Black Voters Matter Issues Statement Following the Release of Body Cam Footage Of The Deadly Beating Of Tyre Nichols
Tumblr media
Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown, Co-Founders of Black Voters Matter and April England-Albright, Legal Director of Black Voters Matter issued this statement following the release of body cam footage of the beating of Tyre Nichols by Memphis Police
“Tonight, we witnessed the brutal beating and murder of 29-year old Tyre Nichols at the hands of the Memphis Police Department.  Tyre should be here today like countless others who lost their lives to police violence and its destructive impact. Our hearts go out to the family of Tyre Nichols and we stand in solidarity with all those who fight against police brutality.
“Since the inception of this country, the brutal torture and murder of Black people has been put on display and more normalized. More recently, every year additional names become a viral hashtag, and another family and community mourns the loss of a loved one.
“Tyre’s family and community members have called for several actions, including naming all officers and public personnel who were on the scene, disbanding aggressive task forces such as the SCORPION Unit which murdered Tyre, andpassing police accountability ordinances.
“Charging the individuals who murdered Tyre is a step in the right direction, but more than individuals, an entire system is GUILTY AND MUST BE ABOLISHED.”

Audience with a Tyrant
Tumblr media
Paige and Phillip were nervous the entire trip to Cirilia. Paige kept fidgeting and biting her fingers and her brother had to hold her hands to get her to stop.
Latosha, Christopher and their kids got out of the carriage. Talida looked at them. She stood next to a forty-five year old man. He had black hair and brown eyes.
"Aiden," Latosha said. "Queen Latosha," he nodded and he looked over at the tower with a frown. Talida gave Paige and Phillip a worried look. They weren't the only ones to visit the Darkmount tower. And far as they knew, all meetings went surprisingly well.
Paige gripped Christopher's hand and he kissed his daughter's head to calm her down. "Good luck, young royals," Aiden said. Phillip nodded before he and his family walked over to the entrance.
Paige noticed the troops standing by the entrance. They had weird visors on their faces. A large door opened and the Evarans walked into the tower. The halls were light gray with bright purple curtains and blue flames that lit up the hallways.
"For a warlord, he's pretty fancy," Phillip huffed. "Mhm," Latosha nodded as she noticed black curtains with white markings. She remembered that they were called Decepticons.
Knockout walked over to them.
"You must be the Evaran royals," he chuckled. "Yes," Latosha nodded. "I'm Knockout- Decepticon medic. Lord Megatron has been expecting you," Knockout chuckled before he turned and led the family further down the hallway. They walked up to a large door before Knockout opened it.
Paige widened her eyes. The room was spacious. The walls were painted gold with silver lines. There were three silver curtains draped on both the left and right sides of the walls. It didn't have a window but there was a large red chair in the middle of the room.
And on the other side, there was a couch big enough for the entire family to sit down so they did just that.
Paige looked around the room. The air felt a little chilly.
The others had told her about their meetings with the warlord and all of it had gone from intense to scary and now it was just quiet.
The door opened and Paige looked over, startled. Phillip followed her gaze and blinked. It took a full second to realize it was him, the monster who destroyed billions of lives and enslaved just as many. But he was... small.
Rather than the titanic, building-sized Emperor, Megatron was almost the size of a human, barely seven feet tall. However, he was still as intimidating as ever. His broad, jagged shoulders filled the threshold, his sterling silver armor was polished and glinted in the artificial light, deadly claws flashed as they were tucked behind his back. His crimson optics were like smoldering coals, dim and almost memorizing, but dangerous to the touch. His razor-sharp fangs reminded Paige of a Bolnorth before it lunged for the kill.
She swallowed and tried her best not to stare at the warlord for too long.
"I hope I did not keep you waiting, your highness," Megatron said, his optics landing on Latosha.
The Evaran smiled. "No, not at all... your Exellency," she said calmly, "honestly, we were waiting for you."
Megatron smiled and he nodded as he walked over to the red chair and sat down. Paige heard the furniture creak under the sudden weight but she doubt it would break.
His optics landed on her and her brother. "You must be Phillip Payne and Paige Kendrick," he began, continuing in a seductive drawl, "a Hero of the Universe and a Warrior of the Novae. I am impressed."
"Thank you, your Exellency," Phillip hummed. "Yes... thank you," Paige stammered. Megatron chuckled, "in truth, when I first began to rule over your kind, I merely thought the same as I did any human. Insects."
