Cabanela's spirits are clearly high as he cheers in victory - but then again, it's difficult to find a time when the man in question doesn't seem to be in high spirits. Perhaps that's no surprise, coming from someone who's been often described as "dancing through life" - at least from the perspective of an outsider looking in.

But in reality, Cabanela is a man like any other. His doubts, flaws, and anxieties may be hard to spot, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Still, though... for one night, Cabanela thinks it wouldn't hurt to forget all that for a while - especially with the culprit of today's crime already in custody, and the success of his temporary partnership with Shi-Long Lang, which is certainly worth celebrating.

"But I must say, you're certainly as impressive as they told me. Maybe I should take a page out of this Lang Zi's book myself!"

Fujiko sighed, the long beleaguered sigh of a woman suffering. “I can’t believe I got stuck trailing this guy with you,” she said, though she was fairly sure he felt the same way. It was worse for her though. Being stuck with her wasn’t that bad, Jigen just refused to do any of the things that made being around her easier. Refused to humor her. Which was why being stuck with Jigen was misery. “I swear I’m going to kill Lupin for this.”

How to trick Lupin & Co. into falling in love:

Zenigata: tell him, show him, what he deserves. Let him know he's pretty. Love him for more than his unhealthy work ethic, for more than his family legacy. Force him to take breaks from work, care for his aching bones not so he can get back to the chase but so his body can feel at ease. Give him a hug & take away that half empty bottle of booze. Be his distraction instead & don't let him feel guilty about well deserved love.

Jigen: Give him peace. Fill the world with silence, soft touches & long glances as a new form of communication. Leave space inbetween words. Allow open ended questions to go unanswered but always, always, listen with intent when he whispers out a reply. Be patient for the days where his lips spill paragraphs. Follow up on the little things. A pain he'd mentioned a while back or the worries he scarcely speaks on. Care for them both despite his bickering not to.

Lupin: Love him as an average. Be impressed at his nack for thievery yes, but be astounded at their French cooking. Focus love not at his talent for disguises but at, how in drag, she does her makeup with near perfection. Complement the way his hands seem always warm, not always acknowledging that those digets can break into any safe worldwide.

Goemon: Praise him & ask nothing in return. Clap at his swordsmanship but whisper meaningful compliments to him alone about his hair & smile. Be gentle but never afraid. Take care with what he is proud of but reason with his stubbornness when determination hurts. Care for the wounds he's gained due to over work & love the scars across him.

Fujiko: Laugh at her jokes genuinely. Tease her about the right things the right amount. Never fail to take an opportunity to woo her in public, private, loudly, silently etc. Leave her alone. Give her space but ensure she doesn't forget by not being forgettable. Be amazed but not tripped up or too tricked. Fall in love wholly but not deeply, let her open up. Be girls together, apart, & hardly against. Love what she loves hate what she hates, introduce her to new muses.

early morning sweet nothings laced with anxiety about what is to come

She woke up earlier than him, or so she thought. She sat up in bed and let down her hair. She ran her hand through it and fluffed it out, trying to ease the ache that sleeping with a claw clip set into the back of her head. It was a bad idea, but she couldn’t find a scrunchie the night before and she just wanted to sleep. 

Lying next to her was heaven for Jigen, and watching her flip her hair around was like watching the cherubs dance. He snaked his hand up her back, his fingers crawling up her spine made her jump. As his hand settled into her hair, scratching and rubbing the back of her head with his fingertips, she relaxed into his touch. She looked down at him, their eyes meeting, and he raised his eyebrows pitifully. 

“Bad sleep?” He mused, his voice low and thick. Oh, how she loved the way his voice sounded after sleep. 

“Yeah,” she confessed. She reached down to gently brush some of his hair off of his forehead and gazed down into his pretty dark eyes. They were always hidden beneath his hat, save the little glances he would send her to let her know that he was still under there, so she lived for moments like these where she could look into them completely unobscured. 

“Aww… pretty baby, come here.” He cooed as he opened his arms to her, she gratefully crawled in and he pulled her close. “You’re beautiful.” He whispered as he kissed her head. He smoothed out her hair, guiding it to fall down her back and pool onto the sheets beneath them. “You’re beautiful and you’re all mine, baby.” 

