Editor’s Letter: Cool Korea March 2017

I´m writing this from my bed after an incredible season of fashion shows from New York, Milan and Paris. I do have to say though, every season some designers will bring the best of the best and the next they would somehow not perform as well as expected or they will discontinue their vision and bring something else and as editors it makes it hard to interpret their style or concepts at times. But for the past 2-3 years, what we´ve have seen with my team in the shows of these 3 cities is that the stronger designers know what they are doing  and they are milking it hehe. The March issue of Cool Korea is our annual Power issue: from the cover, to the beauty, the articles, interviews, clothing brands and editorial spreads we think strong, we think drive and empowering you as readers and human beings. To me a magazine is more than just pretty pictures, I learnt that from Franca Sozzani, the late editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia who past away as we were editing the present issue of this magazine, hence why this issue is dedicated to her. I remember Franca always used to think about people as individuals, she was such an opinionated woman, so strong and incredibly respected in the Fashion industry and beyond. Her work to Fashion can not be quantified. I miss her a lot, she was that voice, that warm light, that motherly yet super fierce person. I do believe as her in the power of a magazine that does not just want to satisfy people and have a smiley boy or girl on the cover dressed nicely just to please advertisers or a certain designer or brand or showroom or a part of our readership target. To my team and I it´s truly about grooming the next generation of men to be the best they can be. It can be from dressing better, to think with a wider way of thinking and seeing the world, being more tolerant and accept other people´s personal issues and everything in between. This month we went to South Africa with top image maker and high fashion photographer Louis Daniel Botha who shot for us this exclusive covershoot with male supermodel Liam Vandiar. I have studied and followed his career and I´m extremely happy to have chosen him to be our march powerful male icon. We were equally blessed as my team and I got the amazing opportunity to work with top Spanish rising movie star Adrián Salzedo, shot by yours truly, who flew to Madrid to shoot with us; and eventually we then crossed the world over to join Cool Korea´s familiar faces and some of our favorite Asian superstars: Fish Zhang and Soo Xu-Ze, both styled by Azukii our super hero/stylist of Fashion and shot by Edmund Lee.  March is like the new start of year in a way for the  Fashion world: the new ad campaigns are showing up, brands start doing their fittings and designing for the next fashion shows, agencies recruit fresh new faces and so on and at Cool Korea over the past 5 years we have seen people change their wardrobe and ways of mixing shoes and outfits that truly show they pay attention to trends or designers´ ideas in order to transform their looks. Once again the message can change depending on the designer but to us it´s always about you: dress as fierce or funny or crazy or colorful as you want: we only have one life and who cares if you don´t fit the mold? Break the mold and be you: be strong.
