Random twst thought
So you know how Yuu is from another world right? I know canonically magic affects them, but what if
What if Yuu isn't affected by most magic?
Like, the stronger ones still work on them, but they have high magic res so there aren't many that do affect them
Since they're from another world, their biology is bound to be different in some way. Otherwise that'll be a bit too convenient imo.
What if magic doesn't even really affect them at all? Maybe the nature of magic is actually a harmless force to them? Or maybe magic is like a virus of some sort that twst people are just kind of weak against. This would be a really funny scenario to explore honestly.
OR!
Alternatively, since I made a virus comparison, what if Yuu is like, reaaally weak against magic? They're not someone from twst, and a whole new type of energy that their body isn't used to might have a really big impact on them and easily harm them (if you want to go the angst route).
Or it might cause a severe allergic reaction because even if it's harmless, like healing magic (which I assume either replaces cells or speeds up their growth), even if it's supposed to help you, the fact that it's a foreign thing the human body isn't used to might make the body attack the new cells instead, and rather than heal the wound, it makes it worse.
Both are fun thought to entertain and since I have two Yuu OCs I might make them both have this muehehehehe

part 4/5 or maybe 6 of Isengard Situation Gauntlet :) tw for some generally self-destructive behavior
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
You heard the great explosions that rocked the Ring two days ago, and you had known even before Gun Ain stalked past you, furious and spitting curses, what it must be. You had half-fallen on the great stairs of Orthanc in sudden relief and in fear of the sudden, solitary void that yawned before you. None remain here that may be used against you. You have no friends left.
“The Wizard wants you,” Gun Ain says coldly now, her hand flexing on the hilt of her blade as if she is still considering if she desires a name or your death more. You recall the same sword raised against you at Fail-á-Khro. You stand slowly, weary from too much worry and too little rest, and begin the long climb up the stairs of the tower.
“He told me nothing,” you say when Saruman demands answers. “I knew nothing of his escape.” And because you are alone now, you add: “Even your willing servants are incompetent. How you ever thought you could take Rohan-”
“Silence,” he commands coldly, and your teeth click shut, but you lift your chin defiantly. You are not terribly practiced in hand-signs, but you know a few, and these you demonstrate for the Wizard until he commands your hands be still.
You hope Lothrandir might be proud of you, even for so small a revolt.
“Perhaps you have a point,” Saruman says, and your heart sinks at the silk-tone of his voice, that one that precedes only painful things. “Greater tools may hasten the fall of the Horse-lords. Go down to the armories and then to the workshops and the library. Prepare yourself for battle- as you would have if your stones still answered to you. When you are done, join Barashal and Ufdrágh and await marching orders. You may speak,” he adds as an afterthought, and sends you away.
Prepare for battle… marching orders… Unease churns in your stomach, but Lothrandir is gone beyond the easy reach of the White Hand now and the grip of your oath has not loosened and so you must obey.
The great orrery in the library of Isengard is a thing of great beauty. You stand and lose yourself in the smooth motions of its arms, watching it spin round and round and round until a stranger grabs your shoulder.
Your runecraft may be rendered useless, but the instinct to reach for it is not so quickly buried. The words are on your lips and your empty hands reach out, but no lightning illuminates the library and no thunder rumbles in the tower- but something in your chest strains, and you can feel the strength go out of you as it had when you called the thunderclap empty-handed in the high chamber of Orthanc. You stagger into the heavy rail that surrounds the empty space beneath the suspended model, and the acolyte in the robes of Isengard looks at you askance.
“Who are you,” he asks, “and what are you doing here?”
“I am here on the Wizard’s orders,” you answer truthfully. There is no great urge to do so as there would be if Saruman had asked, but every little fight against even such lesser things saps your strength. “To prepare.” The acolyte nods easily.
“Ah, for the march! Most of us are being kept within the Ring, but a few have been called to join the orcs. What a thing to miss,” he says enviously. “But then, I am not sure how much good one magician can really do in fighting on this sort of scale. Not the most efficient use of our talents, probably. Best of luck, though!” You watch him quizzically, but he seems more than content enough to lose himself in the halls of the library.
“We can do enough,” you say to yourself. You have not seen great battles on the scale of old songs, but you have been enough to turn the tide yourself before. You look up at the orrery until your vision blurs again. You blink it back into focus and heave a great sigh.
You are robed as one of the tower acolytes when you join the gatekeepers of Isengard, your own clothes too torn and worn to serve you in battle. A heavy pouch of smooth stones hangs from your hip and the blood-stained iron pokes from the top, and you find you feel almost like yourself again. Almost.
