First Title In A Series Of Upcoming Vinyl Releases From Van Halen With Sammy Hagar Era

Van Halen's first live album -1993's double-platinum Live: Right Here, Right Now will make its vinyl debut on Record Store Day as a limited edition 4-LP set. Recorded in May 1992 as the band was wrapping up their massive world tour in the support of their classic, triple-platinum album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, the collection finds singer Sammy Hagar, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony firing on all cylinders and delivering over two hours of Van Halen's signature hits.

LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW Will be limited to 7,500 copies on 180-gram translucent red vinyl and available exclusively at select independent music retailers on April 22 for $99.98.

The vinyl collection has all 24 songs from the original CD release, plus three additional live recordings. This marks the first time that audio for two of the tracks ("The Dream Is Over" and "Eagles Fly") will be released, as they were previously available only on the DVD version of Live: Right Here, Right Now. The third, "Mine All Mine" was recorded in the summer of 1993 during the second leg of the tour and was previously released as part of a European CD maxi-single for a live version of "Jump." All tracks from the original live album were newly remastered from the 5150 Studio master tapes by Bernie Grundman, who also cut the lacquers.

The new vinyl verslon of LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW Is the first Van Halen reissue that focuses on the Sammy Hagar-era. It also kicks off a serles of upcoming vinyl releases spotlighting Van Halen's time with Hagar, which will be overseen by the band's long-time engineer Donn Landee. Additional information about those releases will be announced in the coming months.

LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW debuted 30 years ago, on February 23, 1993. The collection peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold more than two million copies in the U.S. alone.

The group filmed and recorded LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW across two shows at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California on May 14-15, 1992. The result was a concert album packed with exhilarating live versions of Hagar-era hits like "Why Can't This Be Love," "Dreams," "When It's Love," "Finish What Ya Started," "Right Now" and "Runaround." The album also includes live versions of earlier Van Halen anthems like "Panama" "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love" and "Jump."

LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW gives each band member a chance to shine with Alex Van Halen's pummeling drum solo, Michael Anthony's "Ultra Bass" solo, and Hagar's acoustic version of his solo hit "Give To Live." One of the show's biggest highlights is Eddie Van Halen's ripping guitar solo. For more than 10 minutes, he lives up to his reputation as the ultimate guitar god with a solo that touches on some of his best- known instrumentals: "316," "Cathedral," and "Eruption."

A few weeks ago Parannoul shared a new song called "Painless", which follows on the heels of their first 2024 loosie, "Gold River", and Scattersun, their collaborative LP with the cloud rap collective Fax Gang. "Painless" is another stunning shoegaze song that builds from nonchalant strums into a colossal composition stacked so significantly with a plethora of effects-laden guitar presets that it's a miracle it doesn't topple over. The music veers from verses containing little more than sparse acoustic guitar and piano to blown-out, distortion laden hooks that are bludgeoning but cut with just enough melody to strike that keen balance between abrasive and immediate that they always manage so well.

The music continues to build in intensity over the course of its 5 minutes and change runtime, culminating in a soaring crescendo that lands somewhere between chaos and catharsis. On "Painless", Parannoul's still operating within their tried and true, skybound sweet spot between shoegaze, emo, and post-rock, but while this lane has grown familiar by this point, not unlike the last few MJ Lenderman singles it's hard to feel disappointed by results this well-realized. Even if LP4 is nothing but more of the same, Parannoul has proven time and again that they've have plenty of compelling things left to say within these specific sonic parameters.

More Information on Artist Claims

Hello artists! After a few weeks of focusing on writers, it is time to shift gears to your to-dos. 

Claims open March 4th at 10:00 AM EST and will remain open throughout the event as more artists join the Big Bang. 

Please be aware that matches will be made on a first-come, first serve basis, meaning that artists with strong preferences toward certain fics should submit their forms early. 

How will claims work?

Excellent question, my friend. 

The blind summaries document has been made available to everyone through our Discord as of February 23. Please refer to the #hxhbb22-summary-list channel to access that link. 

As everyone has hopefully noticed, the summaries have been organized by main character groups and pairings (Main 4, Leopika, and so on) and that each of these groupings has its own summary code (MF1, LP4, etc.). 

On March 4th we will make a Google form available to everyone with five spaces, in which we are asking that you submit the summary codes of your top five fic choices in descending preference order. That is, you will place the summary code of your number-one choice fic in space 1 and the summary code of your fifth choice fic in space 5. 

It is imperative that you submit your form using only the summary codes provided, as not all fics have titles yet. 

If you do not submit using the correct summary codes, you will be given one reminder to resubmit your claims form correctly before we move on. You will still be assigned a piece to draw for, but you will be last on our list of outstanding claims and we cannot guarantee you will be matched with one of your top five. 

I’ve submitted my claims form, now what?

After we have received your form submission, the mods will set to work to match you with one of your top five choices. Exciting! 

Matches will be made on an ongoing basis, so please be patient with us! 

Once you have been matched with a writer, you will receive a DM from one of the mods alerting you of your assignment: 

If you have elected to be a collab artist, your alert will include contact information for your writer along with your assignment. You may begin to work with your partner as soon as you’d both like! 

If you have elected to be a non-collab artist, you will still be getting a match notice, but you won’t receive a link to your writer’s finished piece until May 13th, after completed stories are due.

"To the fans:⁣ I know that 5-6 years is considered a long time between records. Personally, I think it’s a dignified pace befitting a band that’s already placed three albums in stores but everyone has their own sense of time. (I swear the time between 3 & 4 felt shorter to me than 2 & 3. I may be in the minority on this one.) ⁣ ⁣ This album didn’t really take any longer to write/record than MVOTC. We just took more time on the front end to chill. I’ll admit I may have stretched out the mixing/mastering process (aka THE END) a little bit cuz spending half the day with my family & half the day at Ariel’s is my ideal life-rhythm & it’s painful to say goodbye to that rhythm.⁣ ⁣ Many of you have been hungry for information and we’ve given you very little. I don’t like talking abt a project while in the middle of making it. I usually regret everything I say cuz it turns out to be wrong (so disregard anything I may have said in the past 5 years.) I thought abt making a recording diary to tide over the people leaving intense comments but…to me, the album IS the recording diary…man.⁣ ⁣ It’s called “FOTB” (well those are the initials - that’s a VW tradition) and it’s 18 songs. LP4 news: A new song called ‘How Long’ has been registered under EK’s name in ASCAP’s repertory.

This was one of the 5 new songs from LP4 played at VW’s Metro show in Chicago in August & includes a lyric along the lines of “how long ‘til i sink to the bottom of the ocean”.

Being registered with ASCAP doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll be a single; it could be intended to be used in commercials, TV, movies etc. (or it could be both 🤷‍♀️).

The other credited writers are William Shelby, Leon Sylvers, & Stephen Shockley (Dance/pop, funk, and R&B/soul writers & performers from the 70s and 80s), which means that the song probably includes a sample or interpolation of a song (or songs) they’ve written.
