Michael Landon, 32 anni fa
Michael Landon, 22 anni fa.

[cw child abuse in the form of corporal punishment/spanking]
Fanworks are endlessly fascinating to me. For some reason, I started watching Little House on the Prairie at breakfast — mostly as background noise as I slowly come out of my sleepy haze. Out of curiosity and habit, I looked it up on AO3 to see what kind of fanfic it has inspired. One thing I found and did not expect (though perhaps I should've) was a relatively popular series of shorts depicting some of the male characters spanking their children. Mind you, this is a T-rated series, and I don't think there's anything sexual in the text. I didn't read the fics because I think they would make me uncomfortable, but I read some of the comments and it seems people enjoy the parent/child dynamic in a situation of wrongdoing and punishment (physical, but never crossing the line into cruelty). There were mentions of "guilt release" for the child, as well as the father feeling guilty over the spanking. People talked about the care and love the fathers demonstrate after the punishment, the general mix of comfort, love and control. I think the appeal is the father's demonstration of power over the child, the restrained physical violence, and the notion that punishment is a form of love.
Of course it makes complete sense. LHOTP is the TV equivalent to sentimental literature, where this kind of dynamic isn't uncommon. It reminded me of The Masochistic Pleasures of Sentimental Literature by Marianne Nobles, specifically the section about Elsie Dinsmore, and Philip Greven's Spare the Child (Nobles includes quotes from Greven's book and a father's account of his masochistic daughters, who ask him to physically punish them as proof of his love, as taught to them in a Protestant school).
Anyway, I wanted to find out if LHOTP actually depicted any spanking, because it seemed that at least some of the fics were depicting missing scenes — situations where corporal punishment was implied but not depicted. I'm not completely sure, but I think there was never an explicit depiction, which is why the fanworks exist.
There isn't any point to this post, I just find the whole thing fascinating, especially the general reactions to the fics. Fans seemed to find them comforting and sweet, and I think they were invested in the aftercare as much as the punishment itself — not very unlike sadomasochistic sexual play.

15 questions for 15 mutuals
I was tagged by @simolemons, @satellite-sims, and @spaceapples98. Omg I feel so lovedddd 🥺🥺🥺🥺 thank you!
Are you named after anyone? Yep! I'm named after Laura Ingalls-Wilder, the writer of the Little House on the Prairie books. My mom was obsessed with the books and the 70s TV show for some ungodly reason. Fun fact, I hate LHotP with every fiber of my being. I'm fine with my name though.
When was the last time you cried? Oh God, it's been a turbulent few weeks. Pick a time, I've probably cried. 🙈
Do you have kids? No. Wait, let me rephrase that. GOD NO!!!!
Do you use sarcasm a lot? I feel like this question is a trap. I want to speak to my lawyer.
What sports do you play/have you played? I am not a sports person. I guess I have dabbled in the sweaty arts for fun every so often when I've lost my mind, but I've never really played on a team or a in a league or understood most sports on a basic level. Is the Sims a sport?
What’s the first thing you notice about other people? Probably their voice and their tone and the way they ask me what I'm doing in their house.
Scary movies or happy endings? It really depends on what is meant by "scary movies" because I don't do gore at all. Like Saw and shit? Absolutely not. Absolutely. not. But I do like suspenseful supernatural horror movies as long as there isn't much gore involved. I think I prefer movies with happy endings given a choice between only these two but I wouldn't say no to a good old fashioned bittersweet ending.
Any special talents? I can whistle really well. I practice a lot when I'm alone. I don't whistle for other people often because, funnily enough, despite your skill level, people find it incredibly annoying. Actually maybe being annoying is my special talent? 🤷‍♀️ Also I can do this thing where I can vibrate my right face cheek (I have to specify for you freaks) and make a sound like a horse. It's only the right face cheek, not the left. I don't know why.
Where were you born? Virginia! We didn't live there long after I was born so I don't really remember it but I've also lived in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. Southern through and through!
What are your hobbies? Sims, writing, writing for my Sims, Sim-themed writing, procrastinating writing Sims stories, miscellaneous video games, crafts, complaining, jewelry making (I'm not good at it, don't get excited), researching cults, and fashion doll collecting.
Do you have any pets? Sadly, no. It's kind of a struggle taking care of one person on my income but I'm hoping to save enough to where I can get a kitty or two and be reasonably comfortable with vet bills. I really, really, really love cats. I'm an orphaned cat lady at the moment.
How tall are you? 5'2" (roughly 159 cm). Smol, but not too smol, right at shin-kicking height.
Fave subject in school? English. Honestly liking any subject in school was a struggle because I was homeschooled and my mother is The Worst™ but English and Vocabulary and Creative Writing were my jam despite her best efforts.
Dream job? Are we talking realistic dreams or unrealistic-obviously-never-going-to-happen-but-I-like-to-fantasize dreams? If it's the former, I'd like to be an editor. If it's the latter, I'd like to be a professional kitten-cuddler.
Eye colour? Light green, bordering on light blue, but still obviously green if you look close. Kind of sea green, I guess. I've always struggled to describe my eye color and other people do, too. It's weirdly in between green and blue. If I were to remove my glasses and stare at you like 👁👁 you could very clearly see they're green, but otherwise, with my glasses on just looking at me like a normal person, you would be forgiven for thinking they're light blue. I'm not trying to be ✨unique✨ or anything; this is just what happens when your mom has blue eyes and your dad has hazel eyes and genetics just gives the fuck up.
I think most people have done this tag while I'm on semi-hiatus but let's just throw some names out there and see what sticks. 😈 @happy-lemon @monets-pixels @hurricanesims @moyokeansimblr @oasislandingresident @hazely-sims @treason-and-plot @ts3strayastray @miss-may-i @ktarsims @sharssims @amphoraeus @brannewjoint @autonomousllama @nocturnalazure

