I know that a lot of people do not like reading books, but I cannot recommend buying needle lace books enough if you can’t go to classes. Especially if you’re interested in SPECIFIC lace traditions and not just general stitchery. The diagrams make it much easier to follow (in my experience) than other crafting books. I highly recommend all the books lynxlace does (which is unfortunately only available via web archive now), though it can be difficult to find them as essentially all of them are out of print or published independently on demand.

ADDENDUM: Burano specifically has DVDs. So if you’re interested in traditional Italian lace, that’s a very good alternative.