It was a welcome reminder. He knew that from the way her hands firmly held onto his shoulders, from the way that her head was tucked into his neck, from the way he felt her lips turn into a smile against his skin, from the way her eyelashes fluttered against his jaw when her eyes crinkled the way they did when she blushed. 

“Jigen…” her gentle, tired voice trailed off as if she needed him to encourage her to continue. 

Jigen obliged. “My love, my darling… what is it?” He placed a kiss on the crown of her head, thumbing through her hair. 

“Am I still yours when you’re gone?”

Her question felt like dagger to him. He let out a long, deep sigh and pulled her closer. 

“Especially when I’m gone.”

He felt her lips turn into a small smile against the skin on his collar bone and her hands resting in the middle of his ribcage. “I miss you already.”

“I know, my love," he cooed, brushing her hair back behind her ear and placing a gentle kiss on her cheek, “but you know I will always, always come back to you.” She giggles softly as his beard tickles her cheek, the tangible evidence of his words to her lingering on her skin and in the neurons that told her brain that he was right here, right besides her.

And he always, always did come back to her.

⚖️ WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR GAME of cat and mouse, safety is just another hurtle Zenigata seems hellbent on jumping every chance he gets. He's thrown himself into the jaws of danger more times than he can count and has the scars to prove it... Pain is etched deep into his body. It cradles him.

And so does Lupin.

Frankly Zenigata hadn't known the thief could be this gentle-- or quiet, for that matter-- when their lives are anything but. Thin and thievish hands guide the sutures all the same. He doesn't remember just how long it's been since he got here, exactly; the night has already begun to blur together. It returns in fragments. In feelings. The pierce of a stray bullet, the clumsy push of his huge body being packed into a familiar yellow Fiat, of panicked voices during the hectic car ride. And now this: stitches and antiseptic, a hideout tucked out of harm's way.

He has questions of course, more than he knows what to do with, but for now the most he can muster is a low grunt-- the sound of a man who's lost any fight he has left.

I don't know! I don't write your muse! realistically speaking, even lupin's canon can't even seem to keep itself consistent with what's known and who by, so I'm not really all that fussed about how you choose to interpret this list. go with whatever feels right, and I'll play along accordingly.

so, let's get started!

PUBLIC.

He is the grandson of Arsène Lupin, phantom burglar of France.

He is the son of Lupin II, attempted founder of the Lupin Empire.

Like his predecessors, Lupin III is a master thief who targets valuable items from all across the world. He's a household name, and even has official merchandise (including the infamous plushie claw machines).

He's affiliated with what's informally known as the Lupin Gang: his 'inner circle' of friends. The current active members are Jigen Daisuke, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, and thieftress Fujiko Mine. She's more of an independent force, and is just as likely to betray Lupin and co. as she is to aid them. More members may be present, as dependent on verse and muse connections.

His eternal rival is Inspector Koichi Zenigata of the ICPO. Zenigata is the only person able to consistently get close to Lupin, and has managed to capture and detain him over one hundred times. The issue, of course, is that Lupin has been able to break out over a hundred times.

He's polyamorous and can often be found surrounded by short-term lovers whenever he's out spending his heist gains. He makes no attempt to hide this or deceive anyone: he's poly, not a cheater.

He's a polyglot, able to speak as fluently as a native regardless of where in the world he travels. Despite French and Japanese being his mother languages, he has no noticeable accent when speaking outside of them. Lupin also knows a select handful of dead and computer languages.

He's a master of disguise, able to forge documents as the need arrives and change his entire appearance at will. He can fake scars, injuries, identifying marks such as birthmarks or tattoos, and adopt the face, voice and mannerisms of anyone he pleases. His masks do have tells, however: such as not showing sweat after a period of exercise, while real skin would.

His chosen weapon is a Walther P-38, kept holstered against his chest.

There's a tongue-in-cheek saying that, for a Lupin, walls and gates and security systems simply do not exist. Many believe them able to get anywhere and everywhere, regardless of any preventative measures attempted. While this isn't entirely true, it is exceedingly difficult to keep Lupin out of somewhere, with even supposedly 'top security' buildings having been compromised more times than I care to count.

He was married to Rebecca Rossellini, Italian heiress, model, actress, and general celebrity.

