A World of Opportunity: Advantages of Pursuing MBBS Studies in Abroad
Tumblr media
Studying MBBS abroad offers a remarkable chance for cultural immersion. Embracing a new culture involves actively engaging with local communities, participating in cultural events, joining student clubs or organizations, and fostering connections with both international and local peers. By immersing yourself in the local culture, you not only enrich your educational experience but also develop valuable cross-cultural skills that can benefit you personally and professionally.
Studying MBBS in abroad can open up many exciting opportunities. Here are some reasons why:
Explore New Cultures: When you study abroad, you get to experience different cultures and ways of life. This can be really interesting and help you grow as a person.
Learn from the Best: Many countries have top-notch medical schools with excellent teachers and facilities. Studying in one of these schools can give you a high-quality education.
Advance Your Career: Completing your MBBS abroad can give you more career options. You might be able to work in different countries or get specialized training in a field you're interested in.
Make Lifelong Connections: Studying abroad lets you meet people from all over the world. These friendships can last a lifetime and open doors to future opportunities.
Develop Language Skills: If you study in a country where English isn't the main language, you can improve your language skills. This can be helpful in your personal and professional life.
Affordability: In some cases, studying MBBS abroad can be more affordable than in your home country. There might be scholarships or lower tuition fees available for international students.
Experience Advanced Technology: Some countries are leaders in medical research and technology. By studying there, you can learn about the latest advancements in medicine.
Gain Independence: Living in a foreign country teaches you to be independent and adaptable. These are valuable skills that will serve you well in your future career.

Some of you might have read my posting, “Not My World”, a few months ago on Andrew, a young boy in Uganda who came to the ER after domestic abuse… A lot has happened in the last few months! (If you haven’t read it, it will give you some context.)
Initially, Andrew went back to his village with some family members who agreed to try to keep him off the streets. Issues of custody are complicated in Uganda and being with family is often preferred. Andrew’s father was in jail at the time and it seemed safe enough to have him back in familiar surroundings. Unfortunately, Andrew went back to his old ways after a few weeks of not coming home and stealing for things. He can’t be more than about 9 years old. So, it’s hard to fault him for doing things that he’s learned lead to survival. Then, about a month ago, Andrew’s father was released from prison.
Andrew’s village is about 10 minutes away by car from the hospital. Yet, within days of his father’s release, Andrew returned to the last place that he knew he’d been safe, our hospital. I’m told that he showed up on steps of the guest house where my colleague Ashley and I had been living while I was there in November. Sadly, I was not there to greet him.
Thankfully, Ashley is on an extended project in Uganda and happened to be home the day he arrived! He stayed with Ashley for a few days until the wonderful social work staff at the hospital could help negotiate getting him into a local school. As you can imagine, behaviors like stealing, swearing and emotional outbursts are difficult for schools to handle when there are other children around. However, this particular school has been wonderful in being patient and loving with Andrew. As of writing this, he has been attending school and is preparing to transition to a residential dormitory once he feels safer in the setting. A child who previously had almost no hope of a future will now have an education and a safe environment in which to grow up.
I’m reminded of that old story about a man seeing a child on a beach covered in washed up starfish. One-by-one the child threw the creatures back into the ocean. Upon seeing this, the man asked him, “There's too many. What difference can you hope to make doing that?” The child threw another starfish back and responded, “It made a difference to that one.”
Sometimes problems, like poverty, crime, social injustice or inequality, seem so huge that it seems hopeless to try. However, I can say with renewed faith that even small actions can matter. As a person of faith, I realize that God doesn’t ask us to save the world, but he does place people in front of us and ask us to save them. Who in your world needs saving today?
