I’m officially connected to the Iglunix project. If you need some help with installing it, have this guide:

0. Boot an iso that isn’t @voidlinux and install xbps-static. This is important because Iglunix doesn’t currently have an iso.

1. Make two partitions on an empty drive. If using (G)Parted/KDE Partition Manager, using they should be a fat32 partition named IGLU_BOOT and an ext4 partition named IGLU_ROOT, if not, use fdisk to create the two partitions and mkfs to format them.

2. Make directory as root:

3: Mount IGLU_ROOT to /mnt/new-root

4: make a boot directory: /mnt/new-root/boot

5: mount IGLU_BOOT to /mnt/new-root/boot

6: xbps-install -r/path/to/mountpoint -SyfRhttps://mirror.iglunix.org/ (all .xbps files listed in the repo)

7: download this script and run it as root: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/anoraktrend/Iglu-install/main/postinstall

8: reboot, removing the iso. when dhcpcd is done running, hit enter and edit /etc/inittab to make it more secure: replace the ask firsts with respawn and change /bin/sh to /bin/sgetty 0 tty(match the tty at the beginning of the stanza) and add at least two more lines like tty1 with numbers

9: reboot one more time, and login as root. Congrats you have working Iglunix install, git clone https://github.com/iglunix/iglunix to wherever you want to keep your source code directories and optionally clone https://github.com/anoraktrend/frankensrc. Build packages with iglupkg, install using iglu add out/*.xbps.

If you want to contribute to this project, try making pull requests to Frankensrc first (I am more likely to make merges than Ella is, just based on freetime) and Iglunix second, (all Frankensrc build.shs are dual licensed as Berkeley Artistic and bsd0 to be upsourced to Iglunix).

Here be dragons: The Iglunix project does not officially support installing Iglunix at the moment. It’s not complete and many parts of it are not currently working. I can help you if you have issues installing the system if you need it, send an ask if you have trouble! My recommendation is to use a Chimera Linux iso for step zero. (You will need to run doas apk add chimera-repo-contrib chimera-repo-user to be able to install gparted).

DON'T USE BALENA ETCHER TO USB YOUR ISOs

As @tailsos-official stated in their blog post, it displays ads which is weird for a simple disk imaging tool and more important:

It shares your IP address, the file name of the image the model of the USB stick and a bunch of other things with the Balena company and third parties.

On Windows, use Rufus instead. It's pretty neat.

On Mac, use the Raspberry Pi Imager. It does its job. Or if you don't mind the terminal, use dd. It's built-in.

On Linux you can use dd, or whatever comes with your DE. Or whatever else you prefer. We got options.

You can also use Ventoy and just chuck all your ISOs on it. No need to reformat your usb drives again just for a new boot stick. One USB to rule them all.

Linux from scratch

Finally making my own post for once!!!

decided I would get a bit silly and over the last two days installed linux from scratch, and it was quite an experience. here we are though!!

security? strong passwords?? user access controls??? what are those /s

my install was pretty boring probably except for having to do a few more things to use the nvme drive that my laptop has and configuring uefi instead of mbr, both of which became problems later down the line unexpectedly, i feel like i learnt a lot from doing this and i hope ill never have to compile gcc again

It's home cinema manufacturing time! 🏴‍☠️ Gonna put my pirate show on my shelf! (I'm doing an Arts and Crafts Project and I'm making it everyone's problem.)

After seeing how much they cost, I abandoned the idea of getting a Blu-ray writer for now. For the time being, good old DVDs is what it's going to be! My TV is old and not very big, so DVD resolution is gonna be fine.

It's been ages since I last burned a DVD. For the full experience, I'm gonna create nice menus and pretty sleeves for the boxes. Graphic design is my passion! Um.

Well. First needed to find a program to do stuff with. I'm a Linux guy, so I'm using Devede. (Which is free, btw. In case someone else wants to do a low cost spot of putting pirate show on the shelf.)

DVDs fit a maximum of 120 minutes of video. So, four episodes, I thought. But after a quick attempt, the program refused to do more than three (maybe because of the menu also taking up space, and four episodes cutting pretty close to the 120 min mark?). Anyway, three episodes per disc it is. It's a pretty nice runtime for watching the entire disc, IMO. An hour and a half, and then you can return to reality to realise you should probably eat something, or go to bed because it's midnight.

OFMD with its current two seasons has a total of eighteen episodes, which is divisible by three. You get the following setup:

Disc 1: Pilot, A Damned Man, The Gentleman Pirate - That's pretty good, Stede's introduction to piracy all on one disc!

Disc 2: Discomfort in a Married State, The Best Revenge is Dressing Well, The Art of Fuckery - All bangers. Great to watch together, our boys meet and shenanigans happen!

Disc 3: This is Happening, We Gull Way Back, Act of Grace - Many romantic moments, lots of great scenes, shit hits the fan at the end there. Alright!

Disc 4: Wherever you go, there you are, Impossible Birds, Red Flags - ... Pain and angst! What have I done!?! The disc of horrors. Gotta make sure to have tissues at hand when I watch this. But hey, it also has messy bun Ed! Small mercies.

Disc 5: The Innkeeper, Fun and Games, The Curse of the Seafaring Life. - Another disc with all winners. I love all these episodes so much! (You can watch this disc to recover from the trauma of the previous one!) But seriously, this one slaps.

