NBA star Kyrie Irving, Tyler Perry, Fantasia, and other Black celebrities are helping a 93-year-old South Carolina woman who is fighting to keep her land in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

For nearly 30 years, Josephine Wright has lived at her Hilton head property, a 1.8-acre piece of land that's belonged to her family since shortly after the Civil War, per the Atlanta Black Star.

A GoFundMe account was started by Wright's granddaughter, Charise Graves, as developers are now threatening to take her land. Wright is facing a lawsuit over property line issues filed by Bailey Point Investment LLC, a development company constructing a 147-unit neighborhood that would intrude on her land.

Wright’s family believes the lawsuit is intended to coerce her into selling her home, and they are raising money to combat the legal fees. The family started with an initial goal of raising $250,000 but with the help of Irving, who donated $40,000, it's been raised to $350,000.

Perry also spoke out about Wright's situation, saying she "has a village behind her." His public statements sparked more support from the likes of Fantasia, actress Gabrielle Dennis, former Food Network star Gina Neely, gospel singer Tina Campbell, and rapper Meek Mill.

Irving still holds the largest donation to the GoFundMe. As of Tuesday (July 18), over $245,000 had been raised.

Soft, everything felt soft and very …. heavy?

Why is everything white?

You grab your face feeling for anything different…. no, nothing wrong there.

But why does your back feel heavy.

You twist your head and are met with a pair of wings on your back. White, beautiful, large wings.

“What… what is this?” You stand up from your spot on the (fluffy?) ground.

You turn you head around and see a line of …people… yes people with wings.

Walking towards the end of the line you tap a woman’s shoulder, and she turns around.

“Um, I’m sorry but what exactly is going on?”

“Oh, dear haven’t you figured it out yet?” She says looking at you glumly.

“No, No I haven’t figured anything out!” You feel yourself start to shake. “One moment I was in bed and now I’m here!” You feel like crying.

The woman starts to rub your arms, “Its okay, your okay,” she looks around for a moment. “I just got here myself, but I do believe we are at the gates of heaven.”

The gates of heaven? Did I die? How did I die? Heavens real?!

You feel a sense of panic, you feel your breath running out of you. You place a hand on your chest.

“Deep breaths…. breath in……. breath out…that’s right everythings fine. You don’t have a thing to worry about anymore.” She tells you in a soothing voice.

Your breathing comes back at a normal pace. “Thank you, miss. I just don’t understand how I got here.”

“It’s all right, I was a bit shocked myself, with the wings and finally seeing heaven. My names Josephine Wright.”

“My names Y/n Hartfelt.”

Josephine smiles at you, “Can’t believe there’s actually a heaven, I mean you hear about it my never really expect to see it!”

You nod, your mind still not accepting the fact that you are in fact dead.

How am I dead?

Josephine continues to ramble on about her life, her children she hopes to see, wondering if her dogs, Brownie and Gravy, are in heaven too.

You cross your arms together slightly shuffling. Then you hear it.

Static.

It’s overcoming your ears, and you turn around to find the source.

“Hey, hey everything all right?”

You look back towards her, “Didn’t you hear that?”

“Hear what?”

“The static.”

Josephine looks around, “No, I haven’t heard a thing. Maybe it’s your ears still getting used to this place. I’m still getting use to how bright it is here.”

Maybe it is, but the static….

It’s getting louder.

“Hey, do you have anyone you’re waiting for?”

“Huh?”

“I mean I told you who I’m expecting to see but you haven’t told me much about you.”

You take a moment, “My husband… but I don’t think he’ll be here.” You mumble the last part, placing your hands over your heart.

“Hmm?”

“No, I just... my husband, he… he died before me.”

“Oh, don’t worry dear, he might just be waiting for your return beyond those gates.”

The static is louder than before.

“I think I’m going to walk around a bit…”

“Oh, I can save your spot while you walk, the line doesn’t look like it’ll get any shorter, specially since that little guy in the front keeps singing.”

“Yes... thank you, Josephine.”

You decided to walk towards the static.

With each step you take the static grows incredibly louder. You can hardly see Josephine anymore.

Static, why is there static in heaven?

