He wasn’t one for small talk, his quiet confidence keeping him at the center of attention without ever having to say much. But everything changed when she walked into his life.

It wasn’t love at first sight; it was something subtler, something more gradual. She wasn’t just his girlfriend—she was a force of nature, someone who made him rethink the way he carried himself, the way he spoke. They’d been together for nearly a year now, and he was beginning to realize how much she had seeped into his life, molding him in ways he never expected.

It started with the way she talked. At first, Ja'Marr didn’t even notice how she slipped words into her sentences with a casual ease—phrases that seemed to roll off her tongue like they belonged there. “You feel me?” she’d say, almost as if it was a punctuation mark, making sure her words landed, giving them weight. Or the way she’d stretch out a simple “okay” into something more rhythmic, like it was a song she’d been singing for years.

He had no idea how much of it was rubbing off on him.

“You’re really getting the hang of it,” she said, glancing at him. “I like it.”

Ja'Marr chuckled, feeling the warm rush of something unfamiliar. She looked at him with a teasing smirk. “Take over? Nah, I’m just being me. People like good energy. That’s all it is.”

“Yeah, well, I’m starting to see that,” Ja'Marr said. “I’m starting to sound like you, too.”

She raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “You’re finally getting it. Good for you.”

Ja'Marr smiled, feeling a little proud. “I can’t help it. It just comes out now.”

She laughed, leaning against him. “I like it. You know, I’ve been trying to get you to loosen up. Guess I’m succeeding.”

He took a deep breath, his gaze softening as he glanced at her. “It’s not just that. It’s more than the words. It’s like... I don’t know, I’m just starting to see things differently. Like, I’ve always been focused on the game, on football, but now... there’s this other side of me, too. And you make me want to explore that.”

She smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Well, you don’t have to do it alone. You’ve got me.”

Their eyes met, a shared understanding passing between them. It wasn’t just the language they were picking up on—it was each other.

As the months passed, Ja'Marr found that his speech wasn’t the only thing evolving. His entire way of interacting with the world around him shifted.
