Wei WuXian found his tone to be even somewhat praising of Jin ZiXuan, “Jiang Cheng, be honest with me—what do you mean? Last time you went all the way to take shijie over. You can’t actually want shijie to…?” Jiang Cheng, “It’s not impossible.” Wei WuXian, “It’s not impossible? Have you forgotten what he did in Langya? You’re telling me that it’s not impossible?” Jiang Cheng, “He’s probably regretting it.” Wei WuXian, “Who cares if he regrets it. Do we have to forgive him just because he apologized? Look at what his dad’s like. Maybe he’ll be the goddamn same in the future, killing time searching everywhere for women. Have shijie be with him? You could take it?” Jiang Cheng’s voice was frozen, “See if he dares!” After a pause, Jiang Cheng glanced at him before he continued, “But, it’s not like you have a say in whether he’s forgiven or not. Sister likes him, so what can we do?” Chapter 71 ExR Translation
Madam Yu stood up and mocked, "What do you want me to do? Like your father, you want me to hold my tongue? You really are an idiot. I've told you long ago that you'll never in your whole life be able to surpass the one sitting beside you. Not over cultivation, not over night-hunting, even shooting kites, you can't surpass him! It can't be helped. Who would change the fact that your mom is worse than another's? Worse it is, then. Your mom feels injustice for you, tells you countless times not to fool around with him, yet you are still defending him. Just how did I give birth to a son like you? "
She walked out, alone, leaving Jiang Cheng sitting there, his complexion switching between purple and pale. Jiang Yalin quietly put a dish of already-peeled lotus seeds on his table.

Jiang Wen makes the list with Let the Bullets Fly (2010).
Yalin Chi, Cheng Cheng Films: Renowned “Sixth Generation” film director Jiang Wen’s return to record-setting massive box office success after a five-year ban — and the commercial under-performance of acclaimed film The Sun Also Rises — kickstarted years of heated economic growth in the Chinese film industry....
Tumblr media
The story, set in 1920s, deliver satirical critiques on modern China’s issues, such as corruption and income disparity, with clues and references that flew under censors’ radars, but got picked up, decoded and reinterpreted by audiences nationwide. The almost unprecedented high interest in watching, rewatching, and discussing the film saw an active Chinese cinephile community taking shape. Some of the film’s lines — such as “Let the bullets fly longer” and “Earn money while standing on your feet” — have left a lasting impact on modern Chinese culture.

Jiang Cheng’s complicated feelings towards Wei Wuxian
Ok, let me go straight to the point... despite what people say Jiang Cheng never hated Wei Wuxian. Rather than hatred, JC felt betrayed and resentful towards WX. Was it because WX was the “reason” for the annihilation of the Yunmeng Sect? Was it because WX was the “reason” for the deaths of  Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan? NOPE!
WX, in fact, is innocent from all those events that people blamed him for and JC knows the truth. JC is well aware that it wasn’t WX’s fault that Yunmeng Sect was targeted, but he chose to go along with those lines because at that moment he needed to blame someone. And part of the reason for “blaming someone” was due to his mother’s resentment towards WX. We already know that JC’s mom strongly dislikes WX because he is the son of the woman her husband loved. The mom had a horrible inferiority complex that she even passed on to her son. JC’s mom strongly believed that Jiang Fengmian married her out of force and he never stop loving WX’s mom because he went as far as to look for WX and raised him as his own.
The fact that Jiang Fengmian took another’s child and raised him as his own gave JC’s mom enough reason to believe that he didn’t like his own children because JF didn’t like her. Yu Ziyuan saw herself reflected on JC, believing that WX and WX’s mom were better than them because they were able to obtain JF’s love and affection. Yu Ziyuan constantly put pressure on JC to surpass WX, and when JC couldn’t do it she would reaffirm him that WX, although he is a servant, he would always win because he has JF’s love and support. In other words, his father did not care nor love him as long as WX existed. This inferiority mentality made JC jealous of WX, because in his eyes WX was the best at everything and was even preferred by his father. However, he still loves WX because they grew up together and WX was constantly reminding him that they were equals and no matter what he would never leave his side.
So, going back to the cause of the Yunmeng Sect massacre, JC knows that WX holds a hero personality, meaning that WX would go out of his way to protect the innocent and do what's morally right (especially because that’s the motto of the clan). However, during the circumstances of the event, JC needed to vent his anger on someone and WX was the perfect target for his anger.
As for the deaths of Jiang Yalin and Jin Zixuan, I think JC’s uses them as an excuse to openly express his resentment towards WX. I’m pretty sure JC knows in his heart that WX didn’t mean for those events to happen. Because he knows who the real WX is.
From all the happened, I think what hurt JC the most was the promise that WX broke (where WX promise him that together they were going to be the Twin heroes of Yunmeng Sect, WX was going to be his right hand and he would never leave his side). However, as we all know WX broke that promise to defend the Wen Clan. JC felt betrayed because WX didn’t even hesitate to break the promise. In other words, WX didn’t think twice about leaving him to defend some “strangers.” At this moment, I think JC felt that WX didn’t care about him as much as he cares about WX. Through all this time, I think JC was able to stay in a healthy relationship with WX because he felt that WX genuinely care about him. However, JC felt betrayed when WX preferred the Wens than him.
But after all, that happened, JC still cares about WX because even after WX die he still believe that WX would back for him. However, because he is terrible with expressing himself, he doesn't know how to communicate with WX.