You find a hole in the ground, but the hole is filled with red. Nothing like the bright shining light in heaven. It seems to be where the static is emitting from.

You kneel near the hole placing your hands around the edges.

“What is this?”

You stick your head in the hole, and it feels…. hot. There seems to be a whole city down there with darker colors compared to heaven’s light.

The static… it sends shivers through your body.

“It’s coming from down here…”

You push yourself closer into the hole.

“The static is louder down here.”

You push yourself more until... you fall.

You feel your wings flap rapidly.

You scream but the ground is still getting closer, covering your face with your hands.

Then you feel the ground on your feet.

Your breathing is uneven, and you feel your body for an injuries.

“Okay, okay, I’m okay, I’m alive…...well dead alive…. alive dead?” You shake your head.

The static now courses through your body sounding louder than ever before.

It doesn’t seem that far from where you landed.

You stick your head out from the alleyway, and you see …. creatures.

There seems to be two lizards bashing each other’s heads, there a fox fellow smashing glass, gunshots filling the air, and... and is that a blimp with a cannon?!

You back into the alley, what is this place. Wait… if up there was heaven does that mean… that… this is hell?

You still hear the static and feel the need to get there. Something is pulling towards the sound.

Your feet lead you through the twists and turns of the alleyway. It seems never ending.

It seems to be getting darker, you feel yourself shaking.

Why do I feel nervous?

“NO, NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE! I’LL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT!! FUCK!! DON’T KILL ME PLE—”

Blood splatters on your dress.

Dead. Someone’s dead.

Someone died in front of you, but you stand still.

They’re dead and you’re just standing.

Run, why don’t you RUN????

The static stills you.

“Well, I didn’t know I had an observer….” The voice sounds like a radio, it sounds… familiar.

You can’t see who’s talking but the static, you know it’s coming from the voice.

“Did you come for a free show? Hmmmm…” The voice is getting closer.

The voice comes from beneath you seemingly from the darkness below.

This being, it towers over you.

“Its not polite to not make eye contact with someone who is speaking to you.” He tilts your chin up to face him.

The static stops.

You both look into each other’s eyes.

The being has a monocle, a pair of horns on his dark red hair with fluffy ears.

Even with all the changes, he’s still the man you fell in love with.

“Alastor… is that you?” you quietly ask.

He places his hands on your face, “Y/n?” The radio tone in his voice stops as he rubs his thumb along your cheek.

“Yes… it’s me my love.” You take one of his hands holding your cheeks and kiss it softly.

“What, what are you doing here? How are you here?”

“I heard static noises from up there. I decided to follow the sound and…. it led me to you.” You look back up at your loving husband.

“Why did you… why did you kill them? Why did you leave me?” You begin to sob, your hands forming fist, and you begin to bash them into his chest.

“I never felt more lonely in my life, when you died if felt like I was being split into two.”

Alastor doesn’t stop you from hitting him.

“Why!?”

He starts to rub your back feeling your wings, caressing them softly.

Alastor faces you back towards him, wiping your tears.

“Dearest there are many things you don’t know about me. But one thing that I’ve never hid from you is my love.”

Your crying stops.

“You shouldn’t be down here and even so you shouldn’t be dead so soon.”

You don’t say anything.

He pulls you closer. “I love you more than anything.”

You wrap your arms around him, “I missed you so much.”

Alastor kisses your forehead. “Now my dear, let’s go home.”

Smiling you push yourself closer to his face and with understanding your actions Alastor moves forward.

A kiss so sweet death can no longer break you apart ever again.

The Amps - Maxwell's, Hoboken, New Jersey, July 1, 1995

I was watching this recent video of the Breeders in Big Sur a couple weeks back — and however great it is (it's great!), it got me thinking about the Amps, the one-and-done mid-90s Kim Deal project. Kind of a weird moment for Kim. She had climbed to the top of the Alternative Nation after the release of Last Splash, opening for Nirvana, playing Lollapalooza, hitting the late-night talk shows, etc. But by 1995, she was blowing it all up and starting again. Kinda. Here's the rundown from a very 1990s Spin magazine cover story written by Charles Aaron way back when. Those were different times, kids!

