Friday 24th March CreatingBeyondLimits will be live streaming for 8 hours to help raise money for The Irish Cancer Society under their Heroes From Home event. It would be amazing if anyone could come over to his twitch and show some support and signal boost this. If you can't donate, that is perfectly fine. Just being there would mean alot. My mum died suddenly due to cancer in January 2021, and this cause means a hell of a lot to me. Last years stream was such a blast, watching Dean (creatingBeyondLimits) be tortured through various things his wife Sam prepared was hilarious, as well as playing community games and chatting. THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN + SWEATERS
‘“The sweaters, the jumpers that they were wearing at the time were much simpler, so a lot of time they were quite plain and some cable-knit just here, on the side,” [costume designer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh] says of the warm and wooly wardrobe staple [...]  The Dublin-based Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh worked with local octogenarian Delia Barry to help design the handmade knits worn by Farrell, Gleeson, and Barry Keoghan.
“Brendan loved [the sweaters] so much, she’s been knitting jumpers for him since Christmas. He sends her cards … and she’s just adorable. She knit the one for Barry Keoghan and Colin’s red one with the collar,” Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh explains. The handcrafted piece with its exaggerated collar and deep sanguine color is truly one-of-a-kind.’ [x]

Rosalind Russell - The Miracle Woman
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Catherine Rosalind Russell (born in Waterbury, Connecticut on June 4, 1907) was an American actress known for playing sassy, wisecracking women in 1930s and '40s comedies. Despite going through postpartum depression, the deaths of her siblings, breast cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis, she thrived as a charismatic actress on film and the stage, earning the nickname "The Miracle Woman.”
Raised in a strict Irish-American, Catholic family. She attended  Rosemont College and Marymount College, before graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, unbeknownst to her parents who believed she was studying to be a speech teacher.
Against parental objections, she began her career as a fashion model and took acting jobs in upstate New York, Connecticut, and Boston before eventually appearing in Broadway.
In 1933, Russell went to Los Angeles, where she was hired as a contract player for Universal Studios but did not appear in a movie. Unhappy at Universal, she moved to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where she broke through in the classic screwball comedy His Girl Friday (1940), directed by Howard Hawks.
She took a break after giving birth from her career, but made a comeback with RKO Pictures and then with Columbia Pictures. She continued to appear in critically acclaimed movies and Broadway shows through the mid-1960s, including the title role of the long-running stage comedy Auntie Mame (based on a Patrick Dennis novel) as well as the 1958 film version.
After years of battling breast cancer and even getting a double mastectomy, she died at her home in Beverly Hills, California at 69 years of age. Months after her death, she was honored by her acting colleagues with the “Interlude With Rosalind Russell” at the Shubert Theater in Broadway.
Legacy:

