I always have these misgivings that throughout their career especially in their early years, jk has been touted as someone especial, the gifted one and (perhaps that is true, perhaps not) that may have affected their psyche to believe it until now. BH enforced that narrative and the fandom accepted it as truth, (plus you have the members themselves constantly praising him) also him being the maknae really tugged at the heartstrings of the fandom hence he is always given the leeway even if he makes mistakes. To everyone, whatever he puts out is acceptable and palatable for them and has to be hailed like it is a gift even if it is mediocre. To be fair, JK produces and writes really good songs. Still with you and Magic Shop were some of the songs that he wrote that i love till this day. So i miss those days when his creative juices were really flowing. I wonder if the pressure of being expected as the Golden one affected his mentality. 

In regards to Hybe/ BSH, what you want to do doesn’t matter. It his wants that takes precedence above anyone. If you want something, you have to negotiate your way according to his rules. I felt that is what had happened during Namjoon’s RPWP roll out. He got some tools that he didn’t with Indigo. We can only speculate what he had to negotiate with in order to get the promotion he had that time. It’s just too bad that the fandom did him dirty like they did with his first album. By extension, same with Hobi. 

Hybe does not support the members equally contrary to what they say. Lip service is one of their mastery. Those that deny it is purposefully being blind. I said it before, BTS, BH and ARMY grew together. So is their ego and superiority complex (BH and ARMY). The members try to be as genuine and grounded as they could given their status but it cannot be said about their company and fandom. Hence you see the issues with them both, fragmented from within and trying to salvage what they could to save face. 

Regardless,  i am looking forward to their compete return. Hobi will be back in a few weeks. Jin is doing his own thing which is really great. But what i’m most curious about is Jimin. Like how his time in the military affects him. Are we to see some changes or not? Plus the most i want to see is that, how he is going to navigate his solo career because he said before that he will do what he wants and will say what he couldn’t after his service is over.

What happened with JK's songwriting skills? I must admit I wonder if he didn't have some serious help with those songs, or if someone else wrote them entirely? If Jimin's contributions to songs went uncredited, it's equally possible JK was given more credit than he deserved. I can't figure that kid out. How did he go from writing meaningful songs to drinking, farting, folding his underwear, and falling asleep while millions watched? Is there another side to him we are unaware of?

I hope RM gets the last laugh. I may not love his singing, but I do appreciate his creativity. The videos he made for RPWP were really cool. I'd shell out money to see his documentary.

What's in store for Hobi post military? Is anyone watching Jin's show? I haven't watched any of it yet, but I'm glad he's doing something he enjoys. It gives me some hope for the others when they return.

I'm trying not to read too much into Jimin's silence since entering the military, but between that and his cryptic statements before he left, I'm really wondering what he has planned post MS. How will military life change him, if at all? I'm still praying for a solo contract with a different label.

Jade probably smells like fresh air, like REALLY fresh air. She smells like cold water in the best way possible. Or actually maybe like wet dog, I’m not sure anymore actually

And rose looks like she’d smell like a library or candle with just a hint of alcohol. Her clothes probably smell like a page of a book if that makes sense

wow, very specific. i think dave smells like a house (so, virtually nothing.) i like to imagine dave grooms himself when he's in the presence of people cause he cares about his image. so, no, i wouldn't say he smells like BO unless he's been sweating. i'd go as far as saying dave smells like axe spray on deodorant. i used this terrible wasabi scented one a few years ago and it was horrendous and it reminded me of him. jade, to me, smells really strongly of something incredibly sweet. which is probably what she picked out for her shampoo. just because she's a physician doesn't mean she's not going to pick her shampoo out from the kids isle because it smells nicer. rose would also smell like a book, you're right. i take her as a gal that sprays some really fancy perfume on herself. just one spritz of some strong aromatic christian dior-esque shit. john also smells like his deodorant. i feel like as he'd get older he'd also use a spritz of cologne. but nothing too major. you'd have to lean into him to smell him. i think he'd just smell like his hair products and faintly of whatever his house smells like. you know how people tend to smell like their homes, whatever that may be. it varies from person to person i can't describe it to you. i smell like coconuts and cologne. because my shampoo is coconut scented and i am a guy who wears cologne. calvin klein's in2u for him if you are wondering. i'm about to run out though i've moved unto greener pastures... (spider-man citrus cologne.)

i think mint is a fine smell. but you'd only smell mint off of me if you stuck your nose into my mouth.

just ate chinese, i feel both full and guilty 👍 though i felt faint at one point earlier so at least im eating,, but still. the food was lush but i didn't get to enjoy it cos i was so worried about the cals since the foodsplace doesn't say em, then, the cals seemed low for takeaway so i added some oil to my tracker

anyway, no walk today as there was a storm, we'll do it tomorrow, and i visited my nan. familys so important for me so i'm glad i could make it. i watched a bit of lorax since that was on TV, apparently it's ≈11 years old now? yikes

still... no exercise is terrible ffs. glad i'll have the home to myself most daytime so i can do as much exercise as i need!

