SPOILER ALERT: MOONAGE DAYDREAM
-

-
Things on top of my head after seeing Moonage Daydream:
- Very specific stereo sound system mix, can be too loud at times, but most of the times it let the bass go straight to your chair & your heart and my God that was amazing
- Really good visualization, but at times I feel like I'm watching a very dedicated cinematic fanvid., which in a nutshell is technically what the movie is. It's not a documentary chronically his career, though it loosely, very loosely follows chronically his career, but more on how his artistry and opinions evolve and simultaneously stay consistent through time
- Hence, weird pacing at time. The mid part lags on for a bit
- Very focus on his 70s to Modern Love period musically and quote wise. His talks during the 90s were streamlined through out tho so it's actually more than what people think. Still, very 70s focused, but I wouldn't say they didn't try to put a shine on his 90s opinion, they are just divided and shown through out the movie
- I wish there was more Diamond Dogs & Isolar tour (the 1st one) contents.
- The Earl's Court is similar, but holy fuck I love the quality of these videos
- LOVEEEEEEE THE REMIXES. Aside from Heroes. Ironically they butchered that with the loudness & some production issues. HALLO SPACEBOY WAS SO GOOOOOOD I LOVE THIS VERSION SO MUCH. Same as Word On A Wing, Let's Dance, Ashes to Ashes, Space Oddity, Rock n Roll Suicide, Warsawa, Subterranean, V2 Schneider, Moss Garden, All The Young Dudes, those are really good that I can remember. Probably best version of Let's Dance I have ever heard.
- Special things: there are ALOT of mash-up of different songs that turned out REALLY WELL. Like songs I wouldn't think to mix together. Black Star & Hallo Spaceboy was sooooo good. Same as Sound & Vision + A New Career in A New Town, the Modern Love mix was with Station to Station (?) I think. The Word on A Wing + Heroes mash-up was so hopeful and then Heroes was butchered pretty bad.
- Basically, I would go to hear a lot of those music's again. Lots of good quotes, mainly good new narrating from Bowie at the beginning. Man this man is obsessed with his horoscope and natal chart.
- LOTS of stuff you can definitely find online and have seen if you are my deep into the rabbit hole tho lmao just not as good quality. I'm kinda disappointed that the vault was opened and I have kinda seen most of these. Bowie's own footages of stuff are good tho!
- HE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL IM CRYING. That Earl's Court look and the Let's Dance non-perm looks Osjbdhamkxhgghsk his blond hair was soo sooo good
- That vid of him being messy painting his stuff,
Overall, I like it, I wish the pacing was better in the middle, but really good later half and good first half. Overall more of an experience and artistry manifestation of Bowie rather than a documentary. You would learn some and some if you're a casual fan but like, casual fans don't know much about this at least in my area soooooo we have all known most of these things. Musically I would pay to hear those again when they come out. Earl's Court Bowie and Serious Moonlight non-perm Bowie are ethereally beautiful fight me. I'm not paying the IMAX price to see it again but holy shit that sound system.

ANIMATION 101 and 102:
EVALUATION
101
In Semester 1 we looked at how to animate the movement of objects and how the weight, density, material and size - of an object must be considered in order to create natural and realistic movement.
I was tasked with animating a ball tempo, the movement of a pendulum and a wind-up animation. For the wind-up exercise, I tried using the 3D program Maya. I wanted to add a rig allowing me to stretch and warp the size of the cube in order to implement squash and stretch into the model. However, I couldn’t figure this out so I had to leave it as it was. My confusion with using Maya and lack of confidence asking others for help was frustrating. For the next exercises, I used digital 2D and stop-motion mediums. I will practice using Maya and better acquaint myself with the basics and going forward I will need to overcome my reluctance to ask for help.
For the ball tempo, I used Procreate for iPad which I’ve used in the past. I made two variations on the test: a pink orb moving from point A to B at 12 frames per second, and another at 24 frames per second. While exporting the 24-frame test as a gif/mp4, I noticed a flickering effect with circles jumping to different parts of the screen for a frame or two. I discovered the frames were out of order, so I rearranged them. This error was me not adjusting the opacity of the layers temporarily so they could be distinguished from the new frames drawn, then resetting the opacity to full when finished. I’ll remember to do this in future.
I animated the pendulum using paper cut out stop motion on a light box. Filming frames and animating on my iPhone with the app Stop Motion. One was a looping animation, the other a pendulum coming to rest. I'm happy with the result, especially the looping one. I do wish the moment where the pendulum was losing momentum was slightly quicker and less drawn out; my attempt looked unnatural to me. In future, I will keep in mind how long the last few lingering swings of the pendulum should be.
The next part of the course was animating balls bouncing using live action reference footage. I filmed videos of three different balls bouncing. This showed how the weight, size and material of each ball impacts the way it moves. A soft, rubbery, bouncy ball will have more squash and stretch to its movements on a hard surface. A firmer, larger basketball won't squish against the contact point. If a ball is dense and heavy like a bowling ball, it will not squash and stretch, and will give only a few low-level bounces. The three balls I used were a ping pong ball, a tennis ball and a football.
Whilst animating the bounces on procreate, I used reference videos/gifs and went through each frame to make sure the movement felt accurate.
One challenge with the animations was keeping the shapes of the balls consistent. As I was animating frame by frame. I initially just redrew the ball using the frame before it as a guide. Eventually though, I decided to copy the previous layer, paste it to a new one and move it slightly according to the movement. For solid objects such as bouncing balls, I will utilise the copy and paste option in future to keep the shapes consistent and solid.
For Halloween, we were asked to animate either a pumpkin or a spider swinging like a pendulum. I chose the spider. I assumed the exercise was supposed to be done exclusively in Maya. Once again, the program was confusing and hard to navigate, but I did complete it. I later discovered we could have used any medium. If I had time, I would’ve made a 2D version with a frame-by-frame animated spider. I need to communicate better and ask my tutors more questions.
Creating a showreel. I had HD footage of all my animations except those made on Maya. I couldn't find all the Maya files I’d worked on, and some wouldn't open. So, I used a lower-quality version I filmed using my phone. I was also required to download graphics from Blackboard to mark the different clips. The download didn’t work possibly due to my version Premiere Pro not being compatible with the graphic. So, I created a similar graphic from scratch using the Premiere Pro shape tool. For music, I used the royalty free site Mixkit.com, which had free songs I could download that complimented the video and gave it a sense of professionalism without sounding corporate and lifeless. I’m happy with the music I chose.
Overall, I was happy with my 101 showreel. I was not only able to brush up on my Premiere Pro editing skills but also my animation clip editing skills. Learning how to use tools such as the shape tool to create professional looking graphics and discovering useful resources such as Mixkit.com, which I will use again in future projects.
