I wish you would write a fic where...
Greek God Ares gets an introduction to World of the Coinless through Skull--or one of the other baby Oranges. I mean, if Santa, Loki, and Thor get a go, why not a more...sympathetic immortal.
Santa Thor Loki and arguably Neptune lol. And it’s always super hilarious to me how chill everyone is at the concept of the gods and Santa being real aside from star struck hero worship lol like oh yea the gods are real! Santa’s an actual person! This is a normal Tuesday! It’s amazing to me. I’d love to see them be introduced at the beginning of a series just to see if it’s acclimation to weird that lets the rangers and associates roll with this or if they’re just Like That before rangerdom
-
Fic Title: Butterfly Wings On Mighty War Drums
Fic Rating: M
Fandom: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Boom!Comics World of the Coinless, Greek Mythology
Characters: Ares, Lord Drakkon, Eugene Skullovitch, Neptune, Marina, Chad Lee, Adam Park, Ranger Slayer/Kimberly Hart
pairings: Ares/Eugene Skullovitch/Adam Park, Lord Drakkon/Eugene Skullovitch/Adam Park, Marina/Chad
Fic Summary:
many things can incite change from one reality to another. Some can have one change that results in tragedy centuries later. In one world, in one time, Ares is never found in the jar, and never rescued. The concept of war and bloodlust goes wild without one of its key gods to help regulate it. Resulting in one boy centuries after Ares’ imprisonment turning left when he should have gone right. Ignoring mercy when he otherwise would have sought it out and clung to it. Fifteen years after all that, an exhausted spy finds an ancient clay jar stoppered up in an old junk heap. Deft fingers pry the cork loose, and finally finally, Ares is free again. A bit maddened, a bit feral, but very willing to do his best to help. It’s not his fault, but this landscape is where he thrives best. So, with Skull, Ares enters the sentries and decides to get to work. Waging war from within and confronting the boy now man who is far too similar for his liking. Tact may not be Ares usual mode, but subterfuge keeps him close to the fascinating little sentry and his partner, and Ares is loathe to let anything happen to them. Plus; a wolf in sheep’s clothing is quite viscous when it’s able to infiltrate the flock.
Fic Excerpt:
Eugene looked from the empty bottle in his hand to the gaunt practically skeleton with skin and hair that had shot out of it with a scream and back to the bottle in his hand. The skeletal naked man moaned as he stroked the ground beneath him lovingly. It was…bizarre and uncomfortable. He was also muttering in a language Eugene wasn’t sure he recognized.
“Are you a genie?” He asked. It was all he could think to ask. The man looked up, then staggered to his feet with a despondent mutter. His voice, cracked and rough, lilted into a question sound. Eugene shook his head. “Man I only know English, ESL, and rudimentary Spanish from high school and even that I barely passed-mph!” The man had seemingly given up with niceties and suddenly there was a tongue in Eugene’s mouth and hands keeping his head still. He dropped the jar, slapping at the man’s arms but it was like hitting iron bars. Eventually he was let go, falling onto his ass as the man wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Apologies” said the not very apologetic sounding man. “There was no time to learn your language the traditional way. I had to borrow a page from Aphrodite.”
“Some kiss.” Eugene said numbly, touching his lips. The man laughed. “I’m Ares” he said, crouching beside Eugene. “A god of war, and harvest. And I owe you a great debt for letting me out of that jar.”
“A god.” Eugene’s head was spinning. “And here I was half expecting a genie.”

hypergryph i am on my hands and knees begging for a lee figure but in the meantime i suppose my og beloved my very first 6* my literal little meow meow silverash will be enough to fill the merch void
Tumblr media
so anyway here’s a quick and dirty figure review
the silverash noodle stoppers arrived yesterday (bought two because i said i would if they wound up being only around 2k each, which they did) and they are very reasonably attractive for what they cost
Tumblr media
the noodle stoppers have clear shortcomings when compared to the 1/8 york’s bise silverash that retailed for close to 20k, but that’s only to be expected considering these little dudes are literally a fraction of the price
i’m actually quite impressed by the overall feel of the noodle stoppers, they have a nice heft to them that i wasn’t expecting. a soft breeze wouldn’t knock them over if you were to use them for their intended purpose (which i’ll never be able to bring myself to do because sitting a figure down on the lid of a steaming hot cup of cup ramen can’t be good for it, can it?)
his tail is enormous, which is the most important thing of course, and though the coloration is a bit darker and murkier than i would have liked it’s really nothing i would gripe about considering he was cheap as hell
the face is the only part i would really call... not ideal, i don’t think it’s grotesquely bad or anything but it doesn’t look nearly as “right” as the york’s bise face to me
Tumblr media
noodle stopper silverash looks so yaoi but not the same kind of yaoi as normal silverash iykwim
overall, taking design and size and quality into consideration, i would say even 3.5k would be a perfectly reasonable price to him, so getting him for 2k feels like a pretty good deal
now i just have to figure out what the hell i’m going to do with two of these lol

The Boyz NSFW Scenarios
Lee Juyeon - Time-Out
best friends! Juyeon x fem!reader
warnings: semi-public sex, underage sex, a little bit of crack
Yet another sequel to Curiosity/Exploration that no one asked for, part 3: school edition
Juyeon's got a little, ahem, situation.
Tumblr media
You feel yourself drifting to sleep, the sound of your teacher droning on about trigonometry fading into a buzz. You're about to shut your eyes when the sudden screech of the chair next to you jolts you awake. You glare at the offending person who disturbed your sleep.
Lee. Ju. Yeon.
You glare at him, sending curse words telepathically. He glances at you worriedly, before asking the teacher if he could use the restroom. The teacher waves him off and he looks back at you with a pained look on his face as he all but runs from the classroom with his uniform jacket pulled tightly around his body.
Growing concerned, you texted him from under your desk, the teacher too absorbed in explaining the hypotenuse of a triangle to notice what the students were doing.
⭐(You) : yo wtf was that about? you okay? i was just about to fall asleep
🐱: i... have an emergency...
⭐: ??? what happened?!
🐱: dont laugh!
The next thing he sends is an image of his pants. Specifically, the prevalent bulge in his pants. You choke while trying to suppress your laughter and it gains you a few curious looks from the classmates around you. Dismissing them with a shake of your head, you start to tremble with silent giggles as you reply him.
⭐: take care of it yourself! and dont come back without washing your hands you perv
🐱: i cANT it wont go away hELP Me
🐱: oh wait
🐱: can you help me? pretty please
⭐: fuck no im not helping you live out your porno fantasies
🐱: did you forget that it's one of your fantasies too? come on, i cant do this without you. please? 😉
The next image you get sends a tingle down your spine. It's just his hand wrapped around his blushing cock, pants unzipped and pulled down just enough to free his member. There's a drop of precum right on his tip, and despite having large hands, Juyeon's cock still looks massive in its grasp. Your cheeks heat up and you can feel yourself getting wet. You compose yourself enough to reply.
⭐: it's 15 minutes to lunch. can you hold out till then?
🐱: i hope so. wanna go to the rooftop? i know they usually leave it unlocked
⭐: fine fine just get your ass back in class, you're starting to look suspicious. and wash your hands!!
🐱: thanks babe youre the best 😘
You roll your eyes at the pet name and sit up straight. Your mind was buzzing at the thought of what was to come. You weren't sure why you agreed to it. Sure it was something that you wanted to try, but it was still a dangerous and reckless decision.
Juyeon comes back to class, jacket still being used to subtly cover his 'situation' and shoots the teacher one of his signature eye smiles. No one can resist his smile and if the teacher had any feelings of annoyance that he was missing class for so long, they would have melted away instantly. Juyeon waddles awkwardly back to his seat and winks at you. You sigh and slump into your seat as you wait for the lunch bell to ring.
The bell finally rings and both of you jump to your feet and blend with the crowd of students exiting the classroom, failing to hear your friends Kevin and Changmin calling your names. Juyeon grabs your hand and you sneakily make your way to the staircase that leads to the rooftop, making sure no one sees you heading that way.
Fortunately the door is unlocked and you head up to the rooftop, looking around to make sure it really was deserted. "Should we block the door or something? So people will think it's locked?" you ask, looking at a pile of bricks you considered using as a makeshift door stopper. "Why? Afraid people are gonna walk in on us? But don't you wanna get caught?" Juyeon sneers, shrugging his jacket off as he approaches you. You blush heavily, worrying that some of the students would come up here to smoke in secret, and sometimes teachers would do random patrols. But that was the thrill, wasn't it?
