ISOTYPE

[Arntz's] work was noticed by Otto Neurath, a social scientist and founder of the Museum of Society and Economy (Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum) in Vienna, Austria. Neurath had developed a method to communicate complex information on society, economy and politics in simple images. For his ‘Vienna method of visual statistics’, he needed a designer who could make elementary signs, pictograms that could summarize a subject at a glance. Arntz’s clear-cut style suited Neurath’s goals perfectly, and so he invited the young artists to come to Vienna in 1928, and work on further developing his method, later known as ISOTYPE, International System Of TYpographic Picture Education. During his career, Arntz designed around 4000 different pictograms and abstracted illustrations for this system.

Every element after lead is radioactive.

Diamond and graphite are both forms pure carbon takes. (This is why it's so easy to create synthetic diamond, and why De Beers is shitting themselves currently. Turns out when you have the technology to create entirely new elements, even if only for seconds of observation, rearranging carbon atoms into particular configurations is trivial. But, ya know, De Beers would rather keep their slaves.)

The most radioactive naturally-occurring element is believed to be polonium, though some man-made elements are more radioactive since they have half-lives on the order of seconds. Polonium-210 is the most radioactive isotype thereof, and has the dubious honor of having been used in a political assassination.

Some chemicals have different forms, called isomers, that still work drastically differently. The most infamous of these is thalidomide. It is a chiral (that is, like your left and right hand, it can't be superimposed over its mirror image) molecule. The "good" form, R-thalidomide, was useful in treating morning sickness, but the body would convert this to S-thalidomide since it couldn't distinguish the two. The S-thalidomide then caused an epidemic of birth defects, and thalidomide was removed from the market. It remains a popular case study for a variety of issues: isomers and interconversion, chirality, birth defects, and more.

Hi, I saw you posted some art about autisn including puzzle pieces

I just wanted to let you know that puzzle pieces are associated with autism speaks, a group harmful to autistic people. Many autistic people take offense to the imagery of puzzle pieces.

If you don't know about autism speaks they're a company that perpetuates harmful stereotypes about autistic people and is directly harmful to autistic people. They also lobby to have the rights of autistic people reduced or remove, show autism as a disease that needs to be cure (it isn't) and just otherwise isn't helpful to autistic people

I understand that not everyone is aware of this so I'm here to just let you know. Better imagery is to use an infinity symbol in either gold (for autism) or in rainbow (for all nureodiversities).

I don't want someone to see you using the puzzle pieces and assume you're involved with hate towards the community when you just probably don't know how harmful they can be

My son has been legally diagnosed with Autism since he was 4 years old, and since then where I live, there is little information, and even yesterday, when it was a day to be visible about it, there was no talk about these isotypical representations.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me, it has a lot of value for me, and now this drawing more represents the values that I want for my son and for everyone.