Kind of sweet, kind of pathetic. That’s how Deal has viewed her life following Last Splash‘s surprising success, propelled by the Top 40 single “Cannonball,” one of the most unlikely mosh notes ever penned. What was meant to be a well-deserved rest for the band after opening Nirvana’s last national tour, headlining gigs with Luscious Jackson, and joining Lollapalooza during the summer of ’94, became a boring winter exile for Kim in her childhood home of Huber Heights, the planned community outside Dayton that thrived in the ’50s with the opening of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where Kim’s dad worked as a physicist. Instead of catching up on laundry and bad TV, she learned to play drums, patched together a batch of songs, and agreed to help produce the next album by her drinking buddies Guided By Voices (of which her fiance and SPIN Senior Contributing Writer Jim Greer is now a member).

Meanwhile, the other Breeders were plenty busy. Jim Macpherson finally spent some time with his kids and renovated a new house. Bassist Josephine Wiggs fell in love (with Luscious Jackson drummer Kate Schellenbach) and out of the closet (courtesy of a November ’94 Advocate story titled “Luscious Lesbians”), eventually moving from London to New York to be near Schellenbach. Kelley Deal made the most publicized move, out of Kim’s place and into a nearby house where she was arrested in November for receiving an Emery Worldwide package containing heroin. Her trial is set for July. Considering the circumstances, Kim’s desire to record a solo album made more than a little sense, for everybody concerned.

Pacer, that "solo record," hit shelves in the fall of '95 and — compared to Last Splash, anyway — was fairly low-profile. But it's a killer album, and somewhat forgotten these days, I think? If Kim had just called it a Breeders record, people might be more aware, I don't know. Anyway! The Amps toured a bit in '95 (I saw 'em open for Sonic Youth that October), and here's a nice audience tape of the band at Maxwell's that summer, playing a bunch from their then-unreleased debut, alongside a rambunctious closing cover of the Tasties' "Like A Briar." Take a trip down to Tipp City ...

Constance is known to be quiet women. Due to her past as an orphan and being shunned by friends, Constance became accustomed to being alone. Her trait faded when she joined The Flying Squad, where she was invited to have lunch with her colleagues while she was used to eating alone.

Because of her past for being black sheep, she has trust issues and like to against authority. She’s so idealistic that led to debates with Chief Wright when her first time in joined the flying squad. She did have a bitter view of the world, but she didn't act cold. She covered it up with professionalism, competence, and the ability to work with other officers. The cases she handled and the people she met taught her the meaning of life. At least, there are still good people who appreciate her behind the cruel world.

Since she was a child, Constance grew up with a million of dreams. Her father always taught her to be optimist and never giving up on dreaming even though they were from the working class. She proved that she worked hard to save money, attend courses, for go to the police academy. Constance shattered the argument that the working class can be anything.

In addition, Constance has a great sense of empathy. Being an orphan and having been bullied in her childhood, she cannot stand to see others suffer. This is disturbs her in working a detective sometimes.

Background story :

Born into a working-class family, little Constance lived with her father, who worked as a construction worker. Her mother passed away during childbirth. Constance became obsessed with becoming a police officer when she saw some police had better live than her when she works to shining the shoes. Her father always taught her optimism and never giving up, despite coming from a working-class background.

Unfortunately, her father died in a fire in their house when she was 5 years old. This horrific event traumatized Constance, especially when she accidentally saw her father's charred body. She developed a strong aversion to eating meat because of it.

There are no family members willing to take care of her so the local police placed Constance in a catholic orphanage in New Haven. She was in a state of deep grief and refused to interact with anyone. Then, she met her first friend, Josephine. Josephine was cheerful and had many friends. She comforted Constance and invited her to play.

After being visited by the police, Constance remembered her dream again. She started working part-time at a textile factory in New Haven. She saved money for her police education and other needs. Unfortunately, this made Josephine jealous of Constance's increasing income. Josephine stole Constance's money and got caught. With her manipulative abilities, Josephine framed Constance as the villain, turning all the people in the orphanage against her. Constance became a public enemy since that.