You pretend to be annoyed and give him a light shove for teasing you. "Let's just hurry before lunch ends, I still want to eat." you grumble. Juyeon towers over you with a dark glint in his eyes. He drops his jacket to the ground before pushing you down to kneel on it. what a gentleman. "I got something right here that just might satisfy your hunger, baby," he smirked.
You stare up at him, dumbfounded. "You really need to stop watching so much porn, you're starting to quote their cheesy-ass dialogue and it's a real turn-off, dude," you deadpan. Juyeon lets out a strangled whine and pouts. "Can you just focus on helping me with my problem please? The faster we do this the faster we can get lunch," he groaned. You chuckle, finally wrapping your hand around his length and he hisses at the contact. You immediately start sucking on his tip as you stroke the rest of his cock. His moans steadily increase in volume as you bob your head up and down, taking more of him into your mouth.
He grabs you by your ponytail and steadily fucks into your mouth as you carress his balls. You feel your knees start aching, when he suddenly pulls you off his dick and into a standing position. He shoves you against the wall and you yelp in surprise. He's rummaging through the pockets of his discarded jacket and you yell at him in a whisper "Ow dude what the fuck?!" He finally finds what he's looking for and triumphantly holds it up in your face, an impish grin on his lips. You stare at the offending foil in his hands.
"...what the fuck...?"
He rolls his eyes at you. "Come on now, don't pretend you didn't see this coming. At least we're better prepared than the last time."
He hurriedly rips the condom packaging open and puts the latex on, gritting his teeth at how sensitive his dick was, and you watch on with uncertainty. Juyeon glances up, noticing your hesitation and stills. He comes closer to you, holding your hands with gentle concern; an immediate switch from his actions just a minute ago. "Hey if you're really unsure about this, it's fine. I can just jack off and we might still make it in time for lunch."
He searches your expression for an answer and you swallow the lump in your throat. Someone could come up here anytime, so you two had  better make it quick, if at all. Plus, you were already riled up from sucking Juyeon off, so you needed to get off too. Fuck it. You meet his eyes and pull him by the collar, crashing your lips together. Juyeon's surprised squeak is muffled by your lips but he quickly kisses you back and slips his tongue into your mouth, letting it wander. Scrambling to pull your panties down, you then reach for his cock to align it with your folds.
He whispers against your lips, "I haven't prepped you yet, will you be okay?" You take this time to take your panties off and stuff them in the pocket of your uniform jacket, before pulling him close again. “I’ll be fine, just hurry,” you hiss. Juyeon quickly nods, pulling your leg up and hooking it over his forearm so he can slot himself between your thighs. He gently eases himself into you, sighing as he feels the familiar warmth of your dripping pussy around him.
You bite your lip as you feel your walls stretching, suppressing a pained whine from the stinging feeling in your core. Juyeon notices your discomfort, and distracts you with a deep kiss, moving his lips slowly against yours as he massages your hips soothingly. When he feels the tension in your body dissipate, Juyeon grinds his hips experimentally into yours, prompting a soft moan to fall from your lips, which he greedily eats up too. “M-move, Juyeon,” you whisper, and he obliges, rhythmically thrusting into you. The way your legs are spread gives him the perfect angle to fuck you nice and deep, internally thanking the universe that you’re so flexible. With each of his thrusts, a moan rips from your throat and he slaps a large hand over your mouth.
“Shhh, baby, keep your voice down. Don’t wanna get caught, do we?” he warns mockingly. You shake your head but you’re still whining and mewling, conveniently muffled by his hand. “Imagine, two straight-A honors students, caught fucking on the school rooftop. The star of the basketball team and the leader of the state-champion robotics team. What a disgrace. You think they’d dare expel us?” he sneers, his cocky side taking over once again as he thrusts harder and deeper into you, making your body jolt from the force of his movements. A particularly rough snap of his hips sends you howling, eyes rolling back as he slaps your thigh with a snicker. “So fucking dirty, babe. You just wanna get caught don’t you?” he moves his hand from covering your lips to grip your chin, forcing you to look up at him. You shake your head, barely able to talk. “N-no, Juyeon… but please, let me cum,” you plead, your breath coming in short pants and stutters as he uses your body roughly, desperate for release.
His hand slips down to grab your breast, massaging it roughly through your bra, and your knees buckle beneath you, hands scrambling to hold on to his shoulders to keep yourself upright, even though he’s basically already holding you up at this point. “Go on and cum then, but we’re not done until I say so. You’re here to help me after all, so you’re not going anywhere until I’m done with you. Understand?” he growls in your ear, and you melt like putty in his arms, letting him use your body to chase his orgasm. His thrusts start to get sloppy and he loses his rhythm, opting to drill into your g-spot repeatedly until you suddenly clench hard around him, your whole body trembling and your mouth open in a silent scream. The sudden pressure around his dick has Juyeon groaning into your neck, grinding hard into you as he spills into the condom. Your body slumps lifelessly against the wall, rocking gently as he rides his orgasm out, panting harshly into your damp skin. He rests his forehead on the wall as both of you try to catch your breaths, and pulls out slowly before gently letting you down, making sure you’ve got enough strength in your legs to remain upright. You grimace at the sudden feeling of emptiness and slick oozing out from between your thighs, hastily finding a packet of tissues in your bag to wipe yourself down, quickly putting your panties back on too.
Meanwhile, Juyeon is tying up the condom, exhaling in relief as his cock finally softens so he can tuck himself back into his pants without worrying about having to walk around with a stiffy all day. He turns back to face you as he picks his jacket up off the ground, dusting it off and slipping it back on. “You okay?” he asks, concerned but also mildly amused at how dishevelled you look. “Yeah I’m fine. That was... quite the experience,” you chuckle dryly, trying your best to smooth down your hair and straighten out your clothes. “Shit, it was great. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help,” he thanks you meekly, rubbing the back of his neck, feeling slightly embarrassed after it finally dawns upon him how reckless you two had been to have sex in school, and it was his idea to begin with. You smile and pat him on the head, urging him to head back to class since lunch period was almost over, and Kevin and Changmin were definitely going to question you two for disappearing like that.
After a quick detour to the bathroom to look more presentable, you rush back to class just in time before the rest of the students return. Just as you had expected, Kevin and Changmin made a beeline for you two, fully intent on interrogating you for abandoning them like that. Cute squirrel that he is, Changmin can be downright terrifying when he wants to be, and his suspicious glare almost makes Juyeon spill the beans, but luckily you jump in before he can divulge any information that your friends definitely didn’t need to know. “Juyeon... wasn’t feeling too well, so I stayed with him in the nurses’ office. But he’s fine now, he just needed some, uhhh, relief,” you explained calmly, trying to be as convincing as possible. Immediately, their eyes soften and they crowd around Juyeon, pressing their hands against his forehead to check his temperature. Kevin frowns slightly at the dampness on his hand. “You sure you’re feeling better? Seems like you had some cold sweat,” he quizzes, genuinely concerned. Juyeon nods enthusiastically, catching your eye as he grins at his friends. “Yeah, I feel great, loads better actually.”
You shoot him a smirk behind Kevin and Changmin’s back, quickly turning to face the front as the teacher steps into class to begin the next lesson. Juyeon sends you a grateful smile, eyes crinkling into little crescents. You sigh contentedly, albeit a little hungry since you missed lunch, but the adrenaline from your risky adventure keeps you sated. Despite the exhilirating thrill, you decide you’re never doing that again, though it was definitely an experience of a lifetime. And who better to share it with than your ride-or-die best friend?

2022 Get Outta Here
Last year I started my post by talking about COVID-19 and it is wild that that thing is still around and people STILL aren’t taking it seriously. I guess if people start off not taking something seriously there’s no reason to then take something seriously later as it has become the dreaded “new normal.” Awful. I’m moving to Pluto.
Let’s talk about the usual stuff, as is tradition.
Tumblr media
I know I have that graphic for goodreads (and I now have a secondary goodreads for graphic novels so there’s two now) but worth mentioning is I also have a storygraph account if any of you are on there! Please friend me or however that works.
So far storygraph has some issues (sometimes the website seems to crash and nothing loads or things I do don’t save to my profile) and it looks a little barren (though goodreads doesn’t exactly look good, either) but I really like that there’s the ability to see the community submitted content warnings and that a book is ranked not just by stars but by things like pace, focus, and vibe. Also it’s not owned by amazon (which goodreads is) so that’s a bonus. For now I have both accounts but hopefully storygraph keeps getting better and can eventually replace goodreads for me (I think the main things is adoption—I still like to see what friends and acquaintances are reading and if they’ve read what I’ve read so that’s currently missing for me and the other main thing is a “books by authors you’ve read” section, it is so handy to have that in one place).
