I want to make a post about the timeline because I think the real life wait we have in between chapters can influence what we think of their actions. It really hasn’t been that long since they reunited. This is a timeline only focused on Yashiro and Doumeki.

Day 1: (ch 42)they reunite and Yashiro seems upset with Doumeki for being in the yakuza. Yashiro and Nanahara get invited back to Tsunakawa’s place where they are slighlty interrogated and get invited to stay the night. Tsunakawa is the one who brings up change asking Yashiro if people change or if people can change. (Ch 43) Yashiro is taking a bath while Doumeki stands “guard” and they have an almost wistful convo. It then gets ruined by Inami and they exchange regretful, petty words from both sides. Doumeki tells Yashiro if he hasn’t changed, can he do it with Doumeki? (Ch 44) Yashiro is rightfully offended and they get heated which ultimately ends with Doumeki grabbing Yashiro and holding him by the waist and hair doing an almost kiss.

After being interrupted, they part ways. Yashiro then tries to masturbate while thinking of Doumeki.

Day 2: (ch 44) Doumeki also spends the night at Tsunakawa’s house. Yashiro and Doumeki reunite in the morning and Doumeki apologizes for Kamiya’s behavior. Yashiro thought he was apologizing for what he did the night prior but Doumeki claims he had nothing to apologize for. (Ch 45) the stakeout for Kido happens. Nanahara and Yashiro have a discussion about how Doumeki ended up with sakura. Nanahara says Doumeki is not fit to be a yakuza and asks Yashiro if that is why he got rid of him to which Yashiro then asks what kind of person is fit to be a yakuza. Nanahara then asks Yashiro about having his own group and tells Yashiro he has decided to follow him. Yashiro tells him to get married and have a kid but their convo gets interrupted by Kamiya letting them know both he and Doumeki can hear them. They capture Kido and interrogate him. Doumeki offers to drive Yashiro home. Yashiro tells him he didn’t have to offer to which Doumeki retorts that he didn’t have to accept. Doumeki uses this opportunity to warn Yashiro of the danger but Yashiro seems to have expected more. They have this convo:

Doumeki catches up with Yashiro and asks him what he wants. Yashiro replies he doesn’t want anything. Yashiro is upset because he thinks he is the only one… and Inami interrupts. Yashiro tries to run to Inami and Doumeki drags him away. It really speaks on how self destructive Yashiro can be that when he feels Doumeki is distant or rejecting him, he runs to a man that raped him. Inami is the only other man, besides his stepfather, who he acknowledges that about. It is kind of important to remember when we see Yashiro pursue sex with others. (Ch 46) Doumeki drags Yashiro inside and Yashiro keeps rejecting Doumeki. Yashiro struggles with his keys which is the first indication something is wrong with him to Doumeki. Doumeki tries to initiate a sexual encounter which Yashiro is resisting to. Doumeki tells Yashiro the fact that he hasn’t changed irritates him. Yashiro has his first orgasm in 4 years and Doumeki continues to finger him. This moment was dub con and Yashiro seemed resigned Doumeki was going to have sex with him. It was a low point for Doumeki in my opinion. Doumeki gives him an ultimatum: no sex with others while being involved in the investigation. Yashiro goes to meet with Inami while Doumeki goes to meet with Izumi. Doumeki catches Yashiro after his meet up with Inami. Yashiro tells him he doesn’t consent to Doumeki’s ultimatum. Doumeki physically drags him to meet Muraji who tells him he needs a bodyguard. After what Yashiro told him, Doumeki volunteers Kamiya. He then meets up with Kamiya and Yashiro to give Kamiya a gun. He asks Yashiro about what he knew and tells him he is no match for Yashiro resulting in this reaction:

Yashiro asks him why he volunteered Kamiya and Doumeki tells him he has Inami. Yashiro tries to tell him something about Inami but stops. (Ch 49) Yashiro waits for Doumeki to go up to his apartment. Yashiro laughs at Doumeki and tells him he hasn’t changed in that aspect. Doumeki also tells Yashiro he hasn’t changed. Doumeki carries Yashiro to bed. (Ch 50) Doumeki assumes Yashiro picked him for sex and proceeds to funger Yashiro. Another dub con encounter.

