There is so much hate in the world. It is so LOUD...and I seem to attract and extraordinary amount of it. I know that I have a big mouth and that I have to speak up in the face of misinformation and confirmation bias, but when did it become ok to be completely disrespectful to the person? They used to teach how to talk to one another about our differences, perhaps we should return to this practice? 

As a woman, I’ve been called everything under the sun; awful things, terrible things, hurtful things. Fortunately, I have developed a thick skin for being called names, I’ve been hearing words like that from a very young age. They’re hurtful, yes; but only if I let them be. I am not the things others call me. 

However, there is something wrong with me. Why do I say such rude things to others? What TF compels me to say some of the things that have come out of my mouth? I never hear it until much later, the thing I said. It’s like I check out and don’t really process that it’s rude? It’s so bad that I’ve chosen to not talk to others in a group setting because I don’t want to say the wrong thing. And yet? I always seem to. It’s so goddamn frustrating. But not as frustrating as having to listen to people spout their hatred, bigotry, misogyny, know how wrong they are and being powerless to do anything more than speak up. But speaking up always leads to me getting so much hate back because I don’t believe in staying silent to please those that are part of the problem. 

I may be annoying. I may even come off as self-righteous at times, but at least I’m not them. More interested in themselves and sticking to their awful beliefs than even trying to listen to a different view. And I’M the difficult one? Who is the stronger person? The one that challenges you using facts and attempts to reason with you? Or the one that yells profanities and uses opinions to justify such atrocious beliefs?

Today has been such a hard day. It was the first time in over 3 years that I was so disappointed with people I work with. Tonight I have such a heavy hurt heart. It is with so many tears shed that I take this flag down so I have a blank background. This has also ignited another level of fire 🔥 in me. So long story short, I used to be pro-choice and made the switch to pro-life a few years back. And you can judge me solely based on that fact and say I don’t care about women’s rights or the poor or whatever, but I am in all circumstances pro-life and not just anti-abortion. I’m the pro-life person you keep asking about: “Where is the pro-lifer who cares about x, y, z?” It’s me, in addition to countless others. I believe in supporting the marginalized and the poor and those that are made most vulnerable by society. I believe in supporting first-time mothers, single or not, when they are scared and don’t know what to do. I believe in supporting expectant mothers who don’t think they can afford to take care of their baby. I believe in supporting people who have been sexually assaulted. I believe in affecting societal changes to make sure that all people have access to good and safe medical care and housing. I believe in restructuring the foster care system so that all children are safe and get the support they need to be healthy and happy. I believe in promoting being a foster parent and adopting (both of which I’m planning on doing myself) as valid and needed so that more people may choose to do so. I believe in making sure people have access to good mental health services. I believe in making sure people have access to rehab centers. I believe that violence against another person for any reason, physical, sexual, verbal or otherwise, is inherently wrong and needs to be eradicated. I believe in keeping LGBTQIA+ youth in their homes (so long as it is safe) and making sure they know Jesus loves them unconditionally as much as the rest of us. And I believe in telling people that no matter what they’ve done, there is always forgiveness and redemption and love in Jesus. And of course there’s always more. Believe me when I say I do care. When is enough, enough? When we will #WeThePeople say, #NoMorePoliceBrutality as a whole? I am sick and disgusted by this being allowed time after time and nothing is done! My heart hurts and is so heavy and while I am thankful that we were able to raise our children in a relevantly safe environment, that was not always the case but we were lucky enough to be able to move from a city full of strife and gang violence to a remote seaside tourist town on the #OregonCoast. I KNOW how lucky I am to have got my son away from a city that could have swallowed his life in so many horrific ways and luckier still I enabled my daughter to have carefree high school years before going on to the Army. I was lucky because I am white and my daughter can pass for white, but my son looks like his heritage and so every time he heads out of town, I am filled with worry and dread but I cannot imagine what it is like for the parents in big and inner cities, I can’t imagine at all.