I finished 37 novels and 10 graphic novels this year which brings me to 47 total books! I am much preferring 30 minutes of reading a day over an hour, it’s much easier to commit to and much less stressful and I still get a lot read in a year. It also feels really good to be able to fully fill out one of these calendars (I think I’ve managed it for the past few years) which is also nice. I know the calendar is totally arbitrary but there’s something nice feeling about having something that shows how much you’ve done at a glance.
As always I would really recommend doing this, but you can make your goal completely different (it could be ten minutes of reading a day, or a chapter a day, or a certain number of pages a day. Start with something where the bar is on the floor to make it easy to get into!). Doesn’t even need to be reading! Can be exercise or learning something or creative stuff! Sometimes calendars can be hard to find where they’re easy to fill in, I just started making my own in excel (google sheets would work, too) but I’ll put in a blank one at the end jic anyone wants to try. Gotta make the barrier to entry as low as possible! Anyway here’s my reading one:
Tumblr media
And then of course I love the little year-recap from goodreads!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really enjoy that I manage to read a very barely read book on goodreads every year.
Tumblr media
Again we’re up! This year my average has gone from 4.1 to 4.2 but still. I think overall I am reading better books. I’ve changed how I rate books on goodreads a little as well. I am in an eternal struggle with how ultimately meaningless rating systems are so I’m trying to rate things more on a scale of if-I-would-recommend-it and how many caveats I have with that. So more books wind up five stars than not. It feels much easier to rate things consistently, as well.
My own personal rating system (in my excel doc) tends to differ a little from how I rate things online (so despite rating Many books five stars this year only one book hit my favourites and most of those other five stars are in my ‘Excellent’, ‘Splendid’, and ‘Good’ categories. And then I have ‘Meh’, ‘Not Worth Reading’, and ‘Why does this exist?’). That’s just for me, and maybe friends, though.
Tumblr media
So! Of the 37 books I read this year I’m going to once again recommend a few.
Tumblr media
The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee
I recommended the first book last year and now that I’ve read the rest of the series I want to reinforce the recommendation: These books are thick, they’re door stoppers, and the first book is a little slow to start but once they get going they are phenomenal. Everything just goes, there are incredible high points in this series. I didn’t think the second book could be outdone but the third book did it. The series goes from conflicts inside a community to global conflicts that that community has to deal with and manipulate.
Basically: The series is about a family of ‘Green Bones’ (who are people who are able to control bioenergetic jade to enhance their strength, resilience, and speed) and how they deal with a territory war with another Green Bone Clan and eventually how they deal with foreign powers trying to extract and study bioenergetic jade for war purposes. Really great series.
Tumblr media
Mistakes Were Made (But not by me)
by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson
This one is non-fiction but I found it incredibly interesting. Most of it I feel is things most of us kind of intuitively know just by existing in the world and dealing with people being infuriating (especially in the context of jobs and managers passing the blame) but it’s interesting seeing the research and the various ways it comes into play. I’m not sure if I’m weird but I also found it a very fast, easy read as well? It was just too interesting for me to find boring. So if you’re looking for an interesting non-fiction check it out!
Tumblr media
Even Though I Knew The End by C.L. Polk
This is a novella so I can’t say too much without spoiling a lot but if you’re looking for a lesbian noir with magic, demons, and angels then definitely check this one out. The ending is maybe a little rushed but I loved the setting and the characters despite the very short amount of time with them (the curse of novellas).
Tumblr media
The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty
I didn’t actually like the first book at all! There were a lot of things in the first book that bugged me but I felt compelled to read the second anyway. I saw this book all over the place (and heard about it all over the place) and I have a thing for seeing djinn in books and media. Despite my issues there were nuggets of potential in the first book. And then the second book was shockingly good and I devoured the rest. A very fun fantasy romp about family and duty and the things we choose and how hard and disastrous it can be to try and do your own thing.
I especially liked the fourth book though which is a collection of short little scenes with various characters. They weren’t short-stories exactly they were just things that either didn’t fit in the main series or ultimately no longer belonged in it with how things went but I really enjoyed reading it. It felt very nostalgic and I wish more authors would do something similar. I don’t necessarily want plots and entire side stories to see more of characters sometimes I just want to see little things with the characters. I know that’s what a lot of people use fanfiction for but I’d love it from the original author. Really delighted by these and I’m really glad the publisher went for it! This kind of thing could easily have never seen the light of day or, best case in most instances, been relegated to some dusty page on the author’s website.
A lot of the other books I would recommend are parts of a series so I won’t get into them now, but I’m keeping an eye on Iron Widow, Children of Ragnarok, Book of Night, and Not Even Bones. Most of those don’t have sequels out yet, but one of them does so hopefully I can recommend it on next year’s round up.
Additionally some friends and I pass around books and write in them, and so far our library has six books in it! (There’s more on stand-by but they haven’t been written in yet.) It’s such a fun thing to do and makes some truly terrible books fun to read. One of the series we’re reading we’re hoping gets better (as promised by the fans of that series) and we might be adding the series that inspired that series to the list. (I am being intentionally vague.)
Once again I’m going to keep my goal at 30 books, half an hour of reading a day (catch up days allowed). I have enjoyed being much more relaxed about reading.  Unlike last year I currently only have four books out from the library (instead of last year’s thirteen) but that said I think all the books I read last year (including the graphic novels) except for four were from the library. So out of 47 books (total) 43 were from the library. I love the library, but I also need to get a proper start on my owned to-be-read pile. Once I’m through these four books I’m going to try to only take out a library book for every owned book I finish. So hopefully I can at least make it half and half.
Tumblr media
But! Here’s the ten graphic novels I read! One of which I own. I really enjoyed all of them and can happily recommend them all. Lore Olympus I finished the second volume and for whatever reason was just hooked and binged the rest online. Heartstopper is also really cute and sweet, I tried a little bit of the show and it wasn’t doing it for me but I am so, so happy it exists I’ve seen that it means a lot to a lot of people (but I’ll stick with the graphic novels).
Tumblr media
Film and TV I finished 45 things this year, which so far it seems like I watch a fairly consistent amount of stuff? 2020 my count was 43, last year was 41, this year is 45! Funny how that works out. Some of my highlights from this year are old goodies—we just recently watched the first two Lord of the Rings films (we were trying to marathon but it did not work out), and I re-watch Ghibli films periodically, but of the things I had never watched before? Everything in the image really stands out for me.
Love and Leashes was just incredibly cute, another delightful Korean film. I forgot I had watched that this year so I’m glad I’ve started tracking this stuff because this movie is just really cute. It’s on Netflix and I would wholeheartedly recommend checking it out!
Turning Red made me cry, and then when I walked in on family watching it I almost just cried again just knowing what scene they were on (they did not feel very invested in the movie so it was kind of awkward).
Everything Everywhere All At Once was incredible. I know everyone is saying that and has been saying that but if for whatever reason you haven’t watched it it is really good. It feels really ‘fresh’ in a way? It’s unhinged but also sincere, I really liked it.
Severance was really creepy and tense, and yet somehow very compelling despite the monotony of the environments the characters spend most of their time in. I’m so curious to see where it goes it ended on such a tense note.
Our Flag Means Death was a really heartwarming romp, I think the first few episodes I wasn’t crazy about but it got very good very fast and it also had a very tense ending.
Nope I watched twice back to back (and then a third time some months later to show family). It’s such a fun movie and there’s a lot to interpret and talk about in it, I think this is my favourite Jordan Peele movie yet.
And finally: House of the Dragon though this one is on thin ice. There’s a lot of weird and uncomfortable things in this series, which I guess is to be expected, but overall I found it really interesting and that last episode, hoo boy. I want to see it develop and I am hoping it does not go the way of Game of Thrones but I guess we’ll see.
Video games!
Okay so Nintendo sent me my yearly recap weirdly early this year? And then Steam just sent one. The steam one is very fun.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately the Nintendo one this year didn’t have that much info? Last year it gave total games, for how many hours, and even compared the previous year and because the switch doesn’t have the built-in tracker anymore (like the 3DS has) I can’t even check myself. Like I know I played my Switch for at least 130hrs this year in total (compared to 23 total hours last year) but that’s just looking at the games I know came out this year so I could have only played this year (being Arceus, Scarlet, and Splatoon 3) but for games I’ve played in the past like Shield, Pokemon Snap, Okami, Smash Bros, etc. I only can see total time, not time spent this year. I still really miss the tracking the 3DS has. Oh well at least Steam has an in-depth one this year:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love to see random little facts!! I’m surprised I hit even 20% with controller to be honest, I feel like I almost exclusively used keyboard and mouse this year.
