Voter suppression is Republican101.
Making voting more difficult in certain neighborhoods and certain counties is how conservatives play unfairly.
Not everyone waits 10 hours to vote, but you can almost guarantee those who do are in a Blue county or Blue Campus in a Red State/Swing State.

Police forced an elderly woman out of her home in her night gown to punish her for legal registering citizens to vote.
They raided all these homes to scare Latinos away from voting and to stop legal voter registration of American citizens.
Don't let Republicans get away with this, Texas. Register. Check your registration every week. Turn out to vote.

Make no mistake- this is voter suppression.
A couple years back, a new law was voted in: voters would have to show very specific ID in order to vote. This was to try and limit the number of people who could vote.
Two days ago, the UK had an election. An estimated 200,000 people who tried to vote couldn't because they didn't have this very specific form of ID. Greenpeace posted a few examples- including a veteran trying to show their vet ID, which I'm pretty sure was supposed to be one of the valid ones, and one of the very politicians who voted this into law. Also, Boris Johnson.
instagram
(go to this post to see some examples)
It looks like the general election this year will be taking place after my birthday, so I should be eligible to vote. I'll be 18, a British citizen- I should be able to vote. That is a right I have and denying me that right is limiting democracy.
I am too disabled to get a driving license. Luckily, I have a passport, but that's the only valid form of ID I've got that they'll allow. I can't help but wonder how many people haven't got the money to update their passport that's now out of date, people with new legal names who haven't updated their passport yet, other people who can't drive and don't have a passport for some other reason...
This election, it was an estimated 200,000 people. How many will it be in the next, much more important general election?

Trump Lost Voter Suppression Won
By Greg Palast/ HartmannReport/ January 24, 2025 A guest post by Greg Palast for the Hartmann Report Trump lost. That is, if all legal voters were allowed to vote, if all legal ballots were counted, Trump would have lost the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Vice-President Kamala Harris would have won the Presidency with 286 electoral votes. And, if not for the mass…

The Trump-Vance ticket’s promotion of, what PBS News calls a “false racist rumor” is essentially an attempt to, “rally xenophobia in a very quick way,” as Sociology professor Anthony Ocampo put it. In fact, many are worried that we may begin to experience the kind of lethal violence we’ve seen rain down on Blacks across the nation during election seasons in earlier periods of American history.

Is 2024 the Last Election Women Can Vote If this Plot To Strip Women Of ...
This has some really important info.
I was not aware that voter ID laws disproportionality affect women. In some states, you can be asked to present your birth certificate alongside your driver’s license, but if your birth certificate doesn’t match your ID exactly, you can be turned away.
Most married women take their husband’s last name and thus would be affected by this. Also, it is apparently required by law to formally change your name with your state even when you’ve been married. It’s technically illegal (this may vary by state) to just start using your husband’s last name.
Apparently it’s never enforced, but this content creator is concerned that in the states with the strictest voter ID requirements, the states might start enforcing this type of thing in order to keep women from voting. Considering, of course, that women are expected to be the ones who will turn up to vote in droves due to all the anti abortion laws being enacted and the talks of a nationwide ban being the next step in the republican playbook. Because they think those damn women should just shut up and do what they’re told. And it’s not right that some of them can still travel out of state to get an abortion. /s

The 2000 election was also largely lose due to what was transparently voter fraud on the GOP's account: GOP officials blocked recounts, and physically assaulted people working on recounts. Protesting and direct action are incredibly important to protect our futures.
With Kamala/Walz going up DAILY, I've seen more people talking about voting third party/Jill Stein (EW) and I believe the above screencaps from @three--rings can explain WHY Third Party votes NEVER work NOR is this the election to screw around in.
Everyone....like she says above.....PLEASE LEARN FROM HISTORY!!!
(Because if Trump gets in, he's NEVER LEAVING).

Again: What Pisses US voters off for just a week every four years? The Electoral College!
“A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated [tasks].” – Alexander Hamilton, describing the founding fathers’ vision of the Electoral College ~ [I was going to do a piece on Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission, the reason why you have to suck some…

If voter "boycotts" would disempower the government then why the fuck would systemic voter fraud have been part of USA history since it's inception? Why pass laws that ban or suppress voting by race, and try to exclude entire demographics in need of civil rights progress from voting at all?
I know the US government acts like a corporation but it’s not.
Not voting isn’t the same as a boycott. Because you can’t bankrupt a government by not voting. All you get by not voting is less control over what the money is doing.
The money comes from taxes, not voting. Abstaining from voting does nothing to reduce the governments ability to get money and spend it on shit.
So yes, sometimes you vote to reduce harm because not voting WILL NOT REDUCE HARM.
It’s not a boycot. Abstaining doesn’t take power from the government. It just reduces the number of people they feel answerable to.
