Vriska is a no items/Final Destination girl, and Tavros’s ‘escapes’ probably feel like getting killed by a janky stage hazard. People aren’t allowed to win against her - even if, by her standards, it doesn’t count as a real win.

Given what we now know about her home life, any kind of loss probably sets off alarm bells in her head. 

That’s actually a good point. We haven’t really talked about gender on Alternia - I’ve been saving it for later on, when we have more cultural context - but all of what I’d call the most dangerous trolls are girls. 

The only exception - sort of - is Sollux. But his destructive abilities seem to be a outlier - and the only time he’s used them is when Aradia’s own machinations required it. He doesn’t seem all that dangerous by nature.  

Or even my sprite. 

I’m picturing the tech-flavored Midnight Crew sitting in Gamer Chairs on Derse, scanning everything on my land for vulnerabilities. Jack hates it - it’s such an indirect way to attack someone, that he cringes when someone even calls it an attack. 

What if you just straight-up prototyped an AI? It would be interesting to see how the kernel’s ‘intelligence-boosting’ effect which we saw with Jaspers would work on an artificial mind. 

My intuition is that even the best contemporary AI models would result in an inert sprite, but I do wonder if this could turn something that’s almost an AGI into the real thing. 

Maybe the fireflies are actually related to Sollux’s computing bees, and they also interface with technology in some way. 

I like the idea that they could act as data relays, blinking to each other in binary code to transmit data wirelessly. It’d be a good ‘biotech’ answer to short-range communication technologies, like Bluetooth.

He would do it. Not all the time, and not just for anyone, but he’d absolutely do it if one of his friends caught him in the right mood. You’d never know in advance how he was going to react, but if the stars aligned and you asked him to join in, he’d just stand up and start, albeit complaining the whole time. His dance choreography is perfect. 

Love it. That’s how I approach complex story ideas like this - just throw out all the ideas you have, and see how they gel with the evidence!

Nepeta is interesting to me, because, moreso than any other troll we’ve seen, she really acts like an early 2000s internet archetype. The fact that she actively roleplays suggests one of two things.

Alternia, despite the massive cultural differences between itself and Earth, has an online RP scene roughly analogous to ours. Do you think they roleplay as lusi? 

Alternatively, Nepeta invented roleplay. 

Could be either, could be both. The fact that a non-corpse kernelsprite is rare suggests that something is actively preventing it from happening, but I guess that could just be good old-fashioned predestination at work. 

Maybe the Harlequin's mischievousness is just how the ‘usually a corpse’ rule was enforced in this case, and other sprites were discouraged from breaking it in other ways. 

One Homestuck fanfic (in Russian) called "metatime" what you call "Pebble Theory". Traveling though time is predestined by metatime, but some entities with super powerful control over time can theoretically change the metatime itself, from a hypothetical previous iterations of events. [] - RM

‘Metatime’ is a good framework to understanding a lot of time-travel plots, I think. It’s a good example of how a simple change in perspective really can drastically aid your understanding of a concept.

Lovin’ it! One thing I am looking forward to is, when I’m finished the comic, looking back on the original reactions and theories when the comic was posted live. It’ll be fun to compare my interpretations to other people’s. 

It’s another one I’m kind of happy I didn’t guess. It’s fun to be thrown for a loop in this comic, especially when it’s with a twist that makes total sense in hindsight!

I dunno, it just feels right to me? Maybe it’s my accent, or something, but I’m definitely parsing it as though there’s a ‘h’ in there. I’m notoriously kind of bad at pronouncing things, but I’ve arbitrarily decided that I’m going to die on this hill.

how did you parse the difference between true attraction to men and comp het? i’ve identified as bi for a long while and even dated men, but i feel like the more i look at it, it was just comp het and coping with trauma by being hypersexual rather than true attraction. i know you’ve mentioned vaguely similar issues before, so how did you figure it out?

