[Once the sun sets and the breeze becomes crisper, Daisy casually walks over to the lakeshore and draws a convoluted sigil with her fingers on the sand, a baroque interlocking of symbols that induce a headache if anyone were to stare at them for too long.

It’s a fairy simple spell, but the patch of lake that Emery cleared out is far too broad for Daisy to use her ribbon for this party trick: She digs her fingernails into her palm until she draws blood and presses her hand to the sigils.

It starts slow at first, like the sun coming up; flecks of shimmering turquoise glow lap at the shore from her hand onto the water, traveling in waves until their entire lakepatch is lit from beneath like a pool, warm like a pool, swirling and shifting and casting everything in strange blue shadows.]
