Steam Reverie In Amber Art Book
Originally meant to release in September of this year but delayed, Steam Reverie In Amber is definitely an art book I don't think Western audiences are super acclimated to. It's not an artist that many people will know of. They don't have any manga out, nor have they had anything else released. The closest you can get is that they contributed art to Final Fantasy (which one I'm unsure). Because of that, it's not an art book about the art of a specific series when basically all art books we have in North America are manga specific. Even more, this art book actually has a loose narrative to it that drives the art in the first place. It's a very interesting concept that I can't say I've ever seen executed before, but rather than explain I'll let some samples of the art talk for itself.
It's an incredibly pretty art style, and the designs and approaches are separated into individual chapters based on what's happening with the narrative. I thought it was really cool that they included the tarot cards as both art and actual cards.
My only complaint is that the cards came in the art book on paper so you had to pop them out of the paper which is a little bit of a slower process and runs the risk of potentially tearing cards if you're not careful. It's really my only complaint about the book, I would have rather seen the cards included in some other format that didn't require removing them, especially when the paper they come on isn't perforated so you can't remove it once you've taken them out.
Anyways, it's a very creative and unique art book compared to the 2 dozen or so that I currently own, and at its price point and overall quality I definitely think it's something worth buying. Plus, if it does well Seven Seas is more likely to license more unique works like this one, so, win-win y'know?

Disclaimer: this is heavily based on drawing by @kuroimoi_twee on Twitter! I wanted to study their techniques and see what would work for my style. I’ve always loved linework and sketchy shading, so this was right up my alley and I enjoyed it immensely.