Tumblr media
As you can see: I love to play new games.
Tumblr media
AND THIS is the kind of thing I like to see! I think that drop of in gaming is more or less universal across all platforms for me.
Okay so here’s everything I started this year and have yet to finish:
Tumblr media
And I actually am feeling very optimistic about finishing all of these! Two (Haunting Ground and Fahrenheit Indigo Prophecy) I’m playing for friends and both have been very fun to stream. One is a genuinely good game and one is Fahrenheit Indigo Prophecy (which is very fun to experience with friends but oh it’s not good, it is especially bad on PC because this “remaster” is garbage. I said RE4 on PC last year was bad but it’s an amazing port compared to this one.)
Haunting Ground is still a really delightful game. It makes me miss the days of costumes being fun unlockable bonuses instead of DLC. I’m mostly impressed (so far) by how good the game is at making sure you always know where to go despite how otherwise cryptic the plot is. The only time I’ve gotten lost/stuck was when I unlocked the room, ran into the stalker immediately in that room and ran, and then I guess I got startled so badly that the newly unlocked room just deleted itself from my short term memory. So that’s on me, not the game.
Pokemon Scarlet I’m chugging along steadily in (despite my many, many problems with the game) and Pokemon Legends Arceus I was thoroughly enjoying but the controls were too similar to Horizon Forbidden West so I’ll get back to it once I’m done Horizon. But hoo boy Horizon is taking a while. I know there’s a large group of people who want more game-play-time for their dollar and I largely disagree with that idea in general but this game is wild in that I am enjoying all the time I’m spending in it but also kind of exhausted by how huge it is.
The only one here I might not finish anytime soon is .hack, because I started playing it with Vin and would like to continue showing them it.
I think of all the games in my Unfinished Picture from last year the only one I actually finished was Tell Me Why—Dishonored I still kind of pick at, Pokemon Snap I haven’t gotten back to despite meaning to, Resident Evil Village I want to continue but haven’t gotten to either, same goes for Resident Evil 5. And Prey I officially decided I was done with. So I’m much more optimistic about finishing this year’s batch of unfinished games.
And with Hades 2 being announced I extra want to get back to and finish the first Hades (I got to the credits but I need to do everything).
And then the games I DID finish this year:
Tumblr media
All but one of these I played for/with friends! (Steph did most of the playing of Fatal Frame 3, though.) I finished up Tell Me Why on my own but all the rest were friend-experiences! Disco Elysium is unhinged (we would all lay down our lives for Kim). Lighthouse I have thought was “the dark beginning” forever and only right at the end of our play-through did I realize it was “being” not “beginning” and it was also entirely wild. Fatty Bear’s Birthday Surprise was charming and also kind of a lot. And then Pajama Sam in No Need to Hide when it’s Dark Outside was surprisingly well-written and charming? The last two games took almost no time to play all the way through (despite them being huge time sinks when I was a kid) but they hold up really well! Very intuitive, simple puzzles (which makes sense for a kid’s game but is still fluid-feeling as an adult as opposed to escape-room-esq logic puzzles ‘adult’ puzzle games require) and very fun writing that actually got some laughs out of us at points. Good stuff, we’re excited to play more from Humongous Entertainment.
I did start another fill-in-the-squares calendar in June. It mostly came from days feeling like they blur together and I couldn’t really remember what I had done on certain days and wasn’t sure if I had done anything “productive”. I’m really good at warping my own memory to downgrade the things I do so I tried to start marking off when I did anything, at all, that I consider some sort of productive. So that could be cleaning, writing, helping my sister with something, or one of the various little side-projects I take on. I haven’t been super consistent with it, I keep forgetting to fill in days, but overall it has been really helpful for even if I don’t remember what I did I can look back and see all the filled in squares and be sure I did at least something that I consider worthwhile. I just keep a little list under it of kind of ‘ongoing’ things that count or add on things that I finished and that has, in turn, made it easier to remember some neat stuff I did this year!
There’s two major ones but first: I really got into re-shelling controllers last year. Unfortunately I’ve kind of run out of controllers to re-shell. I did get to take apart a friend’s joycon recently to put in a new analogue stick to stop that pesky drift but otherwise I don’t do much shell-stuff these days.
But I did wrap my entire car.
Tumblr media
Before and after! Steph helped me with the hardest parts (the bumpers and roof) and my stepmom helped with some bits (which, despite our struggles, she says she’s glad she did because she never would have understood how much work I was putting in otherwise) and my partner helped a little with the doors when they were visiting! I’m especially happy with the headlights. I ground all the UV damaged plastic off, polished them up, and then put a clear, glossy, paint-protective film over top. They look brand-new! I love seeing side-by-sides of the lenses before and after. I used to think the ‘before’ state of the lenses looked good! Wild! Some people have lamented the colour (a lot of people really like bright red cars?) but I love the blue/purple colour shift and my clear-coat was coming off anyway (she’s an old car) so I had to do something to protect it. Bless and curse the co-worker who talked me into this (bless because I love it, curse because it was hard as hell).
I haven’t posted progress shots in one big block anywhere so I’m gonna do that here! And then I realized there were just WAY too many progress shots so here’s just a few:
Tumblr media
I mostly like the super wrinkly shots and then seeing it all smoothed out, it’s so satisfying (the work in between those shots is brutal) like these (with a mid-lens-fixing thrown in to see a polished one next to what I had before for funsies):
Tumblr media
It was so satisfying to have this come together and I am so happy with how she looks. I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped me along the way, some pieces would have been impossible with just one person (and in the case of the roof that seemed impossible even with two people). Considering it was my first time doing this and I was working in less-than-ideal circumstances (being: outside, where bugs and dust and leaves and weather are an issue) I think it turned out extremely well.
I think when I counted the actual total days this took it was like 11-14? I had work, and then we kept getting rain (the day we did the front bumper it actually rained in the middle of the day so in retrospect I’m amazed that one came together). I also did a little on some other cars. My stepmom’s car is also old so we did some protective stuff where the paint was having a hard time, did the hood of my sister’s car and her lenses as a birthday gift, and then did a co-workers car because its clear coat was having a really rough time. Lots of wrapping! I should redo this one in 4ish years (or that’s what the vinyl manufacturers say, anyway) so we’ll see how it goes.
I also made my dice displays nice this year. At some point I had gotten a shot-glass display to put my dice in, but it wasn’t the nicest looking. Better than having them not on display at all but not by much. For whatever reason I can’t find a proper picture of how it looked before but:
Tumblr media
And then once the glass was closed on top of that the ones in their cubes were pretty obscured and the other dice just, didn’t look great in their heaps. So I got some foam core, some washi tape, and a box cutter and spruced it up:
Tumblr media
Which I am super happy with! I was so happy with it I got a second one and fitted it the same way. It’s especially nice for my glow in the dark dice, I get to see them glow every time I turn the lights off now.It was a very time consuming little project but I’m really happy (and kind of amazed) at how it came together!
In terms of my more regular creative pursuits I didn’t really write anything creative except to completely re-structure a book series I was reading. It went from me ranting to just completely unhinged going IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE THIS and then I rewrote a scene from the book based on that premise. That was fun. I still need to touch that up and edit it some but then I fully intend to rip the book open and rebind it with my addition. (It’s one of our pass-around-and-comment-in books.) Still RPing, of course, and it’s a mix of god/furry Anir and Lelia with some modern Lelia and my spirit-folk thrown into the mix. And I didn’t really do much drawing this year but I did do a little to help my sister with some stuff. And that’s better than nothing! I will post none of that here, though.
Once again, though, I have been extremely blessed to receive some wonderful art!
Tumblr media
Art by @monsterranchersteph,@phantomeus, and @auyamx!
Hopefully 2023 proves to be better than 2022! I’m ending the year with a cold (not COVID, luckily, though I did have that during the summer and it was awful. I can only imagine how much worse it would’ve been if I weren’t vaccinated.) which I’m not sure is a great summary of the year but it’s unusual for me to get sick twice in one year. Having just a regular cold is surreal, though, the last two times I got sick (COVID and then some sort of flu) were both completely terrible, so having just kind of a stuffed up and runny nose, a teeny cough (like, barely), and then just extreme fatigue is more of an annoyance than anything. I am very glad to not be that sick but I also forgot very mild sickness is a thing. (And it’s annoying.)