He was the star of the Lupin Game online phenomenon, where he was tracked day and night by drone cameras, whose footage was live-streamed across the internet. People were encouraged to take photographs or video clips if they saw him.

SEMI-PUBLIC.

His calling cards lay out the rules of his heist. He will appear on the date and time listed, and he will leave empty-handed if he's unable to complete his theft before the end time listed on the card. The heist's no fun if there's no game involved.

Lupin doesn't kill unprovoked. That's one of the rules of his game. Taking another's life only becomes an option once they cross the line and endanger the lives of himself or his friends. Under all other circumstances, he'll always shoot to disarm first.

Not only does Lupin have copycat thieves aiming to impersonate his crimes, but this no-killing rule is one of the biggest copycat downfalls, often being the thing that gets them discovered. Thief he may be, but Lupin has a strict code of ethics that both he and Zenigata are very well acquainted with.

He has an IQ of 300, and can temporarily raise it to 301. He's incredibly intelligent, far more than he's often given credit for, but prefers to hide it behind a silly and easily underestimated persona.

His marriage to Rebecca wasn't his first, nor his last. However, the only real 'love match' was his attempt to settle down with Fujiko, while ultimately failed and lead to a separation. All other marriages are used as a means to an end, a way to get himself closer to whatever treasure he's aiming to steal.

He was the star of dark web phenomenon Happy Death Day, where people would bet on the date Lupin would die. This inevitably ended up attracting prominent assassins who would compete to kill Lupin on their predicted date, and after a particularly large confrontation, most of these competing players have been declared dead.

He's AMAB, just androgynous enough that many databases find it difficult to make a definitive decision one way or the other. As a result, this field is often left marked inconclusive.

He's bisexual, and appreciates pretty faces of all genders. His love for womanising and vocal adoration for his beloved Fujicakes just tend to overshadow the times he pursues everyone else.

SEMI-PRIVATE.

He stayed in France for the early years of his childhood and was raised within his grandfather's sprawling Paris estate. Arsène taught him the ways of Lupin family thievery from the moment he could stand, and he had already mastered several of its skills by the time he was able to write.

He attended the later years of elementary and early years of Junior high school in Tokyo, Japan. However, he left the system before graduating.

He targeted dark web drugs trafficking and money laundering giant Marco Polo in an online heist, draining their crypto wallet and making off with millions in BitMoney currency. He was also involved in the arrest of its three executives: Chuck Glay (Peekaboo), Kunal Robinson (Chap Tip) and Sonia Boutella (MooMoo).

He can pilot any vehicle, be it for land, sea or sky. It's safe to assume that he owns at least one mode of transport for each, and tends to favour cars, submarines and planes respectively.

He's been declared dead many times. One time 'Lupin' was even publicly hanged, though this was later revealed to be a clone. Lupin himself had no hand in the clone's creation.

He has chapodiphobia: a fear of octopi. This fear extends out to squid, cuttlefish and anything else under the cephalopod umbrella.

He's... somewhere under the nonbinary label. Most likely genderfluid, though he lacks the vocabulary to express this (nor does he have much desire to explore / pin himself down to any particular label).

His marriage with Fujiko ended poorly, and left a rift between them for some time. While she was the one to actually leave, a lot of their inner conflict was a result of Lupin and his discomfort at being truly transparent, even to her.

PRIVATE.

He has connections to the Grand Duchy of Cagliostro thanks to his efforts to save its ruler, Clarisse, from an unwanted marriage.

He's incapable of dreaming, lacking the subconscious needed to activate REM sleep. This void was once said to be the consciousness of an idiot or a god, though it's impossible to tell what one Lupin is.

The only marriage still standing is the one with Onabes, an art collector. He's the husband of Lupin's Miss Marie persona, making him Onabes' wife in the eyes of the law. Lupin has requested divorce several times, but Onabes is yet to sign the necessary papers.

He's got an occasional telepathic ability, though this link has only been shown between him and Fujiko, and it only seems to activate in times of life-or-death danger. Lupin's aware of this ability, and once called it the miracle of love.

He has safehouses in every conceivable corner of the globe. Some are luxurious mansions with grand estates attached. Others are rickety wooden shacks held together by hopes and dreams and prayers, with no running water and a single flickering lightbulb. All of them are owned under false names.

