Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Propaganda Submissions
Below you will find all of the submitted and approved ships for the Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Tournament along with the form to submit further propaganda at the bottom
This is another opportunity to submit propaganda for your favorite ships. Wether you were unable to submit propaganda for them in the initial form or you spot your favorite ship who has no propaganda submitted. Ships with a strikethrough have propaganda submitted, I will continue to update this post as propaganda is submitted. I will accept further propaganda for ships with already submitted propaganda but please prioritize those with out.
The goal is to have propaganda for all ships but I understand that may not be possible. Therefore I will be leaving the form open for a few weeks to see if we receive propaganda for at least half the ships.
Note: Please reach out to me if you spot any mistakes in character or fandom names, even if it is only formatting or spelling issues.

WITH TIME AND ENERGY PREVIOUSLY NOT KNOWN TO ME. I ARRIVE. GNAWING ON THE BARS OF OUR CAGE.
Something flickers on his face, and Larry thinks that if he asks, Shi-Long would tell him. He thinks Shi-Long doesn’t want him to ask.
Wolf. Wolf. I think you sent me this line before but in context it's even more. Ough. When I realized that this day at the hot dog stand was, specifically, the first day of AAI2 I went a little crazy because the fucking. alienation. of Lang being so close and so far - in his previous life he'd surely be right there in the middle of things, but he's not, and the president's speech is close enough that he could walk down there himself but the metaphorical distance is still the same whether he's there or if he's there in a hot dog stand.
We’re all living with the consequences of a story we don’t know.”
^^ THAT'S ACE ATTORNEY, BAY-BEE.
He knows that’s part of why Nick’s getting the respect he is, when it feels like every day someone else gets caught with forged evidence, an honest lawyer is a rare sight in this city.
Wolf I am in your walls. I'm in your fucking walls chewing on the insulation.
Dirty Paws - Chapter 17
We're getting in AAI2 everyone!

Larry leans against the wall to catch his breath, looking out at the crowd that has finally abandoned his stand and lets out a huge sigh.
“You’re doing this for Sissel.”
“Fuck you.” Larry tells Shi-Long without venom, “I know I told you to remind me of that but fuck you.”
“I could have helped you clean this place out-”
“You have a bad leg and helped me move a couch!” Larry whirls on him, where Shi-Long sits in the back of the stand, legs propped up and undoubtedly reading fanfic on his phone, keeping him company. “and it wasn’t that hard just…”
“You’d moved, gotten a cat, and been accused of murder in the two weeks before it?” Shi-Long offers and Larry rolls his eyes.
“Life goes on. And trust me, tax collectors do not care how bad your life’s been, so I need this to make money.” Larry reaches up to run a hand through his hair, “at least until…” He pauses, words dying on his tongue and chest getting tight.
“Until?”
Larry swallows hard, “until I get published.” That makes Shi-Long lower his phone, to look over at him, eyes softening.
“You’re a fantastic writer Stripes. Elise thought so too.”
He nods jerkily, because there’s not a lot, he can say to that, other than that the thought of getting published hurts. He’d given her agent the okay to publish the book they’d been working on, but he hadn’t heard back about that yet. Takes time. He knows they’ll want him for that, he wishes he had Elise here for that, to guide him through his first press tour.
But he’s on his own now.
He closes the window a moment, to come sit by Shi-Long, who immediately leans into him, Larry takes the comfort as best he can when they’re both crammed into his small hot dog stand, trying to sell hot dogs, and just get through today.
Larry looks over to Shi-Long’s phone, “Are you rereading my fic?”
“It’s good.”
Larry manages a smile at that at least, brief but manages one. The fanfic is at least easy to write, the words coming easy, when the mere thought of his own original story makes all creativity stop. When all he can think about when he goes to write is the support he no longer has.
They sit in silence a bit, Shi-Long pulls up what looks like a news video of the press conference happening in the park, but the scrawl is in a language Larry can’t place. He squints at it and then asks, “Shi-Long?”
“Yeah writer-boy?”
“Where are you from?”
He gets a warm chuckle in response, sharp eyes flickering to him, “Oh?”
“I… you sent me a message once, in a different language, and I think it’s the same language as that, and I’m a dumbass American, so I don’t know what language it is, so…”
Shi-Long is silent for a moment before he sighs, “I’m Zheng Faian.” At Larry’s blank look he explains, “the Republic of Zheng Fa.” He nods to his phone, “that’s our president speaking.” Something flickers on his face, and Larry thinks that if he asks, Shi-Long would tell him.
He thinks Shi-Long doesn’t want him to ask.
So, he just nods, and trusts that Lang will tell him when he’s ready. He returns to running his hot dog stand.
He pauses, and slowly leans out the window, “hey.”
“Hey what?”
“Didn’t we have more balloons?!? I think someone stole one!”
--
It was clear that Wolf was done talking about his past, and he turned the question on him. “What about you? I remember you and Firebirdstorm explaining the Clan thing to me when we were younger, but what is SpiritClan’s story?”
Orangestripe paused, his mouth parted slightly, “I… I don’t know. The older cats in the Clan just sort of act like we’ve always lived here, but there was…” he stirred the dirt with his paw, “the war with Spark. And Spiritstar’s aunt… There were things that happened that no one wants to talk about and I don’t know why.”
Wolf sighed out his nose and looked off, towards where SpiritClan’s camp lay, “perhaps you should ask your Clanmates. It sounds like these are things you should know.”
Orangestripe sighed himself and nodded. “I think I know who to ask too.”
--
“Is this a dig about me asking you for your Clan’s lore?” Shi-Long is laughing though and Larry grins at him, leaning against the counter, no one has come up for hot dogs in a good twenty minutes, so Larry’s been writing on his phone but passed it to Shi-Long to charge it since the battery started getting low.