Deborah Cavendish the Duchess of Devonshire (1920-2014) and her husband Andrew Cavendish, the Duke of Devonshire and their two children; Peregrine and Emma. The family were photographed by Norman Parkinson for Vogue magazine, in August 1952.
Debo as she was affectionately known, was the youngest of seven siblings. She has five sisters Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and a brother, Tom. Her death in 2014 as the last of the clan, signalled the end of an era which had spanned 110 years of the Mitford girls capturing society.
Her parents, David, 2nd Baron Redesdale and his wife Sydney were for the best part penniless and eccentric aristocrats. School for the girls was frowned upon, in case they should develop thick calves from playing hockey (Tom, who spent time away studying at Eton, was a Barrister and musician, later killed in Burma in 1945). Amongst other things, linen napkins were abandoned because of the cost of laundering them, and the children were forced to follow a kosher diet on the premises that cancer was less prevalent among Jews. The girls were very hands on and practical at home, developing enquiring minds as they were essentially left to their own devices. This made them ever more appealing when they entered society. Of the sisters, Jessica, Nancy and Deborah became writers.
Their combination of beauty, brains and humour catapulted them to celebrities status and they remained continually courted by the press covering stories of affairs, notoriety and extreme politics.
Diana’s affair with fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley caused her to leave her marriage to Britain’s wealthiest man at the time, Irish brewing heir, Bryan Guinness. Unity followed her infatuation with Hitler to Germany and died from an attempted suicide. Jessica’s communist support of the Spanish Civil War led her to flee to Spain at age 18, eventually settling in the US. Nancy became a Dior wearing socialist, who left her marriage and moved to France where she indulged in a doomed affair with Charles de Gaulle's right-hand man, Gaston Palewski. Pamela, married the millionaire scientist Derek Jackson and sought of a quieter life out of the limelight. At the time, 15 year-old Debo, who had a crush on Derek, fainted when she heard the news.
Much like the Queen Mother, Debo was looking forward to a life of relative obscurity by marrying the second son of the Duke of Devonshire, Andrew Cavendish in 1941. Unexpectedly, when the 10th Duke died in 1950, they found themselves the 11th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Inheriting Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall, Lismore Castle and Bolton Abbey. Death duties meant they donated Hardwick Hall to the nation and precious works of art were sold as Andrew negotiated endlessly, until the debt was finally settled in 1974.
Their lives changed when Billy Hartington, Andrew’s elder brother and heir, was killed during the Second World War by a sniper's bullet in 1944. His death only four months after his marriage to the very popular Kathleen 'Kick' Kennedy, JFK's sister. Four years later, Kick died in a plane crash and is buried in the churchyard at Edensor on the family estate.
Debo redecorated Chatsworth which had previously been leased to a girl’s school, opened it up to the public and spent 54 years of her life there. Her initiatives included the Chatsworth Farmyard – set up to provide people of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to learn about farming, food production and traditional landscapes; Chatsworth Farm Shop; and the Orangery gift shop. A pioneer of her time, it paved the way for the commercialisation of other farm estate businesses like Daylesford and Highgrove Farm shops.
Debo moved into Derbyshire vicarage on the death of her husband and assuming the title Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.
Writers of period dramas and historical fiction have looked to the world of the Mitfords sisters for inspiration. Julian Fellowes’ Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey is said to be based on Nancy’s wicked humour.
Diana was portrayed by Evelyn Waugh in Vile Bodies, Deborah was painted by Lucian Freud and Jessica had a cardboard coffin named after her. John Betjeman - who at one time was in love with Pamela - celebrated the sisters in a verse, the first lines of which read: "The Mitford girls! The Mitford Girls/ I love them for their sins".
Her last publication before her death was her autobiography, ‘Wait For Me!’. See less See less

I have to say this because I just had a very serious talk with my bestie about weight.
When I first went to college, I was doing acrobatics four days a week and a 15 to 18 hour course load a semester, while spending six months out of the year sick or recovering from such. The bronchitis plus [whatever comorbid illness struck this time] was bad enough, but the recovery took so long because I had so little fat that my body would start eating muscle and tissue.
I had access to a school nutritionist and so I wrote down everything that I tended to eat, how often I did so. My diet was and still is semi-decent, mostly because I have enough texture issues that a lot of junk food and "unhealthy" (I say that loosely) stuff I can only eat very tiny portions of, if at all, and most meat things are completely off the table unless I make it myself.
I was and still am very high energy. I have always been skinny or slender since I started walking, had some body image issues after being sick and I could count every rib. At the time of going to the nutritionist, I was 190 pounds of mostly muscle.
She looked at me like I'd lost my goddamn mind when I said I wanted to gain some fat and I wanted to know why I just wasn't. I was a freshman. I knew about the freshman fifteen. Instead of gaining fifteen pounds, though, I lost it, and it was fifteen pounds I didn't really have to lose. I was eating something ridiculous like almost double what the average woman "should" be, calorie wise, basically constantly snacking because I was always hungry.
Two years later I was in the hospital for a month. A wheelchair for seven. Lost almost eighty pounds in eight months. Died three times.
It's five years past that now. I'll never be able to fly like I used to, but I can pick up unsuspecting coworkers and adoptive siblings again, which is great fun for startling them. I can renovate my house without too much issue. I weigh 160 lbs now, and for the first time in my life, I have fat on me, after seven years of working at it and so many goddamn catastrophes it's ludicrous.
It took me seven years to gain twenty pounds of fat. Of me actively working on it. There's no such fucking thing as "weight gain!" pills, and there's no such thing as "weight loss" pills either, and take it from an Irish woman? Starving yourself doesn't work either. If you feel good in your body, if it works for you regardless of your weight, then you're fine. The only way anything is going to change is a massive force--like illness, or amputation, or cancer, or occupation, or food scarcity.
Fat people's positive representation in media is shit, and the way that Americans, at least, tend to see fat people is shit, and I'm sorry. You are worthy of feeling at home in your body, without fear of judgement of yourself or society, of feeling good without reservation. The twenty pounds of fat I've gained has, no joke, changed my life. I don't get cold standing in front of a refrigerator, I'm not utterly terrified of getting sick again and dying of something stupid like bronchitis or strep throat. I feel good, and I hope that you can feel good too, and not continuously damage your body by yoyoing your weight with attempted diets and pills.

