Kiryu Kazuma. One of the greatest and most attractive characters ever thought up. He can fight at peak strength, take out enemies with heat moves, and best of all, he's red colored and knows how to handle the Fellas. Speaking of Fellas, the Yakuza universe might also be classified as "Hot Dude Heaven" because there's such a mess of very beautiful and tough men that it will make you love the franchise even more! And since Valentine's Day is around the corner, I've been inspired to make a top 10 list of the most beautiful male yakuza characters. Grab yourself a snack and a glass of staminan X, and try not to reach through the screen because HERE WE GO!

10: Try this question on for size. Who chases and fights Kiryu all the time and wields a powerful tanto? Why it's Majima Goro of course! Though more of a cutie than a hottie, you can't deny the fact that he’s still attractive. Two things that make him attractive are the fact that he wears snake skin jacket, and when have you ever seen an eyepatch on somebodies left eye? I haven't! So once again, Majima Goro is lovely; that is until he goes mad dog and starts cutting stuff with his tanto.

Who's at number 9? It's this 6th chairman from tojo clan. Daigo, from Yakuza 2. He got a message saying that Tojo Clan was under attack by the opposite clan Omi Alliance. He doesn't do much except get shot in the chest and drink alcohol. The real reason he lands at the #9 is that he becomes Shinada Tatsuo’s sweetheart, something Shinada needed for a long while.

Numero Ocho. Kiryu Kazuma’s mother, Kashiwagi. Hes attractive and the size of an average human mother. What really surprises me about him is that the ex-detective, Koichi Adachi, falls in love with him. Kinda silly, don't you think? He’s another character that doesn't do much, but in Yakuza 7, He helps Ichiban Kasuga have a place to stay along with his friends.

What number's next? Seven, of course. Yoshitaka Mine from Yakuza 3. People always root for the good guys, but sometimes, the bad guys steal the show.His mathematic IQ is equal to Sera. He also happens to be the smartest member of Tojo Clan. I wonder why he isn't the chairman. Like Ryuji Goda and Nishiki, his specialty is dying. With a stunning laugh and soulless eyes, Mine will rock your socks. If only we could see him take wing.

Numero Six. Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza 7. Named after the number one, Ichiban is the son of Masumi Arakawa. He’s a newer character that hardly does a thing except beg his brother to stop being so violently mysgonisic. He also traps himself inside a box so that he could get a jump on lower ranked Liumang. When you're the son of a person in the killer Arakawa gang, you need to look your best and Ichiban delivers perfectly. That's why he’s #6.

Number #1, #2, #3, #4, #5! Ah-Ah-Ahhh! Saejima Taiga from Yakuza 5. How could you go wrong with a guy that looks like this? He can fight nearly as good as Kiryu and he went from being a Prisoner to being a Top Tojo Clan executive. Next to Majima he looks more collected than the other characters. Who could top someone who has a bald ass head?

This fella standing at number 4: Ryuji Goda. One word: TITS. How would you like to have that cup size? I mean Ryuji could play around in the Himalayas for hours and he would be perfectly fine! Also, his blonde hair makes him look like an American. I really like the fact that he has a relationship with the Jingweong agent Joon-Gi Han. The combination of this gay couple makes these two a reliable couple. But what lands Ryuji in the #4 spot is that his attitudes is apparently different from the other males.

Next up is #3. What's better than having a Male with Huge Tits? How about a Male with Huge Tits and Ass? Shinada Tatsuo, another Kiryu Saga has that feature. He’s Active, knows exactly what to do as a Nightlife Writer, and even fought Amon once. He’s also the guy of Daigo's dreams. Heh, lucky him. His younger self in the spin-off: The Wandering Dragon is just downright hot! Just look at them big tiddies! Now we're talkin'!

1, 2, button my shoe! Kiryu Kazuma. There's a lot to say about this character. He’s the heir to the Kazama Family, Yakuza’s first official protagonist, the only character that used to say slurs, brave and athletic, the most kind character, and is like a father to Haruka. In the Sixth installment of the series, The Song of Life, one antagonist, the sexy Joon-Gi Han constantly tries to woo Kiryu, but doesn't succeed because... he fucking dies! The Dragon is also a semi-perfect example of an excellent protagonist, although there were a couple of times when he really snapped and acted like a lunatic; in the early installments, that is. But overall, Kiryu Kazuma really stands out amongst the slew of males not just because he’s Yakuza’s first official protagonist, or because he’s the only one who show his ass three times, but because in the comics, he grew very perky boobs, and married Majima in the future, becoming the 5th Chairman.

