Simple Plan - Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare's Over)

The music video was directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Jensen Noen and was created with a Ukrainian cast and crew. The VFX and post-production work was also done by Ukrainian artists.

The money generated by the video’s views on YouTube will go directly to Ukrainian relief efforts through the UNICEF Ukraine Emergency Appeal. In addition, the band pledge to donate a portion of the proceeds via ticket sales from their current tour through the Simple Plan Foundation.

“When we saw the first images from the war in Ukraine, we felt so heartbroken and powerless,” Simple Plan say in a press release. “The impact on young children and families felt especially devastating and made us want to do something to help.”

Noen adds, “Since the war started, I’ve gone through a range of emotions. From depression to rage to an overwhelming sense of helplessness. I can’t describe what it’s been like to watch my home country being torn to shreds. It’s people being raped and killed, innocent children and civilians dying every day. Many of my family and friends have already been affected by the war. I’m so grateful to Simple Plan for giving me an opportunity to tell the story of what’s going on in my country. To be able to help raise awareness and money for this cause means the world to me. It feels so good to be doing something instead of just sitting around feeling helpless. To use my art to help tell the story of my people. And the fact that I got to work with a mainly Ukrainian cast and crew made this whole experience even more special. I’m grateful to Simple Plan and all of our incredible cast and crew that donated their time to this cause.”

The album consists of 10 dynamic songs that further elevate the band's stature in the heavy music sphere. The first single, the industrial-rich yet strikingly melodic “The Purge,” is paired with a visually dark cinematic video helmed by Jensen Noen. From the ominous beginning of the ‘90s-inspired title track “Godmode,” featuring Maria Brink’s enthralling primal scream, to a pitch-perfect rendition of Bjork’s 1995 hit “Army of Me,” and concluding with the emotionally charged “Everything Starts And Ends With You,” Godmode stands distinct.

In This Moment Release New Song ‘The Purge’ + Announce ‘GODMODE’ Album and 2023 Tour Dates

In This Moment have just released  their new single "THE PURGE" along with a music video directed by Jensen Noen (who has also created videos for Ice Nine Kills and Falling In Reverse). A co-headlining tour with Ice Nine Kills has also been announced.

The new track hails from the band's forthcoming new album GODMODE, their eighth, which the band just announced will arrive later this year on Oct. 27. The "Kiss of Death" tour, which kicks off on Nov. 3, will also feature special guests Avatar and New Years Day.

“We are thrilled to unveil 'THE PURGE' to everyone,” says vocalist Maria Brink. “I am so grateful for how everything flowed to bring this song to life, both sonically and visually. Kane Churko and Jensen Noen helped to create this musical & cinematic experience with us and we could not have done it without them. The underlying message of the song is to not fall too deeply into the rabbit hole, everything is about finding balance. I had a lot of emotions building within me when I approached the song for the first time and after years of holding it all in I finally got to let it out! Enjoy.”

"This song came from our time in lockdown. We all had our own personal experiences during the pandemic and we all saw the social unrest unfolding daily tearing us apart, it was such a crazy time,” says guitarist Chris Howorth. "Our band, like everything else, was stopped in its tracks. During the lockdown I was sending Maria musical ideas I was working on, and this one really resonated with her. She even said 'This is gonna be our first single’. Fast forward a couple years and all the pent up frustration and angst came pouring out in Maria’s lyrics and performance, creating this crazy visceral song.”

...og det er vi jævlig glad for.

På vei hjem i lørdagsnatten - x antall timer og like mange skuffende konsertopplevelser senere - var det deilig å tenke seg tilbake til duskregnet på uteserveringa til Gloria Flames, der et passe stort og herlig blanda publikum fikk se Stovners store sønn i godslag.

Det er dette Musikkens dag handler om. Publikum er fullt av alt slags folk, artisten er  omgjengelig og fornøyd og han tropper opp på scenen når han skal.

Kenneth Engebretsen åpner settet sitt med å gratulere en vordende brud i full utdrikningslagsmundur, før han introduserer publikum for advokaten sin, hilser på kompiser og småprater med noen av barna i publikum. Det er så deilig langt unna mye av det andre pretensiøse dritet som fant sted i går.

Under fremføringen av låtene er det derimot strictly business. Vi får en halvtime fylt av klassikere, levert på kjent Kenneth-vis -- hardt og ektefølt.                    

Særlig fremføringene av Jensen, for Groruddalen og Gule Lys treffer godt, der de to førstnevnte oppildner til ivrig publikumsdeltakelse, mens den siste fikk dama ved siden av meg til å gråte med sine sosialrealistiske tekstlinjer.

Det er en noe kort konsert vi er vitne til, men en strålende åpner (for vår del) av Musikkens dag 2017.
