I’m officially connected to the Iglunix project. If you need some help with installing it, have this guide:

0. Boot an iso that isn’t @voidlinux and install xbps-static. This is important because Iglunix doesn’t currently have an iso.

1. Make two partitions on an empty drive. If using (G)Parted/KDE Partition Manager, using they should be a fat32 partition named IGLU_BOOT and an ext4 partition named IGLU_ROOT, if not, use fdisk to create the two partitions and mkfs to format them.

2. Make directory as root:

3: Mount IGLU_ROOT to /mnt/new-root

4: make a boot directory: /mnt/new-root/boot

5: mount IGLU_BOOT to /mnt/new-root/boot

6: xbps-install -r/path/to/mountpoint -SyfRhttps://mirror.iglunix.org/ (all .xbps files listed in the repo)

7: download this script and run it as root: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/anoraktrend/Iglu-install/main/postinstall

8: reboot, removing the iso. when dhcpcd is done running, hit enter and edit /etc/inittab to make it more secure: replace the ask firsts with respawn and change /bin/sh to /bin/sgetty 0 tty(match the tty at the beginning of the stanza) and add at least two more lines like tty1 with numbers

9: reboot one more time, and login as root. Congrats you have working Iglunix install, git clone https://github.com/iglunix/iglunix to wherever you want to keep your source code directories and optionally clone https://github.com/anoraktrend/frankensrc. Build packages with iglupkg, install using iglu add out/*.xbps.

If you want to contribute to this project, try making pull requests to Frankensrc first (I am more likely to make merges than Ella is, just based on freetime) and Iglunix second, (all Frankensrc build.shs are dual licensed as Berkeley Artistic and bsd0 to be upsourced to Iglunix).

Here be dragons: The Iglunix project does not officially support installing Iglunix at the moment. It’s not complete and many parts of it are not currently working. I can help you if you have issues installing the system if you need it, send an ask if you have trouble! My recommendation is to use a Chimera Linux iso for step zero. (You will need to run doas apk add chimera-repo-contrib chimera-repo-user to be able to install gparted).

I use Iglunix, btw, because it's not GNU/ or even GNU+ Linux. it's an independent, designed-to-be-portable userspace that's currently focusing on using the most widely used kernel in existence, Linux. It's goal is to work in harmony using all free software… specifically excluding software made by GNU. This is not to say GNU+ or /Linux is bad, by any means, but more to say that it's incorrect to for one to assume that if someone says that they use Linux, that they mean they use gnu+ or / or whatever Linux. (We’re down to just gmake for the main install!)

As he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!" Coolly, I reply "If windows were compiled with GCC, would that make it GNU?" I interrupt his response with "-and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. Even if you were correct, you won't be for long." With a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. He lies on the floor, cold and limp. I've womansplained him to death.

We're offering a new side version of Iglunix, called GNUnix, it's a maximally gnu distribution, including the HURD.

just curious - why the choice to not include gnu packages? really interesting project !

The reason is pretty simple, we don’t like that one copypasta. But we also believe that it’s a good idea to give GNU some form of competition. Also, we want to improve the portability of the Linux userland by reducing the dependency on GNU software.

As a future HURD user, I appreciate the work you are doing to disentangle GNU OS from the linux kernel and am kinda floored at the level of work it must have take to get to where you are. I look forward to deploying iglunix on a machine or two to test it out!

What's your preferred terminology to refer to this project's OS stack as a whole? Is it just Iglunix, or iglunix os, or iglu/linux (presuming you're using the linux kernel)?

As person who uses Fedora, I just use dnf (no number), as a representative for Iglunix, we don’t have this problem because we don’t use DNF. Also we don’t have VSCode on our os.

Hi nerds i'm inquiring for help again because i can't find help online / not even sure how to google it.

dnf4 sees an update that dnf5 doesn't. Why? Is this bad? Should I do the update?

I noticed this was happening because KDE's discover still relies on dnf4 and shows me there are updates available while my update script didn't.

Last time i let KDE (so dnf4) do the updates, it broke part of my system.

It’s actually kinda awful that I got addicted to instagram for the past few weeks and kinda fell off of using tumblr at all hours of the day. I really need to stop using tiktok and instagram unless someone has directly sent me something and instead use that time to reblog vaguely horny Linux shit