Christopher's jaw clenched and Latosha gripped his hand.
"But," the warlord continued, "you have proved to be interesting creatures. You have powers and technology that almost surpasses my kind's. You have won battles and wars among yourselves."
"With respect, your Exellency, that credit surely goes to my children," Latosha said, gesturing to Phillip and Paige. Megatron smirked and Paige tried not to flinch as she saw his fangs glint.
"I know," he said, "I would like to have a word with them. Alone."
Latosha narrowed her eyes as she stared at him. She glanced at her kids. There was no way she was going to leave her kids alone with this tyrant. Phillip gently grabbed his mom's hand and she looked at him.
The gentle but firm and assuring look on his face silently told her two things: don't protest... and that he and Paige would be fine.
She glanced back at Megatron who was watching them with a predatory gaze. She swallowed before she and Christopher got up slowly. Paige looked at them nervously and watched as they walked out of the room.
"Your mother is very protective." She looked back at Megatron.
"U-uh... yes," she said quickly, "she really loves us." "I see," he chuckled, "I was also told that you, Paige, are Dual-Blooded."
Paige felt her muscles grow stiff and she looked at him. It took her a moment for her to find her voice. "Y-yes, your Exellency," she choked out, "Evara and Irilia."
"And you were chosen by Poseidon?" The warlord said, curiosity in his tone. She nodded, swallowing hard. Megatron hummed and he leaned closer, enough that all he had to do was reach out and slice his claws into her flesh.
"Is that why you only control fire and crystals?" "It, um... the water is only something from Poseidon himself," Paige said quickly, trying her best not to look away, "having three powers is completely unlikely among our kind."
Megatron stared at her and she stared back at him. A bead of sweat ran down her temple. The warlord chuckled before he leaned back.
"I see," he said, "then perhaps you have sated my curiosity."
Phillip relaxed, silently letting out a breath he realized he wasn't holding. He gave Paige a proud smile, proud that she held her own against the emperor.
"I... I am glad, your Exellency," she said, her voice soft. "I look forward to seeing your skills then," Megatron said as he stood up. Before either teen could ask what he meant, he walked out of the room.

Curse of the Divine- Chapter One: An Ordinary Policewoman
Tumblr media
{Paige's POV}— I was walking down the street, hands stuffed in my pockets. It was a particularly chilly night and I figured rain would come by soon.
People walked past me. I could feel their eyes on my back but I ignored them.
In my left pocket, my hand fiddled with an old necklace that I had been keeping. I hesitantly pulled it out of my pocket and looked at it.
It was a silver cross and I sighed. I leaned against a lamppost, staring at the necklace.
In truth, I was never really sure if I could believe in God. And even if I listened to Christian music or wrote Bible verses, I would do it out of spite.
I frowned deeper and held the necklace close to my chest. Thunder rumbled distantly and I glanced up at the clouds.
I chuckled slightly, "what message do you have for me, Zeus?"
Of course, I wasn't going to get an answer. I was a fan of Greek mythology. And sometimes I imagined that I could talk to gods.
That I could talk to the entire Universe.
Sometimes I wished that I could get an answer. My phone buzzed and I looked at it before I took it out and saw that a friend of mine was calling.
I sighed softly before I answered the phone. "Hey, George," I said.
"Hey, Paige," he replied, "everything okay? Didn't see you at work yesterday."
"Yeah," I replied, "I asked the boss if I could take the day off."
"Ah," George sighed, "well... I don't wanna handle a case by myself, y'know."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. George and I worked in the Los Angeles Police Deparment. We worked on cases and catching criminals.
But in all honesty, I was starting to get bored with my job. As dangerous as it was, it wasn't as easy as everyone made it sound.
Maybe I was just used to being in the 'working in the case' phase. Mostly because the commissioner, Icelyn Wright, had given me that position. For my own safety.
"If it's any consolation, you'll be working with Erin," I said with a small smile. George made a sound of protest and I couldn't help but laugh.
In time I've known George, he and Erin never got along. They weren't even allowed to be on missions together because it would involve them arguing.
And the Commissioner didn't need that.
"There's a thousand other policemen and policewomen to work with, mind you," George huffed.
I laughed again as I walked into my apartment. Closing the door behind me, I knelt down as my four dogs came over.
