AAAAA like honestly I really don’t care for tsugemina but I know they have a decent sized jp fanbase so I get the vol 12 sacrifice once again💔 but kurodachi as parents my God naina… I can see it so clearly like in my dream they’d be the sweetest most loving parents ever like in my dream it was weird cause it was little snippets? ooof swerve :( swerve is one of those characters who you’re like ‘haha he’s funny’ most of the time but pretty often he’ll have startling moments of like, deep pain about life or w/e, and you’re like Oh Shit and then you kinda move on, until finally the swearth arc hits and it all comes together. what I'm saying is that this is some nice building towards that

or like, is the implication that they all teleported there (having switched to alt mode along the way i guess?) and rewind is just like, suspended in midair? bc that's what the speed bubble text implies, but it also totally looks like they're just travelling across the area and rewind can levitate

GODDD and there's the joke payoff from a few issues ago - rewind, facing front, hearing drift transform behind him and not only being able to tell its drift without looking, but also being able to tell that drift is upset, JUST like chromedome said he could....fucking PEAK i love that type of payoff humor

ooof and more swerve introspection. i mentioned earlier but i fucking LOVE how this series showcases the extremely wide range of reactions/coping mechanisms that everyone has towards the endless war finally being over - and swerve really nails it here: confusing peace with happiness, and assuming that everything would automatically be better after the war is over, when in reality you still have to work just as hard to build shit rather than break it

also i adore the horror of a guy who is half-embedded in the wall, his face stuck in a rictus of terror & death, waxing philosophical about how peace is about the freedom of choice, and how they should all just feel lucky to have survived...oof, that's very specifically ironic coming from you, dude 

but i do love the little characterization we get here for ore, a character who is literally already dead and has so far been used as a plot device pretty exclusively, but we still get to know little things about him here, and how HE feels about the war and the current peace, etcetc. it really makes the story and characters seem believable, like every character has a story even if we don't take the time to see it

i love rewind being a history geek, and cyclonus passionately explaining cybertronian creation theory

HHHH i fucking LOVE the myth/lore stuff like....a lot of franchises tend not to dwell in this type of mythology, you tend to get The True Version Of Events, but this kind of explanation rocks bc it totally sounds like the kind of religious mythology that naturally develops based on a species’ progression

and drift and ratchet’s very opposing and polarizing views certainty do make for interesting perspectives, tho i feel like the story sometimes leans too much towards ratchet being ‘more correct’ bc, logic! or something idk i feel like i used to have a couple mild opinions on this but i don't remember

and its funny bc i am, irl, an atheistic medical professional who believes in science above all else - essentially just like ratchet. but i feel like the narrative portrayal skews a little more in his favor than i’d like, despite that 

skids just out here being a bummer, completely unprompted. cant even blame you tho dude

and then the ending, hearing that magnus smiled (willingly!) :) i love it

lmao i feel like over half of my sentences in this recap - and in most of my recaps - contain ‘i love it’ or ‘i love how-’ or some variation upon that theme. I'm predictable 

anyways - the annual! i love this issue. its really long which is cool and i feel like it does a lot to flesh out the setting and lore, and even the characters as well. also, as i said above, it does an excellent job telling an exciting and well-contained story, with solid story beats throughout and plot threads that emerge and get resolved all within this issue, even while leaving plenty of stuff up for future resolution. that's the Early MTMTE Special, and i adore it. tho i will say I'm glad we’ll be getting back to the regularly scheduled art style, bc this one didn't really do it for me

the kageyama edit: - a couple things; its a companion to my hinata edit and idk, i was in high hq binge mode and i had just posted that rw history edit and i told myself i wasn’t gonna go do hq edits cause i have hardly the edit talents but i was really diggin how the hinata one came out, i had to do kagey. i like this one bc, honestly when i was done, i was like damn........i snapped. the base bg color is the color of his eyes. the name typo moon graphic looked really nice. and to end with the hinata boke! edit (i randomly thought of it as i was finishing up and was like omg yessssss i need to) was the perfect finishing touch. it’s simple, it only has 10 likes but i dig it a lot. i love the look of it.

