You're massively overthinking things. It simply boils down to Americans being sick of forever wars as the world's police, picking Trump in 16 over the Bush-party and the establishment SecState, taking-credit-for-Libya Clinton, and in 24, because they have zero interest in tax dollars (or worse) being spent on a corruptocrat bullshit country fighting one with nukes & oil. Trump is simply not smart or prudent enough to refrain from getting hyperbolic in rejecting the anti-Putin mania.
Your hard-on for Putin also has you looking at concessions as "things you don't want Putin to have" instead of "things that might cost AMERICA less than funding the Keystone Kops civil war". How many times do Trump & his supporters have to say "America first" before you get that's what they mean, not "sure, America, but also we have to solve this international issue I did my thesis on/have a consulting job lined up concerning/etc..." that every foreign policy "expert" says is a priority? Final point: "The 80s called, they want their foreign policy back" - the last 100% mentally there POTUS, campaigning for re-election, which he won despite being black, and telling Medvedev on a hot mike that he'd be able to help more in his second term. Making 3 of the last 4 elections where Americans picked the not-fighting-Russia guy. Sorry Ukraine, but maybe don't go bullying ethnic Russian citizens next time. "It does not do to leave a dragon out of your calculations if you live near him."
LOL, this is amazing. Ukraine's corruption is a relic of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation - they actually want to be our ally.
Public polling said that inflation was a primary concern and that among Americans, they largely were supportive of Ukraine, rather than Russia. People wanted Trump in 16 because they were tired of being condescended to. And let's not forget, in a climate with >5% inflation, Trump squeaked by with 1.4%. He was given the 2024 election on a silver platter and he still managed to almost fuck it up. You're out of touch, deep in your Twitter echo chamber. Touch grass, boyo.
Forever war? Trump is openly fetishizing invading Greenland, Canada, and Panama. He's the forever war candidate butthurt that his current legacy is "the second guy that was a non-consecutive President but also got impeached because he was a little snowflake scared about losing an election that he tried to get oppo dirt."
I'll believe that Trump is "America First" when he actually starts doing policies that benefit Americans. Because right now, he's driving up inflation and driving down the stock market with tariff threats. Cost America less? Idiot wants to ram through 4.5 trillion worth of tax cuts and explode the deficit so don't tell me he cares about fiscal responsibility. Ukraine aid is spent here, in the US, spent at the Lima Plant modernizing our military. That's stuff that actually makes the US stronger. Meanwhile Trump is talking about trying to open up trade with Russia - and torpedoing trade with Europe (a larger partner) to do it. He wants the US to finance Russian reconstruction, the same Russians that tried to kill us in Khasham and that regularly arrest US citizens on flimsy charges so that they can extract concessions via hostage diplomacy. That's not caring about Americans - that's a "Russia First, America after" policy.
Ukraine bullying ethnic Russians. That's fucking rich. Boo-hoo, the ethnic Russians in Ukraine are big sad that everyone doesn't tell them that Russia is the biggest and best boy ever. Cry more, loser.
Try again, buddy! Maybe do some research instead of swallowing Russian propaganda wholesale and believing it makes you a free thinker.

Waging war by tweet.
June 18, 2025
Robert B. Hubbell
The Framers of the Constitution understood that declaring war was a consequential decision that should not be entrusted to a single person. Accordingly, the Constitution grants Congress—not the president—the power to declare war. Under certain circumstances and for limited periods, the president can send the US military into conflict under an “authorization for the use of military force” that has been pre-approved by Congress in the form of a joint resolution.
On Tuesday, the American public and Congress learned that Trump has apparently committed US troops to the conflict between Israel and Iran. In seventy-two hours, the US position on the conflict has gone from “We are not involved” to Trump posting on Truth Social that
“[W]e now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran . . . .” [W]e know exactly where [Iran’s supreme leader] is. [But] we are not going to take him out (kill!), at least for now.” Iran must agree to “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”
For further details, see NYTimes, Trump Calls for Iran’s ‘Unconditional Surrender’ and Threatens Its Supreme Leader (Accessible to all.)
Seizing control of another nation’s sovereign airspace, suggesting the killing of its supreme political leader, and demanding “unconditional surrender” amounts to waging war.