So of course, he reads it, and now they’re teasing and Larry’s chest feels lighter than it has in a bit. “And I thought of this really cool idea for why the Clan uses the name spirit a lot, and why despite living in the middle of nowhere with no other Clans around they have the Warrior Code!”
Shi-Long arches a brow and grins, “well, I look forward to reading it.”
Larry shoves off the counter to go get a bucket and wipe things down, something to do to pass the time. At least he’s made a decent amount of money today, which will pay his and Sissel’s bills. He doesn’t want to ask Shi-Long or Edgeworth for help.
Not yet. He’s got his savings and shit, he’ll be alright, so long as he isn’t stupid about not working or something like that.
Shame writing fanfic doesn’t pay the bills.
Larry’s mentally trying to figure out of there’s a way to get a Patreon set up without violating Ao3’s ToS and probably scrubbed the same spot for the past minute when he hears a firework go off.
The next thing he knows he’s on the floor, a heavy and warm body pressed against him, Shi-Long’s face twisted into a snarl, the hand that’s not holding him off Larry down at his belt. At his gun, Larry’s brain helpfully provides, as he registers that he’s lost the American game of Gunshot or Firework, but also that Shi-Long is pressed against him.
He goes still under Shi-Long, neither of them moving before he breathes out and relaxes, “fuck.” He turns his head to look to where his phone lays on the floor, “I think that was at the speech.”
Larry should say something, anything really, but he’s still processing that Shi-Long’s immediate response to hearing a gunshot was to shove him to the floor before he blurts out something stupid, as he’s prone to doing. “Wait, so you can get shot but-”
Shi-Long snaps his head back around to stare Larry dead in the eyes, his face inches from Larry’s, “no, Stripes, you are not allowed to get shot.”
Larry stays there for several seconds, even after Shi-Long shoves himself back up to his feet, very smoothly for someone who probably shouldn’t be putting weight on that leg. He’s only pulled out of it when Shi-Long’s hand comes into view.
“Come on,” he pulls him up, “let’s see what the news has to say.”
He’s still a little shaken though and is grateful when Shi-Long doesn’t say anything about how he leans into him to watch the news.
--
“Feathersong?” Orangestripe’s voice was hesitant as he paused at the entrance to the elder’s den, “Feathersong are you there?”
It did not take long to spot his former mentor, she had raised her head from her nest to look up, “oh, Orangestripe. Come to visit, have you?”
He slipped in, shaking his pelt off before he sat down, to curl his tail around his paws, grateful it was just the two of them, “I had a question. Well, several, and I thought you might be… willing to answer.”
The she-cat blinked gently at him, “I will always be happy to mentor you, Orangestripe, what do you want to know?”
He swallowed and spoke, “where did SpiritClan come from? And why did Spark’s group hate us so much, that he would kill Stonespirit and kidnap Sharppaw? So much happened, I don’t- I don’t understand, no one talks about it, but…” He flattened his ears as he saw the trepidation on her face, “please. We’re all living with the consequences of a story we don’t know.”
Feathersong considered his words, and sat up, to wash her fur, “no. You are right, you deserve to know.” She stretched out, Orangestripe shifted to the side so that she could, before she settled in her nest again, “there is so much we have failed to tell you all. We hoped, I suppose, to protect you. To leave it all behind, but… we are named SpiritClan for a reason.”
Orangetripe’s ears pricked up, but he held his tongue, Feathersong got a distant look in her eyes, looking past him to recall this story.
“You see, I was born before SpiritClan, during the first war with Spark.”
-- “The what?”
“Fuck’s sake Shi-Long.” Larry about jumped out of his skin, he was still a bit on edge after the shooting, even if it seemed no one had been injured, so he’d been writing on his phone, it was his hot dog stand, he could take a fifteen minute break to write Warrior Cats fanfic if he wanted, it was his coping mechanism.
He had not expected Lang to lean over his shoulder and read his fic.
“Sorry Stripes, just happened to see ‘the first war with Spark’, what lore are you dropping?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know Wolf-boy?”
Shi-Long flashes his crooked smirk again, and Larry grins back, and he finds he’s less shaky now, “listen, I will let you read it first, but you have to let me write it all so I can hit you with it to make sure it lands right. Sounds cool, and not like an ass pull.”
Shi-Long throws him a thumbs up and sits back down, “that I can do. But I do have a question.”
“Yeah?”
“Who’s Feathersong? Like, if I’m Wolf, and the pretty-boy prosector’s Demon, then…”
Larry shakes his head with a shrug, “she isn’t anyone really. She was just an OC. I might’ve based her a little off a teacher I had, in like, grade school, before I rewrote the damn thing. She’s… I’m making her a bit more like Elise, shit, uh, Misty, these days, because well…” He trails off, but he doesn’t really need to say it. She was his mentor.
Shi-Long gives him a moment and then prompts, “anyone else in there someone I should know?”
Larry is relieved that Shi-Long, even in person, loves to encourage his ramblings, and he claps his hands together, “well, Spiritstar was Mia Fey, a defense attorney, she was… she was really nice and was great for Nick, I- God I don’t want to kill her, man, it feels nice that I can have her here and watching Nick like she should’ve gotten to.” He doesn’t think about Mia, he tries not to at least, to think about how she can summon her sister for Nick but there’s no one to summon her for her. He swallows hard, “And Cherrywing is her sister, and Nick’s other best friend, Maya. Splashpaw’s Maya’s younger cousin.”
“You are going to get sued.”
“I’m not making money off this, get off me.”
Shi-Long barks with laughter at that, and Larry grins, picking up steam, “Darkleaf ended up working out for someone, uh, the guy who murdered Misty.”
“Figured that one.”
“That’s… a story itself, but uh, otherwise, they’re all just OCs for padding out the Clan. I’m attached to a few of them, but otherwise they’re just like Thornclaw, just the guy who’s always on patrol or whatever. They’re not important.”
“Canon.”