Anyway, as stated above I’m going to keep my reading goal the same this year as last. 30 books, half an hour reading a day with catch-ups allowed. I’m going to try to get into the habit more of using my other general ‘productivity’ calendar because I have been finding that helpful for my mental health if nothing else. And if anyone else wants to try these calendars here’s the one I’ll be using:
Tumblr media
And I think that’s it! Happy new year! If you make any sort of yearly round-up or recap and you’ve made it this far please let me know and I’ll check it out! I am not consistently on tumblr so I miss stuff all the time. I log on, I sigh and block/report the bots that have followed me, I see a little of my dash, I add stuff to my queue, and that’s about it. So please let me know or link me!

Sleight of Hand -  Chapter Three
Tumblr media
Din Djarin/Thief!OFC Eventually E Warnings: Heavy petting (to survive), huddling for warmth (to survive), Mando gets to know his bounty a little better (to survive)
aka my favourite trope chapter. enjoy?
Read on AO3
Series Masterlist
Mando frog-marches the thief through the cooling desert. The suns dip lower and lower towards the horizon, until it shimmers in orange-blue mirage and the shadows grow long and wavering.
To his surprise, she doesn’t say much, although maybe that’s due to injury. Not physical injury - her wounds are all superficial - but the injury to her pride.
He's glad. She deserves it, and more.
Still, he can’t really blame her. He blames himself. He’s getting old - out of practice - he let his mind wander. This is his fault, and he’s reaping the consequences of a six-day march in less-than-desirable company.
He keeps her a pace-and-a-half ahead of him, blaster pointed at her back. And he makes sure she knows it, too.
“You better not try to run away again,” he tells her. “You won’t get far.”
“Dinner for the bonegnawers,” she sniffs, almost primly, without turning to look at him. “Right?”
Mando says nothing. They walk in silence for a moment.
“So, where were you planning to take me? Mos Espa?” She’s talking again, but he’s only half-paying attention to the drone of her voice. He’s busy mentally cataloguing his supplies. He doesn’t have food enough to last them both for six days even if he rations them, and he has even less water. If they reach Mos Espa they’re going to be severely dehydrated, probably almost dead.
There’s more pressing matters than food to worry about, however: Shelter. The largely-silent desert teems with life at night, with strange, haunting sounds issued from alien-shaped throats echoing across the sands. They need somewhere to hunker down for the night, and fast.
Thankfully, they come to the base of a range of short, spiny mountains before it grows too dark to see them. Not even a hundred meters tall and half-buried in a dune on one side, they can hardly be called mountains. Still, Din is able to find a lee and a deep hollow in the side of the rock, shielded from the weather.
It looks suspiciously organic, as if the hollows have been scooped out by enormous claws, but he tries not to think about that.
The Mandalorian directs his quarry to sit by waving the barrel of his blaster at her. She half-slides, half-collapses against the far wall, resting her head back against the rock.
“I never want to see another grain of sand ever again.”
“I hate to break it to you, but Tatooine is covered in it,” Mando points out. He stands watch a moment, scanning the horizon in every direction for a hint of anything moving that shouldn’t be. His helm has shifted to nightvision to compensate for the building night.
“That’s just one of the reasons I want to leave this Maker-forsaken planet,” the woman agrees, the eye-roll in her very tone. He glances back at her, his visor highlighting her face in glowing white, and although she can’t see his raised eyebrow under the helm, she seems to respond to it anyway: “What? Don’t you?”
Din says nothing. He fishes his canteen out of his bag and tosses it to her without looking; she manages the catch surprisingly easily in her bound hands. She struggles with the stopper a moment before prying it free with her thumbs and lifts the canteen to her mouth, drinking greedily.
“Hey!” Mando strides over and snatches the flask back. The thief grins wetly, her teeth white and chin shining, and he scowls at her from underneath the helm. “This has to last both of us six days.” He stuffs it back into his belt and decides he’s not going to offer food unless she kriffing begs for it.
“Yeah, right.” She snorts, leaning back against the rock. “You think we’re gonna make it alive? I don’t think so.”
Nobody really makes it alive, Din thinks. Not in the end.
“I hate to break it to you, but Tatooine is going to swallow us up,” the woman continues - some kind of dam of rage and frustration broken in her from which the words spew out. “It’s not even going to chew. We’ll just be bones in dust.”
Bones in dust. It’s an eloquent phrase from the mouth of a common thief.
Din says nothing, though. She seems content to fill the silence for the both of them.
‘Who  sent you, anyway?” She hooks her arms over her knees as she draws them up to her chest. She looks smaller, her long legs folded in, like a resting - or dead - spider. “Someone I know? Someone I owe?” She half-chuckles to herself, like it’s all one big joke.
She thinks she’s going to die and she’s laughing.
“One of them,” Mando says simply, trying not to let the bewilderment - or the admiration - show.
“Guess I should’ve expected the knife in the back,” the girl sighs, frowning as a shiver moves visibly through her. Without a jacket her sunburn is cooling, but she seems less comfortable than ever as the temperature drops. “Ugh. It’s getting c-c-cold,” she observes, her teeth clacking together.
Din sighs. “Stop talking. You lose heat on every word.”
“Up y-yours, you t-tin c-c-coc -” She cuts herself off as he kneels down behind her, his blaster leveled at her stomach for a moment - before he puts it away, sliding it home in its holster to free his hands.
She watches with round eyes as he unwinds his cloak from his throat and reaches out to slide it across her shoulders.
“Th-thanks,” she stutters, staring as he stands with a nod.
“Don’t get blood on it,” he says, and she touches the scrape on her cheek with a smirk as he turns away.
The temperature continues to plunge as the night grows deeper. The Mandalorian is somewhat insulated in his layers of Beskar, but even with his cloak, the thief continues to shiver and shake.
She tries to hide it - gritting her teeth to stop them from chattering, wrapping the cloak around her lower face to  the white cloud of her escaping breath. But there is no hiding from a Mandalorian with thermal vision.
Din watches her red silhouette subsumed by green and finally, blue. It creeps in at her quaking edges until she almost blends with the sand.
It is a particularly cold night for Tatooine. It is a cruel night.
Still the thief fights the encroaching cold, keeping herself awake. “Hmm,” she murmurs, long past when she should have fallen asleep. “I don’t f-feel cold anymore. That’s nice.”
Mando swears under his breath. “No, it’s not,” he says, kneeling by her side. He knows he’s putting himself within blaster-swiping distance but he judges her in no condition to mount another escape. Indeed, she’s barely conscious as he takes her shoulder, feeling the chill of her skin even through his gloves.
He doesn't need thermal vision to tell it's the beginnings of hypothermia.
“Dank farrik.” Din swears just once more before reaching up to unlatch his breastplate. He pries the woman’s half-conscious body from the cocoon of the cloak and pulls her to him, tucking the dark fabric around them both.
She curls into him like a caterpillar, still shuddering faintly. Grimacing under the helm all the while, he rubs her upper arms as quickly as he can and as lightly as he can while still burning friction. And heat.
Slowly, the blue blob of her body warms to green, with edges glowing gold. Din relaxes, keeping the thief tucked against his chest.
“For the record,” he hears her voice - smaller than before - croak from udnerneath his chin, “I s-still think you’re a b--b-bastard.”
“You’re welcome,” Din says, and the shudder of a laugh rather than a shiver rocks her shoulders in his arms before he begins to feel her slowly relax, and gradually, her breathing eases to the rhythm of sleep.
She isn’t as annoying like this, he decides. In fact, she is drawn and delicate - compact, like a fox - all wiry muscle and gentle dips and curves where he has edges. It’s strange to hold her without his Beskar in the way.
It’s strange to hold her - or anyone at all.
It seems unfair, and a little cruel, that it should be this...this pickpocket. This warm, surprisingly soft criminal-woman who mutters murder in her sleep.
Din’s eyes snap open - he drifted into a light doze without meaning to, or realizing. The woman, the thief is still in his arms - draped over him, in fact, her face pressed to his chest, hands curled against it, one of her legs slung over his.
And his arms are wrapped around her waist, keeping her pressed to him.
It shouldn’t be as comfortable as it is. And he is definitely warm enough now - and so is she. The fever has gone from her skin and her limbs no longer twitch or spasm; she is relaxed, even snoring softly against his chest.
He’ll give her another five minutes, Din decides indulgently as he closes his eyes. It’s been a rough journey so far and it will do well to have her rested for the trek ahead.
At least, that’s what he tells himself as he allows himself to relax beneath her, splaying his hands over her back and leaning his helm back against the rock with a long-suffering sigh.
And then the Tuskens standing over them raise their gaffi sticks in the air and bellow.

1977-12-31, CAPITOL THEATRE, PASSAIC, NJ
Photos by Micheal Putland, though I’m not sure of the last two pics!