The Gilded Age, Ep. 2x07 – Wonders Never Cease (Spoilers)
I got to admit, while I still enjoy the actors and the characters, I really feel like the writing has taken a step back this season.  Peggy’s story is still interesting and so is George’s.  Bertha’s, most of it is good, except for Winterton (and I think that has to do with the fact that I’m not particularly fond of how the actress plays the character).  Every other storyline has been predictable and boring.
John is invited to be part of the clockmakers society and now can be considered for a patent.  The Vallet’s daughter tells her father that she did not know he was being run out of town and is coming up with a plan to make sure he can stay and not be a Vallet.  No one cares.
The episode can be broken up into three parts.  The first, are the last few days leading up to the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge.  The second is the day of the opening.  The third is the night/morning after of the opening.
The Days Before:
Marion is clearly unsure about her engagement to Dashell, although she’s convinced herself this is a good match.  The family has an engagement lunch at the Van Rijhn’s; but then Forte is taken ill.  Yes, it’s TV Show Cancer and so, even though he looks perfectly healthy, he will be dead by the end of the episode.  He’s taken upstairs to rest.
Ms. Astor has let Bertha know that she has procured a box at the Music Hall for Bertha.  Bertha says she will have to check with her husband first.  George points out that Bertha will be a founder of The Met and that puts her in a better position than with just the box.
Larry tries to convince one of the trustees, that they should recognize the wife as the builder of the bridge.  Larry is shot down.
Peggy is helping find a way to deal with the school closures.  The leader of the fight says the only way to fight may be to integrate the schools and that also means they would have to hire white teachers.  Peggy’s father points out that the only way white teachers and parents would listen to such an idea is if another white person talked to them.  Peggy is able to get Marion to come speak to an integrated meeting.  One white male teacher tells the group that he would be willing to work at the school, that he could get other teachers, and students as well.  The problem is, all of these people are Irish and if you know about how Irish immigrates were seen as back then…let’s just say this is not exactly the win that they needed.  They’re white, but not the right white.
And they are turning George into more of a Robber Barron than I thought.  George has agreed to many of the terms of the Union, except only some people get a raise for six months.  His hope is that, in the end, the Workers Union will split apart.  Specifically, he set it up so that Protestant Faith workers, who would be a good portion of the workers, will turn against the Immigrants, Catholics, and Jews.  Boy is this episode a social lesson.
The Day of:
At a meeting, Ms. Astor tells everyone that Bertha will be taking a box at the Music Hall.  Bertha turns her down.  This, of course, embarrasses Ms. Astor and, yeah, this won’t be good.
The other business men are angry at Gorge and say he’s on his own.
Ada is told that her husband is about to die.  Agnes and Forte make peace.  Agnes sends for Oscar, but no one can find him.
The reason no one can find Oscar is because he had a chance encounter with George.  Long story short, Oscar tells George the company he invested in (another railroad company) and Gorge tells him that company doesn’t exist.  Turns out Miss Beaton doesn’t either.  She’s fleeced Oscar.  I wondered if this is where the story was going but…I don’t know, the way they introduced Beaton into the story made it seem like people actually knew her family; not just what Beaton had told them.
That night:
At a private reception, Bertha sees Ms. Astor with the Duke and realizes that she’s stolen him away from Bertha.
Larry, at the same party, is able to tell people about how a woman built the bridge.  But since it’s at a private party, everyone will ignore it and she will be forgotten.
Forte dies overnight.  Dashell, who stayed at the house, leaves for the day.  After he leaves, Larry sees Marion and she tells him what happened.  They go for a walk.
Oscar comes to the house and admits to Agnes that he’s been swindled.  It’s almost all of their money.  Why do I have a feeling the family will be "saved" because Forte had money and no one knew about it?