Constance was bullied by everyone. She was often beaten by her friends who got manipulated by Josephine. There was a time when Constance couldn't take it anymore and fought back against Josephine, easily defeating her and making her nose bleed. This resulted in Constance being punished by the nurturing nuns.

From then on, Constance was frequently punished by the nurturing nuns, always being falsely accused by Josephine. Her back was repeatedly beaten with a stick until it bled and left scars that lasted into adulthood. There was no one who stands with her. Almost no one.

Until one day, she couldn't take it anymore. She decided to attempt suicide by jumping from a building. She was inspired by a girl from the orphanage who had died due to similar act some time ago. When she attempted it one night, her action was stopped by a nun, Aunt Schulz. Constance rebelled and bit Aunt Schulz's arm. She no longer respected anyone, as she felt that it was pointless since she was always blamed even when she didn't do anything. But instead of punishing her, Aunt Schulz embraced her tightly. Surrendering, Constance could only cry loudly in her embrace. Aunt Schulz promised to free Constance from bullying and find her opportunities to reach her dreams.

The next day, Constance's room was moved to the building where the babies were kept. She was free, no longer with the friends who tormented her. She only needed to work to calm the babies there. Soon, Aunt Schulz found an opportunity to earn money again. Constance worked as a nanny at Lady Georgina Uppertown's house. She was thrilled to be able to observe and learn the etiquette courses held there.

Her life in the orphanage continued until she was 17 years old. She left the orphanage and enrolled in the police academy. Of course, Constance faced ridicule because she was a woman and came from a working-class background but she was strong to face it. This bullying was nothing compared to what she experienced in the orphanage. Additionally, she was also deeply shocked that she had to deal with corpses in the police field, where she had trauma related to it. She fought hard to overcome her trauma and succeeded.

She graduated from the academy at the age of 19 and started working as a police officer. At the age of 25, she was selected to be one of the members of the Concordian Flying Squad, an elite police unit specially formed to handle serious cases with selected police officers.

Relationship to other characters : *It's talking about the relationship and some HC from me so it will be different from the game canon*

Isaac Bontemps :

Their relationship is quite good as colleagues. Constance is supportive of him. She comforts Isaac when he is sad to see Marla making “something” with another man due to her financial problems. She also helps treat Isaac's trauma with horses.

Maddie O’Malley :

Like Isaac, their relationship is quite good as colleagues. However, Constance gets annoyed when she sees Maddie with absinthe in her hand. At the end of the main event, Constance visits Maddie's house, comforts Maddie and her baby after Charles' death.

Bernadine Rochester :

If asked who Constance's closest friend is, the answer would be Bernadine. Their meeting began with thwarting Bernadine's suicide attempt. Constance saw that Bernadine was suffering in the same way. Their lives were shattered after being left by their parents (both parents and uncle) and often being slandered, making them a public enemy of evil people. Constance was determined to protect Bernadine and help her destroy the Rochester family. In the end, Bernadine had to die by Horatio to protect her lover, Arthur. Her death made Constance depressed because she lost her only friend who accepted her as she was, unlike her friends at the orphanage. Since then, Constance started wearing a black skirt. She didn't want her grief to be visible because of her job.

Arthur Wright :

Initially, their relationship was like cats and dogs. Constance was idealistic and Chief Wright was a little bit pragmatic leader. As the case ended, their relationship improved. They learned from each other, respected each other, and were willing to work together. Sometimes Chief Wright asking to Constance about his depression due to the loss of her lover, Bernadine. They both are losing Bernadine. Their relationship as colleague continued until Chief Wright's term ended. He became a senator for the Concordia district. Seven years later, Arthur began to recover from his depression and suddenly fell in love with Constance. The tragedy makes his hobby of socializing with the upper class is getting faded away, and he start fell in love with a girl who had a working-class background. He saw Constance as a hardworking and empathetic girl. Constance's lack of confidence and trust issues made it difficult for her to approach him, but she eventually succeeded. Constance realized the depth of Arthur's love and realized that she deserved to be loved. They finally got married a year later (yes, it was forced by his parent because he’s getting older).