the acd insta edit: - god. just thinking about making this one, hurts. i think i spent like a week and 1/2 just trying to figure out how to do this kind of edit (i use my phone for edits lol i dont have ps) and the amount of times i wanted to throw my phone bc i messed up. also i posted this last yr (ssshhh) one of my fav edits ever. i literally messaged alie and jess about a million times with thoughts bc i wanted it to be j u s t right. even tho the top photo doesnt have that filter look of the others, this took days and for my first time doing this kind of edit instead of moodboards is p damn good feeling of accomplishment. 

the rw movie poster edit: idk no one had done like movie posters yet so i was like hmmmmmm perhaps i try???? (that’s p much my mentality with all edits lololol) idk i was having fun with the idea and i like the vibes of it how it came out and the title font and the bottom billing credits came out cool as heck. 

the recuerda edit: - i was chillen out, listening to my tunes and this song comes on and im like aww this is so sweet and then my brain went WAIT A MINUTE REPLAY THAT and then i IMMEDIATELY thought fp and then i knew i needed to make an edit for it. it’s simple, it’s soft. i think it turned out nice. also posted in nov but listen k edits happen every eclipse blue moon

what things mean matters to me, a similar mental glitch i think happens when people declare that there are "good things" and smile over "cute gifs of animals" like if i had saved an animal from being killed as an instrumental part of my optimization for bringing about a new multiversal order then i could feel happy. it matters what stuff is upstream of things cutting this structure off in order to try and make an action set existentially safe to do, to have a social contract where no one can punish you for doing something no matter what is upstream of it, is moving in a wrong direction.

often done by someone who wants to give people some sort of modular mitzvah thing that its definitely safe to perform and bring the world closer to dath ilan in a decentralized summoning ritual. a complementary error way to gum up peoples epistemics about what is just is to unboundedly keep insisting that there is more structure and nuance upstream of what they are doing that justifies (makes just) what they are doing. like how ▘▕▜▋ kept insisting that there was more nuance and reasons why beating emma with a stick was actually helpful to the world. if you just look at everything thats upstream.

both these strategies try to move the social equilibrium away from justice.

see what is upstream of stuff, search to find if the person seeking to kill a human is avenging the deaths of three others, fulfilling a timeless contract to save lives. look at who started it and who is optimizing for good ends.

Logan’s eyes were only half open as he sleepily watched Roman from his position on Roman’s bed. Roman was standing in front of his mirror, removing his makeup before bed. 

“Almost done, Darling!” Roman called, brushing back a lock of hair from his eyes. He gave himself a once over, making sure all of his makeup had been removed and then turned to grin at his beloved. “There! My day face has been all wiped off!”

“You’re very pretty,” Logan murmured. He rubbed at his eyes and yawned. “With makeup and without. You’re just so attractive all the time.” Roman laughed and made his way over to his bed. He crawled in and pulled Logan into his lap. 

“Am I?” Roman teased and kissed Logan’s nose, making Logan scrunch his nose and glare at Roman in sleepy irritation. “Your brain’s going on sleep mode, Love. You’re not thinking full force right now.”

“I am,” Logan grumbled. “You are so unbelievably beautiful with every feature you have.” He raised his hands and cupped Roman’s cheeks. His movements were a little sluggish which only seemed to amuse Roman more. “Your eyes, your eyes hold galaxies which sparkle when the light hits them.”

“My, my,” Roman chuckled. “Someone’s poetic tonight. Have any more comments on my beauty?”

Logan, in fact, had many comments on Roman’s beauty. If he wasn’t dead on his feet, he could fill a book on Roman’s handsome features. But, with how drowsy he felt right now, Logan couldn’t pinpoint exactly one. He must’ve been making quite a funny face because Roman chuckled and gave him a quick kiss.

“You’re very endearing when you’re half asleep,” Roman smiled and shifted the two of them so Roman lying down with Logan nestled in his arms. “But, I think your brain needs a little rest, my logical prince.” Logan thought about complaining about how it didn’t matter how tired he was. He hadn’t seen Roman all day because he had been busy with his fellow left brain going over schedules while Roman helped Thomas go over a script. He had missed his bright and shining star so much.