All gadgets are handmade, as are any smoke bombs or chemicals he uses. Lupin's a capable scientist when he wants to be, an often occupies himself by engineering new little toys to try out.

That can happen, even to… what was it she said? Powerful warriors like us.” The samurai’s face seemed to be stuck somewhere between amusement and deathly embarrassment. “We’re not… I’m not…” “Her personal dedicated bodyguard, who she still comes to for protection?” Goemon glared. “Lupin, is this you?” he accused.

What follows is nonsense 5am musings after waking up to gifsets of episode 5 of Lupin Zero. Take all of this with a grain of very tired salt.

I love the idea of Lupin/Jigen being made essentially canon as much as the next person, but there's a part of me that's a little bit saddened as well. Because part of the appeal of shipping characters in Lupin is that the canon is so queer and nebulous itself. There's no canon, there's all the canon. There's subtext everywhere if you look hard enough. You can MAKE subtext if you flip things on their heads and read them backwards.

Having this information kinda spelled out makes me feel a little, I don't know. It's 5am and Pirates of the Carribbean is rolling through my head. 'The world used to be a bigger place. - The world's the same. There's just less in it.'

I'm feeling melancholic, and while I love that the relationship has been acknowledged in canon, I'm also mourning the casual ambiguity that I had come to love with the franchise.

𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.   The friends I've made and the memories we've created. There are quite a handful of people who knew me almost my entire rping years, which is wild to think about.

𝐫𝐩 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐬 / 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬.  One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says they want to rp but ignores every single person who comes to them to rp. In other words, they only wanted to rp with selective people and not saying it directly. Another pet peeve is how people will look down on you if you don't have a great layout / graphics or format / write fancy.

𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐟𝐟, 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭, 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐦𝐮𝐭. I prefer fluff and angst. While I don't mind smut, I don't write it often. So, it's rare to see me go into any details about it other than HCs. Even then, HCs are usually discussed with my shipping partners. Otherwise, I go all out for fluff and angst.

𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬. Both. While I can answer memes like it is nothing, I also love plotting. The thing is about me and plotting is that I need some kind of dynamic in mind to have some juicy and fleshed-out plots. Otherwise, we'll be going into a whole circle of what we want or constantly throwing ideas and not going anywhere. It's why I am going to enforce the fact that - once I start plotting - I will ask what kind of dynamic you want or have in mind. It helps a lot to narrow down the ideas.

𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬. Both. I do switch between both, especially when it comes to my writing partner. At the same time, once I get an idea of something - even if it is vague - you bet I am writing a lot. Sure, it's not nearly as much as some will go on this site or anywhere else, but it's still pretty lengthy.

𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞.  Whenever I get the motivation, which is literally anytime. Morning, afternoon, etc. I don't have a set time. Sure, I have a schedule I try to input but it ends up being all over the place in the end.

We're both stubborn and passionate?? I think I also pick up on being big softies. While it takes some time for him to show how he is a softie, it takes no time for me. We're both sweethearts though. That's literally about it. I am far from being a leader and will probably be bad at it.

Naoto has to dress up like Jigen from Lupin III now

Many popular shows or fashionable trends among teens never caught Naoto's interest. The same could be said when Naoto was a small child, too. Much of her childhood was used in preparation to take on the family name once she grew old enough, as well as the limited amount of quality time spent with her parents. Memories are rather hazy from their bonding experiences as Naoto grew older, but one never faded.

She remembered the early Saturday morning wake-up times, scrambling out of bed while Grandpa prepared breakfast just in time for everyone to gather around the living room TV set. One of her favorite cartoons came on schedule, and deserved her undivided attention.

Putting together the individual pieces came as no challenge. The pants with a tightened belt, a white dress shirt adorned with a forest green tie tucked at the end, with an equally matching-colored jacket to complete the initial get-up. No sweat. However, it wasn't a true Daisuke Jigen outfit without the broad-brimmed fedora. A comfortable substitution to her usual newsboy cap.

"It's a rather...nice fit." It was very similar to her high school uniform, yet her appearance held a more profound air. This was someone known through fiction, known to many as a great marksman and loyal partner.

For a very brief, fleeting moment...there may have been a smile reflected back in the mirror.