Viola Pemberton :

Constance was very angry to find out that Viola had betrayed them in order to be recognized as a member of the Rochester family. As an orphan, she was furious to see Viola caring more about her biological father who had raped her mother more than her stepfather who loved her heartfeltly. In the end, she had to make peace for the sake of professionalism in their work. Over time, their relationship improved.

Justin Lawson :

Initially, their relationship was good. Justin admired Constance for her bravery in criticizing Chief Wright's pragmatic attitude. Justin and Constance were both idealistic and justice-oriented. However, in the end, Constance was horrified to see Justin Lawson's ambition, his hypocrisy, and she starts to hate him.

Marla de Paradis :

They are quite close. Constance was amazed by Marla's caring spirit in adopting some kids. After the main events of the game, they made donations to several orphanages.

Fun facts :

The story of Constance has a connection with Cinderella. She was given an expensive Cinderella storybook by her father and it created a connection with Cinderella. After becoming an orphan, Constance was placed in an orphanage, which is equated with Cinderella's stepfamily as her new family after her father death. Constance was treated poorly by almost everyone in the orphanage, just like Cinderella was mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. Then Constance fought back against Josephine, symbolizing Cinderella's courage to attend the party clearly disliked by her stepfamily. When Constance was at the height of despair and finally tried to commit suicide, her attempt was successfully stopped by Aunt Schulz, symbolized by the fairy godmother that saved Cinderella from her despair. Aunt Schulz helped her find connections to achieve her dream of becoming a police officer, like the fairy godmother who created the glass slipper that created connections and privileges to achieve Cinderella's dream of a better life.

She always wears gloves to recovered the scars from whip she got when she was in the orphanage.

She fights using street-fight. Apart from Josephine, she also fought with Fiona Flanangan which caused serious injuries to both of them

Although she was raised in a Catholic orphanage, she is Protestant but she is not so religious. She witnessed puritans ravaging her orphanage and was repeatedly beaten by the Catholic nuns in the orphanage. She's not anti-religion, just not very religious.

She loves cooking

She always advising Evie to organize her files. She little bit doesn't like some messy

Usually girls in orphanages are taught household skills. Constance had this ability so she was assigned to go undercover as a maid at Rochester Castle.

Her hobby is reading novels. When she feels sad or uncomfortable, she starts reading novels. This hobby developed when she was little. Her father gave her a Cinderella book at Christmas. She also likes reading some non-fiction books and has shown an interest in the world of criminology since college. She has published several books based on her experiences as a detective.

Constance once cried when arresting a man from the working class. His daughter ran to him and cried over her father's arrest. Remember of her father, Constance ran out of the crowd and cried in the back. She was reprimanded by Isaac because she had to act professionally as a law enforcement officer.

She’s good in financial management. As people from the working class, she manages finances to survive and achieve her dreams.

Rather than jewelry, she would rather buy a beautiful gown

She dislikes socializing with the upper class because she knows she will definitely be looked down upon by them due to her working-class background.

Even so, Constance really likes dancing, especially with her lover (ex-)Chief Wright. She felt like a princess overnight and felt the romantic love she never felt before. Of course she learned to dance before.

She speaks a little Irish Gaelic and makes Maddie jealous sometimes. She got it when she was in an orphanage where there were lots of Irish children. She also grumbles in Irish Gaelic after arguing with Chief Wright *yes I change it. Being fluent in Irish Gaelic from the orphanage is not makes sense I think*

After the game event, Constance enrolled at Concordia University in the Criminology department with a scholarship from Lady Highmore for her services in saving Concordia. Several years after her graduation, she pursued further studies to obtain a master's and doctoral degree, eventually becoming a professor in the Criminology department at Concordia University.

Her undergraduate thesis focused on the Rochester scandals. The thesis received a high grade.

After becoming chief of the Flying Squad, in 1929 she decided to leave the police and focused to be a professor at Concordia University.

She died in 1962 at the age of 92.

Trivia :

I was inspired by Judy Hopps (Zootopia), Johan Seong (Lookism), and ofc Cinderella.

I am also inspired by one of my family members. They often tell stories of their childhood suffering as an orphan, experiencing loneliness and discrimination. It truly inspires me, both for myself and for shaping the character of Constance.