102
Our 1st task for Animation 102, was to create character expression poses. Initially I used Maya, but I encountered difficulties accessing the files from home, so decided to create poses using a stop-motion armature. I made reference videos of myself in the poses and drew them on paper. Then I worked on posing and photographing the armature in the stop-motion booths.  I really enjoyed this process as it was less technically demanding and fickle compared to working with the Maya 3D models and, up to now, I had no experience working with a professional metal, ball and jointed, magnet-anchored stop-motion armature before, so it was a great experience.
The second exercise involved our characters transitioning from one expression to another. I decided my character would transition from curiosity/inquisitiveness to surprise/fear. Using hand drawn key poses and enacting the movements myself, I was able to see how natural movement would occur. For example, if the character was going to raise one leg during the surprised/scared pose, I acted out the movement from leaning in curiously to jumping in surprise to see which leg I would naturally lift, which leg would be on the ground, etc. I animated this sequence and the sitting/standing animation using the Stop Motion app on my iPhone and a small phone tripod. The result was good, but I realised I should have done live action videos of these sequences to use as reference and that the finished film was slightly shaky due to the basic tripod and iPhone set-up. If I were to reuse this set-up, I would need to stabilise the camera and tripod better.
For the third animation, I sought the help of the stop-motion tutor, Owen who showed me how to use Dragon Frame. Using this, I made the walking and sneaking animations. As first attempts, these both looked slightly awkward, but it was excellent practicing using this new software and camera.
Using Dragon Frame, I then completed four further animations; lifting a heavy object, lifting a light object, pulling an object and pushing an object. There were a few practical issues such as, my armature did not have fingers to grasp the paper and lift it – I used blue tac to attach the paper to the hand. Another issue was sourcing a heavy looking weight, so I made one using magnets designed for keeping metal armatures feet in place.
Another problem was the armature couldn’t hold the weight in the air - I realized I needed to tighten the joints of the figure. I also accidently brushed against the camera causing it to zoom in during filming the ‘pull’ sequence - I will need to be aware of my movements when working in the booths.
My final animation was a short story. I wrote a brief synopsis of mysterious lidded box, armature removes lid and slug creature emerges. One problem I encountered was when I exported the frames to video, the lower half was cropped, and my hand was in shot despite me having deleted these. I asked Owen to help me identify the problem. Seems I had edited the wrong cache of photos, so I edited the correct set and removed the hands
Sequences complete, I edited the work into a showreel on Premiere Pro - adding titles and music then uploaded to Vimeo.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the work I produced in Animation 101/102 so far. I’ve gained experience in stop-motion and learned the basics of Dragon Frame. I have problem solved practical issues. I am honing my skills in using the metal armature to breathe life into a character. I feel I’ve improved in my ability to animate these professional armatures and have come far in a short amount of time. I hope to have the opportunity to work with 3D stop-motion animation in future. I feel I have great potential in that field. I want to learn/improve my skills in Maya 3D. Apart from difficulties with Maya I’m still happy and satisfied with my work in 101/102. I have learned many valuable techniques in a range of mediums and software.

Put On Your Raincoats #24 | Midnight Heat (Watkins, 1983)
Tumblr media
This review contains spoilers.
Roger Watkins' Midnight Heat opens with slow motion shots of Times Square in the winter. It's a drab, dismal sight, and the ominous music that plays over the footage sets the tone. A caption flashes onscreen. "Sex can become a weapon." It's a quote credited to Henry Miller. (Upon further Googling I suspect this might not be a real quote, but the movie had me fooled at the time.) We see Jamie Gillis, alone in a high rise apartment, looking contemplatively out the window. He receives a call about a job, which he accepts, albeit a little indignantly. There's a POV shot going down a corridor, bathed in atmospheric blue lighting, with occasional glimpses of a man in an office reading a newspaper. Gillis comes in through the door and pulls out of a gun. Freeze frame. The title flashes on the screen while a thunderous gunshot noise erupts on the soundtrack.
With these opening moments, Watkins introduces a level of violence and accompanying dread that hangs over the rest of the movie, wherein Gillis hides out in a seedy hotel, meditating over what led him to this moment. You see, Gillis is a hitman, and in his own image a pretty good one, but not one immune to making bad decisions. One of these bad decisions would be sleeping with the boss's wife. (In true mafia fashion, when the boss catches him, he plants a kiss firmly on his lips. "I'll be seeing you in the streets") Another bad decision would be porking the boss' daughter (with whom he was casually discussing T.S. Eliot) and then making a mid-coital phone call to let the boss know. But the OG of these bad decisions was what got him into his line of work in the first place, taking an ill-advised job after blowing a sizable amount of money at the track. You see, like the name of a certain Charles Bronson film series, Gillis both wishes death upon others (as part of his work) and has a death wish himself. "The more dangerous something is, the more we forget about everything else. Danger motivates people. Otherwise why bother."
But Gillis doesn't do this thinking all by himself. He has the company of a hooker, who perhaps is moved by Gillis, having encountered this form of professional violence in her personal life. And while there are genre expectations to be met, Gillis seems more interested in her company over anything else, perhaps to fill a void in his own life. They eventually reach a meeting of minds, even if it isn't terribly comforting to either one.
"You're afraid of dying aren't you."
"I haven't learned very much but I have learned on thing. Only someone in constant terror of of annihilation can experience life as it was meant to be experienced."
"And you're one of those men."
"Yes."
Watkins directed this the same year as Corruption, with which this shares Gillis in the starring role, cinematography by Larry Revene and a similarly fatalistic tone. I enjoyed the other movie quite a bit more, but I must admit at least some of that is due to the technical disparity of the versions I watched for each one. That one was on a snazzy Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray, this one was on a blurry video-sourced transfer. In the other film, Revene does very precise things with underlighting and other techniques to create an oppressively chilly tone. Here I could grasp the impact of certain lighting and framing choices, but the low quality video image had a flattening effect on any precise flourishes present in the work. (One unintentional boon however was the way the dilapidated grey walls of the hotel room looked almost like fog thanks to the blurry transfer.) Even worse was the fact that the audio was just a bit out of sync, meaning that Watkins' more aggressive editing choices (switching between classical and porno-funk as he cuts between the street scenes and the sex) were thoroughly undermined.