One thing that's also really frustrated to me as a (mixed) indigenous trans masc is how it's so ingrained that long hair = feminine. I want to keep my long hair because it makes me feel connected to my heritage, especially with how part of the genocide towards indigenous communities included boys and men being forced to cut their hair. But it's like choosing between my culture and being misgendered/people refusing to take my gender seriously because I don't present masc enough (by white standards) and it's just so frustrating.
Dog question tax: I know you love chihuahuas and terriers, but is there another small breed you like?
Big same, being mixed Irish/Black/Native, where long hair is not discouraged in the bulk of my family history and even the white people in my family often have/had longer hair than your typical standard American man due to their rural roots. And knowing that black and Native men are often forced to cut their hair- or worse, held down while their hair is forcibly cut as a means of cultural genocide- in order to conform with the dominant white society makes me want to grow my hair out and wear it in traditional styles even more.
However, it often has a feminizing effect on my face and body type, and it leads to me being misgendered more than normal. Which, I get it, even cis men with long hair get misgendered more often because of society's strong association with long hair = woman, but still. I have a white friend who is a cis gay man and he hasn't cut his hair in over a decade- he's very clearly male and is otherwise masc-presenting and not outwardly GNC and yet when we're out together there are times we get called "ladies" or someone catcalls him because they think he's a woman. This is also part of why I cannot wrap my head around the idea that men don't experience misogyny- my cis male friend experiences plenty of misogyny just because he wears his hair long. He stopped cutting his hair not due to cultural reasons but to honor his father who died of cancer and was distraught to have been losing his hair during his chemo.
For your dog ask: the majority of small dogs I like are going to be terriers, terrier-lites, and terrier-likes, but I would say that other small dogs I enjoy that are not terriers are frenchies, dachshunds, and beagles, though I have pretty much zero desire to own any of those for various reasons. I also think cavaliers are hideously cute, and for a long time I wanted a papillon.

Nate is also a bit of a people pleaser and struggles to say no to people, often putting aside his own wants and needs in favor of helping a friend or loved one. He also puts a little too much stock in what other people think of him, although that's mostly in regards to the people that he cares about and professors. Nate is a soft soul with a tough outer shell. He doesn’t let just anyone in and can be quite selective about who he lets see beyond his generous and friendly exterior.
Tumblr media
✧ MAGIC ✧
Wand: Nate’s wand is made of alder wood with a dragon heartstring core and is 11 ½ inches with a slightly springy flexibility.
⤷ While Alder was an unyielding wood, Garrick Ollivander had discovered that its ideal owner was not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable. Whereas most wand woods sought similarity in the characters of those they would best serve, alder was unusual in that it seemed to desire a nature that was markedly different from its own, if not precisely opposite. When an alder wand was happily placed, it became a magnificent, loyal helpmate. Of all wand types, alder was best suited to non-verbal spell work, whence came its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards.
Other Magical Abilities: None
Patronus: Labrador retriever
Patronus Memory: The day that his father took him and his brothers to play a friendly little game of football/soccer on the pitch for the team his father is the assistant manager to
Boggart: The corpse of someone that Nate loves
Riddikulus: The corpse begins to rattle off a silly Irish folk song that his father used to sing
Amortentia:
Nate smells like hair gel, clean laundry, bergamot, and chocolate.
Nate smells freshly baked sugar cookies, cinnamon, fir trees, and fruit lip gloss.
Mirror of Erised: Nate sees himself with his parents, brothers, grandmother, a faceless woman and faceless children. Later, Nova, Wyatt, Jonah, and Zoey take the place of the faceless woman and children.

