1964 Bertone LaSalle Roadster
A design commission by Cadillac based on the upcoming second-generation Corvair platform. They were looking for an internationally-accessible sporty car; Bertone had a free hand, and wisely swapped the rear-engine layout for front, slipping the Cadillac 390 V8 under the smooth hood after widening the track 4" and covering it with wider bodywork. There was no back seat, but an upholstered package area - for shopping on the Riviera, obviously - allowed them to extend the cabin back an additional 18" and giving the car better proportions. A Corvette-based IRS helped the handling on the fully-running prototype; no production cars were made, however.