Bruce & The E Street Band perform on stage with Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes.
STORY AS WRITTEN IN HIS BLOG BY ‘MUSIC CITY MIKE’:
“Promoter John Scher welcomed everyone to the theatre with the greeting of “It’s New Year’s in New Jersey.” Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were the New Year’s Eve headliners at the Capitol. Riding high on the success of their first two records, the band was moving from the clubs to the small theater, and this night was their biggest show to date. The Jukes were joined this evening by their founding member, producer and song contributor, Miami (he wasn’t called “Little” yet) Steve van Zandt on guitar and backing vocals. His special presence added the extra treat of him doing the Sam and Dave thing with Johnny on duets of “Broken Down Piece of Man” and “You Don’t Know Like I Know.
The Juke’s set was on the money, and of course, whenever they played there was always the possibility of a Springsteen appearance. While it didn’t always happen, this night it did and in spades! Of all of the concerts I have been to, this certainly was the biggest musical surprise I have ever witnessed.
Another Asbury Park band, The Shakes opened the night, and The Jukes timed their set to start around 11:15pm. After a few songs, it was the midnight hour and surprise, surprise, a “loose” Bruce joined them in singing the Juke’s trademark show-stopper, Sam Cooke’s “Having a Party” right after the Miami Horns played the requisite “Auld Lang Syne.” Rockabilly singer, Robert Gordon, who was currently being embraced by the punk community, also joined in on the fun during “Stagger Lee” as did a steady flow of E Street Band members throughout the show.
Bruce stayed on for the rest of the set singing a little, but mostly just playing some added guitar. But, he really started letting go when he and Johnny set out to end the night trading vocals on an exhilarating version of Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and Higher.” The audience then started to head out the doors into the cold New Jersey night. I myself was in the lobby when I heard things starting up again. Bruce wanted to play some more, and everyone quickly rushed back inside to their seats.
Bruce and the E Street Band had not played together for over 9 months, and the Boss was just itching to perform. “I’m drunk and silly as a fool” said the man before kicking things off with covers of “Little Latin Lupe Lu” and “You Can’t Sit Down” during which he and the entire E Street Band were joined by several Jukes.
WNEW-FM was broadcasting the show live on the radio. Station DJ and Springsteen friend, Richard Neer was producing and MC-ing the event on the air and thought he’d just keep the tape rolling for a loose Bruce and the boys. But, Bruce was looking to just have some fun, and probably would rather not see a bootleg recording of this last-minute sloppy reunion. He gave word to kill the broadcast after the first two numbers, and it was then time for he and his band to get down to some serious business.
The surprise 45-minutes of Springsteen continued with “Backstreets,” “Born to Run” and came to a close with a cover of Gary U.S. Bonds’ “Quarter to Three.” “Backstreets” was a long extended version that included its first ever wrap with the lyrical improvisation that would eventually become the song “Drive All Night.” Maybe the E Streeters were a little sloppy, but this still was the best time I have ever had at 2am in the morning in Passaic.”

fluorescent adolescent PART 1
summary: Fred Weasley has been drawing the eldest Malfoy daughter since his third year of Hogwarts. Elara Malfoy has fancied Fred Weasley since her fifth year at Hogwarts. It is during their final year, that the two of them do something about the mutual attraction.
pairing: Fred x OC older Malfoy sister
not related to flames and snow!! just a different perspective on Fred x older Malfoy sister.
Tumblr media
Fred Weasley was an artist, and a damn good one at that.
His special skill was normally used to sketch out the beginnings of a prank plot he and George were thinking of, and it slowly progressed into making designs for actual products and contraptions he and George planned for their joke shop.
He also found, during his third year, that he was fond of drawing a stunning silver haired goddess with bewitching grey eyes. He was enamored with drawing her in every position he could think of, staring out at the black lake, walking down the corridor, sitting at the Great Hall. Any position he found her in, he immediately itched to sketch it out.
Why, exactly, was Fred so obsessed with drawing Elara Malfoy? He didn’t have a clue. Yes, she was beautiful there was no doubt to that, but her personality… Well, it needed some work.
She rarely ever smiled and normally had the look that she had smelled something unpleasant. Her free time was spent cajoling with the other Pureblood families she deemed worthy of her time, and although he hadn't seen her bully the other kids the way her brother Draco liked, he had seen her hex a few students that didn’t appear to deserve it. She certainly believed in the awful blood purity ideals her family believed in, and she was snarky and rude neary every time he had heard her speak.
Not only that, but he had even seen the girl cosying up to Umbridge of all people. The nasty woman who made students carve words into their arms and hands as detention. Elara Malfoy was the furthest thing from the type of woman Fred Weasley should spend his time thinking about.
Yet… he knew she thought of him too. Granted, he was certain she didn’t have a sketchbook filled with drawings of himself, but on more than one occasion he had caught her staring at him. The first time was at the Yule Ball, and Fred was dancing with Angelina Johnson while Elara looked bored and slightly uncomfortable with Theodore Nott as her date.
As much as Fred found Angelina pretty, she paled in comparison to the grace that was Elara Malfoy. Elara had worn a dark green, shimmering dress, accentuating her curves and flowing to the floor with a regal look that had every head turned. Her hair had been up in some complicated look, and her creamy neck was adorned with a silver necklace with the Malfoy family crest sitting arrogantly on her cleavage. Fred could describe all the little details about Elara, but couldn’t even tell you what color Angelina’s dress was.
It was when Fred was twirling Angelina up in the air, the both of them laughing, that Fred noticed Elara with an odd look on her face, as she was held in Theodore Nott’s stiff arms. It took Fred a moment to place the look as jealousy. Their eyes met as Fred set Angelina back down on the ground, and Elara’s lips screwed down in a scowl worthy of her father, and swiftly turned away from his gaze.
From that moment, he had seen her staring several other times, and he was able to draw her eyes in more detail as he was finally getting to see them more often. George was the only person who knew of his obsession, and frequently switched between making fun of him and worrying about him.
“Mate,” George had said one night, when Fred was up later than he should have been, furiously getting her eyes just right. “This girl isn’t worth the stress. She’s a Malfoy.”
“Georgie, I’m well aware of her heritage,” Fred had replied, pausing his pencil to look at his twin. “I know nothing will come of this. But I just can’t stop thinking of her.”
It wasn’t like Elara was all bad, either. Thanks to his obsession, he had seen her more than once secretly hex her brother when he was being mean to younger students. And Fred noticed that anytime she saw an older student from any house doing anything to make the younger students of any house feel uncomfortable or bullying them, she would silently hex them too. She did care, Fred knew, it just didn’t seem to be a priority to her.
Fred’s moment to shine, however, came in the form of a Potions class that he and George had arrived late to. There had been no seats left, except for one next to Lee Jordan, and one left to Elara Malfoy. George had given him a swift wink before setting his things down next to Lee, while Fred was left to make his way to the back corner where Elara had her head bent over a brightly colored journal that seemed out of place in her usual dark attire.
“Afternoon.” Fred tried to say the word cheerfully, but it came out funny and stuck in his suddenly dry throat, giving the impression that he had regressed in puberty.
Elara looked up then, her black lips pursing and her grey eyes narrowing. This close, he could see there was actually a ring of blue and flecks of green in her eyes, and his fingers twitched as he thought of drawing them later.
She parted her full lips to say something, but was interrupted as Snape informed them to turn to page seven hundred and thirty eight in their Potions book. She settled for a sneer instead, and Fred had to hold back a laugh as it fully mirrored her brother’s infamous look.
“Something amusing, Weasley?” She uttered, her long black fingernails flicking through the pages.
And Merlin, her voice was something else. It was throaty and light at the same time, and he couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to hear her rasp as he fucked her over a counter- and he had to stop himself there.
“Just the family resemblance, is all.” Fred replied smoothly, cocking an eyebrow as he met her contempt gaze.
“Hm,” Elara paused, looking him up and down. “You’re right, family resemblance is a funny thing, Weasley.”
With that, she went back to flipping through the pages of her Potions book. And yes, Fred knew, he just knew  that was an insult, but he couldn’t get over how attractive she was up close and how delectable her voice was to him. This close, he could see that her bottom lip was slightly fuller than her top lip, her eyebrow had a small slit in it from what appeared to be a long forgotten scar, she had dimples, and she smelled like lavender and vanilla mixed with fresh laundry. She wore rings on every finger, small dainty silver ones with different jewels and designs, of course one with the Malfoy crest, and her hands themselves were smaller than he had imagined.
Fred couldn’t stop staring at her.