✧ FAMILY ✧
Father: David Padraig MacKade [deceased, 1965-2006]
Born in 1965, David was the oldest child of Jean and Joseph MacKade. He had a good childhood and was joined by a younger sister, Jennifer, when he was three. He went on to study criminal justice in Dublin, where in 1991, he was set up on a blind date with Clare O’Brien, his future wife, by one of their mutual friends. David was wary of the blind date, even though his friend insisted that Clare was a good fit for him. He agreed, though, and it was one of the best decisions of his life. Even though they didn’t officially begin dating until 1992. They dated for a year, before marrying in late 1993. Their first year of marriage was fairly calm and full of love.  In 1994, they moved back to David’s hometown of Mullingar, where he accepted a career in the Garda as an inspector. He kept this career for five years, eventually retiring after he suffered a bullet injury to his leg. After his retirement, he found a career working as an assistant manager in a local, small-time football/soccer club.
On December 30, 1996, David welcomed his first two children, Finnian Joseph and Nathaniel Brian. A little over three years later, David welcomed his third son, Padraig Darragh who was mostly known as Paddy on April 16, 2000. Then, three years after Paddy, David welcomed his youngest son, Owen, on June 3, 2003.
Things got complicated after Owen was born, though. Clare was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. It broke David’s heart, but he carried on the best he could, providing a solid and strong force for his young sons, who were just as (if not more) heartbroken and confused as he was. By late 2004, it had become clear that Clare’s cancer was terminal and she passed away shortly after, leaving David a widower and single father. He did his best, thanks to help from his mother and sister.  He provided a stable and loving home for his sons, even as they downsized into a smaller house.
Unfortunately, tragedy came for the MacKade family once again in the summer of 2006. David had gone running earlier that day and collapsed in the family’s living room late one night. His eldest sons were the ones that found him and called for an ambulance, but it was too late and the only information provided to David’s mother was that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism but that they couldn’t quite figure out where it had come from.
Nate had a good relationship with his father. However, many of his memories of the man began to fade and it was hard to shake the image of his father’s lifeless body in their living room. Despite this, though, whenever he thinks about his father, Nate gets a warm feeling in his chest. He knows how much David loved them and realizes later on just how much his father had done for him and his brother after their mother passed away.
Mother: Clare Siobhan MacKade née O’Brien [deceased, 1967-2004]
Born in 1967, Clare O’Brien was the oldest daughter of Owen and Mary O’Brien and grew up in County Waterford, Ireland. She had a happy and calm childhood, eventually joined by a younger sister, Fiadh, in 1973. After completing her schooling, Clare went to university in Dublin, where she studied nursing. In 1991, Clare was set up on a blind date with David MacKade by a mutual friend. Clare was much more optimistic about the date than David. She enjoyed the date quite a lot, but didn’t mind that it wasn’t until 1992 that they began dating officially. Clare and David married a year later, in 1993. The first year of their marriage was quite smooth and full of love. In 1994, Clare moved to her husband’s hometown of Mullingar. She quickly found a job as a nurse at the local hospital. She continued to work at the hospital until she needed to take sick leave and when she took maternity leave after her boys were born.
On December 30, 1996, Clare welcomed her first children, Finnian Joseph and Nathaniel Brian. A little over three years later, her third son, Padraig Darragh (mostly known as Paddy), was born on April 16, 2000. Three years after Paddy, her youngest son, Owen David, was born on June 3, 2003.
However, shortly after Owen was born, Clare began having bad headaches and feeling quite ill. After many tests, she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor meaning that it was cancerous. In 2004, Clare began treatment. Unfortunately, it proved ineffective as her diagnosis became terminal a few months later. Clare passed away in late 2004, a few weeks before the twins’ eighth birthday.
Nate had a good relationship with his mother. He had had a close relationship with her, so her death hit him quite hard, even though they had all known it was coming. Nate doesn’t have too many clear memories of his mother, though, given that she passed away when he was seven. He misses her a lot, too.

Twin Brother: Finnian Joseph “Finn” MacKade
Born on December 30, 1996, Finn is the eldest son of David and Clare MacKade, twelve minutes older than Nate, and a Ravenclaw. Nate has a close relationship with his brother. It’s not a perfect relationship, as they definitely have their contentious moments and their fair share of arguments. However, Nate knows that Finn will always have his back and that he can trust Finn with any problem that he’s having. Despite their moments of arguing, Nate doesn’t bicker much with Finn and what bickering they do is rarely mean-spirited. Nate loves his brother a lot and he’d do anything to help his brother.

Brother: Padraig Darragh “Paddy” MacKade
Born on April 16, 2000, Paddy is the third son of David and Clare MacKade, approximately four years younger than Nate, and a Hufflepuff. Nate has a close relationship with his younger brother. It’s not perfect, but their approximately four year age gap does a lot to keep away major arguments… that is, if they’re not related to Nate’s somewhat protective nature. However, Nate really enjoys spending time with Paddy and they’ve got a decent amount in common, especially when they’re both sorted into Hufflepuff and Nate begins to keep a protective eye on Paddy. Nate loves his little brother a lot and would do anything to help his brother.

Brother: Owen David MacKade
Born on June 3, 2003, Owen is the youngest son of David and Clare MacKade, approximately seven years younger than Nate, and a Ravenclaw. Nate has a close relationship with Owen, although there is a bit of distance between the two brothers. There’s the approximately six year age gap and the fact that they don’t have too many common interests and the fact that Owen gravitates more towards Finn. He’s protective of Owen, even more so than he is of Paddy due to their six year age gap. Nate loves his youngest brother a lot and would do anything to help his brother.

