The Ongoing Battle of the Goldman Family to Collect From O.J. Simpson's Estate
Tumblr media
But now new questions, most notably, will the family of Ron Goldman after his estate to pay off the civil judgment against him? And how would that work? Remember, while Simpson was found not guilty criminally for the murders, he was found civilly liable, responsible in 1997 and ordered to pay a whopping estimated to have increased to more than 100 million. Now, due to interest in the fact that he has been paying the Goldmans have been very vocal about how little several times, having his income garnished from his book If I Did It. Kim Goldman, Ron Goldman sister, stated at the families only received $114,000. An attorney for the Goldman has confirmed the family will be going after the estate for what is owed to them. Quote, We've had this problem It could be probate. It could all be gone. He's right. Look, different states have complex, vastly different laws. in California, in Florida, where he lived at various times in his life. Joining me now, Ashleigh Banfield, host of Banfield right here on News Nation, covers the big crime stories every night on her show. Jesse Weber, attorney and anchor for the Law and Crime Network, Also a News Nation legal contributor and a familiar face. Chris Hansen, award winning journalist, spent years NBC's Dateline. He's now the host of Takedown with Chris Hansen on True Blue Streaming Crime Network and the host of the podcast Predators IV Court. Good to see all of you. Jesse, legally, what is going to happen now with the Goldmans and Browns in their effort to try and get this money? Well, first. Let me just say, because he was so close to catching the killer, Right? I mean, he was going on the court for not having said that. So this is going to go into probate court and remember this wrongful death action. We call that a secured debt. They would have priority over unsecured creditors. So if you actually can find some money in his estate and a lot of it has been kind of kept in t shadows because he's been alive, they would get priority be paid out first. But again, we don't know the substantial assets that he has. We know that through the years there was the money that came out of the book. But what else does And they would have a better shot now.  And fortunately or unfortunately, now that he's dead, to be able to get that money. But actually, it seems to me that O.J. Simpson made every effort to ensure that he didn't have to pay off a penny. And I would assume that is included either spending everything he had or trying to put any assets difficult to get after it. Yes. I keep wondering, though, that seems to be worth spending nine years in the Lovelock prison in Nevada might be worth a penny or two. had some of that stuff. And he tended before that terrible incident in Nevada to hole up a lot of these things in storage containers all around the country, got a hold of it and stole it out of a storage container and then trieded to sellt to O.J. in the hotel room, which landed him in prison. But I think that there may be some memorabilia could be worth millions. It just depends on if the Goldmans can find it or if O.J. children are not going to be wise enough to continue hiding it. I want to play a piece of an interview that you did with the Goldmans in 2017 after Simpson was released from prison. This is number two. Let's listen. A civil court ruled that, in fact, he was responsible. Yeah. I mean, we were very lucky to have 12 jurors unanimously the one that caused Ron and Nicole's death. And we were awarded 33 and a half million dollars. And we're still trying to collect that. Fred, do you ever think from him? No. He he made a vow never to pay a dime if he had to work. It never. Worked. But we'll keep chasing them. And Chris, I think they're going to chase him even more. I think now was the opportunity, Right, Because they might have a chance to explore all these accounts, And you guys are the lawyers. I'm not. But it would seem there's an opportunity to find some of this and to collect. Read the full article

Actor Jonathan Majors, recently convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, is now facing a civil lawsuit filed by Jabbari herself. The lawsuit details a disturbing pattern of alleged physical and emotional abuse, as well as defamation claims stemming from Majors' public pronouncements of innocence. From Criminal Conviction to Civil Lawsuit: Jabbari Files Abuse Allegations Following a New York jury's verdict in December 2023, the fallout surrounding Jonathan Majors continues. Jabbari, a dancer and movement coach, has filed a lawsuit in federal court outlining a series of allegations against Majors. These claims center around alleged physical violence dating back to 2022, as well as defamation related to Majors' denials of abuse throughout the criminal case. The lawsuit details a disturbing pattern of abuse that Jabbari claims began in 2021 and escalated throughout their relationship. Specific accusations include: Physical assault on September 20th, 2022, including throwing, choking, and threats of violence. Verbal abuse