What is Kuromyu? -A Comprehensive Guide- (updated)
For anyone who wants to stay informed and enjoy some pure brilliance.
Kuromyu, short for Musical Kuroshitsuji, is an umbrella term for the musical adaptations for the manga/anime series Kuroshitsuji. This term is only used in the English fandom. In Japanese, Kuromyu is better known as “Namashitsuji”, i.e. “Live Butler”, a wordplay of the series’ original title.
A brief timeline:
2009 Musical Dance-off Kuroshitsuji ~That Butler, Friendship~ [M1]
2010 Musical Kuroshitsuji -The Most Beautiful DEATH in The World- A Thousand Souls & the Fallen Reaper [M2.0]
2013 Musical Kuroshitsuji -The Most Beautiful DEATH in The World- A Thousand Souls & the Fallen Reaper (Rerun) [M2.5]
2014 Musical Kuroshitsuji: Lycoris that Blazes the Earth [M3.0]
2015 Musical Kuroshitsuji: Lycoris that Blazes the Earth 2015 (Rerun) [M3.5]
2016 Musical Kuroshitsuji: Noah’s Ark Circus [M4]
2017 Musical Kuroshitsuji: Tango on the Campania [M5]
To make things easier, I’d refer to them with their assigned code in the brackets. There have often been confusions about the way in which people refer to these musicals, but we generally understand that “Kuromyu 3” is Lycoris that Blazes the Earth, even when it’s actually the 4th installment of the Kuromyu series.
The cast of the main/reoccurring characters(Ciel’s actors are also marked with the respective age at which they played the character):

M4 (2016)
http://2016.namashitsuji.jp/
Tumblr media

Peter is played by a woman
M5 (2017)
http://www.namashitsuji.jp/
Tumblr media
Based on the “Luxury Liner” arc from the manga
The first Kuromyu to keep both actors for Sebastian and Ciel from the previous musical
The Kuromyu series can be roughly divided into two periods.
M1 and M2.0 marked the experimental beginning of the series before it went silent for almost 3 years.
Nelke Planning rebooted the Kuromyu series with M2.5 in 2013, and many of the actors who joined Kuromyu in M2.5 reprise their roles in later installments.
Please bring this post to every Kuroshitsuji fan you know who doesn’t know Kuromyu, because they don’t know what they are missing out.

Quote
You, a Grim Reaper that kills innocent souls, just for the sake of a mere soul. I, a demon that receives orders, just for the sake of a mere soul.