Larry grins, and shoves Shi-Long before he gets to his feet to head back to the counter and lean against it, “oh. There’s Stonespirit. That’s based on Edgy’s dad, he…” He pauses and looks at Shi-Long guiltily, “I don’t know that I should tell you that story, that ones more Edgy’s than mine. Just, he died when we were younger and the whole, Spark killed him and adopted his son thing did happen.”
“I do know about Manfred Von Karma.”
“Good.” Larry bites the word out, and sees Shi-Long’s look of approval, agreeing with his bitterness, his protective streak and it’s nice, it’s vindicating, “I am so glad I could write him into a fic and brutally kill him, like, he’s Franziska’s dad and all but fuck him. But yeah, this whole thing started because I was kinda, coping with that, because when you’re nine and your best friend’s dad gets murdered…” he gestures with one hand, “sucks!” It does a lot but he doesn’t have the words nor desire to talk about it, “I’m forgetting someone…” He pauses and tilts his head to think. “Oh. Timber and Bird are two detectives that Edgy knows, they’re good and support him, and it’s a low bar but these days not enough clear it, so yeah, they do their jobs and they’re good. Dapplepaw’s Kay of course.”
“Not Crowpaw?”
“I thought about it, but I was thinking Dappleshade for her? I really liked the sound of it, and she feels like such a tortoiseshell.”
Shi-Long nods as though Larry isn’t saying some of the weirdest things out of context, “and uh, Beetlelight! That’s it.”
“Who’s he? I know he’s shown up once or twice in the fic but…”
Larry pauses, his eyes narrowed, “I… I don’t know, is the thing? I barely remember him in my own fic, honestly but I know he used to be someone. I think he used to be someone? I’m too attached to him to remove him at this point in any case.”
“Do you not have notes?”
“I mean, I do now, but I originally wrote this fic when I was like, twelve. You read the original one, you know it wasn’t great!”
“I liked it.”
Larry gets a stupid grin, and ducks his head, “yeah, well, thanks Wolfman, but it was rough. I’d know, I reread it to rewrite the damn thing. Originally wrote a lot of it in class instead of focusing on learning. There wasn’t a plot, other than the happy ending I wanted.” He waves a hand again, “that Edgy would come back and we’d be the three muskateers again and Nick would…” Larry trails off, he doesn’t want to think about what Nick got like when he thought about Edgy back then. “Honestly, our parents probably shoulda sent us both to therapy, but hey.” He grins at Shi-Long, “I got an international furry out of it so-”
Shi-Long flips him off and Larry pretends to catch it like a kiss, both of them laughing, the tension breaking and easing, and Larry is so, so, glad at least this fantasy played out close to what he’d wanted when he was a kid.
Of getting to meet WolfDragon and getting along.
Their banter is interrupted by Shi-Long’s phone ringing, he grabs it and gets to his feet, “boss calling.” He steps out the back, already answering, and Larry’s chest hurts slightly at the sight of his back.
He doesn’t know when they’re gonna be able to meet up like this again.
He goes back to wiping down the stand, he’s got nothing better to do after all, until Shi-Long gets back. It seems most people have left, probably been herded off to see who could give statements, and then sent home so investigations could proceed.
“Well, hey stranger.”
Larry looks up with a grin, “should I be grateful you’re not just stealing my hot dogs?” Kay grins back at him brightly.
“I am not that kind of thief! I only steal from the corrupt, so that the hidden truth can be brought to light.”
A sentiment Larry knows well, when so much has been hidden by those tasked with seeking justice lately it seems. He knows that’s part of why Nick’s getting the respect he is, when it feels like every day someone else gets caught with forged evidence, an honest lawyer is a rare sight in this city.
“Yeah well, what are you doing here?”
“Buying hot dogs while Edgeworth talks to people, I needed a snack.”
Larry raises his brows, “oh he’s here?” He doesn’t want to go bother him while he’s working, he doesn’t have anything to add, but if he’s working he might appreciate someone checking on him, “sounds like that whole thing is a mess.”
“Yeah, no kidding. And I think they stole one of your balloons…” Kay looked over, and Larry bites back a curse.
“So that’s where the daang thing went.” He sets a hot dog in front of Kay and waves away payment. She’s one of Edgy’s, and a kid. With no other clear parental figure around. He’s not taking money from her.
“Yup. Hope you don’t want it back, it’s evidence. And also got shot. People keep talking about some Gourd Lake monster?”
Larry sets another hot dog down, “ask no more questions.”
Kay’s grin widens and she eager accepts both hot dogs, biting into the first one eagerly, “oh whoa! These are good!”
Larry gives her a dirty look, “my skills aren’t just limited to larping the Steel Samurai you know.” She laughs, and leans against the stand.
“Did you see who nicked your balloon?”
Larry shakes his head, with a grimace, “I have terrible luck with balloons and this stand.” He sees Kay’s eyes light up at the information and hurriedly presses again before he can be pressed on that, “if I’d seen anything I’d let you know but there was a lunch rush, and then basically nothing. I think I saw an ice cream stand at one point, they might’ve seen something since they’re closer but I’m too far away to see anything. I did hear the shot but that’s about it.”
“How many shots did you hear?”
“Just one?” Larry pauses to think about it, “we were watching a stream of the speech too, so I might’ve heard two, or that might’ve been the stream?” He was a bit distracted, since he’d thought it was a firework, and then, you know, been tackled to the floor.
“We?” Kay prompts, standing on her tiptoes to see further into the stand.
Larry pauses, eyes flicking about wildly, “yeah, I have an assistant in here, Edgy isn’t the only one who can get some help you know!”
At that moment, Shi-Long comes back in, “that went better than expected.” He sounded cheerful, as he drops back to his old seat and flips open something on his phone, “but I’m going to be busy the next few days Writer-boy, something else came up.”
Kay’s eyebrows raise at what was clearly Shi-Long Lang’s voice, and her grin widens at writer-boy. She gives Larry a mischievous look, but there was something else to it, like she’s trying to piece something together or tell him something with it.