Putting aside viewing conditions, I do think the other film is structured more engagingly so that the dread builds, although this one's inertia seems intentional, with the final moments driving home the purgatorial nature of the story. I think the other movie also bounces Gillis more effectively off of other characters (in particular, an almost demonic Bobby Astyr), whereas he only really has one person to play off here (Champagne, who I believe only has a few other credits, and whose IMDb page helpfully notes is not the same person as Phil Prince regular Cheri Champagne), although I did find her to be an intriguing screen presence. As for the sex scenes, Watkins had been frustrated that the ones in his earlier movies, which he delegated to producer Dave Darby, were too enjoyable for the raincoat brigade (despite making some very good films in the genre, he apparently didn't like it very much). I believe at this point (and certainly in Corruption), he'd taken over directing these scenes himself, although the effect is less consistent overall compared to the other movie. The flashback scenes are what I'd call conventionally enjoyable, despite the attempts to subvert them with cross-cutting, but the ones in the present are more potent, framed to have an isolating effect on the performers so that the sense of fatalism overrides any erotic impact. As for the climactic image, with Gillis' face contorted mid-thrust while the frame is flooded with red lighting, I appreciate the intention more than the end result. Anyway, I liked this less than the other films I've seen from Watkins and would like to see it in a better copy eventually, but it still has plenty of the qualities I enjoy about Watkins' work and is worth checking out if the idea of a hardcore mood piece tickles your fancy. And at less than seventy minutes, you can't lose.

Best Films of 2019 (So Far)
It’s that time of year again! As most of my followers probably know, I’m an avid cinema-goer beyond Star Wars. I also quite enjoy making lists, so what’s better than a combo of the two? Below, I run down my top 10 films of 2019 so far - please note that this list is based on UK cinema release dates, so some of these films were 2018 releases elsewhere.
What are your favourites so far from this year? Let me know in replies/asks!
Honourable mentions: Toy Story 4, Long Shot, Aladdin, Alita: Battle Angel & The Kid Who Would Be King
1. The Favourite, dir. Yorgos Lanthimos
Tumblr media
This completely wowed me - it features a trio of magnificently compelling female characters (played by Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone) operating at the court of Queen Anne (Colman is Anne, Weisz and Stone are courtiers), and is focused solely on the shifting sands of the power dynamics between them. The script is savage without sacrificing poignancy, witty without ceasing to be genuine. And while I’ve seen some react to this film as a comedy (and it certainly has laughs, most of which are closely tied to shock), for me it was very clearly a drama about the inscrutable and complicated relationships that exist between women. Specifically, it is about how those relationships run the gamut from sincere affinity to ruthless manipulation. This is an amazing movie, and it also has the best use of an Elton John song in 2019 (sorry, Rocketman!).
2. Midsommar, dir. Ari Aster
Tumblr media
I went into this film with reservations, since I wasn’t a huge fan of Hereditary (by the same director), which I found to have extraordinary moments but iffy execution overall. This movie, however, wowed me, and I am still uncertain as to whether this or The Favourite is my top film of 2019 so far (fortunately, this gives me a good excuse to watch Midsommar three or four times in cinemas). While marketed as a freaky cult horror film, the director has described it as a fairy tale, which is the level on which is spoke to me. Midsommar follows Dani (an incredible Florence Pugh), a young woman who has suffered a terrible loss, as she travels with her boyfriend and his friends to a pagan festival in the Swedish countryside. Dani is painfully isolated, and her grief is hers to shoulder alone since her boyfriend is un-receptive and distinctly unprepared to help her. Over the course of the film, destruction and creation are conflated in ways that are frequently beautiful and horrific at the same time - this film spoke to me on a profound level, and the way it ended gave me a sense of incredible catharsis. This won’t be for everyone, for I found it to be a deeply special film and I can’t recommend it enough.
3. One Cut of the Dead, dir.  Shinichirou Ueda
Tumblr media
While I went into The Favourite with high expectations given the talent involved, I went into this with no expectations whatsoever - and what a treat it was! One Cut of the Dead is easily one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in ears, taking what initially seems like a trite concept (a crew is filming a zombie movie at a desolate location ... only to discover that the zombies are real!) and twisting it in a truly ingenious way. The comedy is often of the broad variety, but it is consistently delightful and always manages to avoid becoming crass - the movie even has some really sweet family dynamics at the centre of it, which gives it some real emotional heft. The success of this film is heavily reliant on a major twist that occurs part-way through, so the best advice I can give you is to stay as far away from spoilers for this one as possible - go in blind, and you will be amply rewarded for your faith.
4. The Farewell, dir. Lulu Wang
Tumblr media
I saw this following a wave of festival hype, so while I was excited I was also a bit apprehensive (since I have been burned by the aforementioned festival hype before). Thankfully, my doubts were blown away as this turned out to be just as wonderful as the early reviews had suggested. It’s a personal story about a young Asian-American woman (Awkwafina) struggling to reconcile her heritage with her current situation and values - specifically, she is tested when her grandmother is diagnosed with terminal cancer and the wider family make the decision to hide the truth from her. The Farewell does a fantastic job of generating empathy for all the different perspectives and positions in play, but it’s truly anchored by Awkwafina’s amazingly nuanced and tender performance - basically, anyone who’s ever loved a grandparent should leave this feeling incredibly moved and inspired. The themes of The Farewell are both specific to the Asian-American experience and general to anyone who has struggled with maintaining bonds over a vast distance, whether physical or cultural.
5. Booksmart, dir. Olivia Wilde
Tumblr media
God, how I wish I’d had this movie as a teenager! While Booksmart has a cliched premise - two high-achieving teens decide to have one wild night before graduation - it tells the story in an incredibly charming and impressively creative way (I won’t spoil it, but let me just say this - that scene with the Barbies!). As someone who was an awkward nerd with no discernible social life in high school (as you Americans call it), I found this portrayal of that peculiar limbo period very sensitive and thoughtful - it doesn’t mock or shame its heroines for being studious, and it allows them to have limits and step back from situations that make them uncomfortable. It also serves as a beautifully honest portrait of a friendship, depicting the qualities that bring people together in friendship together in the first place, as well as the forces that can break people apart. This is a very accomplished debut from Wilde, and it makes me very excited to see where she goes next as a director.
6. A Private War, dir. Matthew Heineman
Tumblr media
This was a very suspenseful and tightly focused film about an extraordinary woman, and the film soars on the strength of Rosamund Pike’s incredible performance as Marie Colvin. She provides piercing insights into the psyche of a person so driven to pursue truth and enact change that she loses all concern for her own wellbeing - it’s simultaneously a portrait of heroism and obsession, and it’s impressive for how it handles the ambiguity inherent in Colvin’s choices. She’s exceptionally brave, but the film is unflinching in depicting the costs of her bravery. It left me feeling inspired to learn more about Colvin’s life and work, and I still need to watch the documentary Under the Wire to get more insight into the real story behind the film.
