play god. he is loud and bad-tempered and hilarious and his character design is awesome and that would've been enough to make him a fav for me but when u add in his generosity and kindness, which are so painfully obvious despite the prickly exterior, he's Ultimate Fav material. my blorbo my meow meow.

that his personal story is all about love for his brother and trying to fix the terrible mistake he made and which he will forever blame himself for (even tho everyone around him knows that he was only 11 at the time, and it's a miracle he managed to save alphonse at all, and doesn't think he deserves to hate himself for it) is just... it's good ok. it's a wonderful story with a wonderful conclusion. it suits him, his personality, perfectly. edward elric is a marvel of a protagonist.

damn it's hard for me to pick other fav characters bc i love everyone so much. i love izumi and ling and greed (both versions lmao) a lot... and scar and hawkeye and hughes... its too hard to pick.

roy mustang is definitely up there in the fav list tho. it's a bit funny because usually i wouldn't be much into him as a character bc his whole shtick is pretty much "i committed genocide but i feel bad about it" but he managed to have enough personality and flair to make himself vital to the story and extremely enticing too. it helps that everyone in fma has so much chemistry together, so his team has a lot of charisma. if mustang had been alone or even with just hawkeye or hughes i don't think he would've been nearly as interesting to me. i do think the story should've gone a bit deeper with his goals bc people tend to forget that he doesn't just want to become fuhrer, he wants to disestablish the military state altogether and make it so war criminals (including himself) can be tried legally. his ultimate goal can be seen as very selfish in that way—he wants to be made to face justice. and to the end he's not reluctant to use every tool at his disposal, including marcoh's last philosopher's stone from ishval to heal himself... that's the sort of plot point that leaves you feeling a bit sick and makes him into a character worth his weight in salt.

it's cool to put his choices next to ed's. like ed literally refused to use his deadbeat dad's philosopher's stone, which was made from people from 400 yrs ago that he never knew and who would've been dead anyway and whom hohenheim actually talked to in depth, to save alphonse; instead he sacrificed his most precious passion. and he refused to use kimblee's philosopher's stone when he almost died in baschool—instead he used his own damn lifespan to heal himself just enough not to die lmao. meanwhile, mustang, even while expressing reservations and acknowledging all that it means, used a stone made from the lives of the people he personally massacred. he is what you can genuinely call a morally grey character and that doesn't change thru the story. and i like that.

what are your feelings on your whumpees? Like, what kind of lense do you view them through, what do you think of them... I'm curious, sorry if this doesn;t make sense!

hrmmm lets see so the main ones:

Sawdust- i feel bad for him! writing him is like, writing The Whumpee. Like if you polled every whumpee then it would be him hahaha he was also the first whumpee I wrote with whump in mind. Of course i've written other characters that could be called whumpees, but that was before I was writing them for the whump community specifically. I'm attached to him, he's cute, he's endearing, but overall in my eyes he isn't particularly special? but i still like him and like writing for him

Carus- he was the one I made specifically so i could have a more mature whump story. i wanted him to be a bit of a brat, to play off of Sawdust who is very obedient. again, he doesn't have all that much that's special, but i still luv him hehe

Apollo- oh my big boy apollo, he was my foray into a whumpee that can overpower their whumper. i wanted to go for mostly a gentle giant type and i think i did that fairly well in terms of his characterization!

Rogue- i wanted someone to go with apollo, to kind of be his voice since he doesn't speak much. Rogue is witty and bratty, but not without reason, and that's what makes them still endearing in my eyes. for the record, rogue and apollo came into my brain at the same time, they've always been a pair.

Wreckx- he's my blorbo. my blorbo is my own damn character. he was originally a player character in a shadowrun game i was in (that game wrapped up recently!) and i just loved him so much that i had to keep something going with him in it, and i already loved beating him up so making him into a whumpee was only natural! i love him lots and i also love how... bad he is hehe like, he's a creep and a stalker who just happened to bite off more than he can chew, that doesn't make him a good person, and i think that's so fun to play with!!

IN ANY CASE THOUGH; my favorite songs (in no particular order) are probably kick in the eye, in the flat field, and telegram sam. i think bauhaus's music caught me so off guard at first because their music truly just does not sound like anything else i've ever heard — most of their songs took me a few listens to even get in to, actually, their sound is just so affectionally bizarre and hollow and. well. Goth. BUT I DO REALLY REALLY LIKE IT A LOT......... thank you very much for the recommendations cause i enjoyed them so much and cannot wait to listen to more :'D my favorite song overall is probably mask's title track.. it makes me feel like i'm in a different Dimension. i love it so much

hm hmmmm... if you're looking for more older goth rock music i like siouxsie and the banshees. they're similar in style to bauhaus for sure !!! this one especially is comparable, and it reminds me of post death c!q. obsession is my favorite by them (both the one with vocals and just the instrumenal), its a c!dream song I Love It. haven't listened to a full album by them yet but i rlly want to listen to all of A Kiss In The Dreamhouse because cascade is another rlly good one.

and if you're looking for something more like modest mouse/chasing around men with a garden house/indie rock which. i have been absolutely MESMERIZED by the beauty of indie rock lately calli. its kinda ridiculous how into this genre i am but. i've been listening to this band called Wolf Parade and I'm In Love with their album Apologies to the Queen Mary. if i could make a two part pmv!!! to Dear sons and daughters of hungry ghosts and I'll believe in anything that's c!wilbur centric... well. Im giving storyboarding a shot because those two songs are AMAZING and the way the transition is between them is on the album is SO SO SO rot inducing. something in my brain changed when i listened to this album all the way through i think. out of all the reccomendations i've handed you please place this one very gently in your pocket bcause there is just something So special about this album
