Demonslayer vol 2, #8, is super pretty so I thought I’d share some of my favorite panels from it.

Igor Grom #3-5 is written by Alexey Zamskiy, translated by Tatyana Omelchenko, art by Denis Popov, pencils by Artem Bizyaev & Natalia Zaidova [#3], Ivan Ilyasov, colored by Artem Bizyaev & Maria Vasilieva [#3], Natalia Martinovich, and cover by Lada Akishina & Anastasia Kim [#3], Marina Privalova. I find that Igor Grom is different in feel to the start of Major Thunder. I do not necessarily hate it, but it took some getting used to. I did find it difficult at first, until roughly #3, because I found it very, ehhhh, dour. It is picking up a little, yet I feel its reliance is less on the main character and more on the plot. Dima may be my most favorite character currently in the series, however I like “Russian cafe AU: Ms Frizzle,” as I call her. I do not think I would stop reading it, but I feel like Igor is in a rut as a character. While I appreciate his struggle of “omg headstuffs”, I feel like its dragging. That isn’t to say that the plot is dragging, although it is a little, but rather that as a character, the plot continues on with or without him. I have seen this a couple times in fiction and it is always frustrating. It is a bit of the Batman Syndrome: the detective / hero character becomes moody and depressed, the story becomes perpetually dark, and there is no reprieve. Yet it continues on and on and on. This was the reason why I stopped reading Marvel, especially their Avengers series. Too often everyone was angry or miserable. The entire atmosphere was painful to read. I worry that Igor Grom will not learn to pick itself, or himself?, back up.  I am far from stopping this series, but these are simply my concerns )

Bubble Comics: Second Wind
At the end of December, Bubble announced about retitling of their comics. First of all it’s going to change the format of stories. The life of most of the main characters changed and now they need to move forward.
Today Bleeding Cool presented summaries and exclusive covers for the new issues by Mateus Santolouco.
Allies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: Spy drama Writer: Natalia Devova Artist: Alina Erofeeva Colorist: Victoria Vinogradova First issue cover: Yulia Shevtsova Variant cover: Mateus Santolouco and Marcelo Costa Nika Chaikina was the best in her field: a master thief that became a secret agent, she has completed many successful missions around the world and saved the planet from the forces of evil multiple times. But in the end the evil won. Nika had lost everything she fought for… She will never get her old life back but she must move forward. Now she has to gain back her strength, overcome the pain, defeat her inner demons – and begin the new war. Because the evil keeps growing: a powerful corporation wants to control all the people with superpowers and establish the new world order. After surviving a personal tragedy Nika can help people that gained superpowers to cope with changes in their lives – and avenge herself. But first she needs to put together a team. She is going to need allies…
Demonslayer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: Action horror Writer: Alex Hatchett Artist: Anastasia Kim Colorist: Lada Akishina First issue cover: Natalia Zaidova Variant cover: Mateus Santolouco and Marcelo Costa Hell came to Earth! Vicious Antichrist has united all the legions of Hell under his banner, and now our world faces great danger! But the mankind is under the protection of Demonslayer – perhaps the greatest hero in its history. After taking on a mission of saving the planet, Demonslayer gathered a team of like-minded individuals that help him fight forces of evil! Little imp from Hell called Sneak, the shaman Black Hound, the witch Queen of the Rot, the homeless girl Yana and the living nightmare Balor that lives inside her mind – this magical squad doesn’t look like your typical heroes but they are the last hope of the Earth in the face of the demon invasion!
Igor Grom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: Detective thriller Writer: Alexey Zamskiy Artist: Natalia Zaidova Colorist: Maria Vasilieva First issue cover: Ilya Kuvshinov Variant cover: Mateus Santolouco and Marcelo Costa Major Igor Grom was the best policeman of Saint Petersburg… until the war on crime didn’t break him completely. Grom had lost a woman he loved, his friends and colleagues – and, worst of all, he lost himself… But Igor isn’t giving up. He pulls himself together and gets back to what he joined the police for – helping people and saving Saint Petersburg. And even after falling to the very bottom he is going to open his city from new, unpredictable sides and see right into its dark soul. Maybe that’s where he will find the answers he’s looking for.
Realmwalkers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: Fantasy adventure Writers: Roman Kotkov and Evgeniy Fedotov Artist: Anna Rud Colorist: Anastasia Troitskaya First issue cover: Ivan Elyasov Variant cover: Mateus Santolouco and Marcelo Costa We’ve got two kinds of news: a fantastic one and an even more fantastic one. First of all, our Earth is just a part of the Collar of Worlds that consists of many parallel worlds. And, second of all, the gods that you read about in myths and legends actually exist. And any world that they visit will be destroyed in an apocalypse! But don’t worry: there are heroes that will not let that happen. The universe is protected by the Realmwalkers – the mighty warrior of the ancient lineage Andrey Radov and his wife Kseniya that can control plants and their friend – the former Ivan Tsarevich who transformed into the Grey Wolf. Whenever one of the Earths gets a divine intervention, our trio immediately races to help! And their coordinators in this journey are the deathless ruler of Eden Koschei and Vasilisa the Wisest that observe the Collar from the edge of the Universe. Each new world is unlike the previous, each new monster is more dangerous – but the Realmwalkers are no weaklings either. They have magical abilities and incredible weapons – but the most important thing they have is themselves. Together this team can defeat any enemy and save all the worlds from annihilation… if they don’t get tired of each other first…
Here’s how the four variant covers slot together… and Mateus Santolouco at New York Comic Con!