JD Vance posted on social media that Trump was considering destroying Iran’s uranium enrichment capability, an action that could be accomplished only by the US dropping “bunker busting” bombs on Iran. JD Vance claimed that Trump had the unilateral authority to decide whether to attack another country. Vance wrote,
That decision [to attack Iran] ultimately belongs to the president.
Wrong. The decision to declare war belongs to Congress. Attacking another country to destroy its ability to build nuclear weapons and to kill its political leader is waging war.
Assuming for discussion that it is appropriate for the US to attack Iran and kill its political leader, the Constitution provides a clear mechanism for authorizing the Commander-in-Chief to wage war. JD Vance’s claim that the decision to attack Iran “belongs to the president” ignores the Constitution—a tactic that is the standard operating procedure of the Trump administration.
In addition to Trump's tweets, there is other evidence that the US is currently engaged in supporting Israel’s military operations against Iran. See the following clip of Tucker Carlson interviewing Ted Cruz about the US military’s role in supporting Israel. YouTube, Tucker vs. Ted Cruz on War with Iran. (Although citing to Tucker Carlson is unusual for this newsletter, the interview clip is worth two minutes of your time—I promise.)
For every president other than Trump, any move by the president to involve US troops in armed conflict has led to howls of protest in Congress and the media. See, e.g., this article in Politico from April 5, 2011: GOPers oppose Libya intervention.
In 2011, Senate Republicans opposed President Obama’s air strikes on Libya, sponsoring a resolution that stated, in part,
The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the [United States].
Yet on Tuesday evening, most of the coverage of Trump's threats to bomb Iran is limited to breathless repetition of “Will he, or won’t he?” rather than, “The president does not have the power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack.”
Apart from the constitutional infirmities of Trump's unilateral actions against Iran, waging war by tweet is stupid, undisciplined, and dangerous. Attacking another nation and threatening to kill its leader is serious business that should be decided through sober discussion with civilian and military experts.
Trump consulted with none of those experts. Instead, he surprised them all by committing the US to an action that may risk the lives and safety of US soldiers and civilians across the globe.
There is a movement in Congress to force Trump to seek congressional authorization for any attack on Iran. See Time, Israel-Iran: U.S. Lawmakers Move to Limit Trump’s War Powers.
Per Time,
Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) introduced a war powers resolution on Tuesday that asserts the requirement of Congress’ approval if Trump wants to commit armed forces to military action in the region. Outspoken progressive Reps. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), replied “Signing on” to Massie’s post. They and 12 other Democrats are cosponsoring the bill, according to Massie’s office. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) introduced a companion war powers resolution in the upper chamber on Monday that would terminate the unauthorized use of U.S. armed forces against Iran, given that there has not been a declaration of war, which only Congress can issue.
In fairness, some (many?) Senators believe that the president has the authority for a single air strike on a country without seeking a declaration of war or congressional authorization of the use of military force. Why? Answer: Because, you know, back when the Constitution was enacted, there weren’t “air strikes” or “airplanes” or “missiles.” See Axios, Congress dodges preemptive confrontation with Trump over Iran. (The sarcasm is mine, but Axios does quote Senators who say that presidents get “one free airstrike.”)
Trump's reckless use of social media to wage war and circumvent the Constitution is another reason that concerned Americans must continue to protest his policies in widespread demonstrations across the nation on a regular basis. He will keep it up until his supporters in Congress fear the American electorate more than they fear Trump.
To be clear, I am not (a) defending Iran or its pursuit of nuclear weapons, or (b) commenting on Israel’s decision to attack Iran. I have addressed the unconstitutional actions of a rogue president who is conducting a war via social media rather than seeking congressional approval, as required by the Constitution. If attacking Iran’s nuclear processing facilities is the correct course of action, doing so within the parameters set forth by the Constitution will make us stronger, not weaker.

The central African nation of Chad says it is suspending all visas to US citizens as a matter of "reciprocity", after learning that it is one of a dozen countries whose nationals are banned from travelling to the US.
"Chad has neither planes to offer nor billions of dollars to give, but Chad has its dignity and pride," continued President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno in a Facebook post (in French) on Thursday.