Part of you curses the urge to obey in spirit as well as letter, the subtle nudging the back of your mind that says take the good stone and prepare your stones and these robes are sturdy- they will survive battle better than those ones. But it soothes you to sit and engrave in careful lines the tale of lightning and of thunder and of storm, a familiar and almost ritual thing. The great trolls that guard the gates are not much for conversation, but neither do they pay you any real mind, and so you wait.
And wait.
The sun sets and rises and sets again, and you wait. Nothing was said to you of sleep. Some part of your mind says that you were told to wait, and so wait you must, and sleep is no part of the directive. Another says that’s quite stupid, and will leave you entirely useless if you really are to be sent to battle, and a third says well… maybe that is no bad thing. Your eyes are gritty and dry when Saruman comes himself to the gatehouse in the dark hours before dawn and gazes down the valley.
“He will come earlier than I expected,” the Wizard says musingly. “No matter.” He turns to you at last and you can practically feel his exasperation. “Spiteful one,” he mutters. “Report to Morflak. Follow him into battle. Ensure the death of the Prince of Rohan, and of any who stand in your way.” You blink owlishly at him, his words only slowly entering your mind. Saruman shakes his head. “And stop in the alchemists’ workshop for a vial of laegnen. You may use your stones once you pass the Pillar of the Hand and no nearer the Ring.” He goes away muttering, and you rise to do as you are bed. Your head swims and your legs tremble, and you realize belatedly that you have hardly eaten or taken water either in your long wait. At least the gatehouse barracks are stirred enough in preparation for this new scheme of the Wizard’s that none care when you slip some fresher food from the shelves and secret some of it in the voluminous sleeves of the acolyte robes.
The alchemist in the workshop is scrambling to organize great vats of something oily and foul-smelling, but she takes one look at you and hands you two vials of something opaque and icy blue. “One for now, and the other in about six hours,” she says brusquely. “You will regret it, but it will keep you awake.” You eye the vials distrustfully, but the noise is growing in the halls of Isengard and you must hurry if you are to meet Morflak. You down one of the vials, fully expecting something disgusting, but it's nearly tasteless and just a little sweet. You can feel its effects almost immediately though, a sharp jolt to your heart and a flash of almost-clarity. You hurry out the gate and cross the river to the east where Morflak’s command is gathering in the dimness, and you have no idea at all what it is that’s making your hands tremble.

a study in stones!
for a while in my life now i’ve been heavily interested in gemstones, and minerals; i love the idea of creating gem/s/o/nas for characters, and applying different things based on their traits! but i’ve wanted to do this in a way that introduces the stones while also analyzing the characters and their strengths.
((i should also mention you may see similarities to others’ posts (like @bluemoonfantasiesiii !) because after reading them, i was motivated to write this, finally.))
so because she needs some love right now, i want to start this with a character i love: izuna nobel
Tumblr media
izuna + rhodochrosite
mineral data:
Mohs hardness: anywhere between 3.5 - 4
Rhodochrosite is an often times pink, or red (sometimes even grey or brown) manganese mineral, which was first found in Romania in low-temp deposits. Banded ore can be found in Argentina, which has named this stone its national gem! It can be seen with vitreous luster, making it appear glassy, like quartz.
This gem is not easy to cut because it is soft and brittle, meaning its very rarely found in faceted jewelry, like a diamond.
name meaning:
Rhodochrosite is a Greek name, despite the mineral’s origins. It comes from the words rhodos, and khros, meaning ‘rose colored’. It can also be called the Stone of the Compassionate Heart, the Love Stone, or Rosa del Inca.
spiritual uses:
Pink stones are ones of unconditional love (rose quartz, spinel, etc) regardless, but rhodochrosite in particular is one of the strongest. It helps the heart and soul and helps us reach inner peace, and learning to embrace it.
Its a pure embodiment of selflessness and selfless love, and gives the person the strength to identify trauma, deeply buried feelings, and move on by finding new ways to cope with said trauma. It is a stone for personal action/will, self forgiveness, understanding, and compassion, as the nicknames imply.
relation to Izuna Nobel:
Izuna’s name can also be spelled as Iduna in English, which is a Norse name coming from the Goddess Idunn. She is the keeper of apples of immortality, and in some cases even related to fertility. Iduna as a name can commonly mean loving one, while Idunn can mean rejuvenating one.
Izuna is a very patient and kind person, which can be found in her relationships with other characters. She is open and trusting, regarding her own feelings and others’. In contrast with Shuuhei, she is not hateful towards vampires because she believes they can be trustworthy and good at heart; because of this, she is seen trying to help Shuuhei towards a better path, rather than one of revenge and hate. She understands his trauma and past, but her personality is one of gentle patience. Patience is one of the Holy Virtues, with the Deadly Sin being Wrath.