Larry just silently sets another hot dog on the counter.

seamoon - fresh fuzz
V1 1973
“ So if you want an extensive history of Seamoon, there are a couple places to look online. The first is A/DA's history as Dave Tarnowski began his career at Seamoon. The second one, that Gearphoria printed, specifically focuses on this pedal, the Fresh Fuzz. Reverb won't let me post the actual website info, so you'll have to do a little digging, sorry. This is BY FAR, one the most unique, elusive and RARE fuzz pedals in existence. There are 2 variations of whats known as the "V1" era of the pedal, all of which seem to have been made exclusively in 1973. The earliest Version 1 pedals are extremely rare because most of them shattered upon use (they had a plastic casing). The second incarnation are still pretty damn hard to come by as most people who own them don't want to give them up. By this time, Seamoon abandoned the plastic case of the early Version 1's and opted for the slanted metal casing. This pedal for sale is one of those Version 1's with the newly adapted slanted metal casing. As you can see, it has the same circuitry as those earlier ones, notably the 741 op-amp chip and the perforated, hand-wired circuit board. It's cosmetically impeccable. Sonically, its amazing. You'll read that a lot of people prefer the V2 Fresh Fuzz as they changed to the dual 4558 op-amp, which doubled the power of the V1's 741 chip. “ (Fuzz Wizzard)
“... Fresh Fuzz history a while back, and it looks like late 1973. They had released the Funk Machine earlier that year and it did quite well, so they decided to release a distortion unit under the Seamoon brand as a result. The first version of each pedal was made in a plastic Bakelite box (you can see an example on effectsdatabase, and I have also seen a photo from a guy who messaged me around 2013 about his. Shortly after this, around 1974 they switched to the metal casing you posted there. But not too much later they revised the circuit, making much louder, fuzzier and just better tbh; and they changed up the graphics slightly on the case. It doesn't appear as though they made them for more than a few years in total, as Seamoon switched over to those smaller enclosures in the late 70s and released that Controlled Tone Preamp became the only distortion in their lineup. ...  based off an interview i read with Anderton where he said Seamoon first true release, the Funk Machine, was out in 1973 and that later the same year they released the Fresh Fuzz. ... when i was looking into Seamoon I couldn't find any old ads, or manuals, or print stuff of any kind. “ (Ed Skymall)
“ The Phases of Seamoon      In the early ’70s, Berkeley, California was a thriving hippie community (and in some respects, it still is today) that attracted flocks of creative individuals to its hills. The main campus of the University of California is situated there, and many aspiring electrical engineers came to Berkeley to study. Of course, the San Francisco Bay Area also enjoyed a thriving music scene, and many of these engineers found employment for bands like the Grateful Dead and Santana (Furman, Alembic and Mesa-Boogie are just a few of the companies that got off the ground by making products for Bay Area musicians).      Seamoon  Ltd. was established in Berkeley  in 1973, when Craig Anderton, who later gained fame for his articles and  columns in Guitar Player magazine, and for his book Electronic  Projects for Musicians, solicited a music store in hopes of selling a pedal  he developed. “I had come up with the circuit for an envelope follower that  later became known as the Funk Machine,” says Anderton. “I had a friend named  Larry Schreiber, who was familiar with a music store in Berkeley called Skatzenbag Music. I took it  in there to see if John Lang, who owned the store, was interested in selling  it. He ended up taking it to a NAMM show and got orders, so we decided to make  the thing.”      Shortly  thereafter, Lang founded Seamoon, and started making their first product, the  Funk Machine. The original units featured range and sensitivity controls, and  were housed in a Bakelite box. However, too many overeager funksters crushed  the box with their feet, so later versions were housed in simple aluminum boxes  held together with six screws. The circuit was deceivingly simple.          “It contained two op-amps with an  opto-isolator to do the actual envelope detection,” says Anderton. “It’s that  famous opto-isolator sound that everyone is rediscovering. Because the  opto-isolators are all a little different. Every Funk Machine varied slightly.  It wasn’t anything obvious that would make someone go, ‘Oh, I’ve got to have  this one instead of that one.’ But there was a tiny variation. It was an analog   world, and in some respects that added to the character of the thing. Part of  the testing process was very subjective. If it didn’t work properly, we would  pull the opto-isolator and solder in another one.”Martha  Davis, who later became famous as the lead singer of the Motels, was an early  Seamoon employee who did a lot of the company’s assembly and testing. According  to Anderton, she developed a peculiar method of testing the Funk Machine. “She tested them by running her fingers over  particular parts on the circuit board. By noticing how the hum was affected,  she was able to really nail what was going on with the unit. It was very cool.  Her finger hum testing technique was flawless.”        Soon  after hitting the market, the Funk Machine fell into the hands of several  famous musicians, including Steve Cropper, who bought one of the very first  units, and funk bassist Larry Graham. “He was really big on it,” says Anderton.  “When he was on TV once, he held it up in front of the camera. It was a big  part of his sound.”  Shortly after  designing the Funk Machine, Anderton came up with the circuit for Seamoon’s  Fresh Fuzz distortion pedal. This circuit was a simple op-amp based device with  gain and bite controls.  “It was  really basic,” says Anderton. “It used regular diodes. If I was to design it   today, it would be a lot different.” The unit was a favorite of Tom Scholz, of Boston.  These products remained the mainstays of  Seamoon’s product line through most of the mid ’70s, although the company also   introduced an ill-fated battery-powered solid-state amp called the Peter  Portable.      By  1976, Seamoon had undergone significant changes. Anderton departed the company,  the cosmetic appearance of the products was redesigned and several new products  joined the lineup. However, it was also the beginning of the end of Seamoon and  the dawn of a new company that would carry out Seamoon’s ideals and ideas with  even greater success.      Sometime  in 1975, a young Berkeley  musician named Dave Tarnowski started working for Seamoon. He got the job after  walking into Skatzenbag Music and impressing owner John Lang with his technical   knowledge. “One thing let to another and I started working on some musical  effects,” says Tarnowski. “The first musical effect I designed for them used  early bucket brigade devices from Radicon. These are earlier than the bucket  brigades from National or Panasonic. I actually did some R&D work at  Radicon Corporation. I picked up a few of the chips to see if I could make a  time modulator.”      Tarnowski  designed the Studio Phase, an impressive phase shifter with intensity, shift  and speed controls that originally retailed for $129. Other products in  Seamoon’s line at this time included a cosmetically updated version of the Funk  Machine, and a distortion box called the Controlled Tone Preamp, which featured  volume, tone filter and distortion controls. A product called the Two-Track  Delay was announced in the summer of 1976, but it was never released to the   public.” (adaamps.com)

Betty Davis: They Say She’s Different
Tumblr media
It appears that everything anyone has written for the old Music Aficionado site has now disappeared from the web. A random Facebook post has prompted me to re-purpose this story, written in 2016, about my favorite funketress. **********
To this day, the name Betty Davis – Betty with a “y,” that is – remains best known to connoisseurs of Miles Davis minutiae and ‘70s funk obsessives. While it’s true that Betty played an important off-stage role in the career of the jazz trumpeter, to whom she was married for just a year, and she undoubtedly made some of the best hardcore funk records of her era, she deserves to be recognized beyond the relatively narrow provinces of the jazzbo and the crate-digger.