With a smile, Jiang Yalin wiped Wei WuXian's mouth and chin and walked happily out with the bowl in her hands. Jiang Fengmian sat down where she had been setting. Glancing at her porcelain jar, he seemed as if he wanted to taste it as well, but the bowl had already been taken away by Jiang Yalin.

I admit that everyone has different interpretations about characters, based on past experiences, personality and emotional state but the way this fandom treats female characters is really something else. Maybe it's because canon gives us away little about them, but in my opinion they are often lessened, described as two-dimensional characters. And that's a shame, because they have so much potential. ( my opinions are based on novel canon, because it's the one I am more familiar with)
For example, wen qing is described as badass girl who has strong morals, who never did anything wrong and is wwx's best friend. And this interpretation is valid! But for me doesn't give enough depth to her character. Wq is someone who is morally gray: she is a doctor, whose hands heal others, but she is also the leader of a supervisory office in Yiling during the Sunshot campaign. She says that she doesn't have nothing to do with lotus pier's massacre, because she is an healer, but she is also guilty of doing nothing to stop her uncle. She helps wwx and jc because her bother gets involved with them, and, about the golden core's transfer, she in part performs it because she is a mad scientist who can finally experiment her theories about the golden core ( but wouldn't she feel conflicted in some way? Wwx's downfall is also caused because he hasn't a golden core, and she loves wwx. Wouldn't she feel guilty about his state?). Wq loves her family so much that she begs wwx to save them! And she is accomplice of transforming her brother in a fierce corpe ( wouldn't she feel conflicted about this too? Her brother is alive in some way, but not in others. He can't enjoy food's taste, nor the bless of sleeping, nor the warm of his loved one's embrace. What life has her little brother because of her selfishness?). Wq is ready to do anything to protect them, the people she feels responsible of as their leader, until she understands how doomed they are by the cultivation world and ultimately decides to sacrifice herself and her people trying to protect the only person who gives them others precious years! She takes difficult decisions during her life, and them don't make her good or wrong, just really complex.
Another example is jiang yanli. She is described or as someone who forgives till a fault or as a badass fighter. But I think she is more complex than this. She is a big sister who has to see her brothers been emotionally and physically mistreat by their parents. She doesn't have a proper emotional support growing up, but she is her brothers emotional support/mother. She is criticized by her own mother because she is meek, because her health is so poor that she can't cultivate. She is not even viewed as extremely beautiful (the entire cultivation world says that she is lucky that jzx marries her, despite her poor qualities!). Her home is burned down by the wens when she is away, her parents died protecting their home. Her brothers fight against the same people who destroyed her home. And what she can do? She is a weak cultivator, she doesn't have the power to do anything if not wait. And then, after the war, she has again her two brothers. She marries the man she loves and tries to start an happy life. But not everything is perfect because one of her brother is seen as a criminal, the other is played down by other sect leaders. And again, what she can do in a word where reputation and gender is everything? She is not only a woman, her reputation is bad! No one respects her in the cultivation word! They mock her! And then, her husband who is trying to help her, dies by the hand of her own brother! She is mourning, she feels conflicted! She deeply loves jzx and wwx both! In fact she dies to protect wwx! Because she loves him, but she can't completely, at the moment, forgive him! She can't absolve him completely! She is extremely complicated. Jyl is someone who is extremely influenced by her poor health and the decriminalization that the cultivation world does! Her strength stays in her resilience, her good heart! She is also a rebel! Cooking is something beneath her status, but, nonetheless she does it, despite her mother's criticisms!