the first hint for me was being so attracted to a girl in my school that i felt almost confused by it, like What is this feeling??? what does it mean?? and after talking to my then-boyfriend, i realised it was attraction (thanks to him. he’s the one who said “now you can understand how i feel about you” when i told him about it). i remember back when i was questioning whether im a lesbian, id obsessively take sexuality tests over and over again. i followed the “compulsory heterosexuality” and “comphet” tag on tumblr and would read the experiences of other women who’ve experienced similar. id think through my history with men, and compare my “attraction” to them to my attraction to women. id ask myself: WHY do i think im attracted to men? what are signs of me being attracted to men? and as i broke it down i realised i did not find male bodies attractive nor appealing whatsoever nor have i ever, i realised that i actually grew up confused by people’s interest in male bodies, that all my sexual encounters with men were traumatic and unenjoyable to me regardless of what they did, that the only times i enjoyed partaking in sexual activities with men was when id close my eyes and fantasise that the person between my legs was a woman, that i hardly found men physically attractive & at most could appreciate it in the rare cases that i found a man who’s Very good looking (but even then it never translated to attraction, it was moreso “wow, he looks so good! how does he do it?”), i noticed just how different my attraction to women was in comparison, i realised that i felt so much shame & disgust over any interaction i had with men even tho i had no reason to feel that way, i could never imagine a future with any men that was a happy one. like it was always such a depressing idea of the future and such a hopeless one too & i didn’t understand Why that was back then, my attraction to men was almost a choice like “ok... he likes me. ill like him then” or “he seems good looking. ok i have a crush on him now” but it was never natural or automatic the way it was for women, id find features relating to males nauseating or unattractive (their chests, the way their body hair looks, their frame, their voices, their genitals, their hips, their facial hair, etc), and i also noticed that men did not cause me to feel any arousal nor any kind of romantic feelings. i thought about my entire life & everyone ive been attracted to, comparing it to what i knew was genuine attraction (my attraction to girls & women throughout my life) to the attraction i was unsure of. i came to realise most men i “liked” were ones i “liked” bc i actually liked their girlfriends or the women they’re interested in, what i perceived as jealousy of the other women was actually jealousy of the men. i noticed that most men i “liked”, i spent far more time thinking of the women somehow involved with them, than the men themselves. what i thought were “butterflies” bc of some sort of attraction to men were actually just discomfort and anxiety. a lot of it, i realised, was just me trying to feel normal among my (girl) friends who were quite into boys.

but honestly the real way i became sure of it was when i took someone’s advice on tumblr stating that i should sleep w men and focus on how i feel and whether im enjoying the sexual situation or not. it said something like “centre yourself and allow yourself to experience it fully”. for once, i had sex with a man without allowing myself to dissociate or fantasise about someone else. it was horrible & torturous and i distinctly remember crying afterwards and just wanting it to end so badly throughout, it felt similar to my rape almost and i wouldn’t recommend for anyone questioning that they may be a lesbian to go through such lengths. but by the time i did it, i knew that i was a lesbian and am in no way, shape, or form interested in men. i don’t think it was worth it bc i would’ve figured it out at some point anyways without essentially retraumatising myself.

1. Mirandy - Yee, OTP of DWP {The Devil Wears Prada} It all started with Andy and Miranda. When I say all... I mean ALL. Picture it, 2009 or so, I was sitting in my graduate teaching assistant shared office writing my comps for my masters. In a book called “Cyberspaces of their own: Female fandoms online” by Rhiannon Bury, I read about femslash for the first time. Actually, I read about slash, Kirk and Spock fucking in stories written by women online. Then there was a line about femslash. I took to the Googles to learn more about femslash and I think I landed on Passion and Perfection. That pretty much ruined me. I saw some Law & Order: SVU fic and some other bits and pieces then my eye noticed one of my favorite movies ever, The Devil Wears Prada. Once I clicked on that link it really changed my life. I had never heard of fanfiction or femslash before that day and I had no idea what kind of effect it would have on my future. I don’t mean for this to read so dramatically, but fanfic really helped make my life what it is today. You see, that day I discovered fanfic I read some hot as fuck Mirandy and flipped the switch in my brain that I needed to take me from straight/bi to bi/lesbian. I would later realize I was never straight and social norms combined with a heavy dosage of patriarchy and homophobia scared my gay ass into straightness. I ran to my best friend at the time @subcutaneous7 and told her what I found and she started to read some too. Turns out, she grew up reading and writing Seven/Janeway and Seven/Doctor in her teens and once she started reading Mirandy it reignited her fanfic love. Also... we would read these stories next to each other, getting more and more hot and bothered, and continue to “just be friends”. Spoiler alert, I’m marrying the fuck out of her in August. So when I say Mirandy started it all. I mean my whole amazing life and future wife.

2. Supercat {Supergirl} In the beginning I was getting Mirandy feels for Cat Grant and Kara Danvers when I’d see posts on Tumblr. @subcutaneous7 and I started watching it together last year and then it took over. Now she’s a prolific writer in the fandom and we met one of our closest friend couples too! Can I also just say, not to brag, but bae writes the best fic I’ve ever read. It’s sexual. 