Uncompromising, intelligent, brazen, aggressive, and not incidentally gorgeous, sexually provocative, and a fashion plate always ahead of the curve, Betty was a prophetic figure. Spawned by the explosion of music, fashion, and alternative culture of the late ‘60s, and by concurrent leaps in black consciousness and feminism, she was a take-no-prisoners singer and writer who presented herself as something new, rich, and strange with her self-titled debut album in 1973.
There were some badass contemporaries working the soul and funk trenches– gutter-tongued diva Millie Jackson and one-time James Brown paramour Yvonne Fair leap to mind immediately – but they seemed to be adapting tropes previously worked by male singers in the genres. Betty still sounds like something new: a tough, smart, demanding woman who reveled in pleasure and insisted on satisfaction, unafraid to claim what she wanted.
Despite the fact that she was associated with some high-profile male musician friends and lovers – beyond Davis, the roll call included Hugh Masekela, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, Mike Carabello, Eric Clapton, and Robert Palmer – she was no groupie or bed-hopping climber. Possessed of her own self-defining vision, she was producing her own records and leading a tight, flexible little band by the end of her brief run.
In 1976, after completing four splendid albums (only three of which were released at the time), she disappeared, not only from the music business but from the public eye entirely. What happened? It’s an old story that many women in the industry will recognize: Her record company didn’t know what to do with her, and wanted her to tone down her act. Betty Davis wasn’t having any of that, thank you, and she hit the damn road.
She was born Betty Mabry in Durham, NC, in 1945. She grew up country, and was exposed to down-home, get-down music early. On the title track of her second album, They Say I’m Different, she runs down the artists who served as inspirations: Big Mama Thornton, John Lee Hooker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert King, Chuck Berry. The blues, in one form or another, is the backbone of her style.
Her family relocated to Pittsburgh when she was young, but at 16 she left home for the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. There she was hurtled into the roiling cultural vortex of the Village. She took up modeling, working for the toney Wilhelmina agency, and began running with a posse of similarly disposed, equally beautiful women who called themselves the “Electric Ladies.” Sound familiar? One of her closest cohorts was Devon Wilson, for many years a notorious consort of Jimi Hendrix known for her freewheeling, outré sex- and drug-saturated lifestyle.
Mabry began to try her hand at singing, and cut a few self-penned singles. They were in an old-school mold in terms of structure, but her very first 45 hints at things to come. “Get Ready For Betty,” a 1964 track released by Don Costa (discoverer of Paul Anka and Trini Lopez and a key arranger for Frank Sinatra), is stodgy early-‘60s NYC R&B to its core, but its message is pointed: “Get out my way, girl, ‘cause I’m comin’ to take your man.”
She also made a stolid romantic duet ballad with singer Roy Arlington and, produced by cult soul man Lou Courtney, a homage to the Cellar, the New York club where she DJed. But she didn’t start reaching the upper echelon of the music biz until one of her songs, a hymn to Harlem called “Uptown,” was cut by the Chambers Brothers for their smash 1968 album The Time Has Come, which also included the psychedelic soul workout “Time Has Come Today.”
The Chambers association probably secured a singles deal for her at Columbia Records, and her first session for the major label was produced by her former live-in boyfriend, South African trumpeter Masekela, in October 1968. By that time, she had split with him: A month earlier, she had married a far more famous horn player, Miles Davis, whom she had met in 1967. Davis and his regular producer Teo Macero would head her second session for Columbia in May 1969.
Those two dates were released for the first time as The Columbia Years 1968-1969 earlier this month by Light in the Attic, the independent label that has restored Betty’s entire catalog to print over the last decade. While devoted fans can be grateful that the work is finally seeing the light of day, it does not make for easy listening, for it was clearly made by people groping in the dark.
Betty’s artistic persona was at that point completely unformed, and so her male Svengalis did their best to mold the clay in their hands, with feeble results. Masekela evidently completed just three tracks, two of which, “It’s My Life” and “Live, Love, Learn,” were issued as a flop single. The homiletic song titles give the game away; the music, straight-up commercial soul backed by a large group (which included Wilton Felder and Wayne Henderson of the Jazz Crusaders and Masekela), has nothing original to say.