Grandmother: Jean Frances MacKade née Hughes [1935-2029]
Tumblr media
Born in 1935, Jean Hughes grew up in Surrey, England as the daughter of an Irishman and an Englishwoman. She had a good childhood, although it was interrupted when her father went off to war in 1941. It was tough on Jean, who at six, didn’t understand what was happening or why her beloved father had to leave. This was compounded when her maternal cousins came to live with Jean and her mother. Her teen years were better, as her family had gone back to normal, even though things weren’t exactly normal. After she graduated in 1953, Jean went to university in London, studying music education.
It was when she was in university that Jean met her future husband, Joseph MacKade. She was quite taken with the Irishman, who was three years older than her. They kept in touch for three years, finally meaning once again in 1960. They married in 1962 in Dublin, Ireland. Jean then got a job as a music teacher in Joseph’s hometown of Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. She adored her career, but was rather less satisfied with her personal life as she struggled to find common ground with many of her neighbors. This began to change in 1965, when her eldest child, David Padraig, was born. Three years later, her daughter, Jennifer was born. Things went well from then on, everything wasn’t perfect but they had enough to get by.
Jean was thrilled to welcome Clare O’Brien into the family when her son married the woman in 1993. She loved the younger woman dearly and Jean was extremely overjoyed when she met her first grandchildren, Finnian and Nathaniel. It helped to lighten the blow of the death of her husband in 1995, as she had been slowly spiraling. The birth of her grandsons put things back into perspective for Jean, something that was strengthened by the subsequent births of her two younger grandsons, Padraig and Owen. She loved them all dearly, and this included Jennifer’s two children, who weren’t born until 2006.
What Jean hadn’t counted on was the deaths of her son and daughter-in-law. Jean was left reeling, putting all of her focus into the four grandsons that she now had to raise. She struggled for those first few months, trying to figure out what to do with the money that David and Clare had saved and how to raise four grieving boys. Eventually, she divided her son’s savings into five new accounts, one for each of his sons and one for everyday use. From then on, Jean came out of retirement to make up the difference by working as a substitute music teacher and a waitress. She loved her grandsons and always felt like she was dropping the ball in some way with them. Jean would live until the age of 93, passing away peacefully in her sleep.
Nate has a good relationship with his grandmother. He loves her dearly and has always had a close relationship with her. After he and his brothers were taken in by her, Nate noticed how hard she was working to take care of him and his brothers and made it his mission to make sure that everything at home was running smoothly. It was something that Jean hadn’t realized was going on until much later and she always regretted never noticing it.

✧ HISTORY & BACKGROUND ✧
Place of Birth: Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland
Hometown: Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland
Childhood:
Born on December 30, 1996 at 12:07 pm, Nate is the second son of Clare and David MacKade, joining his twin brother, Finnian Joseph, who had been born twelve minutes earlier at 11:55 am. Three years later, Nate gained a younger brother, Padraig Darragh, on April 16, 2000. On June 3, 2003, Nate gained a second younger brother, Owen David. Nate had a good childhood and, for seven years, it was stable. He grew up in a decently sized house in Mullingar, his father’s childhood hometown. However, things began to change when his mother was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Everything slowly began to change as the diagnosis shocked the entire MacKade family. They held together the best they could. Nate and his brothers were shielded from some of the worst aspects, but David could only hide so much. Eventually, though, the brain tumor turned terminal and in late 2004, Clare passed away. Thankfully, it had been a peaceful passing in her sleep and in her own home.
The death of his mother rattled the entire MacKade family and it felt like everything was changing. A few months after Clare’s passing, the family moved into a smaller home in order to save money as they were down one income. It was a tough adjustment for Nate and Finn, who went from sharing a large and spacious bedroom with two twin beds to a much smaller bedroom with bunk beds. For a few months, it strained their relationship, until David sat the boys down and explained to them that they didn’t need to love it but they had to tolerate it. His speech worked and the brothers eventually worked out a truce. Things moved smoothly from that moment on, but tragedy was looming closer and closer. One summer night in 2006, Nate and Finn found their father’s body in the living room and David MacKade was eventually declared dead.
After the death of his father, Nate and his brothers were taken in by their grandmother which saw their third move in nearly as many years. They moved into their father’s childhood home, with Nate and Finn sharing his childhood bedroom and their younger brothers sharing their aunt’s childhood bedroom. After their grandmother noticed their struggles, she enrolled Nate and his brothers in a local counseling program. Nate found many of the strategies to be quite helpful, even if he was reluctant to engage in it for the most part. Nate also began to take on some responsibilities at home in an attempt to take some of the weight off of his grandmother’s shoulders as he saw how hard she was working. Things also started to change when, on his eleventh birthday, Nate received a letter and a visit informing him that he and Finn were wizards and suddenly some of the strange things that had seemed to follow him everywhere began to make sense.
Hogwarts Years:
Upon starting Hogwarts, Nate was sorted into Hufflepuff. He was startled to be separated from his twin for the first time in their lives, but eventually he began to see it as a good thing. Nate found a groove in Hufflepuff, making friends and discovering as much about magical history as he could. In his second year, he made the Hufflepuff quidditch team, earning the position of keeper. In his fifth year, he was made a prefect. He also met his future wife, Nova Hartley, in his third year and slowly began to develop romantic feelings for her.
Adulthood:
After graduating from Hogwarts, Nate began working as an archivist for the ministry of magic. He worked for the ministry for twelve years, after which he pursued a career as a historian. He specifically was interested in discovering more about the way that muggle and magical histories intersected and eventually wrote a few books about the subject. Then, at the age of 65, Nate accepted the position of history of magic professor at Hogwarts. He kept this particular career until the age of 100.
Also after graduating from Hogwarts, Nate moved into a small house that he shared with Finn in Mullingar in order to help their grandmother take care of their younger brothers. It was a complicated yet fulfilling challenge and Nate was grateful for all of the support that his grandmother had given himself and his brothers.
Nate married Nova Hartley in 2023. Their eldest child, Wyatt Hartley MacKade, was born on August 17, 2025 while their twins, Jonah David and Zoey Vanessa MacKade were born five years later on June 2, 2030.
Old Age:
After retiring, Nate spent the remainder of his life spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He devoted time to studying history and traveling and doing whatever the hell he wanted to.
Death:
Nate passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 137. He had lived a long and fulfilled life, leaving behind three children, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Trivia:
Nate’s middle name is after his mother’s maiden name.
Nate keeps a journal. He writes in it most nights as he’s found that it quells a lot of his anxiety and stress.
Nate often carries out tutoring groups for history of magic. He’s a big history nerd and is subsequently one of the only students who actually pay attention when Binns teaches.
He likes to cook. It started after he noticed that his grandmother was being stretched way too thin and started to learn how to cook. He’s quite proud of the fact that he managed to replicate his mother’s mac and cheese recipe.
Nate is a bit of a people pleaser. It’s not necessarily for everyone, but if you are someone that he cares about and asks for help, Nate will probably say yes… even if it’s at the detriment of his own goals.
It takes a lot to get on his bad side. Nate isn’t one to hold grudges, but if his trust gets badly broken, it takes a lot to get his forgiveness.
Nate’s paternal great-great-great-grandparents were both squibs. They took one half of his surname and one half of her surname to create the surname MacKade.