Day 4: Nanahara catches Doumeki at Yashiro’s apartment. They involve themselves with where Doumeki is going. They meet up with Kamiya at Izumi’s club. Yashiro is jealous from the start since she calls Doumeki by his name. Nanahara tells Yashiro that Doumeki might be dating her. Kamiya and Doumeki discuss Doumeki’s gentle treatment of Izumi which upsets Yashiro to the point where he excuses himself and goes to look for Kido. Doumeki catches Yashiro giving Kido a blowjob. Doumeki asks him if he would be happy if he violated Yashiro. (Ch 51) Doumeki drags Yashiro to his apartment. It seems like this will be another dub con encounter but Yashiro starts to touch Doumeki back when Doumeki starts being more gentle. He discovers Doumeki’s tattoo which enrages him and he proceeds to beat Doumeki. Doumeki takes the hits and eventually stops him. He kisses him and Yashiro reciprocates passionately. (Ch 52) they have consensual sex but Yashiro wanted it more gentle and Doumeki is still angry. Yashiro passes out and wakes up to Doumeki in the shower. Yashiro is upset that Doumeki was rough and thinks that Doumeki is more gentle to women. They go to meet with Nanahara. I don’t think this is the next day since Nanahara is trying to track down Yashiro after he disappeared. (Ch 53) Doumeki watches Yashiro sleep and thinks of Muraji’s warning. He answer Yashiro’s cell and asks Nanahara if something is wrong with Yashiro. Nanahara tells him to stay in his place. Yashiro’s hair is down and Doumeki tells him not to let others see him in that way. They stakeout the building and Doumeki tries to go in by himself. Yashiro calls Inami who tells him they need to meet for the info which is disrupted by Doumeki. Doumeki makes plans to meet with Inami.

Night 4 into day 5:(Ch 55) Doumeki goes to tell Yashiro that he is out of the investigation. Yashiro comments it is the middle of the night. He seemingly leaves after breaking the news. (Ch 56) he confronts Yashiro about his impotency. Yashiro confesses in a round about way. They start getting passionate. (Ch 57) they have sex. Yashiro has a strong reaction when Doumeki causes him to flashback to volume 5. Doumeki lets him know he’ll be back and Yashiro asks “for sex?”

Day 6 to about day 19: they have just been meeting for sex. This is an approximate day range since it was mention they had been doing this for 2 weeks.

Can you please look at chapter 45 and pg 33 and tell me what you think about the interaction with Kai and Nishio? Do you think Nishio the guy is scared to get into a fight with Sakura group? He seemed pretty scared.

To give context for this interaction for anyone else who might read this: Nishio is the name of other scar-face-guy who was in the Kyosei group at the time of Niki’s kidnapping. He guessed that Doumeki might remember him and, now that Kido is being taken, Tsunakawa will learn who is behind the scheme involving Yamakawa and the money he owns to the Sakura family. Kai and Nishio are now part of a criminal gang named Ryuzu, based in Shibuya, that collects money for the Okuyama group there. From the conversation Anon is asking about, I think it is very important that we learned that Okuyama himself isn’t aware of the situation and the actions Kai has taken. I think Kai asks Nishio why he is scared, because the latter is expressing his worries about this issue. If Yamakawa puts two and two together then he will think that Okuyama is involved - as we see happens just few pages later - and the Sakura family will link the hit and run and Yamakawa’s disappearance with the same perpetrators of Niki’s kidnapping. If Okuyama doesn’t even know about all this then it is a huge mess. Kai is doing something very reckless, because the situation between Okuyama and Tsunakawa has always been very tense. But we know that Kai is a bit of a rogue and that Okuyama’s protection wasn’t enough for him to escape Tsunakawa’s punishment. In my opinion, he is deliberately baiting the Sakura family to go after Okuyama and his group.