7. Fighting With My Family, dir. Stephen Merchant
Tumblr media
This is the year of Florence Pugh - she killed it in Midsommar, and she is just as fantastic here. If anything, Fighting With My Family and Midsommar make great complements as they serve as fantastic showcases for Pugh’s range as an actor. While her character in Midsommar is fragile and vulnerable, Fighting With My Family is a platform for her strength and comedic skill. As Paige, Pugh is instantly likable and compelling - I don’t give a damn about any form of wrestling, but this film (and Pugh specifically) did a fantastic job of drawing me in and making me root for Paige’s struggle to prove herself as a legitimate force in wrestling. This is a real underdog story, and Pugh did a wonderful job as the Cinderella of the WWE.
8. Apollo 11, dir. Todd Douglas Miller
Tumblr media
My dad has always been crazy about the space program, but I hadn’t picked up the bug myself. That changed after I watched this extraordinary documentary, which brought the Apollo 11 mission to vivid life. The footage that’s used for this documentary is extraordinarily crisp, and some moments are vividly powerful - the crew getting into their spacesuits, the swirl of fire surrounding the moment of takeoff, and the journey of the spacecraft towards the moon. It left me feeling moved and touched by human potential, especially when you remember that this all happened 50 years ago when the available technologies were so fragile and primitive. I also loved how the footage was allowed to speak for itself, with no voiceover or exposition - it’s a must-see for anyone who’s ever looked up at the stars and wondered about reaching them.
9. High Life, dir. Claire Denis
Tumblr media
This movie is second to only Midsommar in terms of how weird it is. I saw this in a Hungarian cinema while on holiday, which made for a disorientating experience in itself. While the meaning of the film is quite elusive and I’m sure that many people will find viewing it a uniquely frustrating experience, I appreciated how it created a hothouse environment that brought out some of the ugliest aspects of humanity. Robert Pattinson was great as what comes closest to amounting to our protagonist, though he is as inscrutable and inaccessible as the film itself. I can’t quite pin down why I liked this one so much, but I know I did and it made me want to seek out more of Claire Denis’ work.
10. Free Solo, dir. Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi
Tumblr media
It’s tragic that most people will only watch this documentary on a TV screen (or, so much worse, a laptop!). I was fortunate enough to see it in its full IMAX glory, and it’s rare to see any film - let alone a documentary - take such full advantage of the format. The woozy spectacle of this film is the real star, though the subject - mountain climber Alex Honnold - is also fascinating with his unnerving detachment from the magnitude of what he is setting out on. It is clearly a necessary detachment for him to be able to achieve what he achieves, but I appreciated how the filmmakers questioned it and explored its impact on his girlfriend. This is a compelling documentary, and is worth watching even if you’re not usually a fan of the genre.

Live reactions to S3E5 of Misfits below because... I dunno, slapping it all under a cut is probably less annoying lol. :’>
- Is it bad that the opening scene made me think of Jamie? Jamie and Seth look like that could’ve been buds. Like a biker gang or something.
- I find it really interesting that Kelly, even with a guy like Seth, is still putting up walls and giving him the aloof act. I appreciate the consistency (rare in Misfits lol) but aw man, it is kinda sad, isn’t it? I get it, though. Poor thing. I think Seth/Kelly is a little left field but I do hope she has a happy ending with this one. Kelly deserves happiness and so does Seth.
- I keep telling myself not to compare Rudy and Nathan but omg... the little awkward lean against the support beam... Nathan does that when Simon catches him and Alisha spying on him. And then the two condom thing... I know I’m being ridiculous here and they aren’t the same character at all, but I’m gonna have to make a parallels gif set. I just know it. I can feel it. It has to happen. It was awkward at first because I missed Nathan, but the more I see of Rudy, the more I like him. He’s grown on me.
- I feel like production value went way up during this season.
- EXCUSE ME??? WHO??? TELLS THEIR GIRLFRIEND, WHO IS IN A COMA, THAT YOU’RE LEAVING THEM? YO, DUDE, I KNOW IT’S HARD TO SEE HER LIKE THAT BUT C’MON. You!! Don’t know!!!!!!! That she can’t hear you!!!!!! Maybe she can!! YOU CAN’T! oml
- I like how Kelly’s first response to seeing a patient in trouble is to calmly and slowly walk into the room to ask them if they’re okay (when they clearly can’t speak because even if they weren’t in a coma, they do have a tube down their throat) instead of immediately finding a nurse or pressing the alert button.
- Wait this hurts.
- LOL I... really love how Simon just deals with Rudy’s weird stories. That’s cute.
- O h? Is that grafitti some Bad Wolf-esque foreshadowing?  👀
- Wow. Lauren Socha is such a good actress??? What the heck. I’m gonna have to watch her in something else. I need to know if she has range.
- ...This isn’t mean, I love Kelly’s shape, but there’s no way Kelly can fit in Jen’s clothes.
- Not a fan of this weird tension that happens occasionally between Curtis and Simon. I think it’s IC for Simon to be a little jealous, I like that he still has his insecurities, but it’s a little annoying when it’s directed toward Curtis. I dunno. I guess it’s fair given that he’s the ex, but I don’t like it.
- Kelly looks great in a leather jacket.
- OOOH gosh. Sometimes, man... sometimes Simon gives this look and does this thing with his body language that’s just SO scary.
- ...As much as I dislike Curtis’ power, I think Alisha’s has to be my least favorite of the new powers. I wish Simon would use his foresight more, too.
- Something about Simon watching Freaky Friday is really funny to me.
- How many times are these idiots gonna have to sneak out bodies. They’re professionals at this point.
- Bahahaha Shaun is so nonchalant. Random coma patient in the communtiy centre? Just another day.  I love him.
- WAIT NO SHAUN NO WAIT NO!!!
- NO?????????????????????????????????? NO?? NO!
- I’m not gonna think about the legal issues with what’s-his-face pulling the plug instead of a nurse. Or like... how they’re gonna explain that Jen’s body is there at the community centre. Or how the gang is gonna get away with security footage of them stealing a body from the hospital (which there would have to be, there’s no way they didn’t get caught on camera). I can’t go full clown. This is Misfits. 🤡
- Also I totally thought they were going to grab an animal or something off the street and then give it to the boyfriend or parents or something to take care of so Jen could live on at least for a while longer as something else than die. I don’t know why I thought that. It just felt like it’d be on brand. Don’t @ me LOL. (I’m glad I was wrong; I think it’s a much nobler end for Jen to own up to what she did and have her goodbye.)
- That is totally some Bad Wolf-esque forshadowing. And clearly slapped on in post!
Final thoughts:
Not a bad episode. I liked it well enough. It was entertaining and this one got a few laughs (for some reason Seth saying “Hi” and Rudy going feral at him got me). I don’t have too much to say about it, really, it’s a pretty standard episode. So far I think Peter’s episode is still my favorite just for the more superhero-y hijinks, but this ep had some really nice protective Simon moments and I really enjoyed Seth. The music was pretty good, but the Misfits soundtrack is always killer.