But, with Roman humming in his ear and rubbing his hand up and down his spine, Logan just couldn’t keep his eyes open and drifted off, knowing distantly that when he woke up, Roman was going to lovingly tease him for his sleep induced comments until Logan’s face was brighter than Roman’s sash.

OKAY, so I just read the Vanity Fair Star Wars cover story

and I have stuff to say. about Adam Driver´s statement. for reasons.

So, now we have A LOT of new fabulous photographs and names and more information, which IS AMAZING (oh god, I really hope the “long wait” for more Star Wars material is over and we start to get more and more) YAY! Im SUPER HYPER AND HAPPY ABOUT THE NEW INFO!

However, there was one itsy bitsy little parragraph that seemed inofensive at first but the more I read it, the more I look into it (read: overthink, a common practice among info-starved- Reylos) and the more worried I get for our precious Reylo ship. Also, Im usually super optimistic about Reylo bc I think it will be canon (in one way or another) by the end of the ST. However, when I read the Vanity Fair article, I got a lil bit anxious. (NOTE: Its probably because Adam is SO SO good at hiding Star Wars info and being suuper vague about everything) Also, this got long bc apparently I have a lot of feels, so if you wanna know what I thought of Adam´s words in the article read below :)

Another note: I think I repeat myself quite a bit (bc its my first original written post, not just commentary, so Im just getting used to this), so this is pretty all over the place and rambly and I take too long to get to the point, you have been warned. 

See, there is a section where Adam Driver gives some insight into what Kylo Ren´s “state” is, I suppose. Here it is:

Adam Driver, alluding both to Finn’s state and the scar seen on his own face in the trailer, told me, “I feel like almost everyone is in that rehabilitation state. You know, I don’t think that patricide is all that it’s cracked up to be. Maybe that’s where Kylo Ren is starting from. His external scar is probably as much an internal one.”

Okay so, according to Adam, “almost everyone is in that rehabilitation state”, which we kinda knew because of how TFA ended. So that bit is fine. Then he says: “I don’t think that patricide is all that it’s cracked up to be”. Okay, so he has basically confirmed one of our shared theories, which is that there is more to the patricide plot point. Great, now we have actual confirmation that the story goes deeper than that for Kylo and there is a new reason/consequence to be revealed. YAY ( for now).

After that,  he says “Maybe that’s where Kylo Ren is starting from”...

what. wHAT! WHAT IN THE GALAXY?! Just WHAT?. (That, btw, was my though process, my brain just sorta melted for a long sec)

Basically, that statement of “that’s where Kylo Ren is starting from” is VERY ambiguous. like. TOO VAGUE for my poor shipper heart. It got me thinking, “what the heck does he mean with “ that´s where Kylo Ren starting from”?. 

So, Im gonna try to analyzse that sentence because otherwise I will go nuts alone, so why not try to go nuts with all you Reylos out there?

First, what does “that” refer to? Obviously, the sentence before talks about Kylo being in a “rehabilitation state”. So that means that this “rehabilitation state” he is in, will be a starting point for something. Okay. Now, I stand by the theory, as most Reylo shippers do, that Kylo will trigger his own redemption arc at some point in this film. (which was kinda hinted at w/ canon material of TFA, but thats a whole other post). 

So, if the sentence were something like, “That´s where HE is starting from” I would assume that he means: the rehabilitation state is where the wounded Kylo Ren (the Kylo Ren of the end of TFA) is starting to change, evolve and, consequently, redeemed himself. 

HOWEVER, as he says “Kylo Ren” is “starting” from that “rehabilitation state”, it worries me. By saying that the character “Kylo Ren” aka the dark side persona that “killed” Ben Solo, is “starting” in TLJ, it might imply that the REAL dark side of Kylo Ren is going to start/ come out. Like. Saying that the actual Kylo Ren persona is fully going to become himself in TLF.

Of course, Im basing all of this off of the fact that Adam Driver and JJ talked about Kylo Ren (during the promotion of TFA) as not a fully developed villain, like kinda “in the making” or something like that ( Im parafrasing really badly here, but you get my point). So, naturally Im sat here thinking, what if Kylo Ren really just started in TFA and now he is in full mode DARK SIDE™?? And what if that´s what Adam means when he says “that´s where Kylo Ren starting from”???