Disc 6: Calypso's Birthday, Man on Fire, Mermen - Great combination again. Season finale! Love and excitement!

... Honestly, except for the psychological damage of putting all the most painful episodes together, this is coming out pretty cool. Says a lot about how good the show is. I actually really love all the episodes (yes even the painful angsty episodes of massive depression). Thinking about this little project really reminded me how much I love this entire show.

So, we got a tracklist, now menus, then we can burn this stuff!

I did the menu backgrounds in GIMP. Realised I have a big folder full of screenshots I took myself, screenshots someone else took and posted on Tumblr, official promo pics for the show, and I have no idea anymore where most of them are from, because I named the files according to what's on them. Which is useful for when you want to find pics (Need a picture of cursed suit Stede? I have files named that, easy peasy!), but not so great if you wanted to give credit to whoever took a given pic you used. (It's probably @sherlockig or @ofmd-ann or @blakbonnet. Please feel credited, your beautiful screens and gifs brighten my day, and some of them are now probably part of my DVD menus. Shrunk down and cropped, but, yeah.)

I originally wanted to structure my menus as having the title of an episode, then some pics from it, then the next episode, then pics from that, and so forth, but I couldn't convince the program to give me the necessary padding between the menu items, so I ended up just putting the episode images below the menu. Still like it.

Anyway, DVD menus can also play sound! Behold a crappy video of my beautiful creation (provided entirely for sound):

Initial Post

alright, welcome to the definitely 100% official Wayfire gimmick blog.

I plan on actually posting about Wayfire tho. in case you haven't heard about it yet, "Wayfire is a 3D Wayland compositor, inspired by Compiz and based on wlroots", and it's pretty dang sexy if you ask me.

i currently still use Hyprland, but want to use this blog to document the transition over to a new Wayfire based setup. Here's my current one:

I plan on replacing a bunch of components with ags/Astral, a framework for creating desktop shell with gtk widgets on Wayland using Typescript.

I will also look into maybe switching theme from Cattpuccin over to Rose-pine, since their light variant is much nicer. Oh yeah, i might go light mode because that's what professionals like me prefer.

I'm currently still a bit bussy tho, so until I'm able to get some actual work done on the setup I'll probably be doing a little more gayposting, with the occasional software-focused post, much alike the rest of your favorite Linux gimmick blogs.

I have officially had enough of playing with the lowest view distance/no neighbors except for screenshots, regularly deleting CC to try and stay under a certain amount, restarting the game approximately once every 20 minutes on larger lots/larger families, opting to not go to any community lots because I just restarted and don't want to again, etc... At this point I've tried everything. I even tried DXVK once out of curiosity and it made it worse. I'm completely unable to play the Curious family (next to play, my queue is packed) or really any family with more than like 4 sims atm without flashing and crashing off the bat and the solution should not have to be smaller lots with fewer sims and not doing certain things.

So I'm gonna hop on the Linux bandwagon, yes I saw teaaddict's video. Per the advice (more like warnings) of my tech-y dad, I'm gonna try to install it on my old laptop rather than risk messing anything up on my current one. He said he wouldn't even risk an external drive because I don't know what I'm doing (and he won't help because I guess he hates Linux) so I dug my old laptop out and plugged it in to charge overnight so fingers crossed it turns on 🤞 I'll try it tomorrow after work. Luckily my queue has like 600 posts while I figure this all out.

Dunno whether it would be better to wipe it and just have Linux or if I should dual boot off the same drive. I got everything I needed off it in 2022 so it's fine to practice on, assuming it works. I was having some issues with it as why I got a new one in the first place. We'll see I guess.

Just found out that Microsoft has been added as a primary target for boycotting by BDS. This includes their software, games, and services.

I'm currently on a Windows system and can't hop immediately to another OS as some of my programs are still windows exclusive. Almost all Windows Telemetry is disabled on my computer. My plan is to later on switch to Linux after finding alternatives or at least find some compatibility with Linux for these programs. Not to mention backup alternatives.

No Edge, switched to Firefox and Vivaldi. Fuck Copilot.

And while BDS did ask for people to stop buying Microsoft games, there is some small leeway for those who have already bought them before the boycott: you can keep playing as long as you don't buy future Microsoft products or games (source). This includes micro-transactions, don't buy them. Minecraft Realms and Minecoins, too.

Since I own Minecraft (bought back in 2012), this one hurts a bit since I started back playing it as an escape. Have been avoiding Realms and Minecoins, but I'm still concerned about Telemetry. I can avoid Minecraft's two official desktop launchers - one from the Microsoft store and the other as direct download from Mojang's site. There are alternative launchers (including cracked versions) that allow you to continue playing Minecraft without Microsoft "seeing" you playing it, even without an account. Look for no account registration launchers or offline launchers like UltimMC or Prism Launcher. Avoid TLauncher because it may contain malware. You will miss out on servers, though.

There's also the No-Telemetry mod if you still want to play on either of the official launchers or if you are using a launcher that still requires an account.

Vintage Story, Luanti, VoxeLibre (mod for Luanti) are good alternatives if you want something Minecraft-like but completely disconnected from Microsoft. Mods for Luanti can be found here. Mods for Vintage Story can be found here.

Kinda of a reminder, You can participate in small parts of a boycott if there's some things you aren't ready to move on or if you can't find replacements.