I hate that my only big note is a complaint, but... I’m finding it really hard to connect with the characters this season, even the OGs. I get bursts of it, primarily with Simon and Rudy, but overall something just feels wrong. No one except maybe Curtis feels OOC and yet? Something about the characters is off. It feels like I’m looking at an alternate universe where everything is the same except for some itty bitty detail and I can’t place what it is. And before anyone says it, no it’s not because Nathan isn’t there lol. He was the heart of the series for me, but I don’t think his absence is what feels wrong. It’s definitely something about the writing or within the remaining characters themselves.
I? Almost want to say that it’s an issue of the gang not feeling like a family anymore? They don’t feel as close. I know Misfits has always primarily been about hijinks and outrageous plots, but I almost wanna say that S1 and S2 had more focus on character relationships than S3 so far? We get a little more into the nitty gritty of Alisha’s relationships with Simon, Rudy, and Curtis (even though her “problem” with Curtis in E2 made no sense) but besides that... it just doesn’t feel like we’re getting the meat that we did in S1 and 2. Granted, that is two seasons versus one.
Oh yeah. And RIP Shaun. I knew he was gonna die but I didn’t expect it so soon. That sucks. I think that his death would have been sadder if the show hadn’t exposed his grosser aspects, like how he creeps on girls and... he’s just kind of a skeevy perv. Which, I know most of the male characters in this show are perverts to some degree, but it works better for everyone else because they have some redeeming qualities that make them more endearing and their faults more palatable. Shaun doesn’t quite have the endearment factor to pad out how uncomfortable he was in E2 and E4 (making him into a villain for E4 was a bad move too). I think if he had shown just a hint of really caring about the gang, even privately, then maybe I’d be sadder. Oh well. He’s still the best probation worker. I’ll miss him.
Anyway, anyway. Enough complaining. One last good thing: Rudy continues to grow on me. I am so intrigued by how he handles his split (how his splits handle each other?). I feel like I need to come up with a better term. But that’ll do for now. I really, really hope that Overman doesn’t just sweep all those issues under the rug. It seems like he did that with Rudy and Alisha’s relationship (which is a bummer!) and I think it’d be so cool for Rudy to either find peace with that inner conflict or at least be able to better cope with Rudy One and Rudy Too so they’re not always squabbling. Love Rudy, though. Him and Nathan would’ve butted heads to be the funny one, I think, but good friends after a while. Oh, the terror those two could have caused...

My Very First Vlog (assessment)!
For our first Intro to Creative Tech assessment we were tasked with creating a 4-minute vlog explaining why we chose the Bachelor of Creative Technologies, what we expect from it and what we plan to do with it in the future. After weeks of consistently adding ideas to a rolling list of points to include, I spent ages trying to tidy up all those ideas into a coherent script that I used for my final video.
For the video itself, I decided to go with a simple vlog style format consisting of me talking to the camera. Initially, I did this to try and avoid having to do too much editing and use my presenting skills to my advantage. In the end, I did a bit of a mix as I still incorporated a bunch of additional clips and photos for added visual content to help illustrate the points being made.
In the end, I created a video that I’m proud of, but wish it could’ve been longer.
I definitely had a range of mixed feelings throughout this project. During the initial creative process of just putting down ideas of things to include, I was really enjoying it. I only felt a sense of stress when it came time to put all those ideas together and realized that it was way too long for four minutes. It was challenging having to pick things to remove as I had become so attached to all the different points over time. It took me way longer than expected to get a script together that was short enough- this was the most stressful part of the process by far. Especially since 40% of the grade depends on this video- I was so scared of cutting points that would potentially cost me marks. I often just wound up reading and re-reading the script a dozen times to only take out a couple of words each time. It was only when it came crunch time as the deadline approached that I really started slashing away at the word count to get it to a more reasonable length. Again, this was kind of disappointing to me, and I feel as though the result may feel a bit shallow as a result, but that’s the nature of adhering to a time constraint.
The filming part I actually loved though, as this mixes well with my background in performance and acting so that was probably the most fun.
The second most fun part - that I wasn’t expecting- was the editing process. I actually quite enjoyed lining up all the additional clips to align with the dialogue and cutting down the footage whenever I paused to make it sound smoother. The tinkering and playing around part of the process engaged me more than expected.
Thus, even though the content may have been a bit shallow compared to what it used to be, I was really happy with the final product as the filming and editing went well. It actually inspired me to potentially make more of this kind of content for my own personal projects as there were a lot of things that I would’ve love to have included but couldn’t due to the time constraints.
Some areas that I could’ve improved on are as follows;
The initial script should’ve been shorter from the start. As mentioned earlier, I constantly added ideas to it since the assignment was announced, so when it came time to finally sit down and finalize the script it was way too long, and I consequently spent most of my time cutting it down. This resulted in more breadth than depth than I would’ve liked, and next time I’d focus on fewer points and unpack them more. The issue is that I had become attached to all the ideas I’d written, so I couldn’t remove enough. And I’m still somewhat annoyed by the points ideas that I did have to remove. Going forward I’ll try and start with a select few points and expand on them, rather than having kids and shortening them all.
Another area that could’ve been improved on for the script is the style of writing used. I found that when I wrote the initial script, I just wound up writing an essay, which sounded very robotic and unauthentic when being read out to the camera. I found that writing the script while saying each line out loud did wonders in creating something that sounded more natural. Next time I’ll use this approach from the start, as this is something I found out towards the end and would’ve saved me a bunch of time had I implemented it from the very beginning.
Editing- I’m quite happy with the editing I did but would’ve loved to add a backing track for the dialogue -as it can sound quite eerie talking against pure silence - and maybe a cool song at the beginning and end. I also would’ve played around with text in the videos for headers to add more structure. In the end, I decided to leave these elements as we aren’t being graded on the editing, but I’d still like to learn those skills for my own personal gain.
Even with the limited editing I did on this video, I spent ages tweaking all the additional clips to align exactly with the points being made through the audio. And I honestly loved it, even if it was time-consuming. I have to say that this project probably stressed me out the most but it was also the most enjoyable
So it’s something I can look into for future video-based projects, whether for this course or just personal enjoyment.
The equipment used was also very basic and I would love to have been able to use a proper microphone and a decent camera. For this, the only equipment used was a phone stand, with my phone’s selfie camera being the main camera. Again, we’re not being graded on this, but as a personal improvement for future video based projects, I’d love to have proper crisp audio and video. Of the two of these I’d say audio is the most important, so I might invest in a reasonably priced microphone down the road. The lighting also could've been improved, and I’ve seen decently priced ring lights that would enhance the lighting dramatically, so maybe one of those too. The iPhone camera quality is good enough that it doesn’t justify spending large sums of money on a high quality videocamera, so this would definitely be last on the priority list.
