man i hate apple i feel like 99.9% of the misunderstanding around community labels could be solved by just having the default setting for mature-labelled content be "blur" instead of "hide" but the fucking app store policy on mature UGC is literally:
If your app includes user-generated content from a web-based service, it may display incidental mature “NSFW” content, provided that the content is hidden by default and only displayed when the user turns it on via your website.
and i'm certain they know, they know that the majority of people don't change settings for things. but they're apple and it's their app store, and the number of people using iOS is too high to ignore, and the only browser (currently) available on iOS is quite frankly the worst one still in common usage, so your options are:
shoot yourself in the foot financially by not having an iOS app (after having already shot yourself in the other foot by starting a social network in the first place)
comply with apple's decree and make your entire platform behave the way they want it to
sucks man.
#and then i look like a fucking pearl-clutcher going around and saying mature labels' best feature is hiding stuff from kids#when people are understandably annoyed that it hides stuff from people who do actually want to see it#but i can't just tell everyone to adjust their content settings because *the iOS app isn't allowed to have those settings*#LIKE. READ THE POLICY VERY CAREFULLY. IT SAYS WEBSITE. if you put the setting in the app they will reject it

#we are lady parts#walpedit#saira sherwani#sarah kameela impey#sairaedit#ski*#walp compilation#walp s1#walp s2#my edits#my gif#parallels#this actually started off as just a basic saira in plaid gif compilation#but i had waaaay too many of those (lol) so it kinda accidentally turned into#*s1/s2 parallels but with more than just the outfits#i mean the parallels in the first and second gifs alone???!#saira inviting amina to be in the band#vs saira asking momtaz if she'll take them back#TOTALLY an accident but i got so excited about it that i decided that's what the gifset is gonna be about#there's saira being out on the street handing out flyers for their guitarist audition and of her laughing with the others vs saira walking#to their rehearsal space to find out they're getting evicted and and of her just walking outside alone while homeless#the last ones being saira interviewed by zarina and saira signing a deal with the label.... we know how well those played out#regarding the plaid shirts there was only one that didn't feature in both seasons - the one she's wearing when they go find amina#in the first episode. you know the amina puking her guts into the charity collection bucket scene (and saira's very normal reaction to it)#i don't know if it's her favorite but she wears the one in the third gif A Lot - there's eight gifs of her wearing it in this set alone#she also has two red ones but it's the one in the first two gifs that she wears more#anyway! this is a gifset a normal person who is normal about saira (and her plaid fits) would make 👍#(i only made two new gifs for these btw the rest are all from my saira in every episode sets)

i sent in a suggestion to the jellyneo Book of Ages offering to increase the brightness on some of the screenshots they're using for minor characters in The Darkest Faerie. I have a feeling they're going to turn me down because ive edited the images from how they appear in the game, but literally all I did to these was increase the brightness
please jellyneo... its hard enough to see these characters in game when they aren't surrounded by white negative space; i think having them be visible on their character profiles would make a lot of sense. also it takes like 10 seconds for me to edit each image
#also asked if npcs like these could be labeled as 'minor characters'#because there's a tickbox for 'include minor characters' on the searchbar; but NO characters from TDF are labeled as minor#so you get all 297 of them no matter what when you're searching for characters featured in the game#and the majority are like. some guy named Brenneth who wanders around meridell city & has 3 lines of dialogue if you happen to speak to him#neopets#neopets tdf#jellyneo

tumblr has been doing this fun thing called slapping content labels on my perfectly ordinary drawings where nothing out of the ordinary is illustrated. they're also doing this fun thing called not telling me they're doing this so I have to randomly stumble upon my art censored with a content label when I'm just trying to scroll through my blog and wonder if I reblogged something inappropriate in my sleep, only to find out that I fucking drew that. and it's not inappropriate