Imo, Nishio is very much right about being weary of the possibility that their little scheme as a criminal gang would cause an all out yakuza war between the Sakura family and Okuyama group, because that has the potential to grow in an even bigger mess if the conflict reaches the Kyokusei and the Sanwakai, that are the bigger yakuza syndicates who probably won’t be very happy about it making the news. And the possibility of Doushinkai being also involved has just increased now that Yashiro’s involvement has been noticed. But Doushinkai having business dealings with Kyokusei could shatter the amicable alliance they had maintained with the Sanwakai for a long time. I don’t know how far Yoneda is planning to go, but things don’t look very good all around. But maybe Kai’s plan is actually it: to bait Tsunakawa to start the conflict against an unaware Okuyama. Regardless who wins, there will be consequences to pay for both of them.

And what about this little piece of information that Inami told Doumeki? He was trying to bait Doumeki into revealing if he knew things, but Doumeki knows enough about police methods that he didn’t fall into it. But I was alarmed because we knew that Okuyama wasn’t aware of what Kai was doing and now we know he hasn’t been around lately. He was probably not even involved in Niki’s kidnapping imo, an action like that doesn’t really align with the type of person he seemed to be in the flashback scenes we saw recently. And that conversation about scales, balance and retaliation.

In conclusion, I think Nishio expressed a fear of a future escalation, which is probably something Kai is instead intentionally and secretly pursuing out of spite.

Saezuru Chapter 50 spoilers! So far:

-There is some touching. Doumeki fingers Yashiro on the bed (he gets three in, attaboy) and Yashiro is completely flustered and comes. Doumeki comments on Yashiro bruises from Inami.

-Once they’re done, Doumeki answers Yashiro’s door and Nanahara is there and his face is asklhalshla. He asks what Doumeki is doing in Yashiro’s apartment and YASHIRO JUST STROLLS OUT INTO THE LIVING ROOM COMPLETELY NAKED ajsgakjgsa

-They talk about yakuza drama (Okuyama, what Yashiro and Sakura are after, etc...)

-Then Yashiro, Doumeki, Nanahara, and Kamiya go out to eat? I think? There is some kind of talk about money being stolen but I don’t have all the context. 

-The Club Madam runs into Doumeki (above) and is overly familiar and friendly with him WHICH YASHIRO DOES NOT LIKE. Remember, he thinks Doumeki has a woman and Nanahara says something that lightly confirms Yashiro’s wrong suspicions.

-Because Yashiro has the emotional profile of a child, he acts on his jealousy by announcing that he’s going to the restroom but he really doesn’t; instead, he goes to where Kido is being held. He propositions Kido in a really desperate way and blows him but Kido is confused and comments on how Yashiro can’t get it up. It’s like WHY ARE WE DOING THIS???

-Doumeki storms in, hits(?) Kido, and rips Yashiro away, just like he does when Yashiro gets too close to Inami. Then he says something like “will you be satisfied if I do it? Don’t force me to fuck you” although the jury is still out on the direct translation. I have a bunch of people looking into it.

Impressions; Chapter 55

Since there are three or more intermittent panels in which Doumeki is wide-eyed, he looks appreciably astonished to hear that Yashiro is impotent. He tries not to divulge the privacy of Yashiro that he knows, even though he is virtually ‘sharing’ Yashiro with Inami. But Inami must have caught it on. I like the way Doumeki described that Yashiro’s body cannot be helped (lustful) (ch.50, vol.8). He does not attribute Yashiro’s ‘lustfulness’ to a matter of personality. More precisely, I like the prudence of this author in these details. Doumeki would have thought that Yashiro’s body needed constant care for its ‘lustfulness,’ and he has taken on that task, and done it. And then he might well have realized that he did not want any other man to do it.

Inami also offers some business information. The two almost have reached the same view that Kai may have had something to do with the Niki kidnapping. And that about Okuyama, it appears he has been reclusive recently.

Hirata had temporarily occupied the position of a deuteragonist during his conflict, and from now on, it seems Tsunakawa will be so. He is an intriguing type of yakuza in this work. Yashiro, Nanahara, Sugimoto, Hirata, Doumeki, and probably even Misumi drifted into the yakuza world as outcasts with nowhere else to go, and then, they formed a pseudo-family there. But for Tsunakawa, it is the family business. He was born into a declining family as a scion. The baby grew up and undertook both obligations imposed on him and promised privileges without being daunt. Young Tsunakawa was an irreverent yakuza prince, radiating a glistening ambition to rebuild the small kingdom he was to inherit.