The first dog was a German Shepherd male named Poseidon. The second dog was a Golden Retriever male named Hades. The third dog was a Poodle female named Persephone and the fourth dog was a Pitbull female named Athena.
I had a Maine Coon male named Odysseus and an Egyptian Mau named Orion.
"I'm gonna call you back, George. But I'll be sure to make it up to you," I said, rubbing Hades' head.
George huffed but I could see the smile on his face.
"It's a date," he said playfully. I rolled my eyes, "bye."
He chuckled, "bye." I hung up and I look at Poseidon who was staring at me as if he was saying, 'he's not right for you.'
I chuckle and playfully ruffle his fur. "What do you know? You never got a date," I said playfully. He barked softly at me in response as I walked over to the couch.
I turned on the tv and sat down. Orion hopped up on the couch and climbed into my lap. I chuckled softly as I ran my hand along his back.
"In other news," the reporter said, "there have been sightings of black creatures in the woods. Whether they're human or animal is unknown."
I almost rolled my eyes and decided to change the channel. I looked at a picture of my parents and my twelve year old self.
My mom and I walked into the police station. "Hey, Latosha," a woman said and I looked up at her.
She was my mom's age. She had light brown skin, red hair and brown eyes.
"Hey, Amber," Mom chuckled, "where's Icelyn?"
"In her office," Amber said and she looked at me, "who's this little munchkin?"
"Hi," I chirped softly. Mom smiled, "this is Paigey."
"I thought I heard the voice of my most trusted lieutenant," Icelyn piped up as she walked over to us. I looked up at her.
She was an inch taller than my mom. She had porcelain skin, icy blue eyes and brown hair. She looked at me and knelt down, "hey, Paigey Paige."
"Hi," I replied with a happy smile.
I stared at the picture.
My mom and dad were part of the LAPD and Mom was Icelyn's lieutenant and best friend.
When they were killed in a shootout, Icelyn took her time in raising me. Granted, I didn't make it easy for her because of my autism and because I was too new in the Police Department.
Wherever I went, people looked at me with pity. And I hated it.
I sat in the Commissioner's office, glaring at my bruised knuckles. I got into a fight with Erin after a patrol-gone-wrong.
Icelyn walked into the room and she sighed, rubbing her face. "I don't know what to do with you sometimes, kid," she said, "everyone knows I can't kick you out- I could never do that to you. But you can't let your emotions get in the way of the job."
"It wasn't my emotions this time," I said bitterly, clenching my fists, "Erin-"
"I already talked to her," Icelyn said firmly, "in the meantime, I'm assigning you to a partner."
I snapped my head up to meet her stern gaze. Then the door opened and I looked to see a twenty-two year old man.
He had ivory skin, blonde hair and green eyes. He looked at me, "hey."
"...hi," I replied,  furrowing my eyebrows a little.
"Meet George Kane," Icelyn said, "he will be your partner when you're working on cases."
I was brought out of the memory when Poseidon suddenly started growling at the door.
"Poseidon?" I said, furrowing my eyebrows. He didn't move immediately as he continued growling at the door.
The hairs on his neck stood up and he was baring his teeth slightly. Orion suddenly hissed.
I got up and walked over to the door. I looked through the keyhole and I saw a man standing in front of the door. He had porcelain skin and brownish-black hair but I didn't see his face.
I stared at it for a few minutes before I slowly unlocked the door and opened it.
"H-hello?" I said cautiously. The man turned and I saw his deep brown eyes.
"Hello, my dear," he said with a smile. I frowned, "um... may I help you? Why are you standing in front of my door?"
"I was hoping you could... help me," he said. I frowned deeper.
What could this man possibly need my help with?
Before I could say anything, a searing pain rushed through my head and Poseidon barked at the man.
I groaned as I held my head. I tried to get Poseidon to stop but my dog started to whimper. I looked at him and he was backing away, tail tucked between his legs and ears flat against his head.
He was scared. The other dogs, Orion and Odysseus scurried into my bedroom.
"Wh-what...?" I groaned and I looked at the man. His eyes were red.
I narrowed my eyes, "who... who are you?"
He reached out and firmly gripped my wrists. I hissed as he leaned down. Our faces were mere inches apart.
He whispered something in my ear but I passed out in his arms before I could fully comprehend it.