At her core, Izuna believes one cannot fight fire with fire. She is a character who wants peace above all, and wants to bring this out of her friends and comrades. She helped Shuuhei find a brighter path in his darkness, and helped him find his humanity, which was hidden by blind rage and unresolved trauma due to his father’s death.
She is extremely intelligent, but due to her own pure heart and trusting personality, she unknowingly gave C3 the power to further oppress vampires and subclass. She developed a number of stun-guns and weapons that harness sunlight or magic, and they were being used beneath her nose. Upon discovering this, she becomes incredibly saddened. She blames Ray’s injury on herself and her foolish creations, because she was told they were going to be used in different, humane ways. She is quick to alert the subclass of the weapons, and help them recover; even going so far as to build Ray a new arm after they make their escape from the collapsing C3.
Her contract with Wrath is a major piece of development for Izuna. She holds much self doubt and regret, and seems to blame herself for Shuuhei’s self-destructive path due to her position in C3. However, because of her personality and strength, as well as Wrath’s encouragement and faith in her, she turns this into a chance for her to help him find inner peace.
Izuna’s display of patience, unconditional love, and trust can also be seen again in her bond with Inner Wrath, who threatens her and challenges her to fight. This can be a direct nod to Shuuhei’s downfall, as well as showing Wrath and her’s morals. Even after Inner Wrath strips her, both mentally and physically, telling her to show her ‘true self’ and succumb to her rage, she chooses to dance with them. This soothes the demon and they reach an understanding. During this scene, Inner Wrath cuts her hair; she finishes this action and offers it as a contract item. Cutting one’s hair in such a drastic sense can often be a sign of great change and emotional development, moving on from the past and learning how to cope.
Izuna’s Major Arcana tarot is The Star, which symbolizes hope for the future and being in tune with feelings, spirituality, and the universe.
my personal thoughts, or TL;DR:
a big reason i came to love izuna nobel so much is due to her strength and personal humanity. she is a great example of a character who wishes to see the better in everyone, and even the darkest of situations. she is selfless and loving, and encourages her friends and loved ones to find peace, and the strength to move on in life; because the world never stops turning, and we need to find it in ourselves to carry on. rhodochrosite is a perfect embodiment of that, which is why i chose to align her with this stone.

The Regions of Astren
Land masses not contained within official Regions are either uninhabited, unclaimed, or not organized enough to be officially recognized as “civilized”.
Regions are more differentiated by their industry than their racial breakdown, though some races (especially those of the Influx) are more common in different regions than others, and will be noted.  Humans are everywhere.
A “City” is the center of trade and governance of a Region.
A “Town” is a population center large enough to have trade, more than one temple or church, and a Bank of Astren location.
There are other small towns, hamlets, and villages not marked on this map or detailed below that do not meet those criteria.
The Island of Haven Haven is the religious center of Astren, on the basis that it was thought best to keep all the god-botherers in one place in case of divine intervention.  The main church or temple to every god resides here, and all cleric, paladin, and monastic orders have their final ordinations here, before being sent out into the wider world.  The Master Vault of the Bank of Astren is also located here, guarded and backed by the might of all gods.
City:  Sanctuary Towns:  Officially none, though the landscape is dotted with monasteries, convents, conclaves, etc. Population:  Mixed, Celestial
THE WESTERN CONTINENT  The most settled of the lands of Astren, and birthplace of most of her races. Shaanti Kasthal
A region of vast plains and gentle mountains, Shaanti Kasthal is the animal husbandry capitol of Astren.  While it is common that most places across Astren have their own dairy animals or livestock, it is nothing compared to the herds Shaanti Kasthal, and, thanks to modern transportation and preservation, the rest of the world benefits.  They are also famous for their non-food animals, as well.  Draft animals and riding mounts from here are prized all over Astren for their increased speed and endurance.
City:  Kythira Towns:  Wargen (western island)                 Orcrun (western end of highway, seaport)                 Luna Bay (northern seaport) Population:  Orcs, Theriomorphs, Elves, Halflings, Gnomes
The Gilded Crescent The breadbasket of Astren, the Gilded Crescent grows most of the grains and fruits for the rest of the world.  The Pana valley is also Astren’s most prolific wine country.  Given the need for transporting goods, the Gilded Crescent is also home to many shipwrights.  Pana itself is also home to the Astren Court, a governing body with representatives from all Regions that helps keeps peace and regulate trade between the Regions.  This Region’s population and land was most affected, save the Mountains themselves, by the eruption at the heart of the Obsidian Mountains, reducing the arable land in the region by a third.