3. Berena {Holby City} Jesus. Where does one start? Last August/September I noticed some people posting “the kiss” between Bernie and Serena on Holby City. Two early to mid 50′s women sitting in scrubs on the floor of an operating room (which I then learned was called theatre), breath mingling, sharing a very scary moment. Then boom. Like a sack of bricks dropped from above, they kissed and shook the internet. What happened after that kiss is a literal mystery. All I know is @kitscaboodle and I became besties, there was another Berena kiss on the show, I binged seasons 14 - 19 so I could watch every scene with Serena in it, then Bernie was off the show for a desperate amount of time, then she came back and they kissed again... then they killed Serena’s daughter. Before that I wrote a bunch of shit about my feelings on the show and this pairing. Most people don’t agree, but some do. TLDR; After the shit of 2016, I don’t want to put myself through any unnecessary lesbian trauma. I’m not cut out for it. If you are, cool, do you. I’m gonna do me. I’ll still watch when I can, and of course keep up on Tumblr, and I’m still reading fic (which is damn good) and loving the artists and vid makers, but I’m watching with an arms length in front of me.  

4. Patty/Ellen {Damages} The old throwback. It was a little sadistic, it was rife with tight skirts and high heels and brown liquor. Patty Hughes and her personality issues. Sociopathic at times, but good at her job. Family issues. Dreams. Power plays. And how she looked at Ellen Parsons. Imagine laying on a soft bed with your arms and legs tied comfortably, but just so you couldn’t move. Now imagine you’re on that bed and a gorgeous woman walks up to the bed and holds a chocolate (oh, you have to like chocolate in this scenario, but if you don’t imagine your favorite food) just above your mouth. She whispers things to you. The chocolate is still just out of reach. Then everything disappears. The woman, the chocolate, the ties. You’re just alone on a bed. That’s Damages.

5. M/James Bond {James Bond} Don’t ask. I don’t know why either. They are one of two straight ships I can get behind. The other is Chelsie (Charles Carson and Elsie Hughes from Downton Abby). If you learn anything at all about me from this, it’s that there’s something about strong, powerful older women that really does it for me. Can change a zebra’s stripes, and you can’t make older women anything but attractive to me.

Honorable Mention: Seven of Nine/Captain Janeway {Star Trek Voyager} They were my second OTP. The (future) wife and I watched every episode together. We have figurines, commemorative plates, action figures, posters, and memorabilia all over our apartment. Honestly, I could have put J/7 above M/James Bond but it didn’t naturally happen that way. I didn’t remember until I scrolled through my feed. I would also like to mention Captain Janeway/Admiral Janeway here... what an amazing mind fuck of temporal mechanics. It’s interesting and titillating to me to think of a person and their future selves getting together. I’ll just leave that there.

I've looked at a rail season ticket and was shocked to discover it would cost 3008.00 with First Trans Penine. I've also read that the train journey is horrendous. My wife and I share a car but realistically, she can't rely on me to pick her up and drop her off at work at the same time every day (she works in Liverpool) so we would potentially need another car. With that, comes the initial cost of buying the vehicle, then tax, insurance, MOT and weekly fuel, which in my mind will cost even more than the rail season ticket. Added to that is the fact that we're not particularly well off so can't afford more than a couple of thousand for a 2nd hand car. A brand new car on finance would be out of the question. Soooo I lived in Maryland and had a Nissan, someone hit my Nissan and it ended up being totaled. This happened the end of July and a few days later, I moved to Virginia to attend school. Well we are in November and the insurance company took 4 MONTHS to process my claim. They are FINALLY picking up the Nissan tomorrow. I just got a letter from MVA saying that my Nissan's registration has been suspended and that I have to return my plates. It also said that a penalty fee will be assessed for $150 for the first 30 days the Nissan hasn't been insured, plus $7/day for every day thereafter. I did the math and that's about $660! I do not think I should have to pay all this money because the insurance company screwed me over by failing to put my claim through. My claims agent even said that he forgot about my case! I haven't been driving the Nissan this whole time. Do you think that if I provide proof that I had been driving another car (Corolla title and insurance policy info), I will not have to pay these outrageous fees? When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time? Just wondering if anyone has an idea on how much insurance will cost. The insurance for the V6 model I know will be somewhere around $400-$500 a month which is obviously too much for me. I plan on putting a 3k down payment for the Mustang and finance for possibly 4-5years. I also plan on selling my current car for a little over 2.2k. I believe this will only be possible for me to do if the insurance is around $300 a month. The Ecoboost mustang is a 4 cylinder 2 door muscle car but with a turbo engine putting about 305HP. It gets more mpg than the V6 but is faster than the V6. Thank you for any answers and I know for now nothing is 100% true until I actually get a quote. Oh I also live in the LA County area as I know this will sadly most likely increase the insurance cost by 40%.