10 years later, he still “has forced himself” from the corresponding need (ch.37, vol.7), and the Sakura Family has many enemies. At the same time, he appears to be a pretty good family man. Since the Family has survived through a system of hereditary succession, it is likely that their patriarch, the clan leader for generations too, has managed to balance the family business and family life. At a very young age, Niki understood the significance of Doumeki’s missing small finger (ch.37). It is natural for her that men who serve Papa would attend to her as well. Do not know what kind of life she will choose for herself after she grows up, yet for now she has accepted the fate of the yakuza little princess. It was Tsunakawa himself who cut Kai’s left eye. Then it looked like Kai lost his left small finger and was excommunicated from the Family. When Okuyama-gumi became independent, he must have settled there. Indeed, Okuyama seemed to be calm, or “a man who does not know what he is thinking (ch.49, vol.8).”

Doumeki bowing to Tsunakawa, replying, “I understood,” it feels like all the more ‘manly.’ It would be partly because his neck looks thicker, but also because it can be figured readily that he is in control of his swirling emotions for Yashiro under the equable attitude he shows to his superiors. The car on the next page would be parked near the gate of the Tsunakawa house. Doumeki has the media in his hand, putting a pained expression on his face. Then he drives to Yashiro’s high-rise condo.

Four years ago, when Yashiro took a cigarette out, it was one of Doumeki’s functions to light it (ch.15, vol.3 or a line drawing end of vol.3). Yashiro neither asks, “Are you back?” nor “Why do you take it away?” He might have been surprised, otherwise centers on this moment. He must feel reluctant to let go of what their reunion and the ensuing concerted action have brought.

Yashiro and Domeki seem to be getting closer emotionally, not only physically. Concomitantly, Doumeki has been in a dilemma between his loyalty to the Sakura Family and his private emotions toward the former boss. On the other hand, Yashiro’s trauma has never been unresolved. That is why he has needed Inami for the last four years.

What Yashiro had undergone was too relentless to overcome as if nothing untoward had occurred. It should be impossible to do such. By all means, however, I do hope his severe psychological load due to the profound devastation to his fundamental sense of safety, security, and faith in others -- his anxiety and fear of his existence -- will lessen, and he will be able to deal with them more moderately. Expect how further the work explores it...

What do you think about her (and her outfit, of course)?

Not too charged, not particularly impractical, but the silhouette is too loose and so it lacks definition and proper contrast. The hair and the capelet can work together, but then overskirt comes out from under the stiffness of the doublet, not puffy enough to properly follow its line, but flowing in just the wrong way to turn the body into an amorphous blob, especially because it also covers the top of the boots. It parts in the middle to reveal the underskirt, also giving us this weird color imbalance/whiplash effect (red-black-re- no wait it's black again). If they wanted to give her a long skirt no matter what then it would have been better for the doublet to not jut out at the hips, if not then they should've given her a mini skirt that completes the triangular line of the points of the doublet at the hips:

Or just remove the skirts and leave her in the leggings alone.

However I want to point out that I get what the artist was going for thanks to this picture:

This is a good pose with a lot of personality that also showcases the appeal of these kind of asymmetrical, a-line pieces, but it also proves my point that shoving this particular gimmick together more than once makes them compete in an unflattering way. Her legs look great here but the entire area around the hips turns into this confusing mess that flatters nothing, and even if that was cleaner, again, the skirts and capelet would still compete because they are doing the same effect for the torso and the legs, thus unnecessarily dividing them and preventing the whole from becoming unified and cohesive.

I also want to talk about her weapon.

(My God is this pose unflattering to her) Look if she was a clown I could accept it because all things considered the rod is not the most impractical weapon you could think of, especially if the balls are attached to a chain, but it still looks ridiculous on her. Sakura Kinomoto (all praise her noble name) already proved that you can have a staff that's both acrobatic and wizardly with just one weighted end, so I think she should follow her example.

Other than that there's not much else to say, she pretty mid ove- wait, she's supposed to be 21 and a motherly figure to Ao? That hairstyle needs to change, stat.

