Okay so I think I've figured out Seonwoo's problem. I went back to re-watch and make note of who called whom and who everyone had been on dates with and realised I had completely forgotten what happened with Seonwoo in the first episode.

Seonwoo was crushing on Junsung!!

They did the washing up together after dinner on the first night. There was some playful banter and SW started crushing on JS.

SW's first phone call was to JS. JS answered in front of Sungho but wouldn't tell him who called. SW got 3 calls that night but JS wasn't one of them.

SW stated his type is someone who takes the lead and makes the first move. JS very much is this type and stated he has dated everyone he's ever been interested in (our boy is persistent). SW likes this. SW wants this. (Yoonghee also fits this type but SW said from night 1 that his only feelings towards YH were pity after receiving his phone call).

SW starts to get his pride hurt knowing he's popular in the house but not with JS. SH picked SW for the first proper date. Before the date, people start speculating on how much time JS and SH spend in the bedroom with the door closed. SW finds a reason to interrupt them. I assumed that this was about SW hanging out with SH but after the re-watch, it's clearly about SW's interest in JS.

SW makes a comment that he has someone he's interested in but he will try three times and if they don't reciprocate then he'll move on. (Very practical especially when you remember that he only came out about a week before the show started) JS never responded to any of SW's flirting or the phone call. So SW took that as his sign and gave up. So now he's untethered, and reassessing his options. There are three openly dominant men in the house (SW's type). They are: Junsung who isn't interested, Minsung who SW views as a friend, and Yoonghee who SW isn't attracted to. His options are fairly shit so it seems he's sort of given up. He persists in going on a date with SH because their date got cancelled and he sees it as the polite thing to do even though he spends the date telling SH how he's not his type and seems very surprised during Jenga when SH says he wants another date with him.

But then he seems to decide to fight for JS. He sits down to discuss things with JS and is surprised to find out JS is set on SH and sees SW as a rival. He brings this up a few times afterwards, in what I first thought was just a dick move, but now realise was SW's way of trying to restart the playful banter from day one or at least get some of JS' attention. He severely underestimates how serious JS is about SH.

At the bbq JS gives his coat to SH. SW then goes and gets a spare coat that he left on the couch by the door. He catches JS in the doorway and offers him the "conveniently available" coat. JS straight up rejected it then told the camera: I gave my coat to someone I like, I'm not then going to wear another man's coat. And proceeded to freeze his balls off as a matter of chivalry.

In conclusion Seonwoo coming across as an ass because he has no chance with the one guy he actually likes and he knows it. His pride has been hurt and now he's just going through the motions. He hasn't mentioned it since the first day, not even in the private interview bits, which tells me he really likes this guy. Personally I think he's not saying it is because he knows he has no chance and is trying to deal with damage control of how he's presented on the show and I don't blame him. I would do the same, honestly.

I was all set to hate him as a player or a heartless prick but now I just feel sorry for him because I, like everyone else, am hoping for 2sung pairing.

i wanted to make a post on honorifics in korean for those who don’t know much or any korean so here goes 

only covering the ones i’ve heard/seen in the show also prefacing this by saying i’ve been studying korean for 2 years and my main cultural context is what i’ve seen in dramas and various reality content, please don't hesitate to correct me if i have said anything wrong/incorrectly

님 (nim) - 님 is basically the most formal of the three. going in order of closeness it’s the least familiar and often used for strangers - it's what the house members first used when referring to others in the house and is still use by some. think 사장님 (sajangnim) which is what you would call the owner of an establishment like a shop or a cafe

씨 (ssi/shi) - 씨 is sometimes used in place of 님 but it’s a little bit less formal. is often used if you don’t know someone’s age (in the context of the show it’s what quite a few members of the house called each other before they knew where they were in age order). korea has a large culture around age and age based honorifics. for example if someone was a year or more older than you - and you were close enough - you would call them with a more familiar honorific, see below

형 (hyung) - 형 is used by guys to refer to other guys one year or more older than them. although i’m not sure if it’ll change now that the korean age system has been done away with, if you are born in the same year you don’t need to use these honorifics that rely on age. for example sungho and minsung would probably use 씨 or just their name plus 아 (ah) to refer to each other, depending on how close they are

all this to say it’s REALLY surprising to me sungho doesn’t use any honorifics for junsung and again it could be cultural context i’m missing but from what i’ve seen from various medias it isn’t common for people who are close or even dating to drop honorifics completely. so it’s either something i just don’t know about, they're really Really close, or he’s just like that lmao

His Man 2, Episode 9 Discussion

His Man 2 episode 9 really cemented my want for Jeongwook to exit the show.