Ireland is in the midst of a social revolution and it’s having a profound impact on our art. Where once we lived in the shadow of the cross, we are now cosmopolitan Europeans creating a post-Catholic society, exploring and re-identifying what it means to be Irish in a globalised world. Our art has exploded with ferocious energy to meet this moment. Prophet Song seems to me a global novel, but it is indisputably Irish.

Welcome to Aurora Bay, PATRICK BALFE! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like CILLIAN MURPHY. You must be the FORTY TWO year old BALFE FASHION HOUSE CHAIRMAN. Word is you’re METICULOUS but can also be a bit TACITURN and your favourite song is SHOUT BY TEARS FOR FEARS. I also heard you’ll be staying in AURORABAY DRIVE. I’m sure you’ll love it!
@aurorabayaesthetic
GENERAL DETAILS.
BIRTH NAME:  patrick oisin balfe AGE: forty three DATE OF BIRTH: march 27 1981 PLACE OF BIRTH: belfast, northern ireland ETHNICITY: irish GENDER: cis male PRONOUNS: he/him ORIENTATION: heterosexual/heteroromantic RELIGION: raised catholic OCCUPATION: balfe fashion house chairman
PERSONALITY.
POSITIVE TRAITS: meticulous & focused NEGATIVE TRAITS: taciturn & internalized MYERS BRIGGS: ISTJ
THE RUNDOWN.
patrick doesn't remember not being around money. born in belfast, 1981, 'the troubles' that plagued his country didn't seem to touch the balfe's that much. maybe it could be explained by the amount of rich englishmen in uniforms that passed through his fathers home before the family left for london to live with the uncles, aunts, and cousins. patrick's father inherited the company that made the family rich after leaving the army. balfe was a fashion house with mysterious and questionable past, but had loyal but small clientele of the upper echelons of british society. throughout the early 2000's it was clear that the balfe children's father was starting to become frail. and despite doctors predictions cancer would take the patriarch's life, orion survived. the balfe name was not a household name amongst the general public still, while fashion houses like versace and gucci became open to commercial stores welcoming whoever had the money, balfe still stood as a house that served the particular few of society. things were pleasant between the siblings, but patrick knew that behind closed doors his siblings were champing at the bit to become the next orion. in 2015 it was decided that balfe house would move its headquarters to new york to expand into the north american market, and all five balfe children followed their parents across the atlantic. mostly willing, they knew deep down that soon they'd have to compete with each other for who took over next. patrick was the oldest of the five, but not the loudest, and was often seen as the underdog of the five. while his siblings were loud about their skills and capability, patrick kept his to himself as he developed his career. from the outside, it seemed patrick was the least interested to take over, but orion knew better. while he entertained his other childrens determination to prove their worth, he kept an eye on his oldest, and quietest boy. while patrick's siblings enjoyed being shoved into high flying positions at the company, patrick started lower, working regionally. he learnt the business with the people who made the business work, people his siblings would never offer a glance towards. by mid 2023, orion fell sick a second time, and on new year eve, he passed surrounded by his family. his wife, grieving... but his kids were plotting. well, except patrick, he could remember glancing around the room and experiencing a furry that he'd never experienced before. and suddenly patrick felt determined to take the opportunity for himself as his siblings certainly didn't deserve the tittle. they didn't spend the time with orion like patrick did, they were going to ruin what their father had achieved with their greed. but patrick didn't have to do too much, his position was secured. orions final will and testament was made a few months before when he was diagnosed terminally for the final time. patricks siblings, well, they responded terribly. they accused him of manipulating their father, complaining he would bring down the business and they would fight in the courts to have him stripped of the chairman position — somehow. despite receiving millions of dollars in inheritance. it wasn't enough for them. and deep down, patrick kind of liked seeing them angry. after two months, patrick grew afraid of his siblings malice, and after discussion with his uncle (who was still ceo to the business) it was decided he would temporarily re-locate his home to the west coast to get away from them. he would fly, regularly, to stay at his apartment in new york. he has plans for the business, to his sisters dismay as she wrangled her way onto the board. but one evil was better than four. and he was ready to take everything away from her if he needed to.