City:  Pana Towns:  Arkney (southwestern seaport)                Bluefield (western lake town)                Barmwich (northwestern seaport)                Haime (western crossroads)                Kirya (northeastern seaport)                Fion (southeastern seaport) Population:  Elves, Halflings, Gnomes
The Obsidian Mountains Due to their treacherous nature, with sheer cliffs, hidden crevasses, and obdurate stone, with the exception of a few small quarries, the Obsidian Mountains were sparsely populated until recently.  After the eruption of Mount Obzidon, the large, central volcano of the region, things have changed somewhat.  The lava flows spreading through the base of the mountains and the extending area of blight into the Gilded Crescent has expanded the borders of this Region to include a handful towns.  Also, needing a place suited to their needs, the Demons, Infernals, etc., constructed a new city at the pinnacle of Mount Obzidon, built into, and even spanning, its caldera.  Any traders, stone masons, or budding Warlocks desiring to visit this city best come equipped with fire protection.
City:  Galboreth Towns:  Tregaron (western gateway into mountains, seaport)                Aramoor (northern fishing town) Population:  Demons, Devils, Daemons, Elementals, Tieflings, Mixed
Insomnia A land of perpetual twilight, the Region of Insomnia is home to the denizens of Astren that prefer the cover of night.  The Drow, Vampires, and all manner of undead make their homes here.  Necromancers learn and hone their skills here, under a watchful gaze.  Tombs are strictly guarded and only those that have been donated are officially allowed to be used.  As such, most citizens of Astren have their family crypts waiting for them on one of the Funereal Isles.  Due to the lack of light, all plant life grown here is done so with enchantments or is of a kind that is already suited to dark environs, and, as such, Insomnia is the leading producer of mushroom, fungi, and other such items useful for food or potions, as well as, perhaps surprisingly hardwood.  Insomnia also maintains official control of the Great Lakes, making it the largest source of fresh water fish.
City:  Nightvale Towns:  Necropolis-On-Sea (northwestern seaport, gateway to Funereal Isles)                Shady Grove (western forestry town)                Angler’s Rest (southern Fishing town)                Shadow’s Fall (eastern land bridge to the rest of the continent) Population:  Drow, Vampires, Undead, Tieflings
The Hollowed Hills Technically too large to really be hills, although all actually adore an admirable attempt at alliteration, this mountainous Region is home to the most productive metal and gem mines known.  This is also the Region of industry and invention, birthplace of many modern conveniences.  Miners, Smiths, Tinkers, Arcanists, Engineers, and Jewelcrafters abound.  As such, the home offices for the Artisan Guilds can all be found here.
City:  Khro Kadrel Towns:  Harath (western gateway town)                Wathol (northern seaport)                Mugdor (north-central crossroads)                Wuglim (eastern seaport) Population:  Dwarves, Gnomes, Orcs, Drow
THE EASTERN CONTINENT A land healing after the devastation.
The Shattered Isles The scattered remains of half of a continent, this area is all that is left of two Regions from the destruction resulting from the failed attempt to halt the Great Sealing.  Formerly home to hundreds of thousands, now it is mostly uninhabited.  Home now to pirates, smugglers, random bursts of twisted energies left over from the conflagration, and a handful of people clinging to what’s left of their homelands.
Arcadia Recovering from the conflagration, as well as trying to house the refugees from the rest of the continent while also dealing with random spikes of discharging energy, Arcadia is a Region in chaos, but also ripe for research.  Currently overseen from the city of Iona floating in Arcadia Bay.  Literally floating, as in several feet over the water, Iona is the arcane capitol of Astren and is home to the world’s premier magic school, Blackwell Academy.  The Region as a whole is littered with magic users of all stripes, from wizards and sorcerers studying the strange energies or honing their craft, to druids attempting to heal the lands.
City:  Iona Towns:  Doonatel (western seaport)                Aeredale (eastern seaport) Population:  Elementals, Mixed
Tír na nÓg Formerly the forestry and fishing Region known as Sylvanar, the area’s inhabitants were evicted and the land claimed by the Fey trapped on Astren on the grounds that it “had our name on it”.  The Astren Court got involved, the Fey and the former residents made a deal, war was avoided, and the Region was renamed “Tír na nÓg”.  Not much is known about the interior of Tír na nÓg beyond the name of their city, as some Fey enchantment prevents the details from remaining in mortal memory.  Mostly, the Fey keep to themselves, but do a roaring trade in fine jewelry, home furnishings, textiles, and fashion.
City:  New Avalon Towns:  Unknown Population:  Fey, Faeries, Pixies, Sylphs, Elementals