Hi!! Please share your top five favourite shows! 🤠
Hey anon, thank you for asking, sorry I took so long to answer, it was really hard for me to choose since my taste in TV shows changed so drastically over the last couple of years. I was thinking of going with more modern shows I enjoyed in the past, that I used to consider my "all time favorite shows" like Succession or Westworld, but the truth is, if you want an authentic answer, I should be answering with my current favorite shows because the longer I thought about it, the more I realized that, especially Succession just isn't holding the same joy it used to hold to me, and I haven't watched it in a long time. I think, to be an "all time favorite show" you need to enjoy rewatching a show even years after you first saw it. So, here are my current top 5 tv shows.
1. MASH
Need I say more? Honestly one of the most entertaining shows I've seen in a long time, and I think it's a real shame that growing up my parents never introduced me to it, let alone watched it themselves (I know that bc one time my dad saw it on TV and tried guessing what M*A*S*H stood for 🤪)because it has such an important message, I think it's especially great because it's one of the only shows I watch in both english and german because the dubbing is just THAT good
2. Little House on the Prairie
Another one my parents failed to show to me that I think I missed out on growing up because the lessons learned in each episode are so important and I think it's just overall a really well done show. There's not a single character I would say I dislike, like okay there are some I might enjoy more than others but overall I just think they're all very fleshed out, authentic characters. I also enjoy the overall dynamic of the characters interacting with each other like one big family.
3. Highway to Heaven
Honestly the amount of times this show made me think about my own self, my "privilege" and the way we as humans should be interacting with each other and the nature around us is amazing. I can't believe it was made in 1984 because I keep seeing themes that really resonate with "modern" problems like the climate crisis or inclusivity and being reminded that those are not 21th century problems but something humanity has been dealing with since at least another century. The theme of this show is so hopeful and inspiring that I actually feel it's impact on me, and the way I started behaving around others. It's also one of the only tv shows to make me cry which is really an accomplishment (okay to be fair MASH and LHOTP did that too)
4. Columbo
Ha ha, funny police man, solving crimes, has a cute dog, drives beat up car, bamboozles the murderer, very smart actually, need I say more?
5. Dead Mountain / Перевал Дятлова (Dyatlov Pass)
Holy cow, I've never seen a show like this one. The cinematography, the music, everything felt so refreshing and new. I think it's a very good interpretation of what might have happened during the Dyatlov Pass incident, it really plays around with all the theories and concludes with the most logical/ scientifically proven scenario. I wish more people knew about this show but given the political situation in Russia I do understand how it could slip under many peoples radars, still a shame it'll mostly likely disappear into the unknown, although I did managed to buy a copy on DVD

Another classic LHOTP episode (btw for those who don’t know, aka most of you, this means the ones they don’t air on TV but do so on steaming): Charles goes to but horses in another town for his friend -or random neighbor never seen him before doubt we will again, potentially not even in this episode. Why? To buy horses for him from some drunk man who insists Charles stays at his house while he fucks off. Charles sees this neglected family and his Pa instincts kick in so strong it uncomfortable. Like the way he’s taking such an interest in this his kids and wife -in that order like is not illegal or anything- it just strange and slightly deranged.