and intimidation throughout the relationship. Emotional manipulation and control tactics. Jabbari further alleges that Majors attempted to discourage her from seeking medical attention after the alleged assault in September 2022. Majors' legal team has responded, stating they are preparing counterclaims against Jabbari. However, the lawsuit sheds new light on the accusations against the actor, potentially impacting his public image and ongoing career. The Intersection of Criminal and Civil Cases: Can They Coexist? While Majors faced criminal charges of assault and harassment, those proceedings had limitations. Jurors primarily considered the alleged incident from September 2022, with past instances serving as background information. Jabbari, due to legal constraints, couldn't fully address claims of physical violence in the criminal trial. The current civil lawsuit provides a platform for Jabbari to detail the alleged abuse more comprehensively. This includes accusations of physical violence in addition to emotional manipulation, broadening the scope of the case. It's important to note that these are just allegations at this point in the civil case. A court will ultimately determine the validity of Jabbari's claims. Defamation and Public Statements: A Tangled Web Jabbari's lawsuit also aims to Majors' public pronouncements of innocence following his criminal conviction. The lawsuit argues that Majors' denials constitute defamation, potentially damaging Jabbari's reputation and personal life. Whether these statements can be considered defamation will hinge on factors like: Truth vs. Falsity: Can Jabbari prove the alleged abuse occurred, ultimately demonstrating the falsity of Majors' claims of innocence? Malice: Was there malicious intent behind Majors' public statements? Did he knowingly make false claims to damage Jabbari's reputation? The legal battle between Jabbari and Majors will likely hinge on these complexities. FAQs What are the specific allegations against Jonathan Majors? The lawsuit details physical assault, verbal abuse, emotional manipulation, and attempts to control Jabbari's behavior. How does this civil lawsuit differ from the criminal case? The criminal case focused on a specific alleged incident, while the civil lawsuit paints a broader picture of a pattern of abuse. Additionally, the civil case allows Jabbari to delve into claims of physical violence, which were limited in the criminal trial. What happens next in this case? The legal process will involve discovery, depositions, and potentially a trial where both sides present evidence. A court will ultimately decide the outcome of the lawsuit.

Anthony Scaramucci Urges Crypto Community to Support President Biden Over Trump
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci called on the cryptocurrency community to back current President Joe Biden over Republican leader Donald Trump during a speech on digital assets at Duke University on February 1. Scaramucci warns that Trump is detrimental to cryptocurrencies According to a recent Bloomberg report, Scaramucci stated that a Trump re-election "would create chaos and unpredictability in the legal system." "I would prefer to fight for regulation with people like Elizabeth Warren and Gary Gensler, rather than with Trump and people like him, on a macro level," Scaramucci told the audience. As the founder of global investment firm SkyBridge Capital, Scaramucci is no stranger to the crypto industry. He was previously a business partner of convicted fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, whose bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX owned 30% of SkyBridge Capital's shares. The former White House communications director has also drawn parallels between Bankman-Fried and Trump in the past. "(Trump) is a different kind of fraudster than Sam Bankman-Fried, but yes, he is a fraudster," Scaramucci told NBC News in a previous interview, claiming that both "objectify people." Legal victories for cryptocurrency ahead? Scaramucci expressed optimism about Coinbase in its legal battle against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly operating as an unregistered exchange. "The Coinbase case will be very important, a very instrumental case," Scaramucci said. "I predict that we will win this case. And by the way, we might lose it here. But Brian Armstrong will win the case in the Supreme Court." "Just look at the Supreme Court matrix, who's participating in it, and I believe we will achieve a fair process of regulating digital assets," he added. However, Scaramucci is not alone in hoping for Coinbase's legal future. Senior legal analyst at Bloomberg, Elliott Z. Recently Stein assessed Coinbase's chances of winning the landmark case at 70%. Biden vs. Trump Scaramucci also touched on the recent approval by the SEC of spot Bitcoin ETFs, stating that a "broad audience of hedge funds" may expand their portfolios to include this asset class, despite typically being "reluctant." "But regular tokens, other than Bitcoin, are likely too speculative for this industry," Scaramucci explained. Scaramucci's comments come after a series of recent primary victories for Trump, who previously promised to "never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency." Meanwhile, a new CNN poll shows Trump leading Biden by a small margin in what is expected to be a likely rematch in the 2024 elections. Read the full article