Like I am a little baffled by the fact that jiang yanli's sickness is just brushed off, defining it just as 'bad writing'... because is such an interesting part for me. Like, being someone who is frequently sick is hard. You have to struggle with it because you can't control it. Like, jiang yanli is an older sister who can't protect her little brothers because of her sickness! It's very much part of her tragedy! She probably wants to fight /stay with her brothers, she probably wants to make proud her mother ( who is there criticizing her), but she can't. She is trapped twice: by her illness and by her society (that mocks her because she is a weak woman not even beautiful).

One of the things I love the most about yunmeng siblings is how protective they are of each other. Always.
Madam Yu scolded, "You are like this again! If you yourself don't seek progress, then don't drag Jiang Cheng to fool around with you. You are going to be a bad influence to him!"
Wei WuXian looked startled, "I don't seek progress? Why, I am not the one with the most progress in the entire Lotus pier?"
Young people were never too patient. They wouldn't feel satisfied unless they talked back. Hearing this, an air of hostility appeared over Madam Yu's forehead. Jiang Cheng hastened, "Wei Wuxian, shut up!"
He turned to Madam Yu, "It's not that we want to shot kites in Lotus Pier but, right now, isn't it that none of us are allowed to leave? The Wen Sect assigned all of night-hunt areas to itself. Even if I want to night-hunt, there isn't anywhere for me to go. To stay at home and not go outside to provoke or fight for prey with the Wen Sect - isn't this what you yourself made clear to father? "
Chapter 50
Jc, seeing his mother hostility, hastened, trying to redirect his mother attention, remembering her that's not wwx's fault that he is fooling around, the wen sect has forbidden them everywhere, he can't practice, he is trying to be a good sect heir, just as she wanted.
"Jiang Cheng! Go get some clothes on! You look no different than a barbarian! What would people think of me if they saw you?!"
[...]
Thus, Madam Yu's next sentence, as usual, was, "Wei Ying! Do you want to die!?"
[...]
Yet, all of a sudden, someone's quit voice drifted by Madam Yu's ear, "Mom, do you want to eat some watermelon..."
Madam Yu was startled by Jiang Yalin, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. With the delay, all the boy have vanished into thin air. She was so infuriated that she tuned to Jiang Yanli and pinched her cheek, "Eat, eat, eat - all you do is eat!"
Jiang Yalin almost cried from her mother's pinching, mumbling, "Mom, A-Xian and the others were hiding here to relieve the heat and I came here on my own. Don't blame them... Do... Do you want some watermelon... I don't know who gave them to us, but it's really sweet. Eating watermelon in the summer is great for cooling down and quenching thirst. I'll cut them for you... "
Chapter 130
Jyl, seeing her mother rant, quietly takes action, offering her mother sweet watermelon because it's hot and watermelon is good for her, and she doesn't need to be angry, the guys were only chilling from the heat.
He blurted, "If she is dissatisfied, tell her to cancel this engagement! Either way, I don't care for your precious shijie. If you do, why don't you go ask her father for her hand?! Doesn't he treat you more dearly than his own son?"
The last comment made Jiang Cheng's gaze freeze. Wei WuXian was beside himself with rage, lunging with a raised fist. Although Jin Zixuan had expected the attack, he didn't expect Wei WuXian to be so fast, and the punch landed before he was done talking.
Chapter 18
At jzx's insults at both jc and jyl, wwx responded with a fist he landed before jzx was even done talking!
They love each other so fiercely! They are always ready to protect each others until their love isn't enough and they fall apart.

Jiang Yalin was the oldest child of Jiang Fengmian and Jiang cheng's older sister. Her personality was mild, with nothing too notable; her voice was smooth, with nothing too memorable. Her appearance was only above average, and her talents weren't astonishing either. Amid the girls from the other prominent clans, it was only natural that she seemed a little average. On the other hand, her fiancée, Jin ZiXuan, was the exact opposite. He was the only official child of Jin Guangshan, with outstanding looks and exceptional talents. According to common sense, with Jiang Yalin's conditions, it was true that they weren't well matched with each other. She wasn't even qualified enough to compete with the other girls. The only reason why Jiang Yalin was able to enter an engagement with Jin ZiXuan was because her mother was from the MeishanYu sect, and the MeishanYu sect was quite friendly with the sect of witch Jin ZiXuan's mother was from.
Jiang yanli's first introduction