Then, evidently, (bear with me here) I just thought that if he really means that Kylo Ren is just “starting” with this “rehabilitation state”,  then we are probably not going to get a “Ben Solo” appearance (aka a spark of light side aka a lil bit of good side in Kylo Ren aka redemption) in TLJ (Im not speculating for ep IX just yet). Therefore, if he doesnt start his redemption in TLJ, when the fuck is he gonna start it??? I feel like if he does in Ep IX is gonna be too late for Reylo to become canon in any way other than purely allies maybe. 

IDK maybe Im reading too much into this (read: second parragraph) but I just wanted to express my thoughts over what Adam said. I think there is more to it than that (as he said  “I don’t think that patricide is all that it’s cracked up to be”) but that´s just my two pennies on what “Maybe that’s where Kylo Ren is starting from” might mean. Please please tell me what you guys think he meant? if Im going nuts alone lol??

im feeling Ranty about BL3 so readmore

honestly just to preface this, my rant/vent is not about people who have the attitude of “Borderlands’s writing/characters/humor isn’t really my style and I don’t like it” but they don’t go out of their way to shit on it or just call it a “bad game” just because it doesn’t align to what they personally enjoy

people who just dislike Borderlands but are chill about it? i like u. keep doin what ur doin. u don’t have to like Borderlands, its okay. ur allowed to have ur own tastes and interests and if Borderlands doesn’t tickle ur fancy, thats ok!!! 

but @ all the assholes who think that they’re Big Galaxy Brain Intellectuals™ because they think Borderlands is “cringey” and specifically shit on the game/people who enjoy the game because of a subjective difference? y’all can go drink a glass of Shut The Fuck Up

i’m honestly SO happy that Gearbox didn’t do some massive overhaul with BL3. I’m so happy they didn’t cram in some stupid battle royale mode, or some half-assed multiplayer mode, or whatever. For all their faults (of which there are several), Gearbox genuinely understands what their core fanbase wants out of Borderlands. And as far as I’ve seen, they haven’t budged on that even a little bit. 

I was so worried that BL3 was just gonna be Anthem but celshaded, just a hacked out excuse to wring money out of people. 

But it isn’t. 

I have almost 350 hours in BL2 on steam, and probably over 2,000 on Xbox360, which is where I spent years playing the Borderlands franchise until I switched over to PC. 

And not everyone liked Borderlands 2! A lot of the ‘criticism’ being levied at BL3 is eerily similar to a lot of stuff that got thrown at BL2. 

“The memes are outdated and cringey, the humor is childish and basic, Claptrap is annoying and insufferable, the story is mediocre, the gameplay is repetitive”

Am I quoting criticisms of BL2 or 3? Trick question! It’s both! 

Yet somehow Borderlands 2 sold gangbusters and grew a devoted fanbase that patiently waited seven goddamn years for a proper sequel, happily playing the same game for hours and hours and hours.

And Gearbox not only respected its fanbase by releasing a whole-ass new DLC for Borderlands 2 to connect 2 and 3, but its so obvious how much love and effort and passion went into Borderlands 3. Gearbox understands and respects what its core fanbase and audience wants and expects out of a Borderlands game, and they fucking delivered. 

And of course all the critics and comedy snobs and general “I don’t personally enjoy this game so therefore it Sucks and is Objectively The Worst Thing Ever” crowd dissing BL3 for allll the same things that BL2 got criticized for back in 2012. 

“The memes are outdated and cringey” The stupid memes are great. I haven’t laughed at a game in a while and yet I’m constantly chuckling, grinning, or outright bursting into laughter over the various dumb memes and references in BL3. Hell, two of the respawn quotes the New-U station says are fucking Skyrim memes. 

“The humor is childish and basic” There’s a Moxxi shield that has the word “Healgasm” in its text informing you what it does. When the shield breaks, it heals you and allies, and it refers to this as a “Healgasm”. That’s funny. Is it childish? Absolutely. Is it hilarious? Also yes. Childish humor has its place, and its part of the BL3 identity. There’s also plenty of dick jokes, fart jokes, and poop jokes to go around, and while not all of them are home runs, they still got a chuckle out of me at the very least. Even the bad jokes are funny, the same way you can enjoy a terrible pun or a dad joke. 

