late to the party but…

i love steven spielberg. he is nothing short of a genius at everything he does and produces, however, we got beef.

maybe the cut kiss in twisters was “too cliche” but man i eat cliches for every meal of the day. i wholeheartedly agree with those of you saying that we should have the option to buy a version where the kiss is shown. it’s the closure the audience deserves. and yes, i fully understand the logic that the scene was cut b/c it would have taken away from the meaning of kate’s story, of “returning Kate to the thing that she loves, which is storm chasing. So that's what you have at the end of the movie. They share this thing, and her passion is reinvigorated, and her sense of home is reinvigorated.” (glen powell). however, i feel like she got that. as far as i can observe, throughout the movie we clearly see her falling back in love with chasing. from her backing out of one tornado, to her running out in a tornado she may not return from, it was made obvious to me that she had reconnected with this part of her. that was the goal for the movie, and it was expertly communicated. we saw her get that closure when she was the calm in the storm, i.e. when she laid down her life to save everyone, not just tyler, by running out into the twister.

another note, while yes i agree with daisy edgar-jones on the statement “I think there's something really wonderful about it feeling like there's a continuation. This isn't the end of their story. They're united by their shared passion for something.” i have a feeling that they still would have ended it with them chasing a storm, which adds the continuation that she and the producers were looking for.

needless to say, in my unprofessional opinion, the kiss scene should be included in at least a version of the film. something to cater to someone like me, who believes that a kiss between kate and tyler would only add to the film, and not take away from the meaning that they excellently laid out.

side note: the music from this movie is unbelievably good

If Glen Powell didn’t get to kiss Miles Teller after he saved his life at the end of Top Gun Maverick then he doesn’t get to kiss Daisy Edgar-Jones at the end of Twisters. The universe balances things out.

I really adore the casually prioritized importance of friendships in the new Twisters movie. Like obviously there were sparks of romance that i thoroughly enjoyed but the point is that that was never the point. The way that Javi and Kate took care of each other and looked out for each other even when they were fighting. The way the whole tornado wranglers crew acted like family and welcomed Kate right in. The way Tyler was genuinely interested in getting to know Kate and working together with her. There was no big fight between Javi and Tyler over Kate or anybody else. Kate spent the whole movie processing a lot of trauma and was able to be supported by the friends surrounding her instead of having all of her interactions stopped up with an intense budding romance. I just really love it when friendship and people are the most important things.