All in all, this project was an interesting introduction to the world of vlogging that - while stressing me out a tad - has inspired me to potentially do something more like this further on in the degree or in my personal life. Without the same level of restriction, or having a better understanding of what to do script-wise, it would be a lot less stressful and time-consuming so I’d be able to spend more time having fun with the filming and editing, which were easily the best parts of this project.
TLDR; I had fun with this one but wish it could’ve been longer. Irony
Here’s the final product! - https://youtu.be/5YruZeokUGI

noya and Tsukishima Send 💘 for a static shock kiss.
mismatched. not even polar opposites or anything like that just . . . the ugly clash of green & orange. it’s not the worst thing out there, but it doesn’t make any logical sense. but sometimes — it is just inevitable that they should wind up in conjunction with another.
that being said, if tsukishima & nishinoya were the colors of green & orange ? tsukishima would be green. nishinoya would be orange because everything about him is so blaring & unapologetic that . . . tsukishima never had a chance. not when they wound up running into each other three year’s after tsukishima had graduated high school.
tsukishima had been going for a run around tsutsujigaoka park & apparently lapsed in turning an observational eye towards anyone around him. really, if tsukishima had recognized the back of nishinoya’s head while he were jogging, he may have tried to duck & hide. not that hiding would work out too well for him.
but he hadn’t recognized nishinoya’s head. he didn’t think anything of the jogger he passed by until someone was jogging next to him for . . . a really long time. tsukishima tried altering his speed to shake them . . . & failed. so he slowed & stopped. his unwanted company did the same. tsukishima prepared himself to leer over the other until they got the point, but he then  realizes what he had missed.
nishinoya is there. before him. not at all taller & with a wide-stretched smie. nishinoya folds his hands on his hips & demands:    ‘  finally, you string bean. you must have some good quality headphones if you weren’t able to hear my talking to you, huh ?   ‘
Tumblr media
tsukishima all but groans. before he can say anything  nishinoya is darting around him to grab his phone from the band he has around his arm. nishinoya is still talking.   ‘   all high ’n mighty, too — we heard from yamaguchi that your phone number changed, but you never answered our texts when we tried to reach out to you on the new number! what’s all that about ?   ‘
good question, nishinoya, tsukishima thinks absently. he continues to stare at the other in bemusement as he considers his schedule, his lack of desire to be a part of too much digital communication, & the fact that he’s usually tired when he sees a text come up on his phone with a number that he doesn’t recognize. he tries to protest nishonoya’s phone theft, but . . . something tells him that protesting wouldn’t get him very far. nishinoya is still dancing around him & then scuttling back to prance from a distance.  ‘   passcode! now!   ‘
this is his moment of triumph. tsukishima starts to smirk because he can refuse to give the passcode, but . . . nishinoya doesn’t have the patience for this. when nishinoya starts jogging away with tsukishima’s phone in hand . . . tsukishima has to chase after him. nishinoya is hollering over his shoulder threats to run faster & steal his phone until tsukishima gives him the passcode & . . . tsukishima has to believe him. so he slows down. waits. & crosses his arms over his chest until nishinoya trots back towards him & hears his passcode . . . so that he can add himself to tsukishima’s contacts.
nishinoya is all smiles again, & tsukishima thinks he might lose his mind — especially when his phone starts blowing up that night with texts —
[ noyaaaaa!! : text ] : it was such!! a cool coincidink that we                ran into each other lol
               [ noyaaaaa!! : text ] : LOL get it??? cos we were ru n n  i ng !!!
only twenty seconds passed before the phone rang. bewilderment shifts to shock shifts to distaste, & tsukishima ends the call before it starts. nishinoya texts him a frowning face. tsukishima ignores it.
nishinoya calls him again the next night. & the next. & the next. & the next. it’s a week before tsukishima actually picks up & asks whether nishinoya needs something. nishinoya only hollers ‘  SUP  ‘  in his ear loud enough for tsukishima to cringe & hang up. nishinoya calls back the next night. tsukishima ignores it. again, nishinoya texts him a frowny face.
it’s another week before tsukishima picks up the phone when nishinoya calls.   ‘  — do you really have nothing better to do every night than  —  ‘  tsukishima begins to demand into the phone. nishinoya cuts him off with excitement. tsukishima can only be grateful that he’s talking less loudly than he was the last time.   ‘   you ! i saw footage of your game today. so kick. ass ! you kicked ass. you & me ? we’re facing off because. my kick is going to make you the ass of kick ass.    ‘
tsukishima nearly chokes.   ‘  uh . . .   no,   ‘  he begins.  somehow nishinoya wags his finger through the phone line.     ‘   nope ! you refuse, & i’ll start waking you up in the morning with phone calls too. just you wait. so ! i’ll see you saturday at seven.   ‘  nishinoya hangs up. tsukishima stares at his phone & sighs. he pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose & wishes for retirement. but still . . . & he doesn’t know why . . . he shows up to the address nishinoya texted him with his gear. nishinoya is giving him a demonic smile, & something rises up inside of tsukishima telling him that he has to beat nishinoya just for being a nuisance. so he gives it his all all.
it becomes a routine that they practice with one another. tsukishima hates to admit that he starts looking forward to it. nishinoya calls him less but texts him more, & tsukishima replies more often than he did. that’s something, right ?
something until nishinoya texts him with the succinct demand :   ‘   addresssss.    ‘   tsukishima is tired enough to indulge him in this without thinking of the consequences. that being said, he has no one to blame but himself when there’s a too-loud knock on the door to his apartment.  nishinoya  is quick to startswhisper/shouting through the door. as soon as tsukishima opens the door for nishinoya . . . he tumbles in,  drunk, & falls asleep without a blanket on tsukishima’s couch.
nishinoya isn’t always drunk when he starts coming over — but he does come over. a lot.  he bursts his way into tsukishima’s life with hollers & a movie he had picked up at the store because  ‘   it had a cool cover.  ‘   to be consistent himself, tsukishima never fails to chastise nishinoya for being disruptive - but nishinoya is shameless.
at least nishinoya isn’t the worst guest. so far, nishinoya consistently wakes up earlier than tsukishima & concocts a jumbled/scrambled/edible breakfast with ingredients that he never had permission to use. still, when tsukishima finds salvation in the cup of black coffee nishinoya hands him,  tsukishima finds he can’t complain.