now i'm in bed chewing gum, i should exercise but my mind keeps telling me no because i just ate and the springs in my bed are both noisy and painful to my hands and back. when family's home i can only exercise on my bed. anyway, i don't think i'm gonna eat anymore today, i really shouldn't, so here's the log

although i didn't set any goals today, i did go way under my cals! (limit 650, capped at 715) i partly think it's bc i didn't have a strict number and rather just the thought to "keep it low", but skipping breakfast helped times ten for sure, i think i might do that every day this week holiday + then every other day each week - excluding exams, since i need the food then.

SO...? Pink Grapefruit body mist and Calvin Klein (ck) IN2U match so nicely, i found this out accidentally when using my (then) new favourite grapefruit spray with mum's perfume. i knew my juicy couture daily perfume didn't match the grapefruit spray so i'd be wasting the JC if i used it. so after a few days of stealing mum's i realised IN2U matched so nicely! i continued to use it and continued to notice it matching well, few days on i decide to search the scent profile, and it has grapefruit in it! thats why they paired well. so since, thats one of my go to combos.

also, if i ever want to smell pure edible, i use coconut body butter, vanilla oil on my blazer collar, either vanilla or coconut body mist, and a perfume with vanilla. makes me wanna bite into myself but also makes me soo sweaty legged if i apply too much butter, i need to use some sort of applicator i'm just lazy 😅 might just buy a coconut body milk instead and skip the hassle of the oily layer left with body butter

Never Let Go Thoughts

I finally listened to Jung Kook's Never Let Go via a reaction video. I sort of skipped through it, to be honest. I'm not here to write a review of the song, but to express some concerns.

As others have said, the song feels rushed and unfinished. Yes, it's repetitive and continues to be a little too derivative of Justin Bieber's work. Also, his English pronunciation isn't the greatest. Because the tempo is so fast, his diction suffers. Any non-native English speaker will have this problem given how fast the song is.

I think it's great that Jungkook is trying new genres. An artist really needs to push boundaries and take risks in order to grow and stay relevant in the industry. But in this case, I'm struggling to understand how such a simple song could have 8 writers and 4 producers. Teenagers across the globe are making better music in their bedrooms with free or cheap music production software.

This is going to sound crazy given how snarky I can be, but I genuinely feel bad for Jungkook. Seven and Golden didn't sit right with me, and neither does Never Let Go. It's increasingly clear that Big Hit/HYBE's goal is to make money off of JK without investing in his growth as an artist, even though we know he's a serious music lover with high standards. And while ARMY and JJKs will support Jungkook unconditionally - continuing to buy and stream his music - the general music consuming public will not. Right now he's not an industry joke because most people in the GP have no idea who he is, but if BSH and BH keep this up, JK will become completely irrelevant. The American music market is not the Korean music market. Copying established western singers over and over again is not going to end well, especially when the final product feels significantly sub-par to the original.

Now for the scary part. Who is paying for all this promotion - especially for a song that should have either been released on music platforms but not for sale, or simply brought back to the recording studio for improvement/reworking? If JK's marketing costs are deducted from his song sales and streaming profits, not only will he not make money, but he might end up owing HYBE big bucks. I think it's very likely he's in a 360 contract with Big Hit given how much investment they've put into his solo work. Hopefully he was able to negotiate favorable terms so he doesn't end up in massive debt for his solo projects. Jon Bellion's recent bellyaching about the lack of radio play for SEVEN makes me think the group behind JK's album aren't getting the royalties they were expecting.

As I watch BTS' fandom devolve into divisiveness and rancor, as the members' solo singles fail to chart in the US, and public perception about HYBE continues to fall, I worry. I think Bang PD was counting on BTS' reputation and brand value lasting forever. He's a foolish man. I'm reminded of that video where he's sitting with TXT and telling them that their collab with the Jonas Brothers is going to be a huge hit and has a guaranteed spot on the Billboard Hot 100. We all know how that went. Does anyone have a link to that clip? Bang PD has a lot of bravado, but not a lot of western music industry sense.

in2u-4asec i worry about jk to be honest. because all the money used and continued being used to promote him as a soloist, it isn't free. he has to make money to pay all of that. i just really hope he hasn't signed any solo contract like that infamous 360 one. isaidnothankyou @in2u-4asec, I've thought the same thing. I know it isn't the thing to take away from his "agency," but was it really his idea to release an unfinished song (he was obviously embarrassed about it) in a blatant money grab? I've said this about Jimin, but it goes for everyone. Do they have anyone who is NOT affiliated with the company to advise them and protect their interests? A real manager, in other words, not just someone who drives them and takes care of the luggage?