The date with Miles is a bigger waste, if a more spectacular one. The personnel couldn’t have been more glittering: Hendrix sidemen Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell; ex-Detroit Wheels guitarist Jim McCarty; bassist Harvey Brooks, studio familiar of Bob Dylan and former member of the Electric Flag; and Davis’ then-current or future band mates Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin, and Larry Young.
But nothing jells. The material is either weak (Betty’s directionless original “Hangin’ Out” is the best of a bad lot) or incongruous (lumbering covers of Cream’s “Politician” and Creedence’s “Born On the Bayou”). Worse, the jazzers are unable to lay down anything resembling a solid soul-rock foundation, and even reliable timekeeper Mitchell blows the groove on more than one occasion. Miles gets impatient with his spouse at one point, rasping over the talk-back, “Sing it just like that, with the gum in your mouth and all, bitch.”
Apparently intended as demos, the failed tracks were consigned to the tape library. By late ’69, Miles and Betty’s marriage was history. She left her mark on his music: She appeared on the cover of his cover of his 1968 album Filles de Kilimanjaro and inspired its extended track “Mademoiselle Mabry” (based on the chords that opens Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary”) and “Back Seat Betty” from his 1981 comeback album The Man With the Horn.
Moreover, she moved him toward the flash style that would dominate his music through the mid-‘70s, by exposing him to the slamming music of Hendrix and Sly and exchanging his continental suits for psychedelic pimp togs. Would we know Bitches Brew, On the Corner, and Agharta without Betty Davis? Maybe, maybe not.
For her part, Betty remained in the wings for a while. She collaborated on demos for the Commodores; in London, she modeled, worked on songs for Marc Bolan of T. Rex, and declined a production offer from her then-paramour Clapton. Drifting back to New York, she met Santana percussionist Carabello. They became involved romantically, and in 1972 she relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, where Carabello’s local connections led to the formation of a stellar band to back her on a debut album.
One reads the credits for Betty Davis in awe. The rhythm section was the Family Stone’s dissident, puissant rhythm section, bassist Larry Graham and drummer Greg Errico (who also produced). Original Santana guitarist Neal Schon, future Mandrill axe man Doug Rodrigues, founding Graham Central Station organist Hershall Kennedy, and keyboardist and ace Jerry Garcia collaborator Merl Saunders filled out the instrumentation. The Pointer Sisters, Sylvester, and Kathi McDonald were among a large platoon of backup vocalists.
Issued in 1973 by Just Sunshine Records, an independent label owned by Woodstock Festival promoter Michael Lang (who also released a set by another unique woman, folk singer-guitarist Karen Dalton), Betty Davis was one hell of a coming-out party. Since her abortive Columbia dates, she had developed a unique vocal attack that could leap from a velvety croon to a Tina Turner-like shriek in a nanosecond. The stomping funk of the studio band backed her up to the hilt.
Like Turner, she was one Bold Soul Sister. The lust-filled opening invitation “If I’m in Luck I Might Get Picked Up” announces that a new game was afoot. The statement of romantic/sexual independence “Anti Love Song,” the lovers’ chess match “Your Man My Man,” and the self-explanatory “Game is My Middle Name” offer up a startling, hard-edged new model of a hard-funking female vocalist.
The album’s most affecting track may be “Steppin in Her I. Miller Shoes,” Davis’ level-headed elegy for her sybaritic friend Devon Wilson, who sailed out a window at the Chelsea Hotel in 1971. “She coulda been anything that she wanted…Instead she chose to be nothing,” Davis sings, implying that route wouldn’t be one she would take herself.
“If I’m in Luck” grazed the lower reaches of the R&B singles chart and the album failed to reach the LP rolls at all, but Davis was undaunted. For 1974’s They Say I’m Different, she took the producer’s reins, which she would hold for the rest of her career. While the backup lineup is less glitzy (though Saunders, Pete Escovedo, and Buddy Miles, on guitar no less, appear), the support is still sizzling; crackling drums and burbling clavinet put over a set of songs that may have been even stronger than those heard on her debut.
No one who hears “He Was a Big Freak” is likely to ever forget it; it’s a startling dissection of a masochistic relationship -- inspired by Jimi Hendrix, and not, as many have assumed, by Miles Davis (“Everyone knows that Miles is a sadist,” Betty remarked later). Almost as notable are “Don’t Call Her No Tramp,” a prescient condemnation of what we now call slut-shaming, and the autobiographical title track, with slicing slide guitar work by Cordell Dudley.
Different and its attendant singles tanked, but Betty managed to maintain her profile with live gigs noteworthy for their uninhibited bawdiness, on-stage abandon, and the star’s Egyptian-princess-from-outer-space wardrobe sense. By early 1974 she had assembled a hot, lean road band that included her cousins Nickey Neal and Larry Johnson on drums and bass, respectively, plus keyboardist Fred Mills and guitarist Carlos Morales. This lineup would back her on her last two albums.
The end of Just Sunshine’s distribution deal liberated Davis, who, at the suggestion of then-boyfriend Robert Palmer, inked with Palmer’s label Island Records. The company released Nasty Gal in 1975, and it may be Davis’ best-executed work. The pared-down backing lets the songs shine, and there are good ones here: The shameless title song, the vituperative blast at the critics “Dedicated to the Press,” and the out-front ultimatum for sexual satisfaction “Feelins” get right up in the listener’s face. The most surprising track is the ballad “You and I,” an unexpected songwriting reunion with Miles, orchestrated by the trumpeter’s famed arranger Gil Evans.
It’s a tremendous album, and Betty supported it with live shows that ate the funk competition alive. A bootleg of an especially out-there set recorded at a festival on the French Riviera in 1976 literally climaxes with Nasty Gal’s “The Lone Ranger,” an in-the-saddle heavy breather that Davis wraps up by feigning a loud orgasm.
One should remember that at this particular juncture, Madonna was studying dance at the University of Michigan.