Chapter 56 Thoughts

I have so many thoughts based on the detailed summary. First of all, progress was made and Yashiro has surprised us all. Second, I was not expecting a second sex scene in the same volume. It is basically unheard of in saezuru. But I am grateful to Yoneda Kou for being so kind to us. Doumeki interrogating Yashiro was also unexpected for me. I thought he would be wary considering his past experiences in pushing Yashiro to open up. However, Yashiro also showed how much he has developed and, although his answers had a bit of a bite to them, he answered them nonetheless. He told Doumeki Inami means nothing but an info exchange which I am glad he got that off his chest considering he has been wanting to tell Doumeki that. I was happy to see Doumeki say that Yashiro asking about Izumi is like Doumeki asking about Inami. I think that can help see how much Yashiro having sex with other men hurts Doumeki just as the thought of Doumeki with other women hurts Yashiro. This chapter was so amazing. The passion, the love and the fact that they’re able to have this night after the rough sex which left them both unsatisfied *chef’s kiss*.

I do have some concerns regarding this chapter. Doumeki was being evasive and not as open as Yashiro when answering questions. He also called what they were doing just sex. The scary part is the fact that Doumeki has this dangerous task assigned to him and is going to be a part of a seemingly dangerous Yakuza war. There is also Inami, Izumi and other various factors that can create problems between Yashiro and Doumeki. Technically, Doumeki hasn’t disobeyed Tsunakawa yet as Tsunakawa told him not to be Yashiro’s bodyguard and to pass the message of pulling Yashiro out of the investigation. Since this was a personal matter of them having sex, he has done what Tsunakawa told him to. Doumeki is still loyal to sakura at the end of the day, in a different way to Yashiro, and that will affect them. Yashiro also still has his own personal journey to go through. This chapter provided me with comfort that Yashiro can take the lead if needed. But a part of me also wonders if this was Doumeki’s way of saying goodbye? I didn’t touch on everything I wanted to in the chapter because it was so juicy and amazing so please expect more of ramblings haha.

Is Yashiro working the Sakura family to spend time with Doumeki? I have seen people say that it is to protect Doumeki but I think in this case Yashiro can’t really protect him. I am a little confused on that. I thought it was to both keep an eye on Doumeki and to able to spend time with him.

That's an interesting question! I'll try my best to outline what I know about all the different players in the yakuza plot, how Yashiro got involved, and whether his motive has changed. Feel free to correct me if I missed something!

Here's a quick overview of the three yakuza syndicates involved in this plot, and their subgroups/affiliates (which I had to type up and screenshot from a different program, because Tumblr's post editor sucks so much ass)

Thanks to Doumeki’s memory, the Sakura Group discovered that the survivors responsible for Niki’s kidnapping are linked to Okuyama. Those survivors, formerly part of Kyouseikai, are now part of a violent and reckless non-yakuza group called Ryuuzu, who work under the Okuyama Group. The Okuyama group is an independent organization under the bigger Kyokuseikai (not to be confused with the former Kyouseikai a.k.a. Niki's kidnappers).

One of Ryuuzu’s leaders is a man named Kai, who's likely a former member of Sakura Group that left with Okuyama. He is arrogant, disrespectful, and dishonest, even to his own bosses. Kai appears to be acting on his own accord, and letting his underlings run wild and create conflict with other yakuza groups without consideration. Besides the Sakura Group, Ryuuzu has also come into conflict with a subgroup of the Doushinkai— according to Muraji that subgroup was gunned down by Ryuuzu. Misumi informed Yashiro of this incident before Kido kidnapped Yamakawa. In other words, Ryuuzu already messed with Doushinkai before starting drama with Sakura Group.

As we know, Muraji is aware of Doushinkai’s interest in Okyuama, because of what Ryuuzu did to their subgroup. Muraji believes Yashiro is working to help Misumi find the link between Ryuuzu and Okuyama. Remember, the Doushinkai has close ties with Okuyama’s parent group, the Kyokuseikai. If Kyokuseikai’s subgroups are attacking Doushinkai’s subgroups, it’s bad news— the yakuza is all about respect and honour, so if anyone undermines you, they must be punished, honour must be restored. In all likelihood, Misumi wants to have concrete proof before officially accusing Okuyama of any wrongdoing.