The amount of times that people misunderstand him, in the guise of Jeongwook being the one that misunderstood, is unreal. I understand that Hyungjin prefers to clarify and settle things, but he could have easily left it at ‘we had a good time as friends’, but the fact that he essentially told Jeongwook that the date was a waste of time and that he wouldn’t have done that if he knew he had the ability to turn down dates…. When he’s the one that went to Jeongwook first after being rejected by Minsung… And the fact that he’s the one that asked Jeongwook to sing for him…

I honestly think that Jeongwook just needed a reason to go see his dog and didn’t think much of just inviting Hyungjin over. He knew he wasn’t Hyungjin’s choice and just accepted the date because they were the two that were stuck without a date. I’m assuming cultural differences play a role in the misunderstanding, because it felt like it wasn’t that big of a deal for Jeongwook to bring him over (even if he wanted to do with Yonghee.) It honestly felt like Jeongwook was just appreciative of him as a friend and they had a good day. It didn’t seem like Jeongwook felt any sparks either aside than being appreciated, but now that feeling probably got muddied because of how Hyungjin approached the subject.

But man, Hyungjin could have ensured that there was no misunderstanding with more tact. Like Sungho said, this was a conversation that he needed to have directly with Jeongwook, not first consulting Junsung and him. The intentions of ensuring that he wasn’t leading Jeongwook on was great, but the execution was horrid. Especially when he wasn’t even sure that Jeongwook had misunderstood.

And Jeongwook said it himself, he doesn’t care that they don’t have feelings towards each other, Hyungjin just should have gone about it a different way. He wants to learn about each person and so he invited him to his home just because that’s who he is. And hearing Hyungjin say that if he had known that he didn’t have to go on a date, he wouldn’t have gone with Jeongwook (when he’s the one that invited him!!!), that definitely sounds like he’s saying that the date he spent with Jeongwook was a waste of time. Oof, I completely understand why Jeongwook is hurt.

This episode really explains why Jeongwook looked so somber on his video on IG when the first episode aired.

I still hold the same opinion as last week. I hope Jeongwook finds happiness in his life and is treated how he deserves to be. He’s been getting hit with so many low blows this whole season without any reason that I sincerely want him to find the success, fulfillment, and love that he wants.

- everyone losing it over yoonghee's blatant Love At First Sight expression, including yoonghee

There are English subs on the cc options now. So fun to watch them react to Seonwoo calling Junsung, and Sungho calling Seonwoo. The comments had me cracking up. Seonwoo was very upfront about liking Junsung and it's so nice to see that they're all friends now.

I'm here to lodge a complaint. But first some context. I don't watch reality tv, like at all, ever. Specially dating shows. It's been years since I watch any reality tv. I never liked it and some of it, I really believe is harmful to society. So basically the only rule in what dictates what I watch is - NO reality shows. Now comes the complaint. You are responsible for me breaking this rule. I saw your gifs of His Man 2 and gave in. I thought, let me just watch an episode because I'm not gonna like it anyway. And then I binged the whole thing and finished it today. So I hope you're happy with yourself. End of complaint. (I was rooting for Jun Sung since the beginning. I love that he didn't get distracted by others. I love his conviction. And every time he didn't get called my heart broke for him. I adore them together.) So, all this, just to say, thanks for the gifs because I really liked watching it and I really needed a serotonin boost yesterday.

Haha, thanks for the ask, but I'm guessing that you probably meant to send this to someone else because I've never made any gifs for His Man 2. While I have been enjoying His Man 2 immensely, I only made ONE photo set for this show.

To be honest, I generally try to stay away from reality shows myself but found myself sucked into His Man and the show's fandom because of how big of a deal a queer dating show out of Korea was/is. I enjoyed the first season just fine but all the dumb takes (by people who probably aren't even queer) on twitter/youtube/instagram kind of soured the whole experience for me.

At first, I considered passing on season 2, but ended up getting hooked by the show once again. This time round, I stayed far far away from the twitter/youtube fandom and only kind of engaged with the His Man 2 fandom here on tumblr, which has made the show watching experience much more enjoyable. Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed His Man 2 and so happy for Junsung and Sungho!