I was also influenced by K-drama The Glory, The Mask Girl and K-Movie The Handmaiden lol *I’m so obsessed with them*

In the development, she got many changes. Initially, Constance was a cheerful and enthusiastic girl. As time went on, without realizing it, I made Constance into a Byronic character.

Where did the name Constance come from? Yeah actually this is a bit ridiculous. I am obsessed with a German Journalist, Constantin Schreiber and usually when I like someone, I also like their name. And… I got the Constance name. Moreover, the Constance name is suits with her nature, steadfast and constant.

Headlined by Kyrie Irving, a group of Black celebrities that includes Tyler Perry, Fantasia, and others has gotten a 93-year-old South Carolina woman’s GoFundMe page closer to her goal of raising $350,000 — recently raised from $250,000 — in her efforts to fight off developers she says are threatening her land in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The top donation to the fundraiser organized for the 93-year-old is $40,000 given by NBA superstar Kyrie Irving. The GoFundMe account was started to help the Wright family with legal aid after a lawsuit was filed against Wright by Bailey Point Investment LLC. The development company is constructing a 147-unit neighborhood, which would abut Wright’s Johnsonville Road parcel.

The developer is suing Wright after a series of disputes over property line issues, but Wright’s family says the litigation is intended to coerce her into selling her home. Wright’s granddaughter, Charise Graves, started the GoFundMe page to combat the legal fees. The page currently has more than $242,000 in donations as of Monday, and the Dallas Mavericks guard was one of the first celebs to join the fight on Wright’s behalf.

The story of the woman’s dispute made national headlines in recent weeks, and other Black celebrities have stepped up to help Wright in her fight against the company.

Tyler Perry recently spoke out and said that Wright “has a village behind her.” His statement helped Wright to garner support from singer Fantasia, actress Gabrielle Dennis, former Food Network star Gina Neely, gospel singer Tina Campbell, and rapper Meek Mill.

This is not the first time Irving has given back to people who are in need. Last year, he totaled $500,000 in GoFundMe donations. He gave back to causes that ranged from helping Palestinian families rebuild their Gaza homes from Israeli attacks to helping a Howard student pay for tuition.

Irving does not usually comment on his donations and has not commented on his latest donation. The $40,000 he gave Wright and her family is the largest they have received. The family has tried to reach out to thank Irving but received no response.

Meet the Hewitt Family

As promised, I am going to introduce you to the members of the Hewitt family. You'll notice that all three children have names that are associated with songbirds.

EDWARD HEWITT (JASON ISAACS): Edward is the father of Linnet, Robyn and Callum. Sometime after his first wife ended their marriage and abandoned their children, he met and fell in love with Josephine Ellis. They married, deciding to encourage all three children to develop a love for music. An accomplished pianist, Edward is a music teacher at the Royal Academy of Music.

JOSEPHINE ELLIS-HEWITT (CLAIRE FORLANI): Josephine is the second wife of Edward Hewitt, and the stepmother of his three children. Though she loves all of her step-children, her relationship with Robyn is strained. She is a retired concert violinist.

LINNET HEWITT-WILDMAN (JENNA COLEMAN): The eldest child of Edward and Catherine Hewitt, and the step-daughter of Josephine Ellis-Hewitt. She is currently separated from her husband, Robert Wildman. She is the mother of their young daughter, Sophie. Raised to appreciate music, her instrument of choice is the flute.

ROBYN HEWITT (EMILIA CLARKE): Robyn is the beautiful interior designer who catches Jake's eye and captures his heart. Raised in London, England, Robyn is the middle child of Edward Hewitt and Catherine Chambers. She is the stepdaughter of Josephine Ellis-Hewitt, and the sister of Linnet and Callum. For a reason unknown to Robyn and her siblings, Catherine abandoned her husband and family when the children were young.

CALLUM HEWITT (Isaac Hempstead Wright): The youngest child, and only son, of Edward and Catherine Hewitt. Though his parents tried to encourage him to love and appreciate music, he eventually gave up on playing the piano. He is attending the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), having decided to pursue a career as an actor.