She suddenly stood from the table, and walked towards the front of the room. That made Fred remember that he was supposed to be brewing a potion, and he hastily found the correct page in the book, and then jotted down the ingredients he would need. He made his way up just as she made her way back, and although he offered her a smile, she didn’t return it.
“How’s it going, Freddie?” George nudged his side with his elbow as they gathered their ingredients.
“Exactly as you’re imagining, mate.” Fred replied snarkily to his twin, who laughed at his misery. It was rare that George got to see Fred in a position like this, and he had to admit he was enjoying every second of it.
“Good luck!” George winked at Fred, cheerily going to sit back down with Lee Jordan.
Fred would get George back for this.
Elara was busy crushing up dried nettlefish when Fred came back to the table, her sleek silver hair tied back from her face. Fred dumped his ingredients on his half of the table, reaching out a quick hand to grasp the jar containing a bat spleen before it rolled off the side of the table.
Elara noticed, and the side of her mouth quirked up into a smirk. Fred swore then and there that his heart had stopped for a second before starting back up again.
He quickly launched into getting his ingredients put together, running through the motions rather quickly and confidently in an attempt to impress Elara, who already had the correct color and consistency of the Potion they were brewing. Fred swore under his breath as his potion switched from a pale blue color, to a murky green.
“You’ve added too much wormroot,” Elara sighed, pausing in the stirring of her own potion. “Add a pinch more of the dried nettlefish, and it should be fine.”
“Define a pinch.” Fred scratched the back of his head, grimacing in frustration.
Elara huffed, and suddenly she was invading Fred’s personal space, her heavenly scent washing over him as she quickly added the ingredient to the potion, going so far as to stir it for him. She nodded at him when it finally turned to more of a blue than a green.
“It won’t be perfect, but unless you’d rather start over that’s the best you’ll get.” Elara shrugged, turning her attention back to her own. It was the perfect shimmering blue, and Fred was mesmerized as he watched Elara gently stir it once more, before raising her hand for Professor Snape to come take a look.
“Thanks.” said Fred, unable to take his eyes off Elara’s beautiful face. She had gorgeous cheekbones, high and hollow like they were carved by Aphrodite herself. Even as she sat there with her hand raised, she had the grace and poise that could only be associated with traditional pure blood families.
“Ah, Miss Malfoy,” Snape pulled a vial from his bat like robes, streaming her potion inside of it and placing a rubber stopper to hold it in place. “Interesting company you have with yourself today.”
“Yes, indeed,” Elara replied, and it was only because Fred was studying her that he noticed her jaw clench, and her fingers clench around the edge of the table top. “Perhaps if you had more tables in your classroom, I wouldn’t have had to subject myself to a Gryffindor.”
Snape narrowed his eyes at her, and then darted his gaze over to Fred, who felt insulted at Elara’s words. “Weasley, I see you did only slightly better than your brother.”
“Well, at least I still came out on top, hm?” Fred retorted, giving a wide smile to the slimy git. Snape rolled his eyes, and swiftly gathered a vial of his potion before moving onto the next table.
“Didn’t mean to subject you to my presence, by the way,” said Fred lightly, focusing on gathering his ingredients together. “There were no other places for me to sit.”
“Aw, did little Weasley get his feelings hurt?” Elara said the words almost seductively, teasing most certainly, but with a little spice. “What’s he gonna do about it?”
Fred paused, looking to see that Elara had a smirk on her beautiful face, her long fingernails tapping against the counter. She leaned forward slightly, and Fred noticed that she had undone the top three buttons of her blouse, and he could just barely see a lace bra underneath the fabric. He swallowed hard.
“Perhaps you should meet me at the astronomy tower around midnight, ey?” Fred said the words casually, ignoring the way his dick twitched at the thought.
Elara bit her lip, and sat back in her chair. She slowly crossed her legs, and Fred had to grip the table in front of him.
“I’ll be there.”

Me again. I saw your post where you were reading LOTR. I’m just curious. Do you have the single volume edition or the three standard separate books. I have both because I’m obsessed. My single volume omnibus copy was owned by an American woman named Dixie. She put her name on it. Little did she know it would end up in the north of Ireland. I’ve had it since Christmas 2013. It’s got illustrations by Alan Lee. I read it once every year. It’s HUGE! 1,250 pages. A bloody door stopper of a book.
Your copies sound really cool! The copy of The Hobbit my dad would read me to sleep was a small paperback, and we had three big LOTR paperbacks that were all black. I found we had another set of 3 that I started rereading today, and it’s 3 more paperbacks. The first one wasn’t a part of the same set as the other 2, the first one has an illustration of Frodo hiding from a Ringwraith and the other 2 have shots from the movies.

Professor Kettleburn’s Legacy
This story I had planned for several months now, but kept putting it off because I wasn’t sure how the interactions would go. But I finally finished it today--I had hoped to put this up before Christmas, so here we are. Enjoy this little fluffy story of Clara and Barnaby’s youngest child and her namesake, Professor Silvanus Kettleburn.
~~
December 2002
Soft snowflakes descended through the grey skies in slow twirls as they rode on gentle breezes over the picturesque Hogsmeade village. The sounds of merry chatter and lucid chiming of bells outside the shops filled the cold crisp air, as well as the lilting melodies sung by the Frog Choir caroling giving good tidings to passersby making a last-minute gift purchase or spending time with their loved ones. Somewhere near the Honeydukes sweet shop, a woman wrapped a soft yellow blanket tightly around a bundle in her arms, holding it close to her chest, and looked at her husband who had an arm wrapped around her shoulders. It felt strange being back here, not as visiting Hogwarts students anymore, but as adults, a married couple--yet they both felt the wave of nostalgia as they looked around the shops, some still open, some closed and boarded up due to lack of business.
“You sure this is a good idea to leave the twins with Penny, Barnaby?” the woman asked her husband. “They’re already quite a handful with us being around.”
Barnaby laughed lightly and nodded. “Of course, Clara. They’ll be in good hands. Besides, you know how important this is to us,” he added, looking down at the little baby girl in Clara’s arms. “Little Sylvia deserves to know of her namesake.”
“And I can imagine Professor Kettleburn must feel lonely,” Clara added. “You’re right.”
The peaceful ambience that surrounded them as they passed by the colourful Christmas decorations and shop windows felt so surreal in the wake of the Battle that shook the entire wizarding world. With cloaks wrapped tightly around themselves they strolled through the streets, and eventually they both entered the Three Broomsticks, drawing their hoods off their heads at the inviting warmth from the fireplace.
“Hello, my dears,” Madam Rosmerta greeted them as she passed by with a tray of Butterbeers in her hands, a warm smile on her face. “It’s good to see you again.”
“Thank you, Madam Rosmerta.” Barnaby gave her a short bow, and Clara smiled in gratitude.
“The usual for you both, I assume?” Madam Rosmerta asked them then.
“Butterbeer sounds great, but we’re here to see Silvanus Kettleburn today,” Clara responded, fixing the blanket over the baby in her arms. “We heard he’s staying here with you in the inn upstairs. We’d like to visit him, if that’s alright.”
“Ah, the old Care of Magical Creatures Professor. Of course you may visit him,” Madam Rosmerta said with a nod. “Let me hand over these last orders and I’ll show you to his room.”
She swept off with the tray of Butterbeers, making her way to a large group of Hogwarts students sitting in the corner table of the tavern and serving their drinks. Eventually she went over to the counter and put the empty tray away before beckoning to the two of them to follow her upstairs.
Clara had only been to the upper landing of the Three Broomsticks a few times, but never anywhere out of the tavern. As she followed Madam Rosmerta through a door separating the accommodations from the diner, she felt Barnaby’s arm loop back around her shoulders protectively, and she glanced back at her husband with a small smile.
“Here,” Madam Rosmerta announced, gesturing to the third door on the left. She gently knocked on the door three times--and then the door opened to reveal their favourite professor from their Hogwarts days.
Professor Kettleburn’s hair had become more silver with age, sticking up every which way like a scientist whose experiment went wrong. The usual white bandage that covered his left eye socket was replaced with a black eyepatch, and his artificial leg and hand were significantly blackened and burned. His jacket was fraying at the cuffs and hem, the patches holding the garment together slowly peeling off, but his eye still held the wizened excited sparkle that they had grown used to seeing every time he discussed a new magical creature. The moment he saw Madam Rosmerta, his eyes lit up and he gave her a wide smile.
“Madam Rosmerta!” he greeted her. “Ah, I must apologize--I have a few salamanders playing in the fireplace, and an excited Murtlap who kept mistaking my palm for an oyster--”
“Silvanus, you have visitors,” Madam Rosmerta simply told him with a chuckle. “I believe they were your old students as well.”
