I got a screen calibrator thingie.

I'm starting to edit photos for actual clients and if they are going to be printing any of these images I have to make sure my display is as accurate as possible.
I went through and looked at all of my recent edits to see if any of them were egregiously out of whack except for that one weird photo of the red baby that seems to only be red on my Samsung phone. Thankfully everything else looked close to how I intended. So that is a relief.
Color accuracy used to be a much worse problem. In the old days you could look at identical displays from the same company and they would have completely different colors. But now with the exception of the cheapest of the cheap, every display in the last 5 years is calibrated at the factory. Though TVs are a mixed bag because the "standard" or "vivid" modes are usually set as default so they stand out in stores and most people don't know to change that to the cinema or movie mode to get the accurate colors.
Oh, and did you know the ambient light can affect color accuracy too? So if you aren't looking at my images in a darkened room then your eyeballs could be seeing them way different than my intentions.
Makes me want to pull my hair out.
From now on you all have to come over to my house when I publish an image. We'll have a little viewing party and I will bake everyone cookies and we'll head to the basement and turn out the lights and you can be all, "That baby is the perfect amount of red."
I think going forward I will adjust according to my calibrated screen and if my colors look funky on your device I can just say, "Not my fault, Datacolor Inc. says your screen sucks. Deal with it."
Actually, I would like to get an iPhone as a reference display.
Combined with my Samsung phone, I'd be able to see how my images look on ~80% of smartphones. And I could be reasonably sure my colors are decent for the majority of folks who see them.
But iPhones be spendy so that will have to wait, as my finances took a sudden infuriating turn recently. But hopefully I can keep getting clients to help me stave off homelessness. You'd think close family would be concerned about something like that. I think I'm just going to choose my family from here on out.

1. Image transfer: HDMI / Displayport or USB-C / Thunderbolt can be used
2. Data transfer: Can be connected to the USB-C / thunderbolt port of the monitor through the USB-A to C cable. Click [Enter] to save and enter the configuration data in user mode 1/2 or set mode.
If step 1 does not configure the parameters with the set values, but with your own customized parameters, the custom values for this configuration can be stored in [Custom Target]. If you choose a schedule, you can start setting when you want the schedule to run and whether you want it to repeat weekly or just once.

I have started taking photo editing gigs. But in order to do them properly I had to purchase some tools to help me.
I got an advanced colorimeter to calibrate all of my displays so I don't have to check my edits on 9 different screens to make sure they hold up. Plus I assume most of my edits will be printed out and you cannot send something to print without an accurate screen.
I mean, you can. There isn't a law against it. But if you want the image on the screen to look anything like what spits out of the printer, ya gotta calibrate.
And I had to buy a $70 software license because I need a single filter Photoshop does not offer. It removes the textured pattern in scanned photos and there is literally no other way to do it.
I feel like I just bought this tool kit...

After the low-pass filtering process of the human visual system, bright or dark lines will appear when displayed. Due to the limitations of the existing mechanical technology, the small spacing display screen generally requires the correction of bright and dark lines to significantly improve the uniformity of the box.
2. Brightness consistency between different boxes
There is a significant difference between box calibration and field calibration, that is, the box is not spliced during calibration, and the surrounding area is not used as a reference during calibration. After calibration, it is necessary to ensure that the box is spliced arbitrarily and there is no difference in brightness and color. More importantly, as a band-pass filter, the human visual system is not sensitive to the gradual brightness difference or the small detail difference of angular resolution, but is extremely sensitive to the edge step signal with medium and low frequency components. When applied to the field of LED display, the human eye can only distinguish the brightness difference between LED pixels by more than 4-5%, but can easily identify the 1% difference in the brightness of the box. That is to say, the human eye has a low requirement for the consistency of pixels inside the box, but a high requirement for the consistency between boxes. Therefore, the consistency of brightness and color between boxes is a unique key technology for box calibration.
The difference in brightness and color between boxes is mainly reflected in two aspects
A. There are differences in the average brightness between boxes. When splicing boxes, obvious boundary lines will appear, which can be achieved by adjusting the color gamut and setting appropriate target values; If necessary, a colorimeter with higher accuracy is required for auxiliary measurement.
B. The brightness distribution of the box presents a gradient gradient distribution, which is caused by the gradient distribution of the measured data of the box. Because the visual system is not sensitive to the brightness difference of low frequency, that is, smooth gradient, this problem is difficult to be found when the single box is calibrated. However, when the boxes are spliced together, the brightness of the splice will change greatly, forming an obvious splice line. This requires that the calibration system can detect and solve the gradient distribution problem of the measured data.