However, Yashiro denied working for Misumi (ch. 48), claiming he is only after the money that Kido swindled from him, which is now in Yamakawa’s hands. But in chapter 50, Nanahara and Yashiro told Doumeki that they would be in trouble with Misumi if they didn't investigate Okuyama. Because of those remarks, Doumeki relented and brought them to their affiliate club to investigate a theft they suspect was committed by former members of Sakura Group a.k.a., current members of Okuyama Group. I assume it doesn't matter which they find first, Ryuuzu members, or Okuyama members. If there is a link between them, interrogating either group will bring out information.

So what’s the truth, is Yashiro investigating Okuyama and Ryuuzu, or is he after the money in Yamakawa’s possession, or is he secretly protecting Doumeki? Personally, I think his initial intent was the investigation into Okuyama, but as time went on, he probably sensed that trouble was coming. In fact, Yashiro sensed trouble when Inami called him to inform him of Kido’s hit-and-run incident. But now Yashiro knows just how much is on the line...

Let’s summarize what Yashiro knows: 1) Ryuuzu's connection to Niki's kidnapping, 2) Tsunakawa’s reaction to the news of Kyouseikai survivors/Ryuuzu working under Okuyama (obviously it means war), 3) Doumeki is a key player in this war, because he is Sakura Group’s best chance at identifying former Kyouseikai members. He's also extremely reliable not just as an investigator, but also as a muscle for the group. That being said, it’s in Yashiro’s nature to prevent bloodshed, minimize damage, and protect those he holds dear. It wouldn’t at all surprise me if Yashiro intends to see this investigation till the end, if it'll allow him to keep a close eye on Doumeki.

In any case, I don’t think Yashiro joined this investigation for the money. He’s never been the type of person to get himself and his subordinates into danger, especially not for money. Plus, Yashiro was already cashing checks, so he has no reason to act desperate. Yashiro knew Kido was scamming other people also— why get involved in a complicated situation? Why visit Ryuuzaki in jail to get info? It all just seems like too much effort and too much trouble. I can’t picture Yashiro doing any of this voluntarily for just some cash.

In other words, Yashiro was made to do this, and there is only one person that can make Yashiro do something he doesn’t want to. This was Misumi’s request. Yashiro was looking for Kido, because he knew that Kido was backed by Ryuuzu (Inami's intel), and Ryuuzu is responsible for gunning down the Doushinkai subgroup. He wanted to find Kido, not for the money, but for information about Okuyama and Ryuuzu.

Now, I know that in ch. 48 Yashiro told Doumeki that he only heard about Kido's involvement with Ryuuzu AFTER he started the chase, but I think that was a bit of an overstatement. Yashiro may have asked Inami about Kido's whereabouts because he wanted to collect his debt, but I don't think Y started chasing Kido until Inami confirmed Kido's involvement with Ryuuzu. Why? The flashback of Inami in ch. 48 is the exact same image of him when he called Yashiro after Kido's hit-and-run, which occurred before Y began physically searching for Kido. So, contrary to what he told Doumeki, Yashiro actually was aware of Kido's involvement with Ryuuzu from the start. I'm not surprised Doumeki was suspicious though, given that Yashiro brought up the possibility of another yakuza group's involvement with Kido back when they captured his brother. Doumeki correctly deduced Yashiro's knowledge and Muraji was also on point with his assessment based on what he knew about the Doushinkai and Yashiro's relationship with Misumi. Yashiro can't easily deceive the Sakura Group, well, except for Kamiya lol

But ofc, Yashiro still kept his true aim a secret, as always, because mystery has always worked in his favour. That’s his M.O. Nothing new. He gave the same debt-collection narrative to Muraji that he gave to Ryuuzaki. But, the fact that Yashiro told Doumeki the truth about Misumi’s request in ch. 50 makes me think that Y’s primary motive has changed. Yashiro wouldn't give up information that easily unless he is trying to mislead and/or there is a level of trust with the person he's working with. Anyway, I hope that answers some questions about Yashiro's collaboration with the Sakura Group