But Nasty Gal faded with hardly a trace, and Davis’ relationship with Island swiftly became fractious. It’s easy to see why the label declined to issue her final album, originally called Crashin’ From Passion and ultimately released, after years as a bootleg, by Light in the Attic in 2009 as Is It Love or Desire. The collection, which leans heavily on songs about sex, doping, and heavy drinking, includes “Stars Starve, You Know,” an outright condemnation of the games record companies play:
They said if I wanted to make some money
I’d have to change my style
Put a paper bag over my face
Sing soft and wear tight fitting gowns
They don’t like the way I’m lookin’
So it’s hard for my agent to get me bookin’s
Unless I cover up my legs and drop my pen
And commit one of those commercial sins…
 Oh hey hey Island
And that was all she wrote. Until writers began to seek her out in the new millennium as her records became available again, Betty Davis was an invisible woman, one who had blazed a trail that other talents, such as Prince and Madonna, would blaze more profitably after her. She was definitively ahead of her time.
Asked by one writer what she had done since leaving music, Davis, who turns 71 on July 26, responded with the most tragic thing one can imagine any artist saying: “Nothing really.”

Page 6: Since the start of his career Justin Timberlake has endured his fair share of scandals but after welcoming his second son with wife Jessica Biel over the summer and celebrating his 40th birthday, he is confessing that he feels immense guilt about the past and he won't be making the same mistakes in the future -- Justin's done some soul-searching and accepts that he's wronged a lot of people over the years with his own terrible mistakes and he says he's still a work in progress, but step one has been to stand up and admit he's hurt too many women -- in addition to a boozy night out with his Palmer costar Alisha Wainwright in 2019 and his part in the now-infamous Nipplegate incident with Janet Jackson at the 2004 Super Bowl, Justin recently came under fire again due to the documentary Framing Britney Spears which showed him exploiting his breakup from Britney Spears to help his solo career -- Justin's learned from his mistakes and has a lot more sensitivity about the impact of his actions on other people and that's the big difference between the Justin of today and his old, immature self and that self-awareness was evident in an emotional statement that he posted apologizing to both Britney and Janet for the errors in his ways -- his words drew praise from his wife Jessica who says he's come a long way as a husband, a father and more importantly, a human being
Page 7: Wendy Williams is on the prowl for a new man and he's got to be husband material and she is ready for a serious commitment -- Wendy's been staying up until all hours of the night checking out guys online and on exclusive dating apps and she wants someone age-appropriate, fun, kind, independent and of course has no history of cheating -- she's feeling very optimistic and even buying new perfume and clothes and jewelry for all the dates she hopes to have once lockdown lifts

Page 28: Marriage isn't easy especially during a global health crisis but for Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard divorce is not an option -- Kristen said she and Dax at the start of the pandemic were at a point in their marriage where they definitely needed a little therapy brush-up and every couple of years they're being very antagonistic towards each other and they don't want that so they go back to therapy and figure out how they can serve their team goal better and it's been incredibly helpful and even in the toughest times they always have each other's back and they're committed to being each other's biggest support systems -- while their relationship may never be perfect, they're happy and love each other and that's what matters most
Page 29: Now that Tom Brady has won his seventh Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he has set his sights on the next prize: baby No. 3 with wife Gisele Bundchen -- they've been telling friends they hope to make an announcement by summer at the latest and Tom and Gisele have been super loved-up since leaving Boston and moving to Florida after the QB signed on with the Bucs and the change of scenery has worked wonders on their love life and put them in baby-making mode -- the duo, who recently bought a $17 million spread on Miami's exclusive Indian Creek Island, plan to build a luxury mansion there complete with a nursery and they hope to be all settled in when the new arrival comes -- they've never felt healthier or been happier
* Aaron Rodgers looked positively giddy when he revealed he had a fiancee, Shailene Woodley at the NFL Honors, but the QB is dreading the next step: bringing her home to meet his parents because it's no secret that Aaron's been estranged from them for years and the last thing he wants is for Shailene to get caught up in the drama -- Shailene wants Aaron to clear the air with his folks, but he's not ready to do that and he doesn't want to bring Shailene into a toxic environment
* It's only been two years since Miranda Lambert married Brendan McLoughlin but she's already itching for some alone time -- she's headed to Texas in April for her first concert in over a year and she's told Brendan he shouldn't come because it will be all work and no play but she really wants to get away from him for a while and after the pair's recent road trip together, Miranda is desperate for some space -- sometimes Miranda feels like she's living with a baby because Brendan whines and complains about life on her farm
Page 30: Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's romance is heating up fast, so much so that she's practically handed over the keys to her Calabasas estate and she loves having Travis sleep over and sometimes he'll stay the whole weekend -- he gets along famously with her children and Travis has been a friend of the family for years, so the kids have pretty much known him their whole lives and they'll do fun stuff together like hiking or playing video games and Travis loves making breakfast and showing off his pancake-flipping skills --Travis is spending so much time at Kourt's place that he's moved a bunch of his stuff in to make it easier for his kids Landon and Alabama with ex Shanna Moakler to visit him there -- everyone's convinced they'll be living together full-time before you know it
* Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were met with a flurry of well-wishes after they revealed they're expecting baby No. 2 -- the couple decided to wait until Meghan was safely into her second trimester to share the news and they only told a handful of family members before the public and they wanted to cherish this secret for as long as they could -- Harry and Meghan have been nesting at their Montecito mansion and have been busy prepping the nursery and making sure it's eco-friendly with energy-efficient lighting and they're keeping it as plastic-free as possible
* Love Bites -- Clare Crawley and Dale Moss reunited, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie welcomed a baby boy, Paris Hilton and Carter Reum engaged

Các ẩn ý trong MV mới của Taylor Swift
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
MV "The man" của Taylor Swift đạt 8 triệu lượt xem sau 15 giờ phát. Video: Youtube.

Trong Look what you made me do (2017), hình ảnh cô nằm trong bồn tắm đầy kim cương với đồng 1 USD ám chỉ về chiến thắng trong vụ kiện MC David Mueller sàm sỡ mình.