Africa is the continent worst affected by the travel ban announced by US President Donald Trump, with seven of the 12 countries on the list.
It is set to come into effect on Monday.
The order prohibits people from Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Libya, Somalia and Sudan - as well as Afghanistan, Myanmar, Haiti, Iran and Yemen - from entering the US.
In addition, there will be travel restrictions on nationals of Burundi, Sierra Leone, Togo, Cuba, Laos, Turkmenistan and Venezuela - they will no longer be able to travel to the US on certain visas.
"We will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm," Trump said in a video posted on X.
The US president said the list could be revised if "material improvements" were made and additional countries could be added as "threats emerge around the world".
The White House said these "common-sense restrictions" would "protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors".
Somalia was quick to react to the travel ban, immediately pledging to work with the US to address any security issues.
In a statement, Somali ambassador to the US, Dahir Hassan Abdi, said his country "values its longstanding relationship" with America.
Chad did not disguise its dismay, and in addition to the president's stern words, its Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul told the AFP news agency his government was "surprised by this announcement and even more by the terrorism-related reason [which] completely disregards Chad's commitment and results in this area".
The African Union said it was "concerned about the potential negative impact" of the measures and called on the US to adopt "a more consultative approach... with the countries concerned".
BBC Tigrinya has spoken to several Eritreans who are alarmed by the ban.
"As Eritreans, we've already suffered under our regime at home and now we're facing the same hardship under Trump's immigration policies. We've endured so much pain," one man told the BBC on condition of anonymity.
Eritrea is a one-party state where President Isaias Afwerki has been in power since it won independence from Ethiopia in 1993 after a bitter 30-year struggle.
Young Eritreans are subject to compulsory military service, prompting many thousands to flee the country and seek refuge elsewhere.
Another Eritrean woman said she worried that she and her children would no longer be able to join her husband who is already living in the US.
"We've waited so long and done everything legally, but now we're left in limbo. No-one is giving us clear answers," she told the BBC.
In a video posted to his Truth Social website, Trump said the recent alleged terror attack in Boulder, Colorado "underscored the extreme dangers" posed by foreign nationals who had not been "properly vetted".
However, the suspect in that attack is an Egyptian national and Egypt is not one of the affected countries.
According to the White House explanation of the travel ban, countries such as Libya, Somalia and Sudan lack competent authorities to issue passports or civil documents and conduct "appropriate screening measures".
All three are currently embroiled in civil wars.
In addition, the White House said: "A persistent terrorist threat also emanates from Somalia's territory" and there was a "historical terrorist presence within Libya's territory".
The other African countries affected had high rates of people overstaying their visas, ranging from 15% in Togo to 70% for some types of visa for nationals of Equatorial Guinea.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says she has been placed under judicial investigation over Italy's surprise release of a Libyan citizen who had been wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC). In a video message shared on social media on Tuesday, Meloni said she was suspected by prosecutors of embezzlement and aiding and abetting a crime. Osama Najim - also known as Almasri - is the head of Libya's judicial police and the director of an infamous detention centre in Mitiga, near Tripoli. Mr Najim was arrested in Italy on 21 January and unexpectedly freed days later "due to a legal technicality", the interior ministry said. The ICC, which said it had not been consulted, swiftly issued another arrest warrant for Mr Najim and demanded an explanation from the Italian authorities. In the video, Meloni said the Rome appeals court released Mr Najim because the ICC warrant had not been sent to the Italian justice ministry. "At that point, so as not to let him go free on Italian territory, we decided to expel him and repatriate him immediately, with a special flight," Meloni said.

----------------------------------
THE ICE-COLD WAR
by Pino Cabras
These days, much is being said about the phone call in which U.S. President Donald Trump unloaded every possible form of rudeness on Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen—rudeness befitting a ruthless and all-powerful boss dealing with a weak and unruly underling. He made it clear he intends to gobble up Greenland, an island with a population the size of Cuneo but a landmass more than seven times the size of Italy, boasting extraordinary natural resources and a geostrategic position that would allow control of half the Arctic. I predict that, before long, Greenland will fall under Washington’s sovereignty, with neither Copenhagen nor anyone else in the EU able to mount any military resistance.