this too becomes routine. it’s comfortable & annoying, & nishinoya doesn’t even knock when he arrives at tsukishima’s apartment anymore. tsukishima considers the audacity of this when he receives a texted   ‘   ;  )   ‘  & shuffles to open the door. he doesn’t have any time to chastise nishinoya for his rudeness before nishinoya’s arm reaches to curve around his neck to haul him down. their lips smack together, & it might be the weirdest kiss that tsukishima’s ever had.
it’s still enough to make him blink & freeze & feel everything shift into perspective. so with this . . . new understanding & new confusion harbored in his mind, tsukishima imagines it might be a little funny if he were to close the door in nishinoya’s face. he settles to just mutter,   ‘    . . . idiot,   ‘   as he pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
apparently that’s all the cue that nishinoya needed, though, because he shoves his way into the apartment with his hands on his hips with indignation.   ‘   me ?  you ! you make a hobby of sticking your head up your ass. i figured you would turn a blind eye to stuff like that  -   ‘
tsukishima shrugs & drops himself onto his couch. nishinoya wastes no time to huff, to grab a blanket draped over a nearby chair, & to throw himself over tsukishima’s lap. the latter rolls his eyes, pinches nishinoya’s cheek. when nishinoya purses his lips expectantly. in response, tsukishima shifts his hand to tug the other’s hair as he comments  :    ‘  no.    ‘
he smirks. he can’t help it.  nishinoya rolls his eyes & props himself up so that he might hover before tsukishima, hover before his lips.    ‘   later, then ?   ‘   nishinoya prompts.  tsukishima feels his eyes drop to the other’s lips, & he could hit himself for that. so he caves, tries to regain some victory in this situation ( in some distorted way ) by kissing nishinoya — sudden, quick, honest.   it’s the perfect predecessor to tsukishima repeating,   ‘   no.   ‘
even if tsukishima claims victory with this, nishinoya smiles again with that too-wide smile. tsukishima fights off the onset of his own smile. this might be the beginning of another new routine.

That ease of usage is also found in the tablet-based user interface installed at the home because it utilizes the same app. The tablet just occurs to be the brains of the operation and immediately shows the video doorbell any time it rings. If you're the sort who likes voice assistants, Vivint's system is suitable with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant devices.
Users can not unlock doors or deactivate the system using voice commands (because, security), and only thermostat and light adjustments can be made without instructing Alexa to "ask Vivint" to do this or that. Operation with Google Assistant-enabled speakers or TVs is more extensive. You never need to tell Google Assistant "ask Vivint" prior to issuing a command, and the commands themselves can be made utilizing more natural language than with Alexa.
Among the things that most impresses me about Vivint's take on smart home security is its high level of modification. In truth, there are so many choices (however not too many) we do not have space to enter into them all. Having Vivint on call when I require them and having them be so professional and skilled is valuable.
I've got tree limbs within view of a couple of cams, and when they sway in the breeze, they tend to set off my doorbell cam motion sensing unit, which then prompts a notice. One a windy day, I received up of 50 "A visitor was identified" notifications through Vivint's app. By informing the system to ignore movement from the area in which the movement was identified, I got rid of the repeating errant notices.
I have actually also found automating door locks and system arming is very important for my household. Ends up, we're quite great at examining locks prior to heading to bed, however are awful at keeping in mind to arm the security system. By having the system auto-arm at 11 p.m. and door locks auto-lock each day at 9 a.m., we get rid of the danger associated with forgetting to do either.
What Vivint Can Do
Rich Shibley/Digital Trends Vivint charges a premium up-front rate, but with that comes premium equipment with gobs of important functions and exceptional service. That last piece is important. I consider myself a skilled DIY'er when it concerns tech, however I do not have time in my life for debugging outside cams or window sensing units.
For clever house security combination, Vivint is quickly my leading choice. For those who select Vivint's premium service, everything is covered against defect and failure. If superior service is decreased, Vivint will change or repair any faulty part, but after a 120-day duration, a service fee is charged for each home see.
As far as features, personalization, and voice automation goes, Vivint is leading the pack. There are less costly options, however there are none in terms of service and quality of product and user experience. ADT deals numerous tiers of home tracking services. If you're looking for a Do It Yourself house security experience, there are several on the market, consisting of Simplisafe, Nest, and Ring.
As improvements in video camera tech come along in the next couple of years, those who tend to suffer from upgrade-itus might discover themselves wishing to step up a few components in their system. Integration with Vivint Sky manages suggests you can lock and open doors with your mobile phone or SkyControl Panel, and Smart Visitor Detection helps determine when individuals are actually approaching so you do not get an alert for each passerby.
The sensing units are all discreet and wireless. While equipment can be acquired and set up individually, the bundles appear to offer the best performance, and create the most total security systems. Many packages, consisting of personalized alternatives, consist of the SkyControl Panel. The most robust package available, the Smart Complete bundle includes the SkyControl Panel, 1 smoke detector, 3 door and window sensing units, 1 movement detector, 1 yard sign, a 1- terabyte wireless cloud storage drive (for on-site storage of image and video), Vivint's 247 monitoring service, and your option of 3 Smart Home services.

Consumers who have home automation items connected to their system will be able to control these gadgets and set timers for them all on-the-go. If dining establishments just had one dish on the menu, individuals most likely wouldn't wish to go there. We all like choices. House owners shopping for a house security solution feel the very same method they desire options when it pertains to security devices and services.
Vivint has lots of personalized options they use so that clients can form an individualized home security option. They use a variety of add-on devices that make the system more cohesive. All seniors that are 70+ have 1 month after installation to cancel to get their cash back. Vivint's cancellation policy is not as flexible as other security business that provide a 30-day trial. The smart locks permit users to create custom-made user codes, get notifies any time the locks have actually been locked/unlocked, in addition to remotely lock/unlock doors through the app. Vivint doesn't have a great deal of information about the clever locks that they provide on their website but it looks like they offer a push button and touchscreen lock.
By acquiring a garage door controller you can also manage your garage door remotely. This comes in handy in case you ever forget to close the garage door. Vivint does not provide much info on their website about the garage control either so it would be best to call them for more details.
The system is likewise compatible with the Component thermostat and the Phillips Color smart light. These devices can be bought directly through Vivint as well. Far From Home Initial Review: What I Liked and What I Didn’t (Spoilers)
I saw Far From Home yesterday and jotted down some of my immediate responses, and then took some time to think on those points. I do intend to see the film again in the next few days and I may be adding to or amending this list.
Major spoilers below.