Hey Tena! I really love your blog, esp the horror movies post! :) I'm starting to get really into slasher movies and I was wondering if you maybe had some suggestions for me ! I've seen all the Screams and Friday the 13th so far and was looking for more ideas! Thank you! (:
I’ve always got horror suggestions!
Let’s start with a few proto-slashers (i.e., those films that helped mold the formula for the modern slasher.  They may not be as gory, but they’re important to what the slasher film would eventually become):
M (1931) - Fritz Lang
Peeping Tom (1960) - Michael Powell
Psycho (1960) - Alfred Hitchcock
A Bay of Blood (aka Twitch of the Death Nerve) (1971) - Mario Bava (I could have placed this in the next category, but the influence of this film in particular on the Friday the 13th franchise is quite noticeable)
Torso (1973) - Sergio Martino
Axe (1974) - Frederick R. Friedel
Black Christmas (1974) - Bob Clark
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - Tobe Hooper
The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976) - Charles B. Pierce
Alice, Sweet Alice (1976) - Alfred Sole
Massacre at Central High (1976) - Renee Daalder
The Hills Have Eyes (1977) - Wes Craven
Giallo films (personally recommended in order to best understand the genesis of the slasher subgenre):
Blood and Black Lace (1964) - Mario Bava
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)- Dario Argento
Five Dolls for an August Moon (1970) - Mario Bava
A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971) - Lucio Fulci
Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971) - Aldo Lado
The Cat O’ Nine Tails (1971) - Dario Argento
Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) (Dario Argento)
Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972) - Lucio Fulci
The Red Queen Kills Seven Times (1972) - Emilio Miraglia
What Have You Done to Solange? (1972) - Massimo Dallamano
Seven Deaths in the Cat’s Eye (1973) - Antonio Margheriti
Eyeball (1975) - Umberto Lenzi
Deep Red (1975) - Dario Argento
The House with Laughing Windows (1976) - Pupi Avati
Tenebrae  (1982) - Dario Argento
Delirium: Photo of Gioia (1987) - Lamberto Bava
Stage Fright (1987) - Michele Soavi
Basic list of slasher films (as in, the most commonly-cited examples of the subgenre):
Halloween (1978) - John Carpenter
Terror Train (1980) - Roger Spottiswoode
Prom Night (1980) - Paul Lynch
Maniac (1981) - William Lustig
My Bloody Valentine (1981) - George Mihalka
The Burning (1981) - Tony Maylam
The Funhouse (1981) - Tobe Hooper
Hell Night (1981) - Tom De Simone
Just Before Dawn (1981) - Jeff Leiberman
The Prowler (1981) - Joseph Zito
Happy Birthday to Me (1981) - J. Lee Thompson
The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) - Amy Holden Jones(this was allegedly a feminist parody of slasher films, but ends up being more excessive, and less entertaining.  Noteworthy only for this information)
Sleepaway Camp (1983) - Robert Hiltzik
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - Wes Craven
April Fool’s Day (1986) - Fred Walton
Child’s Play (1988) - Tom Holland
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) - Jim Gillespie
Saw (2004) - James Wan
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) - Scott Glosserman
Hatchet (2006) - Adam Green
Other slasher films:
Motel Hell (1980) - Kevin Connor
Mother’s Day (1980) - Charles Kaufman
Nightmare (1981) - Romano Scavolini
Madman (1981) - Joe Giannone
The New York Ripper (1982) - Lucio Fulci
Curtains (1983) - Jonathan Stryker
The House on Sorority Row (1983) - Mark Rosman
The Initiation (1984) - Larry Stewart
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) - Charles E. Sellier Jr.
Blood Diner (1987)- Jackie Kong
Slaughterhouse (1987) - Rick Roessler
Satan’s Little Helper (2004) - Jeff Leiberman
Hostel (2005) - Eli Roth (I’m not a fan, but you may feel differently)
Them (2006) - David Moreau and Xavier Palud
Standout slasher films (those of exceptional quality, or with traits that set it apart from others):
Tourist Trap (1979) - David Schmoeller
Alone in the Dark (1982) - Jack Sholder
The Stepfather (1987) - Joseph Ruben
Candyman (1992) - Bernard Rose
Dr. Giggles (1992) - Manny Coto
Wolf Creek (2005) - Greg Mclean
LGBT slasher films (because I felt like it):
Make a Wish (2002) - Sharon Ferranti
Hellbent (2004) - Paul Etheredge-Ouzts
High Tension (2006) - Alexandre Aja
You’re Killing Me (2015) - Jim Hansen
Additionally, you could look into German krimi films, which are essentially the sister subgenre to the giallo (and which I unfortunately do not have much personal experience with).
Hope this helps! :D

NFC Pro Bowl roster 2018: Russell Wilson, Drew Brees will play despite injury reshuffling
Tumblr media
The team voted on by fans and the team actually playing in the game are rarely the same.
Every year, the Pro Bowl roster gets changed up after the fact. Injuries, Super Bowl participants, and other factors mean that alternate players make up a large portion of the game. As a result, the team voted on by fans and the team that actually takes the field are extremely different.
Things are no different for the NFC team this year. Carson Wentz got voted as the starting quarterback, but an ACL tear ended his season early. (Wentz’s replacement is Jared Goff.) Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, and Bobby Wagner are just a few big names to pull out as they recover from nagging injuries.
The Philadelphia Eagles made the Super Bowl, so their Pro Bowl selections (Zach Ertz, Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Fletcher Cox, Malcolm Jenkins) are required to sit out the game.
Due to the injuries and Super Bowl participants, only 23 of the original Pro Bowl selections are still in the game. The running back position managed to stay intact, with Todd Gurley, Mark Ingram, and Alvin Kamara all set to suit up.
The Pro Bowl begins at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN and WatchESPN.