So, you've seen a Yakuza Chairman, a baseball star, two gorgeous Ex-Yakuza, and even a Dragon! Who could possibly top those kinds of Males? Well, get ready folks; this is the #1 hottest Yakuza Male character. Yu Nanba. If anybody denies it, how dare you? This man can summon pigeons, he’s as strong as a paper bag, and is a manloser, seducing other characters into getting what he wants. Instead of having one love interest, he has two! Ichiban and Tianyou Zhao. Being a homeless man, his only interested in one object set; Alcohol, especially the Legendary Malt. There actually have been situations where Nanba’s cock and balls has been exposed, but it eventually got censored. What a price to pay. I think the best part about this beauty is that he wears three different outfits unlike the other male characters. And who wouldn't want to Sleep at anytime, be strong as a fetus, and flirt with any male, anytime, anywhere. These three traits make Yu Nanba triumph over all of the Yakuza malws. My hat goes off to you Sega Team Japan. You oughta be proud.

How would Majima react if he found out his partner was more violent than him? Ex, they're a 'shoot first ask questions later' type, have no problems beating people to actual death, etc. Bc in Y3 when Mine presents Kanda's head to Kiryu in a briefcase, it almost seems like Majima himself was kinda disturbed, but obviously didn't want to show it. Makes me curious how he'd react if someone he was close to or God forbid loved turned out to have extremely violent tendencies like that...

Hmmm so this really put me in a bit of a dilemma because I have conflicting ideas about how Majima might react, but I think it would mostly depend on what time in his life he meets them. I’m gonna start at post-Y0 to Y1 Majima. This is the era in which he’s characterized as truly “mad”. Unpredictable, quick-tempered and ruthless. He fucked up his chance at a family, he’s been living for almost two decades as Shimano’s attack dog while also cultivating obsessive tendencies, he’s... well he’s not in a good space, mentally. So to have a partner who not only partakes in the violence, but seems to have no issue taking it all the way to murder? Theoretically, Majima has got principles and a moral compass but by this point their guidance is hazy at best... I’m inclined to say that a violent partner would push him off the deep end too. He would know it’s wrong and do it anyway because it’s just another form of masochism. If this is his chance to fall even lower, then... why the hell not? A toxic relationship, all in all. Now as you pointed out, later Majima (Y2, Y3 and beyond) seems more distraught by murder than you'd initially expect. He’s mellowed out a bit over the years. I mean, he’s still aggressive, but not senselessly so. Thus with a partner who doesn’t have these hesitations.... well I guess he’d be kinda numb to it. He doesn’t approve of their violent streak, but knows that he’d be a huge hypocrite if he tried to “calm them down”. His legendary reputation as a vicious yakuza aside, Majima was also the guy willing to waste 18 men at the ripe age of barely 20. Has he really changed since then? It would be a big internal struggle for him, I think. Some kind of cognitive dissonance, where he accepts it, but also doesn’t. And while I don’t want to say he’d love them less for it, he’d still keep his guard up around them. Which really isn’t something you want to do with a partner, is it? Someone you hope you could be vulnerable to... Since I’ve been replaying some Y0 cutscenes recently, this ask made me reflect a bit on the two people in Majima’s life who actually have this remorseless murderer trait: Shimano and Nishitani. I think watching Majima’s interactions with them could offer a clue. Biliken comments that some enemies could’ve become friends under different circumstances, but... is that really accurate? Although Majima holds some amount of respect for Shimano and admiration for Nishitani, being around them still means always being on his guard. Nishitani is ultimately a positive force in his life because he inspires him to break free of his cage, but if Majima hadn’t been trapped when he met him, would he actually look up to a guy this crazy and murderous? He knows what consequences usually come from being close to someone like that... torture, a gouged out eye and many psychological scars. Anyway, this is a tangent, but I guess what I want to say in a nutshell is: Majima would be wary. A relationship with an even more violent person would be dysfunctional at best and toxic at worst.

Who doesn’t love Saejima? Enormous, literal, blank-faced himbo.  Actually, let me talk about that for a second. Because, like, Saejima isn’t malicious by any means, but he actually has the greyest sense of morality I’ve seen in any of the protags. Like, you’ve got your Kiryu and Akiyama types, people who judge goodness by how it affects the people they love. In general they believe in being kind and understanding towards others, but they will bend or even break the rules if something happens to the people they love. They’re good people in the normal ways, the ways we expect. And there’s people following the rules and there’s people playing to their own motives. 

But Saejima, Saejima is different. He has... a sense of honor, a sense of duty, but at the same time doesn’t know when to stop. He believes in following orders and obeying his word, but isn’t empathetic, he’s not thinking about the consequences or how his actions affect others. Which is really wild in a protag. Again, he’s not cruel, but he can crush everything in his path if he’s decided that he has to do something. He’s not really capable of complex moral calls and has to turn to others for help. And that’s fascinating, especially when you remember he’s sworn to Majima. Majima who has the most hyper-sensitive morality of anyone in the series. Majima’s moral code is ironclad and he thinks decisions through. He understands cost and consequence intimately, that’s why he experiences guilt so strongly and will not perform actions that don’t jive with him. Saejima can be walked into a moral trap, quite literally, because he doesn’t know any better. If he’s told to do something, he’ll just go do it without thinking about what it means. Majima would never let shit like that happen to him and you could never walk Majima into a trap. Think about it, compare the manipulation gymnastics of game 0 and the ensuing fall out to the simplicity of game 4. The smartest people in the series could Just Barely retain hold on Majima and if Majima had been with Saejima, like he was supposed to be, you know Majima would have seen what was happening and left. 