(CW: sexual harassment, victim blaming)
What I Liked:
That scene in the jet where Happy stitches Peter up was A+. Not just regarding the expert acting, but how the filmmakers decided to handle the scene. Peter’s fear, stress, and self doubt briefly shifts to anger, and he snaps at Happy for telling him to “relax.” He immediately apologizes, saying “i’m sorry, I shouldn't shout.” Happy in return responds by choosing his words more carefully. Happy then gives him a gentle and encouraging pep talk in which he recognizes Peter’s emotions, encourages him, and explains that he doesn’t need to live up to the legacy of Iron Man and that he only needs to do his best. He remains on task and pragmatic, but never rushes Peter or forces him to do anything he’s not comfortable doing, offering support all the while.
Peter is allowed to cry at several points throughout the film in front of other male characters, including Nick Fury and Happy. He is never judged for this and he is never made to feel like his emotions are unreasonable or invalid. Continuing this from the previous films even as Peter gets older and takes on more responsibilities further normalizes male emotion in action films.
Peter consistently voices his concerns and asks for help instead of overwhelming himself and internalizing.
Peter was noticeably shorter than MJ in most of their scenes together, including where they kiss or hold hands. Peter’s height is never made into the butt of a joke, which I had feared might happen. No one even mentions it. Marvel did have Tom wear shoes that made him a little taller than he actually is, but I do appreciate that they didn’t drastically increase his height like they always did to RDJ.
JK Simmons returning as J Jonah Jameson was a great surprise, and it gives me hope that we may yet see Peter as a photographer
Peter walking out from behind that car carrying a sign and a light as a reference to Steve wielding the shield and mjolnir.
Peter calling his dick his “webshooter”
MJ stepping in and providing some real help several times throughout the movie
The movies on the flight to Venice “Heart of Iron: The Tony Stark Story,” “Chasing Hydra” etc
The terribly edited movie maker tribute set to “I Will Always Love You” with “in memoriam” in comic sans was the funniest possible way to open the film
Bucky being included in the Thank You Avengers collage in the Midtown Tech news video
Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell were definitely dating and i’m here for it.
Seeing Peter fight without a suit was cool. I’ve always thought there was a kind of disconnect when characters like spiderman or black panther fight with their masks on, like they feel separate from the actors. But seeing Peter fight in his civilian clothing made it feel more real to me that this kid really has these powers and can do all these amazing flips and feats of strength. It also let us see more of his creativity and quick thinking.
I’m impressed that they were able to make Mysterio’s mo-cap suit look cool instead of completely ridiculous like they do in real life.
Peter closing his eyes and fighting the drones with his spidey-sense to avoid the illusions was so badass.
The violence felt real. Every time Peter got hit, the audience felt it. Several times he was unable to stand up, he limped and winced and cried. It felt like the consequences of such heavy action were realistically considered when Peter couldn’t just pop back up and shake it off.
"If you were better, maybe Tony would still be alive” “You’re just a scared little kid in a sweatsuit”
“You got me?” “I got you.”
“lets get a drink” “i’m- i’m not 21.”
Peter going to a parent figure wearing an oversized shirt and crying while confessing his self-doubts was an oddly specific parallel that i didn’t expect to get again but i’m certainly not complaining
What I Didn’t:
The “rest stop hookup” scene was deeply inappropriate. Peter, a child, is commanded to undress in front of an adult female agent. He initially resists but is intimidated into compliance when she repeats the order. One of Peter’s classmates, Brad, walks into the room and Peter is literally caught with his pants around his ankles with an adult stranger. Brad makes the assumption that Peter is hooking up with her, and takes a photo for evidence with the intention of showing it to MJ in order to ruin Peter’s “chance” with her. Peter is blamed for a situation in which he is the victim, and the audience is meant to find this entire scene funny. Instead of what could have been a really cool scene in which this agent presents the new suit she’s made for Peter, we are given this very uncomfortable scene of sexual harassment played for laughs.
Peter and Brad competing for MJ’s affection and actively sabotaging each other is unnecessary.
The use of old footage from previous films was lazy, especially when Marvel could have easily recreated those scenes from the perspectives of the new antagonists. I’ve always found this distracting, especially when the quality noticeably drops between two clips, though this is more of a personal peeve than anything I see as a legitimate problem.
The list of characters who become villains because they feel personally or indirectly slighted by Tony and Howard is getting too big. Honestly I think it’s lazy to keep using that as backstory/motivation for new villains after over 10 years, especially now that Tony isn’t even alive.
The multiverse being made up by Beck was disappointing.
The monsters being the Elementals instead of Sandman or Hydroman was also disappointing.
I wish that the spidey-sense was represented by some creative audio or visual cue, like the goosebumps in iw or the ringing noise in spiderverse
There were several lgbt characters/actors on the class trip but they weren’t very visible. You really don’t notice them at all unless you were aware of who was cast beforehand and were watching closely for them. I’m not asking for Peter to swing through new york with a rainbow flag screaming “trans rights” but I would have liked to have seen a queer couple holding hands or a student with a trans patch on their backpack or something. I had been hoping for Peter to actually interact with one of them, to refer to them by name. Obviously having such a diverse cast with queer characters being played by actual queer actors is a huge step up from Joe Russo’s “grieving man” but like that shouldn’t be where the bar is at this point.
Tbh the headstone and zombie iron man were cliche, and i think it would have been much more impactful if Mysterio had made an allusion of Tony himself instead.
Why would Dr Strange not be available to fight massive elemental monsters from another dimension bent on consuming the earth like dude make yourself available??
I wish the new suit included Karen so that we could see how she and Peter’s interactions have changed now that he is expertly familiar with the functions of the suits. Additionally, the spider-drone would have been cool to see again.
The illusion to Uncle Ben with the “BFP” initials on Peter’s suitcase was great but I do wish we could get some actual information about him. We don’t need to see his death or the “with great power comes great responsibility” speech- we’ve already seen that enough times- but a little clarification on what officially happened to him in the mcu would be interesting.
Honestly I thought it was too convenient that May, Happy, and all of Peter’s closest friends also dusted. I had wanted to see how interactions between Peter and May or friends such as Ned would be tested emotionally due to the five-year gap.
The BARF tech being invented by Beck and stolen by Tony detracts from it being used in Civil War to establish Tony’s feelings about Howard and Maria’s murders. If it isn’t Tony’s invention, that takes the heart out of it.
I had really hoped that the glasses were going to end up revealing Tony as an AI, or at least some kind of message from him, and i thought was weird that Tony would give Peter access to a system that allows him to order drone strikes on his classmates.
Also...  so the drone strike on peter’s bus was faked by Mysterio’s team because they needed to get the EDITH glasses from Peter? Because the EDITH glasses give them access to the satellite that deploys the drones? But they already have the same drones? and use one them to fake the bus attack? so why do they need EDITH? Maybe i missed something but that makes no sense to me.