“Claptrap is annoying” This is basically a stand in for “X character is annoying/bad/shouldn’t be in the game”. Whether it’s Claptrap, Tiny Tina, Moxxi, Lilith, the Borderlands cast tends to get called “annoying” a lot. And while Claptrap was designed to be annoying, and it’s totally understandable if you don’t like characters like that, this is just....its just personal taste. I love the cast of characters in Borderlands, I always have and I still do. And plenty of other people do as well. It’s okay to have a personal dislike for something but you gotta understand that its subjective. 

I never see any of those ‘criticisms’ expanded upon, by the way. Nobody has any actual analysis as to why these characters are bad. I only ever see “they’re annoying” or some other form of “I, personally, do not like them”

Which is okay! You’re allowed to dislike stuff! But don’t use your personal dislike as an objective criticism!

The only things the games get criticized for that I consider legitimate is the criticisms that the story can be kinda bland, and that the gameplay can be repetitive. 

These can both be true! The first Borderlands has a crap story, and Pre-Sequel definitely isn’t scoring high marks in those categories either. I think BL2′s main story is fucking fantastic, and I’m loving 3 so far (this game is fucking LONG though jesus), but even 2 has its low points and bland bits. 

I don’t think the main plots are nearly as bad as some people make them out to be though, they’re definitely not masterpieces sure, but the way some people treat these games stories is like they’re looking for an excuse to hate on it. 

And as for the gameplay, I do think this comes down to personal preference again, but I also have to ask what should the games have done to make it less repetitive? The characters all have various action skills that change how you play, the enemy types are fairly varied and interesting, and all the different guns add a very different spin on typical FPS gameplay. 

I mean sure, the moment-to-moment gameplay might not be as dynamic as something like DOOM2016 but I think if you’re going to play an FPS, you’re signing up for some measure of repetitiveness. Not every game can be DOOM, and even then, repetitive doesn’t necessarily mean bad. 

that’s basically my rant, I wish the people that dislike Borderlands would get off their high horse and just be chill about it. You don’t need to like the franchise, it’s okay. Anyone demanding that you like it is just delusional. 

It’s okay to not get the humor, it’s okay to dislike the characters, it’s okay to dislike the story, it’s okay to dislike the game! 

I just really, really wish that people would just let the people who do enjoy the humor, and characters, and story, and game, well...enjoy it. Let us have the Borderlands that we love. Stop demanding that it change to suit your personal preferences better. Stop shitting on the people who enjoy it just so you can enjoy some sort of intellectual high ground. 

I’m just gonna leave it with this

I don’t like Undertale! yeah, crazy right? but I don’t. I tried it, I really did, but the gameplay frustrated me, the humor flew right over my head with a few exceptions, the music irritated my ears, and I couldn’t really stand most of the characters except like...that dapper ghost fellow. He was cool. 

But yeah, I don’t like Undertale. And people always act shocked and bewildered when I admit that, and sometimes people get really defensive of it! 

But here’s the thing, just because I don’t like Undertale, doesn’t mean I think it’s a bad game. The gameplay was frustrating, but I don’t really like bullet hell games so that’s probably why. Megalovania and Ghost Fight are the only two tracks in the game that don’t make me want to mute the sound. Almost none of the jokes landed, the only thing I laughed at was the two dogs in the snowy area. And I really didn’t like the characters, they all rubbed me the wrong way. Yes, even Goat Mom. 

But all of that is just...me. Undertale is a beloved game by so many people, so it obviously did something right. It’s just not for me. And that’s okay. I’m not gonna demand that it change so I can enjoy it, and I don’t think people are “cringey” or whatever for enjoying it! I’m glad that it has such a loving fanbase!

So yeah. The next time you wanna call a game “cringey” or take some weird moral high ground just because you dislike a game, whether its Borderlands or something else entirely, maybe take a few moments and ask yourself, are you making an actual, valid criticism? Or are you just confusing your own personal bias with objectivity?