And I just want to talk about that, that Saejima doesn’t see those things and can’t make those decisions. He’s a big, dumb weapon and we’re all very lucky that Majima got hold of him before anyone else did. I shudder to think what Saejima could have been if he hadn’t had Majima helping him make decisions and teaching him right from wrong. 

ship with: Baba Shigeki. Y’know how I said I love it when people upend their entire life over someone? Mmmmmmm. Baba is not quite as nutsville as Mine, but fuck. That moment Baba turns a gun on Saejima at last and just... can’t. That moment Saejima tells him to shoot him. That moment Baba’s screaming because he doesn’t want to understand why he can’t just shoot Saejima and complete his job. Saejima’s Hail Mary “Because we’re kyodai!” and the LOOK on Baba’s face! Fuck man. 

I really love their dynamic, I do. I love that Saejima is this blank slate who doesn’t think badly of anyone and so sincerely welcomed Baba with open arms, all his feelings about Baba are naive and legitimate and Baba can’t fucking handle it. Like, he hates that Saejima’s too stupid to realize what a threat Baba is. And yet, Baba knows that even if Saejima knew, he wouldn’t feel any differently. And that’s terrible. That’s terrible to know you would be accepted. Especially for Baba, who can never have real friends, who can never be trusted, who can’t count on anyone but himself. He looks at Saejima and has to sob because Saejima is this chance to be something else, this chance he never knew he wanted until it was here. And Saejima offers it, unthinkingly, unquestioningly, heedless of the consequences. That’s gutting. Baba’s a life ruiner, he doesn’t deserve to be trusted, he doesn’t deserve to be given a chance, and yet... And that breaks him. I think that’s fucking beautiful. One kind word, again, and people break wide open. And suddenly Baba would give his entire life for Saejima and will die if anything happens to him. Fuck yes, friends, fuck yes.

brotp: Majima! Majima Majima Majima! Kyodai til fucking death! Saejima is the beginning of what makes Majima Majima. Without Saejima, without having a little brother to care for, without having a partner in crime, without losing him, without trying every second to redeem himself for a mistake that wasn’t even his fault, Majima would not be the man he is. And it does FUCK ME UP every time I remember that Majima is older. I don’t know about y’all. but I am an older sibling. I understand intimately the responsibility and affection you feel towards your younger siblings. I cannot imagine the pain and horror of losing one. Of feeling that you let your little sibling walk into danger alone, that you were supposed to be there with them, that it’s your fault they’re alone and suffering now... God, I’m surprised that grief didn’t kill him in that fucking hole. But Majima has self-loathing like none other and wanted to stay alive so that his brother could rightfully kill him. He was just so sorry. Fuck. Shit man. 

And Saejima, poor idiot Saejima, who always loved and looked up to his madcap brother. Poor baby who never knew what happened and only had bits and pieces and people trying to manipulate him to go on had to come to terms with the idea that his brother, his best friend, whom he trusted with his life, betrayed him. Thank god they reunited, thank god they talked before Majima could just lay his head on Saejima’s blade and let him do it. Thank god their bond is stronger than that and now they can live together forever. I don’t ship it romantically at all, I don’t think that’s the love they experience for each other. But I do believe it’s life-long and permanent. They’re brothers and will be close forever because they both feel a keen sense of duty toward each other as well as affection and just enjoying each other’s company. And Majima, especially, deserves to have stable relationships of all types, at long last. He doesn’t just want a soulmate, though he CERTAINLY has that, he wants a family, people to come home to, where he can see the best parts of himself and not hurt with how much he’s let them down. This is what he deserves and Saejima wants to be his family again, wants to be there with him. I love them.

general opinions: Absolute idiot, but the best friend you’ll ever have. Saejima has never judged another human being in his life and chances are he’s never thought about you at all. But if you can get his attention, make it your mission to befriend him, because he’ll stick with you forever.

yakuza 6 has a real case of daddy disease

by which i mean, it does that thing where a male character becomes a father and, rather than making the father a figure that the child needs to challenge in order to become their own person, makes the child a rebel that needs to be put back in their place, narratively speaking

it's a damn shame, because yakuza 5 almost entirely avoided falling into that trap. haruka got to be her own character, and she got to make her own decisions about whether she wanted to live at home or out in the world. blowing up her own career at the end of the game in order to claim kiryu and the morning glory kids as her actual family was a tremendous act of agency, on par with kiryu renouncing control of the tojo clan at the end of yakuza 1. yakuza 6 should have been about kiryu learning to adapt to not being the main character anymore, to being a supporting player in his daughter's life, but the game flinched. we could have had a game where she was the driving force and he was the player avatar, and that would have been fine — that was basically the dynamic that majima and makimura had in yakuza 0.

i mean, it's all broadly fine, the plot is always the weakest part of any of these games, but the come down from yakuza 4 and 5 is rough.