Celebrating Irish Women's Vision in Science and AI
Tumblr media
British Embassy Honors Visionary Women
The British Embassy in Ireland recently hosted a groundbreaking event, "Information and Misinformation through the Ages: Past, Present and Future," in Co Kildare, near the historical site where St Brigid established her monastery. This gathering illuminated the contributions of women in the fields of artificial intelligence, science, and technology, seamlessly blending the rich tapestry of the past with the dynamic innovations of the present.
Bridging History and Innovation
A Gathering of Minds The event brought together esteemed scientists, academics, and policymakers from both Ireland and the UK, creating a platform to celebrate women's achievements in artificial intelligence. Notable speakers included Dr. Niamh Wycherley from Maynooth University, who shared insights into St Brigid's legacy and the impact of misinformation and technology on historical research. Dr. Erin Young of the UK's Alan Turing Institute addressed diversity and gender gaps in data and AI, while Laura Ellis from the BBC explored technology's role in shaping our future.   A Tribute to St Brigid The British Deputy Ambassador to Ireland, Elin Burns, highlighted the significance of the event's location and timing, coinciding with the 1500th anniversary of St Brigid's death. Moreover, Burns emphasized the importance of such gatherings in addressing the persistent gender gap in STEM disciplines and celebrated the fusion of historical and contemporary visionaries in the scenic town of Kildare. Speaking about the event the British Deputy Ambassador to Ireland, Elin Burns said: Today we are joined by women who are scientists, researchers and policy makers who work in the area of AI across the UK and Ireland. Events such as these, where women can share, connect and celebrate their work are so important as a significant gender gap still persists at all levels of STEM disciplines. We chose the wonderful location of Kildare to celebrate women and girls in science because of Brigid and the 1500th anniversary of her death. As Ireland’s only female patron saint, and an inspirational leader of her time, we thought it was apt to celebrate a visionary of the past with visionaries of the present. On the theme of AI; we are in the midst of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. Artificial Intelligence promises to further transform nearly every aspect of our economy and society. The opportunities are transformational - advancing drug discovery, making transport safer and cleaner, improving public services, speeding up and improving diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer and much more. To seize the opportunities however, we must manage the risks, which is why the Prime Minister organised the first Global Summit on AI Safety last November.
AI: A Catalyst for Change
Navigating the Technological Revolution The event highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, emphasizing its role in advancing drug discovery and public services, as well as enhancing diagnostics and treatment for diseases like cancer. The discussions also covered managing AI risks, citing the Prime Minister's initiative for the inaugural Global Summit on AI Safety.   Voices of Visionaries Dr. Niamh Wycherley explored challenges in historical research due to biased sources, particularly regarding women's roles in Irish history. Dr. Erin Young introduced the Women in Data Science and AI project, promoting responsible and inclusive innovation. Chaired by Dr. Susan Leavy of University College Dublin, the panel discussed ethical, economic, and governance challenges posed by AI.   Sources: THX News & British Embassy Dublin.