“Visitors? Students?” Professor Kettleburn turned his head to see Clara and Barnaby, and he straightened up significantly now, his smile now turning into a grin. “Ah, Miss Lin and Mr. Lee! How wonderful it is to see you. I must admit, I never have gotten visitors at this time of year before today.”
“I’ll leave you both to him,” Madam Rosmerta said to the couple now, both people beaming at the sight of their old professor who somehow still remembered them. “Though please let me know if he lets a Niffler loose here. The last time we had to clear out his room, the Niffler was making a racket and a mess of the place.”
Professor Kettleburn looked sheepish as they watched Madam Rosmerta exit back into the diner, and he cleared his throat as he looked at his old students. “Do come in, both of you.”
The room was very simple--the walls were bare, but the coat of white paint still looked intact, without a sign of crumbling or crackling. A simple cot and an old-fashioned writing desk stood by the far wall, and a suitcase laid on the far right corner--Barnaby chuckled at the suitcase and gave a nod, knowing full well of the contents in the case. By the fireplace just by the door, Clara could see the fire salamanders frolicking in the fireplace, leaping about from piece of firewood to piece of firewood while the flames crackled merrily in the hearth, a brilliant orange glow illuminating the cold cloudy winter outside. She smiled and turned to Professor Kettleburn now, who had waved his wand and conjured a few more chairs for them to sit in.
“So, what brought you here to see me?” Professor Kettleburn asked the two of them as they took their seats. “I deeply apologize for not being able to attend your wedding, by the way. I was tending to a rather upset Ukranian Ironbelly in the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary--your friend Charlie Weasley is doing rather fine as a dragonologist there, by the way.”
“Indeed. We managed to catch up with him before the wedding, and a few months after too,” Barnaby responded with a nod. “It’s really great to see you again, Professor.”
“Aye.” Professor Kettleburn nodded as he took out a bottle of oak-matured mead and removed the stopper with his wand. “I must say it has been a long while since anyone has come to visit me for old time’s sake. These days, all everyone’s asked me for is help with healing injured creatures. Any more creatures in the case, and this place would turn into a zoo.”
This brought a slight chuckle from Clara’s mouth, and Barnaby nodded thoughtfully as he helped Professor Kettleburn pour the mead into three tall glasses.
“I know what you mean, Professor. When Clara left for China, Liz and I had a lot of creatures to take care of at our care centre--which was a lot of work, but in the end we both pulled through,” Barnaby commented, taking one glass and handing it to Clara. “The weeks the creatures were there, though, they caused a big mess!”
“‘Tis the life of a caring magizoologist,” Professor Kettleburn remarked, taking a sip from his glass of mead. “And--”
“Professor,” Clara interrupted softly. “We came to see you because...we want you to see our daughter. We chose you to be her namesake.”
That said, she unwrapped the bundle and held it out to him--indeed, swaddled in the pale yellow blanket, there was a healthy little baby with small brown tufts of curly hair over her forehead, her fist closed over the blanket as she slept. She was barely one month old, yet somehow the journey did not affect her in any way, which surprised her--her older twin son, Melvin, was not that docile when he was born at least. The sight of the baby brought a gasp from the old man, his jaw dropped wide open.
“What is her name?” he finally asked.
“Sylvia,” Clara responded with a smile. “Sylvia Lee.”
At the sound of her name, the baby in her mother’s arms stirred slightly, her head lifted and lowered as she turned over in her sleep. A soft coo escaped Professor Kettleburn, and he put the glass down, hesitantly holding out his arms. “May I?”
Clara nodded, gently passing the baby over to him. “Of course, sir.”
Years of teaching one of her favourite subjects at school told her a lot there was to her professor’s passion and admiration for magical creatures, but she never realized just how deeply caring he was for babies. Just like he would a sleepy Niffler, Professor Kettleburn eased the baby into his arms and, with his mechanical hand, tucked the blanket securely over the child. As he did so, Sylvia opened her eyes--a gleaming emerald like her father’s--and at the sight of the unfamiliar face looking down at her, she smiled and gurgled.
It was definitely an uncommon reaction for a baby meeting a stranger for the first time, but Clara had told her many stories about her namesake since she was carrying her, showing pictures and sharing memories alongside her husband. The enthusiasm he held for magical creatures, the very subject he had passion for, fostered a passion within her as well to appreciate every living being that roamed the earth. When they heard that they were having a daughter, it was Barnaby who came up with her name--after all, Clara had named the twin boys, Melvin and Milo, so Barnaby was more than excited to bring up the perfect name for their daughter. And now, as they watched little Sylvia coo at Professor Kettleburn, her tiny hands reaching up for his moustache, they couldn’t help but chuckle at the heartwarming scene before them.
“Hello, little lass,” Professor Kettleburn greeted the baby in his arms, bouncing the baby up and down gently.
Sylvia laughed, a huge toothless grin on her face while her eyes shone with excitement.
“Your parents must have told many a story about me, eh? I was their professor for one of their favourite subjects at school, after all,” Professor Kettleburn continued. “Taught them all there was to know about magical creatures! And you look like a little magizoologist in the making!”
He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a Fwooper tail feather, tickling little Sylvia’s face and body with it; Sylvia giggled and wriggled about in her blanket, and Clara smiled as she sipped on the mead.
“They’re getting along so well,” Barnaby noted to her in a soft voice.
Clara nodded, taking his hand and squeezing it tight in her own. “I couldn’t ask for anything better for our daughter, Barnaby.”
After a while, when the sky grew dark and Sylvia had all but fallen asleep in Professor Kettleburn’s arms, he handed the baby back to Clara and pressed the Fwooper feather in her hand.
“Remember what they’re best used for?” he quizzed them suddenly.
“Quills, right?” Clara guessed--it had been a long while since she had actually last interacted with magical creatures.
“Correct, Miss Lin,” Professor Kettleburn chuckled. “But now they’re also best used for a baby toy. Cherish this well, will you?”
“We will.” Barnaby nodded and took the feather, pocketing it in his cloak.
“And...well, I don’t have much--” Professor Kettleburn walked over to his rucksack again and rummaged through it. “I wasn’t expecting visitors, you see. Christmas time tends to get lonely for me here.”
“No, Professor, it’s alright--”
But Professor Kettleburn didn’t listen to their protests. He eventually emerged from his case after a brilliant jet of fire emerged from inside, followed by a Murtlap’s screech--and in his hands he had a well-knitted golden warm jumper, fit for Sylvia.
“I originally made this for one of the Porlocks in my case, but it had grown so big that this doesn’t fit anymore,” Professor Kettleburn explained. “So this is my Christmas present to your daughter.”
Clara smiled as she took the jumper, wrapping it carefully over Sylvia’s body--she was already wearing a baby Niffler-print onesie, but a little extra warmth for the journey back wouldn’t hurt.
“We got you this too, Professor,” Barnaby said then, pulling out a scrapbook full of photos. “Our magical creatures care centre at home, and all the memories we made with our friends in it.”
Professor Kettleburn’s eye darted from left to right, left to right, as he flipped through the book and saw all the glossy colour photos in there. Just like his case, the care centre was just like a little zoo, with a grand variety of creatures receiving the best care when taken in. There was a nest of Nifflers splashing around in a heap of gold coins; a branch of Bowtruckles drinking a solution of crushed woodlice mixed in water; a herd of Abraxans and unicorns recuperating from broken limbs; and a few mooncalves snacking on their feed. More creatures filled the page, with a few pictures of Clara, Barnaby, Liz, Charlie, and some of their other friends coming around to visit. So many of his students did not choose magizoology as their central career, yet they always made time to come around and foster their passion for the creatures, just as he had imagined. He chuckled as he glimpsed all the faces in the book, and he hummed in contentment once he reached the very last page.
“Thank you both,” he finally told them. “I will cherish these memories always. And thank you for introducing me to Sylvia. I cannot wait to see her grow up into a fine young lady.”
“We hope you don’t mind if we visit you often with our children,” Clara suggested to him. “Once they’ve grown up a bit more, we’ll definitely visit you more.”
“That would be wonderful.”
Eventually, as Clara and Barnaby left the tavern, hot flasks of Butterbeer in Barnaby’s hands while Clara wrapped Sylvia tight in her blankets, all of them felt a radiating warmth within them--from a simple smile of the sleeping baby in Clara’s arms.
For today they have finally known each other, grew close like grandfather and granddaughter, with the hope that one day she would carry out the legacy her namesake created.
