Wait wait are those paintings made from actual blood??? Who’s blood and how??? I’m so intrigued by this 👀

yeah it's my own blood!! lol i just withdraw it into a 1ml syringe using a (sterile) fine gauge sub-dermal needle, almost filling it all the way but leaving a little extra room for isopropyl alcohol- not enough to dilute the blood but to prevent coagulation- that way i can proceed to use that same syringe and needle like a fountain pen after rolling the now fully filled syringe btwn my hands to mix the contents- then it's simply a matter of very slowly pushing down the plunger as i moved the needle over the paper on locations where i wanted to deposit the "ink" so to speak. for shading, like in the self-portrait, i would increase the concentration of alcohol in the mixture (like watering it down, just not with water) to varying levels depending on how opaque or transparent i wanted the result to be on paper.. more details under the cut:

this is definitely one of those things that's NOT weird to me but i learned later is probably objectively kind of weird lmao i just found it fun, nothing deep or angsty behind it, it just. made logical sense. i also have really really veiny arms (and a years-long needle fixation- can you tell i was a drug addict 😭) so it's wicked easy to draw blood-

it's hard to do them justice w the webcam but TRUST me....and the 15 yrs worth of scarring may hint at the uhhh HIGH level of Okayness i have with blood (but that's getting into @stompthehalls territory) which i suppose is a necessity if you wanna do this. idk basically to me it's purely just..innocent artist stuff. i saw the possibility, recognized my own capabilities, had nothing else going on, knew nobody who knows me would be alarmed and that my tim and eric loving mother (and father who was still alive at the time) would genuinely appreciate it soooooo there you go!

oh and one more hot tip for all you kids who wanna try this at home! take 10 aspirin like 30-60 mins before drawing blood. it's just additional coagulation prevention, and btwn that and the alcohol mixed in it keeps the blood flowing smoothly and ink-like, which is what you're looking for. i WILL resume doing this shit when i get my monthly needle supplies again. i can make a video or something of the process in case there are still any doubters out there 😤