Trump’s Legal Battle Escalates: Lawyers Seek Contempt Charges Against Special Counsel in Election Case Pause Violation
Tumblr media
In a continued legal tussle, Donald Trump's legal representatives escalated their fight by urging a judge to hold U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith in contempt of court. This move alleges a breach of a court-ordered suspension in the prosecution concerning the 2020 election. Despite the directive to halt all proceedings pending Trump's appeal, claims suggest ongoing evidence disclosure and a recent legal filing, detailed in a court submission. The legal confrontation, under the oversight of U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, witnessed Trump's legal team accusing prosecutors of introducing politically motivated allegations, defying the court-ordered suspension by submitting contentious material. This filing aims to restrict Trump's ability, as a Republican presidential nominee, from claiming a politically biased trial. While a spokesperson for Smith declined to comment, prosecutors indicated adherence to pre-set deadlines to ensure trial preparedness in case Trump's appeal faces rejection. The clash between Trump's legal representatives and Smith, responsible for overseeing the prosecution, has been ongoing, primarily focusing on the trial's proposed commencement in March. Trump maintains his plea of not guilty regarding allegations tied to orchestrating schemes aimed at impeding the certification of election results following his defeat against Democrat Joe Biden in 2020. A federal appeals court is scheduled to deliberate on Trump's immunity claim next Tuesday, adding a pivotal turn in this complex legal battle. Read the full article

SpaceX Accused of Illegally Firing Employees Criticizing Elon Musk
Tumblr media
Federal labor officials have leveled accusations against SpaceX, alleging the wrongful termination of eight employees who circulated a critical letter addressing Elon Musk, the founder, and CEO of the rocket company. This move has triggered a legal battle over labor rights and workplace conditions.
Allegations of Unlawful Dismissals
The National Labor Relations Board’s regional office filed a complaint stating that in 2022, SpaceX terminated these employees for their involvement in a letter urging the company to distance itself from Musk’s controversial social media comments, including remarks mocking sexual harassment allegations against him. The letter, drafted by concerned employees, also called for clarification and consistent enforcement of harassment policies at SpaceX.
Illegal Restrictions and Executive Infringement
The labor board complaint highlighted SpaceX’s president, Gwynne Shotwell, for allegedly unlawfully limiting the circulation of the critical letter, alongside similar accusations against other executives and managers within the company. These allegations are scheduled for an administrative hearing in March, pending a potential settlement between the involved parties. The labor board aims for remedies such as reinstatement and back pay for the terminated workers.
Paige Holland-Thielen, one of the terminated employees, expressed hope that these charges would hold SpaceX accountable for mistreating workers and stifling discourse. However, SpaceX has yet to respond to these allegations.
Elon Musk, SpaceX accused of unlawfully firing employees: U.S. agency
youtube
Musk’s Past Actions and Company History
Elon Musk, known for his assertive approach toward employees, faced criticism previously for significant layoffs and firing internal critics in his companies, notably at Twitter, now known as X. This recent controversy adds to a series of labor-related disputes involving Musk-led companies, including a prior case with Tesla and ongoing legal battles.
Company Culture Under Scrutiny
SpaceX’s workplace culture has faced increasing scrutiny, notably following an ex-employee’s essay detailing unaddressed harassment incidents. Reports also surfaced regarding a settlement involving Musk and a harassment accusation. Concerned employees, attempting to advocate for a more respectful work environment, were met with reprimands and subsequent terminations.
Allegations of Interference and Unlawful Behavior
The labor board complaint alleges retaliatory firings and interference by SpaceX executives with employees’ legally protected concerted activities. Specific accusations include a vice president’s admonishing remarks and a senior human resources official’s potentially intimidating actions, creating an impression of surveillance.
As this dispute unfolds, it not only calls attention to SpaceX’s employment practices but also raises broader questions about labor rights within high-profile tech companies and the responsibilities of corporate leadership in fostering a conducive work environment.
