I do wonder how much of the mischaracterisation rampant in a lot of manga/manhua fandoms is related to a western perspective
#*this isn’t about no one in particular it’s just an observation based off of almost a decade of being in these things#Not just tg bc prior to i was into otome and Vocaloid and fairy tail & black butler and saw some of the same ‘americanisation’ on non usa c#aracters#Im not saying this is the only reason either like spiderverse is horrendously mischaracterised (my poor bby miggy…)#Im not rly into fandom so i just kind of like observing these things#I think it’s a very easy mistake to make#Like im british and i see things through a British lense. Naturally. It’s not a sin or a moral wrong#But i think it’s really worth understanding#That characters set in a different part of the world of different nationalities will have differing perspectives#I like sinking my teeth into things like yhat#Like if i use shu as an example:#I see lots of people characterise him as like an American rich kids. But rich kids in japan are very different#Privilege expresses itself differently depending on country - shuu is also old money. he’s not ur american insta influencer yk#i am guilty of it too - old money rich kids in the uk are associated with horseriding and i associate shuu with horseriding#tho i do think that’s a decent hc but ofc i am bias to myself#Idk it’s worth considering i think