Demonslayer Vol. 2 #5 is written by Alex Xatchett, translated by Danila Evstifeev, art by Denis Popov, pencils by Anastasia Kim, colored by Lada Akishina, and cover by Natalia Zaidova. I do really, really enjoy Tsafuran. I am thoroughly enjoying Demonslayer Vol. 2. Since the Time of the Raven, I think Demonslayer may be my favorite BUBBLE series; solid all around. I think my current “If you should start somewhere,” I would say start here.
Allies #5 is written Natalia Devova, translated Tatyana Omelchenko, art by Denis Popov, pencils by Marina Privalova, colored by Yulia Loganova, and cover by Yulia Litvinova. This is quite a switch. I do not know if these characters have shown up before, because I have not read all of Red Fury. I found the characters, however, fairly interesting. It took a bit to understand their situation, but I do not entirely dislike this direction.
Realmwalkers #5 is written by Evgeniy Fedotov & Roman Kotkov, translated by  Danila Evstifeev, art by Denis Popov & Anna Rud, colored by Anna Sidorova, and cover by Alexander Malyshev & Anastasia Troitskaya.  Similar to Demonslayer Vol 2′s #5 issue, this was a little bit of an inbetween issue. Both are good, certainly, but the story is still going, if you get my meaning. It’s not an outstanding issue, but it’s... Not bad. It’s just more of the story.
I will say, I noticed this time around some difficulties with the translation. Sometimes, issues are well translated with no English errors. For whatever reason, this round had several problems. Some are naturalistic errors--sentences that sound awkward or cumbersome, such as “Why cannot I open a portal from this place?!” versus “Why can’t I open a portal from this place!?” and other times, are grammar issues: “He’s been around here a moment ago...” versus “He was around here a moment ago...” I do not nitpick on the translations much, but I still think it’s noteworthy that it exists. My second frustration is not likely with BUBBLE at all, but rather with Comixology. The first era comics--Major Grom, Exlibrium, Friar, Demonslayer vol 1, Meteora, and Red Fury--are not publishing to Comixology. Why this is is unknown, it seems, among us fans, but so far signs point to an issue with Comixology and not BUBBLE. This is making it difficult to recommend these comics because I do not know when issues #9 will come out. This is very depressing because some of the stories are very good. Currently the only way to get further into the story is to read it in Russian, which is much more difficult for Americans.  I love era 2, but I very much want era 1 as well. :(

Demonslayer Vol. 2 #3 is written by Alex Xatchett, translated by Danila Evstifeev, and art by Denis Popov, Anastasia Kim, Lada Akishina. Cover by Natalia Zaidova. The crew end up in one of my more favorite places in the Demonslayer side of the Bubbleverse. I love seeing the different demons. Pavel remains.... Pavel.  Realmwalkers #3 is written by Evgeniy Fedotov and Roman Kotkov, translated by Danila Evstifeev, and art by Denis Popov, Anna Rud, Anastasia Troitskaya. Cover by Ivan Elyasov. We get to see a little more into the mysteries of Andrey. I am unsure who I like more: Andrey or Wolf >) Allies #3 is written by Natalia Devova, translated by Tatyana Omelchenko, and art by Denis Popov, Alina Erofeeva, and Victoria Vinogradova. Cover by Yulia Litvinova. I am unsure of what to say. This is a “the plot continues” type issue. Action happens, etc etc.  I have been enjoying post-TotR Bubbleverse, although when they finish with pre-TotR, I worry I will miss some things: Exlibrium, Servolk... I am grateful that they have both pre- and post- translating at once. I am a greedy reader!)

Island #1, Allies #1, Demonslayer Vol. 2 #1 Island #1 is written and art performed by Brandan Graham, Emma Ríos, and Ludroe. My one suggestion is: do not read this digitally by pdf. It may be okay through the Comixology app, but I purchased this through a Humble Bundle and had a pdf and I found that my brain had a lot of trouble reading this as a result. Layout was terrible. I find this true for a lot of pdfs of comics from Image. This is no issue with the comic itself, but a point I feel to make because it does lower the enjoyment. I have decided that I really dislike comics through pdf and prefer physical copies. Which is sad because overall, I really enjoyed this. It’s a bit of a chaotic comic. I’m not sure how to recommend it. I suppose if you ever liked Flight you would likely enjoy this. I would be interested in reading the other issues but in physical form.
Allies #1 is written by Natalia Devova. Art by Denis Popov, Arina Erofeeva, and Victoria Vinogradova. Translation by Tatyana Omelchenko. Oh boy! Okay, so I have read some of Red Fury, which is what comes before Allies and I was not a fan. However, I did really enjoy this issue. The art is better, which is a problem I had with Red Fury. I enjoyed the story in this issue as well. It makes me want to read the next issue. So I actually do recommend this one. You do not need to have read Red Fury.
Demonslaver Vol 2 #1 is written by Alex Xatchett. Art is by Denis Popov, Anastasia Kim, and Lada Akishina. Translation by Danila Evstifeev. I will admit that, in English at least, the name is a bit confusing. I think of this as Demonslayer 2.0. This is, like Igor Grom and Allies, is post-Time of the Raven series. Demonslayer Vol 2 is referring to a second part of the series. This does not continue from Demonslayer #8. I have had several people ask me this already. Like with Allies and Igor Grom, you can start here instead of starting with Demonslayer #1. Similar to Allies and Igor Grom, you will miss important stories, however the bonus to this is that you begin with some really good characters. In Demonslayer, I feel like there is much more wait time to get to some very popular characters in the series. Whereas Demonslayer Vol 2, you start out with them all already there. This is not necessarily negative, but depends on what you want. If you are like me, you’ll just read both. I recommend all of these.