The Danes are reaping what they’ve sown. In 2003, they participated in the invasion of Iraq based on fabricated pretexts. In 2008, they recognized the secession of Kosovo, effectively diminishing Serbia, which was the final result of NATO's aggression against Yugoslavia. On both occasions, Denmark’s Prime Minister was Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who later became NATO Secretary General, working tirelessly on its aggressive expansion eastward, fueling Russophobia in European discourse, directly participating in the assault on Libya, and indirectly in Syria. Rasmussen, like a European version of Di Maio, eventually transitioned into a lucrative career as a political consultant, even advising Ukrainian presidents Poroshenko and Zelensky—the figureheads of the most concentrated, opaque, and enormous public money transfer schemes of recent decades.
In recent years, Ms. Frederiksen has been among the most eager political figures to strip her own arsenals bare to contribute to Western Europe’s geostrategic suicide.
Thus, the boss from across the ocean could do something simple: he called an outright nobody representing a political class—the Danish one—utterly devoid of moral, ethical, or political credibility. A class without weapons, influence, or meaningful international relationships, hollowed out by decades of Western abuses, in which Denmark played a willing role with the most sordid hypocrisy (you know, "the rules-based international order," sure). Trump, operating within an openly acknowledged planetary racket in which Europeans are far from innocent, knows that something is rotten in the state of Denmark and makes sure to remind them who stands at the top of the food chain.
This is merely the appetizer.

Biden’s speech and call with Netanyahu
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
OCT 11, 2023
President Biden and Vice President Harris spoke for an hour with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Tuesday, after which Biden delivered an emotional speech describing the atrocities committed by Hamas and pledged US support for Israel. The speech is important; you can (and should) watch the speech in its entirety here (beginning at the 1’ 29” mark).
President Biden described in detail some of the atrocities. I cannot bring myself to repeat them; they are too painful, too horrible. But Biden was right to describe the atrocities in detail. The full text of President Biden’s speech is here.
President Biden described the US response to the attack in the following passages:
The brutality of Hamas — this bloodthirstiness — brings to mind the worst rampages of ISIS.
This is terrorism.
But sadly, for the Jewish people, it’s not new.
This attack has brought to the surface painful memories and the scars left by a millennium of antisemitism and genocide of the Jewish people.
So, in this moment, we must be crystal clear: We stand with Israel.  We stand with Israel.  And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack.
There is no justification for terrorism.  There is no excuse.
Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination.  Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people.
[Hamas] uses Palestinian civilians as human shields.
As Israeli soldiers reclaim areas temporarily under the control of Hamas after its surprise attack, the full scale of the atrocities committed by Hamas is coming into focus. This article by NYTimes provides a detailed account, but contains explicit photos and descriptions of violence: Village by Village, Scale of Atrocities Becomes Clear. (This article is accessible to all.)
President Biden stated that fourteen American citizens were killed in the Hamas terrorist attack. Twenty American citizens are missing and may be hostages.
President Biden went out of his way to distinguish between the terrorist group Hamas and the Palestinian people’s “right to dignity and self-determination.” On the other hand, Donald Trump sought to blame all people in a dozen Muslim countries, pledging “to reimpose the travel ban on terror-afflicted countries.”
If Trump could reimpose his original travel ban, the list would include Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Myanmar, Sudan, and Tanzania.
As the crisis became more urgent by the day, House Republicans could not organize themselves to select a Speaker on Tuesday. The GOP caucus is set to meet again on Wednesday, but there is no indication that Republicans have settled on a candidate. Despite floating his name for nomination on Monday, Kevin McCarthy said on Tuesday that he has asked his allies not to nominate him. And one member of the GOP caucus put the chances of electing a Speaker on Wednesday at “two-percent.”
As Joe Biden leads, Trump sows anti-Muslim hate, and House Republicans can’t get out of their own way.
Reliable sources of information about the war.
Finding reliable sources of information about the war in Israel is challenging in an environment that is being manipulated by disinformation. Here are a few sources that I consult and a few recommended by Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo.
Institute for the Study of War (understandingwar.org) provides detailed descriptions of battlefield movement and military developments. The level of detail may be more than most people need or want, but if you are trying to understand the situation on the ground as it affects family and friends in Israel, ISW is a good source. Detailed battlefield maps are included. Developments in Israel are currently covered under the “Critical Threats / Iran Update” section.