#segmentation of the customer even#this is why charming acres and 1950s features the way it does#1950s popularized the image of the self-contained upwardly mobile nuclear family#the game is rigged#extended family living was increasingly framed as backward immigrant or rural#suburban nuclear family became a national identity project and it survives in marketing materials and specific targeted consumerism#consumerism Cold War ideology and gender roles (housewife breadwinner etc.)#bc from a business perspective splitting extended families into individual homes was a gold mine#not owning a home not having a perfect family unit needing help from relatives staying with your parents past 18#or relying on community all became loaded with stigma#the use of words like codependent and socially incestuous applied liberally furthered the agenda#pop psychology gets over applied#they’re often over-applied in contexts where people are simply staying close surviving together or choosing mutual care#what gets labeled as pathology is not weird at all and historically common and culturally valid… it’s just not as profitable#making them question bonds that may be loving supportive and necessary#thinking about this a lot being more embedded in an extended network again#anyway spn does this well!#abusing the lower class then calling them Weird for huddling together when upper classes are in fact the ones who are flagrantly nepotism#when in fact upper class is Weirder and 9-10 times the one salivating over the Idea is upper class#i feel like if you miss this you miss Everything#surburbia is weird and isolating on purpose

unpopular opinion but elain and nesta are not part of the inner circle. they all chose feyre. nesta alienated literally all of them, and just because she’s found her peace with some of them doesn’t make her an IC member. nesta chose her own IC, gwyn and emerie. she is not part of feyre’s IC.
elain has no friends.
that’s not a dig at elain it’s a fact. az isn’t a friend, he’s been turned in a love interest. she’s not friends with rhys or cass or mor or amren or the valkyries.

i try to not be a hater about it but i genuinely do feel mild contempt for like 90% of very ... that one specific type of anime-like art style... eyes the size of the moon nose nowhere to be seen lips swallowed a long time ago what are we here for what are we fucking here for. ok sorry it can look good sometimes maybe idk. but the style has to stand out. & i mean i never like it when the nose is a mere dot. but i guess sometimes i can tolerate it. but holy fuck

....Andor S1 is kinda a slog to get through. I still have 4 episodes left, and then a whole other season 😭 I'm trying REALLY HARD to finish the show (or at least the first season) before making a judgement, but this is.... not really Star Wars. I would liken this show to Game of Thrones mixed with the Hunger Games, and some added visual/set elements from Bladerunner. Star Wars is like Lord of the Rings, not Game of Thrones. I'll share more complete thoughts when I finish S1.

A detail I love about Farscape is that it went with a Star Trek universal translator approach to explain how our regular human protagonist can understand all of these aliens by injecting him with microbes that take over your brain (this is normal).
What makes this so fun to me is that it's brought up in different ways—my favorite being all the little cases where the translation fails on idioms and references, as it's revealed by the alien characters repeating what they heard the human say.
#farscape#aeryn repeating john's saying of someone giving him the willies as giving her ''a woody'' is kind of a classic to me#it's giving google translator fails#stargate started out with language barriers and while there are some alien languages sprinkled in here and there#they kind of dropped it pretty quickly for the convenience of everyone speaking english for the shows#but afaik never bothered to explain why & how everyone just suddenly understands each other??#it's a small point that only bothers me because they did put in the effort for the movie and the occasional episode that features languages#but then just dont explain or insinuate that they're not actually speaking english (which is my headcanon for atlantis at least...)#i like to imagine they had to learn ancient for the expedition just in case (be that contact or just being able to read labels lol)#ctrl+s

Donors to No Labels are starting to fear that the third-party group missed its window for launching a much-hyped presidential bid and are questioning whether to make future financial commitments to the organization.
Those fears have intensified after two high-profile No Labels candidate targets — former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat — passed on the chance to run for president, and as the party’s planned April presidential nominating convention approaches without a clear ticket in place.
“No Labels just missed one heck of an opportunity to potentially be viable, and now I don’t know that they can be viable,” said Jim Teague, the CEO of a Texas oil and gas company and a No Labels donor. “I don’t know who they can possibly get to run that would generate excitement that Joe Manchin would have generated,” he said, adding that it’s “pretty doubtful” he will donate to the organization in the future.
