There are very few “mainstream” films which openly declare their hero a communist, and have him make a speech about class interest after restoring an evicted family to their home, just saying.

'Andrew Scott was born in Dublin in 1977 and grew up in the suburb of Churchtown. He studied in the private Jesuit-run school, Gonzaga, and went on to study drama in Trinity, but left before graduating to take a job with the Abbey Theatre.
His acting career started early with roles in ads, most famously as the jogging kid in the ad for Flahavan's porridge.
His first film role came in 1996 in the film Korea and that was followed quickly by roles in Saving Private Ryan and Nora and later by Steven Spielberg's Band of Brothers and the BBC drama The Hour.
His career is defined by variety and he keeps fans guessing by switching between film and television and theatre. Scott was most recently seen on Irish screens in John Butler's film The Stag and his next role will be as the priest, Father Seamus, in director Ken Loach's Cannes Film Festival entry Jimmy's Hall.
It will tell the story of the Irish political activist Jimmy Gralton, who was deported from Ireland in the 1930s by Éamon de Valera for alleged communist activity.
Scott currently lives in London.'

Jimmy Gralton
This poem is about a Leitrim man Now remembered by us all Because they made a film And they called it Jimmy’s Hall
He left school at an early age And worked hard for small pay In Scotland and America But he returned one day
The Tans had burned the local hall All mad drunk having fun But Jimmy said ‘Don’t Worry Sure I’ll build another one’
He got the blocks and timber And the neighbours gave a hand And built the Pearse Connolly hall Out on his father’s hand
The priests were all so angry Because they had no control And damned him from the altar Saying he will lose his soul
The people were all terrified And of one priest had great fear who said every horse that worked there Would die within a year
Then they had Jimmy arrested In Cobh in County Cork And deported him from Ireland And sent him off to New York
So be wary of politicians Like those men in Fianna Fail Who deported Jimmy Gralton Just because he built a hall
A monument to the memory of the Leitrim Socialist, Jimmy Gralton, on the site of Gralton’s “Pearse Connolly Hall” at Effrinagh, Co. Leitrim. It was unveiled on Saturday 3rd of September 2016 by President Michael D Higgins.  Jimmy Gralton was deported from Leitrim without trial in 1933. His crime was only to have set up a public hall in County Leitrim, a venue for education, community events and musical both traditional and featuring the jazz that Gralton had brought back from America.  Gralton, a socialist, aroused fears and intolerance.  Jimmy Graltons life inspired a recent film by Ken Loach named “Jimmy’s Hall” https://www.leitrimireland.com/listings/monument-to-jimmy-gralton/

Graham Nash talks new music, politics and CSN&Y before Boston, Northampton shows
Tumblr media
“I also talk to the audience a lot because if you’re a fan of music but you don’t write music, the art of songwriting is quite mysterious. People want to know, ‘What were you thinking when you wrote ‘Immigration Man, or ‘Just a Song Before I Go,’ or ‘Wasted on the Way?’ I tell them, and they love it.”
You said that you’ve written over 250 songs. Many people trying to write music find it difficult to think of something to write about. As a songwriter for over 50 years, what’s your trick?
“Breathing. Being alive. Taking in what’s going on in the world. Looking around 360 degrees to see what’s going on. There is so much to write about in this world, and it’s incredible that some people that wrote many great songs don’t write anymore. I can’t quite explain that.”
“ The Hollies’ publishing company, Gralton, signed the young Elton John early in his career. How did you first meet him, known then as Reggie Dwight?
“I met Reggie Dwight when the Everly Brothers were doing an album called Two Yanks in England. Phil Everly called me and asked if The Hollies had any songs that we hadn’t recorded, and we did. We had about 12, so we went down to the hotel where they were staying and played them these songs, and they wanted to do seven of them. We went into the studio with the Everly Brothers and a couple of session musicians. There was Reggie Dwight on piano, Jimmy Page on guitar and John Paul Jones on bass.”
The organizer of Woodstock attempted to put the festival on again for its 50th anniversary, but failed. Do you think that festival could ever be recreated?
“No, it can’t be recreated. It couldn’t even be recreated when it was 25 years old, and CSNY did that show. You can’t replicate the times — it’s a very different country than it was 50 years ago. Although Michael Lang tried his very best, I think it was an effort to make money rather than applaud the spirit of the original Woodstock.”

Jimmy's Hall
Jimmy’s Hall
BBB.5 (out of 5) True story of Jimmy Gralton (Barry Ward), who returns to Ireland in 1932 after ten years of exile in America, a dedicated socialist with no religious sentiment; in an Ireland whose civil war has been won by a British-backed, Catholic church-approved government, this makes him an immediate target for enemies.  His appearance on Emerald shores combined with his reopening his famed…