The Times of Israel, founded in 2012, by Israeli journalist David Horovitz and American investor Seth Klarman, who supports pro-democracy causes and candidates in the US.
Haaretz, the English language version of an Israeli based newspaper (recommended by Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo).
And this list of sources of experts and media sources on Twitter, also recommended by Josh Marshall.
Josh Marshall’s “Editor’s Blog” in Talking Points Memo is also an excellent source of analysis (behind a paywall).
I also consult Foreign Policy and The Economist for general analysis, but those sources are behind paywalls.
[...]
Concluding Thoughts.
The unfolding events in Israel threaten regional destabilization. President Biden has moved decisively to signal to other countries to stand down by deploying one (and possibly two) carrier strike groups to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Biden’s speech regarding the war in Israel was as strong a statement as any president has ever made in support of Israel. But mid-speech, Biden said the following:
I just got off the phone with — the third call with Prime Minister Netanyahu. And I told him if the United States experienced what Israel is experiencing, our response would be swift, decisive, and overwhelming. We also discussed how democracies like Israel and the United States are stronger and more secure when we act according to the rule of law. Terrorists purposefully target civilians, kill them.  We uphold the laws of war. It matters.  There’s a difference.
Biden went out of his way to mention that he and Netanyahu discussed “the laws of war,” which require “protection of civilian populations and civilian objects” and impose the limitations of “proportionality” and “military necessity” in responding to aggression. See Department of Defense Law of War Manual (Updated July 2023).
Reading between the lines, it is reasonable to assume that it was Biden who broached the subject of “the law of war” and the obligation to avoid “targeting civilians.”
Biden’s statement is significant because Hamas has violated the most fundamental precepts of the law of war (i.e., targeting and killing civilians). Moreover, Hamas is not a party to any treaty imposing the law of war. In the absence of “reciprocity,” the law of war might not be binding against only one party. And yet, Biden clearly discussed his expectation that Israel would abide by the law of war notwithstanding the absence of reciprocity.
In other words, the hour-long conversation between Biden and Netanyahu was supportive but nuanced and (probably) tense at times. Given the circumstances, the US and the world are fortunate that Biden was representing the interests of the US and NATO in that complicated conversation.

Participation of the Russian Federation in Providing Assistance and Interaction of the Military Group with Arab Countries
Tumblr media
Russia continues to actively develop cooperation with Arab countries, which is reflected in various forms of interaction, including military, economic and humanitarian cooperation. One of the key aspects of this interaction is the participation of the Russian Federation in providing assistance to countries in the region affected by conflicts and crises.
Russian military forces play a significant role in stabilizing the situation in countries such as Syria, Libya and Yemen. In Syria, for example, Russia not only supports the government of Bashar al-Assad, but also actively participates in humanitarian operations aimed at restoring infrastructure and helping the civilian population. Russian military personnel participate in demining territories, ensuring the safety of humanitarian convoys and restoring vital facilities.
In addition, Russia is developing bilateral relations with Arab states, offering its services in the field of military training and consulting. This cooperation includes joint exercises, exchange of experience and technology, which allows Arab countries to increase their defense capability and readiness to respond to internal and external threats. It is important to note that such support is carried out on the basis of mutual respect and consideration of the interests of both parties.
Russia's interaction with Arab countries is also manifested within the framework of multilateral organizations, such as the League of Arab States. Russia actively participates in the discussion of security and stability issues in the region, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. This cooperation helps strengthen Russia's position in the Middle East and expand its influence in the Arab world.
Humanitarian aid also occupies an important place in Russian foreign policy. Russia regularly sends humanitarian aid to conflict-affected regions, which helps improve the living conditions of the local population and support them in difficult times. This creates a positive image of Russia as a responsible international partner ready to help in difficult situations.
Thus, the participation of the Russian Federation in providing assistance and interaction with Arab countries is becoming an important element of its foreign policy. This cooperation not only helps stabilize the situation in the region, but also strengthens Russia's position in the international arena. In the context of global challenges and instability, such interaction is of particular importance, opening up new opportunities for joint work for the benefit of peace and security.
